Jake Gyllenhaal spotted all over NYC, including at Sting's birthday bash, and a WDW Interlude

Jake Gyllenhaal is a busy bee. He might be evading the cameras - with the exception of this photo taken by the MOMA cafe in New York, and another one here - but he's certainly getting about in the Big Apple. And so before we try and keep  track of him, pinning those proverbial tacks in the proverbial NYC Gyllenmap, pull up a chair and relax...

First off, we have sightings of Jake yesterday at what is becoming a favourite, Angelica Kitchen. Jake's enthusiasm for this vegan watering hole is so great that he was seen cycling to it in the rain. He was joined by his mum (and a bevy of women checking their hair in the window).

Later in the day Jake put on his glad rags and headed out to join the biggest bash in the city last night - Sting's 60th birthday party at NYC's Beacon Theatre, a night that raised £2.5 million. Jake was one of many there, including Robert Downey Jr (who took to the stage to sing to the birthday boy), Bruce Springsteen and pretty much everyone else who's ever picked up a mic. Nothing like Sting turning 60 to make me feel old. I remember seeing him and Police on stage so many years ago... Hopefully, some pictures may turn up of Jake. With apologies for linking to the Daily Fail, there are pictures of many of the other guests there.

I have a very pleasant image to put into your heads. Jake has also been spotted at a steam baths... Keep that thought...

Having an encounter with Jake, as we've seen, moves people to blog. This encounter with Jake on Thursday was no different. You can read all about it here.

So, the message is clear. There are two possibilities if you live in NYC. 1) keep your eyes peeled at all times, particularly near Vegan or arty cafes, or 2) be an ageing rocker and throw a big bash.

Many thanks to IHJ for the new old pics from backstage at the SAG Awards back in 2004 and to BBMISwear and Mermon for links.

WDW Hot Autumnal Interlude

Taking full advantage of a stonkingly hot day, I spent a lovely Sunday exploring some of Oxford's beauty spots. Oxford's medieval stones love the golden shine of the sun.

The day included a visit to Hogwarts.

Kate - great interlude, autumn's pictures. I wish I could see Hogwarts one day.

What the busy days in Jake's life. And we were lucky with so many sightings.
Congratulations to Sting for his 60th birthday! He's so fantastic and what a concert it was, with so many celebrities. Jake had a good time for sure.
I like that story about encounter with Jake in a cafe. We were discussing a possibility of meeting Jake on our forum and as we see it's not that simple, even if it's a chance given.:)
The pics of young Jake are cute, he was so slim then.
Thank you for that lovely post, Kate.

Thanks Mermon! Always makes me think of Harry Potter when I visit Christchurch college :D Packed with tourists.

Sting's birthday sounds incredible! And how wonderful to raise all that money :D I bet Jake had a great time. Nope, it's not that simple and very unexpected!

I hope everyone had a good weekend :) A real summer weekend here - the last, I fear.

I have been loving the sightings of Jake and that blog describing that woman's experience while waiting in line for coffee was great! I just watched a clip of Bruce and Sting singing "I Can't Stand Losing You" from the birthday benefit concert and I am officially jealous of Jake and all those there - what a great performance! It brought back a long ago great memory of when Bruce and Sting did the Amnesty International Tour and I went to Philly to see it and attended the press conference and met Bruce later that night - it was the beginning of Bruce and Sting's friendship and here they are today (and Jake in the audience). I love that S*#t!!

WDW you made me laugh so much while reading this post - first, the bit about the steam baths (ya, right - but you're right, nice thought!) and then this:
"Having an encounter with Jake, as we've seen, moves people to blog". Really?! It moves people to blog?! Have we done that?! Ha Ha! And I also loved your advice for seeing Jake...since many aren't old rockers maybe going to restaurants and artsy places will cover it! :-)

Lovely pictures from the interlude...you Brits are getting all the nice weather. Us in the Northeast States (including Jake) are getting crap for weather (to change midweek I think - so maybe that will mean pretty pictures of Jake walking/riding the sunny streets of NYC soon)?! *positive thinking*

See you soon (virtually of course...unless you want to come to the rainy Northeast States)?!

:-)

Kate,I too am jealous of the gorgeous weather you enjoyed this weekend. We had to skip the RenFaire this weekend (too wet and cold) and opted for the "Mummies of the World" exhibit instead. So I got to see Egyptian, South American, and Northern European mummies all in one place. Fascinating!

Also saw a movie this weekend - no surprise there, right!? ;) We saw Dream House with Daniel Craig. He was great, but the movie could have been better. Big Jake link: it was directed by Jim Sheridan (Brothers) and featured the younger of the two girls from Brothers as the older of the two girls in this one.

Jake needs to stay in NYC for a few more weeks. I have a possible opportunity to go into the city for a day or two and it would be interesting to be on the lookout for Jake while sightseeing. :)

Very nice post, Kate. Despite the weather (it's lovely here too) I so envy the New Yorkers.
I already have the jiggles just reading about the amount of coffee that was sold simply for the pleasure of a Jake seighting.

I love Sting, kind of shocks me thought that he is 60 already. Well, I'm not 20 myself anymore either.

Lovely interlude. Funny thing - on your last post (with Anna) I can't only see the interlude on my mobile, but not on my reg. PC (neither work nor home). Wonder why?

Hi Kate,
Lovely Pictures, I've never been to Oxford. Great pictures, it looks so beautiful.
What a great idea to use the birthday to raise charity money. Yes, we need some pictures...

@Susan, yes, yes, now you know the coffee spots and restaurants. Go for it! ;o)

Trying to recover after a long and difficult day, with four more of them to come this week... Getting there. Bakewell Tart helped :D

Hi BBMISwear :-) Ooh I know how much you love Brucie! That must have been an incredible show! But sorry to hear you're having some yucky weather - looks like our Indian Summer may be over though from tomorrow but it was great while it lasted :)

Susan, that exhibition sounds wonderful! I'm lucky in Oxford to have one of the finest and the oldest archaeological museum in the world, the Ashmolean. It reopens its refurbished Egyptian galleries this November. I can't wait to see them again.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dream House out here. And ooh NYC! Have a wonderful time and keep us posted and your eyes open :)

Hello Mrs JG! I'm sorry you can't see that picture - I don't know why. Hopefully, you're not having any trouble with the pictures in this post as they are quite large...

Thanks so much, Carlotta!

Great to see you, Eureka! It's a beautiful city - we both live in such lovely places :)

Have a good evening everyone!

owww I wish Jake would comes to my country one day. then I wish I would have a chance to see him!
Thank you also for wonderful pictures of interlude.
It really looks like Hogwarts!
Oxford is great place! I hope visit to there one day!!

Morning everyone! Very busy today (this is my busiest week of the year workwise :()

Hello Mayumintolor! I hope Jake makes it to your country too :) That picture is of Christ Church College where Harry Potter was filmed. The dining hall is inside that (tiny) Cathedral. It's beautiful. It was fun when HP was in town filming.

Have a lovely day everyone! I'm off to see the Scorsese George Harrison documentary after work today. Can't wait!

Susan said...

Ah! The George Harrison documentary - my household has been buzzing with anticipation over that one for a while now. We will be gathered in front of the TV, mesmerized by the story, comparing notes about what we already knew and what new revelations Scorsese delivers. We are all big Beatles fans, especially our daughter, who has been fascinated with the Fab Four her entire life. I wonder who is responsible for that? ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Susan! well, I was really looking forward to it, bought my ticket etc, and then I learned it was over 3hours and 20 minutes long! Which means I can't go as I couldn't get home until after midnight - plus I can't sit still in a cinema for that long! So done the next best thing and ordered the blu ray so I can watch it in comfort next week. I see that on US TV it's spread over two nights?!

mermon said...

Wow! The George Harrison documentary made by Scorsese? I didn't know about it. And I love the Beatles too. George was my first Beatles sympathy, later I discovered John Lennon. Because of them I wanted to learn English and translating their lyrics helped me a lot in that.
I would love to see that long movie.

Susan said...

Yes, it's a cable TV special that airs part 1 tonight and part 2 tomorrow night. I'm very happy that we can watch it from the comfort of our living room, feet up and in pajamas! Then we will probably also buy the blu-ray at some point, maybe as a Christmas gift for ourselves.

BTW, my new blog is up and running at www.cosmictwinsmedia.com. ;)

I'm the woman from the cafe. Glad you enjoyed the story. I'll be sure to update if I get another chance :)

mermon said...

Hi @Adele! Welcome here! Thank you once again for sharing your encounter with Jake with us.
I envy you, you had that chance:). It seemed to be quite intense. Please update necessarily, if it will happens again. And by the way, say hello to Jake from us - his fans from WDW - if you'll have a chance. Good luck!

Adele said...

Thanks, @mermon! I just wish I'd used my chance more wisely. Then again the poor guy really looked like he just wanted to have a coffee in peace, and who can blame him. He happened to pick the busiest cafe in SoHo though, but it's worth it for the coffee.

Hi Susan! Ooh thanks for the link, I'll add it to my blog reel at MB :)

Actually, this gives me a great idea - a bloglist of readers' blogs. If anyone has their own blog, they'd like me to add a link to (I don't promise to add them all and it's best if I know you) then enamil me links or add them to comments.

Adele! Thanks so much for popping by and saying hello! I don't just speak for me when I say how wonderful it is when those lucky enough to see Jake take the time to write about it and share it with the rest of us. And some of us are a long way away so it's extra special :)

I think you treated the whole thing perfectly - enjoying the experience while giving him his peace. I wish you luck with seeing him again. Even better looking in person, isn't he? :) Thanks again!

Hey there Mermon! It makes us feel closer, doesn't it?!

mermon said...

Ha, ha, ha @Adele, it even seems exciting that you may know how delicious coffee they serve in a place when Jake likes to come.:)

Hi Adele. So good to see you. I know how you feel. When I met Jake I wanted to do so many things and ended up doing nothing. He's just so overwhelming.
