Jake Gyllenhaal Turns Up - NYC Update [25 April]

On 25 April, Jake was snapped repeatedly by a photographer as he chatted on his phone while walking through the Meat Packing district of NYC. Clearly the photographer was as taken by Jake as we are. None of the photos could be used. But now, thanks to Stephanie at iheartjake, one picture has turned up so you can see for yourself how blue is very definitely Jake's colour.

Meatpacking district. Or MePa for short. Not Meat Market.

Ugh, I hate that the paps got that wrong on those pics.

Thanks WDW and IHJ for finding a more decent size picture. Jake is larger than life and those little mini pics just did not do him justice!

I'm loving this blog, WDW! Best of luck to you on your new venture -- I'll be visiting daily, at least. This is just the tonic we who appreciate Jake for more than just his looks need. His talent overwhelms me, and his commitment to humankind is, at the very least, inspiring.

And thanks for linking to Strike Me Gyllen -- another of my faves!

Hi Beckela - thanks so much for your comment and encouragement. That is just what I'm aiming to do - show that there's more to Jake than that beautiful face of his! I think there are reasons why Jake has such broad and lasting appeal, and that there are plenty of Gyllenhaalics out there who don't fit the stereotype of the fan, just as Jake defies stereotypes himself.

Strike Me Gyllen is a wonderful community and I'm so pleased for the support I have received there.

Thanks for dropping by, Beckela, and I hope I see you again round here.

You are so right, WDW. Jake is truly unique. As is his entire family. His thoughtfulness, choices, closeness with his family and longtime friends, and his personal charm are what won me over. I've never before been so taken with a celebrity, or even just someone I don't personally know. It has been quite interesting to watch him grow up from afar, and I look forward to his future endeavors.

I couldn't agree more, Beckela. There is so much more to Jake. In his Guardian interview, Jake referred to the energy that he can feel coming from himself, and between himself and others, and maybe we can feel a bit of that too. He's clearly very loved and protected by his friends and family, as well as by his fans.

And you're so right - it's been fascinating watching him grow up and developing into the fine man he has become.

Thanks so much for commenting, Beckela. I'll look forward to seeing you here again :)

Marina, thanks very much for your kind comment - to say that I'm doing Jake justice is a wonderful compliment that I hope I can prove worthy of. I hope you keep coming back, and I will try not to let you or Jake down.

For Manhattanites, where exactly is the Meat Packing district? By West Street? The Pier? (Actually, that used to be quite a hardcore gay club area)

Hi Anon

This sounds like a pretty interesting and fashionable part of Manhattan. This is what Wikipedia have to say about it:

The Meatpacking District, once known as Gansevoort Market, is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan. It runs roughly from West 15th Street south to Gansevoort Street, and from the Hudson River east to Hudson Street.

For decades the Meatpacking District was a center for New York City's slaughter and meatpacking industry. Beginning in the early 1990s, the Meatpacking District went through a formidable transformation; today, high-end clothing stores and restaurants together with trendy bars cater to young professionals and "hipsters." This, coupled with still-active meatpacking companies in the area, contribute to the area's "gritty glam" appeal. In 2004, New York magazine called the Meatpacking District "New York’s most fashionable neighborhood".

Despite these changes, vestiges of the meatpacking industry remain. Visitors to Washington Street in the early morning hours will see active meat shipments from warehouses between the boutiques and cafes.

Jake's certainly spotted around there a fair bit. I've no idea if it's a gay area or not, but the trendy parts of many towns often are ;)

Just a clarification, K, his sister lives adjacent to the Meatpacking District, hence the reason he's papped there quite a bit.

Also, there are several great restaurants right there and we all know Jake's love of a good restaurant.
