Gyllenhaals - celebrating happy families

Across America, families are celebrating Mother's Day today (an event marked two months ago in the UK) and the Gyllenhaal family has provided the media with the perfect example of an unusually functional celebrity family, whose members clearly enjoy each other's company. This interest isn't surprising considering the many wonderful photos we have seen of the family over recent weeks, many of which centre upon the newest addition to the family.

Celebrity Baby Blog's recent photograph of Naomi Foner holding her granddaughter Ramona while in New York was used as part of this week's celebration of three generations of Gyllenhaal women in US Weekly.

The recent images of Uncle Jake, clearly loving every minute of his time with his niece (so long as it didn't involve organic diapers), are going to be favourites for a long time to come. This weekend last year, Jake Gyllenhaal was photographed spending Mother's Day with his mother and father on the beach at Malibu, while Easter Sunday this year was also a family event, this time in Santa Monica. It's no surprise that Jake was recently included in OK magazine's top 10 of Hollywood's best sons, although the fact that 8 were placed before him (including Tom Cruise and David Beckham - and Justin Timberlake at the top), is.

To mark Mother's Day, the forum Strike Me Gyllen has opened three special threads: the first, Gender-Ender, aims to promote a discussion of gender stereotypes, while the second, To our children's children's children, offers a place for youthful voices; the third, on nurturing, is a tribute to the Mother Tree.

And Happy Mother's Day to all US Mothers. Especially Namomi who gave us Jake and Maggie as a new Gyllenhaal mother.

All the family photos are so sweet. I hope they are all together having a nice day today.

This is totally adorable. First Maggie's nose, now her glasses. Heh, investigating type.

You gotta love this family for the values they show.

Thanks for such an appropriate entry.

Hi LJF and Lisasmile - thanks for commenting and I'm glad you liked the photos. I love seeing pictures of Maggie and Ramona and I reckon Ramona's got her uncle wrapped round her little finger ;D

Hi Anonymous
I'm so happy you like the new threads on SMG. Would love to have you posting on SMG. I look forward to it.

Mother's Day is something that a small section of people in India have adopted from USA. There are definitely some commercial interests driving it as with all the "Days" involving gifts, cards, special dinners etc, but in this case I think it is more the spirit of the occasion. It is rather strange that there is such reverence for mothers/mother goddesses in Indian culture but there's no day for giving Mom a break and pampering her. Mothers are taken too much for granted? I'm glad it's changing
Happy Mother's Day to everyone at WDW!

Ramona is a little cutie. This is the first I have seen of her. As for Jake being only #8 behind Tom Cruise and others, I have seen Jake spending more time with his parents than I ever have of Tom. Who decides this stuff?

Thanks for all the comments here - I love the Gyllenbaby title, Anouska!

It's good to just step back and enjoy moments like these, when a family enjoys getting to know the new arrival and comes together around the baby. Certainly made easier when the baby is as cute and cheeky as Ramona is!

Thanks Incognita, but I am already a member of your lovely site.

Hooray for mothers and mother goddesses! And fathers, uncles and aunts too! :)
