Updated with new trailer! Another peep at Nightcrawler plus confirmation that Jake Gyllenhaal is expected at TIFF for its premiere

Updated to add official trailer number 2 for Nightcrawler!

Buon giorno! Despite all the efforts of various airlines to prevent it, I am back from Rome! Unfortunately, I seem to have left summer behind. Never mind, time to warm up with the latest peek at Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal's next movie, thanks to IHJ. You can watch it here.

You'll notice from this that the US release date has been put back from 17 October to the appropriately spooky date of 31 October. Fortunately, this is nothing like the length of delays we've been used to in the past - remember those long delays for Brothers and Prince of Persia? Painful...

The good news is that there is confirmation from TIFF that Jake will be attending the festival premiere of Nightcrawler on 5 September.

Finally, Naomi Foner has been talking about Jake and Maggie during the publicity for Very Good Girls. She told ABC News: '"Jake was in the editing room frequently. He was the one who pointed out that Boyd's character was like Clarence in 'It's a Wonderful Life,' who comes in and tells them something they need to know," she said. "He gave me some great advice during the making of this... I can’t say that there’s anything that gives me more pleasure than to get to the point where my children are my friends. I adore my kids. They are spectacular," she said. "Nothing is more important than family."'

Jake Gyllenhaal catch up as Jake goes undercover as Detective Loki

As we move into February, Jake Gyllenhaal has gone underground. Busy at work on Prisoners in Georgia, probably, he appears to have gone underground. Occasionally a twitter glimmer may sparkle but it's fair to say that there have been more sightings of the Tower of London's headless masked prisoner ghost over recent days than there has been of Jake Gyllenhaal. Obviously, if you spend all your time in Georgia's spin classes or whole food stores then you've almost certainly seen Jake every other day but, for the rest of us, Jake is as one with Detective Loki and has gone undercover.

Glimpses of Jake's co-star, the Tuneful Hugh Jackman, have been slightly more common. Jake has, though, been seen at 'Watershed's Uptown Martini with oysters, steak tartare, jambalaya, lamb ragout, coconut cake, sweet potato creme brûlée and hot milk cake'. I have only one thing to say to that - except for the fact that Jake has clearly not lost his appetite - but sweet potato in creme brulee?? The mind boggles. The one bit of news we do have is that the DVD and blu ray of End of Watch now has a release date in the UK and it's not too far off at all - 18 March. If you fancy it, you can get a pretty posh edition from Amazon. In the absence of news, it falls to my lot to post a couple of videos of Jake from bygone days. The first is from the Berlinale in 2012, almost a year ago now, followed by a little glimpse of an interview with a wee Jake from October Skies days. You will find more from this interview on these pages.

I also wanted to post this wonderful photo of Naomi Foner and Dakota Fanning from Sundance as well as a photo of Peter Sarsgaard with the Lovelace cast, also from Sundance.

Thanks to IHJ and JustJared for the photos.

**Updated Update!** Gyllenhaal-Foner-Sarsgaard Sundance Takeover; meet Detective Loki and End of Watch out on DVD in US today

Update.... Again!

I wanted to post a couple of videos from Sundance - one of the Very Good Girls premiere and the other from Lovelace. I feel that posting the latter is my civic duty because, through this video, you can see for yourself the full horror of what can happen if a Face Pet is allowed to run free and fed too much. No wonder Jake shaved his off. And there was me thinking it had something to do with Prisoners.

A couple of the featurettes from the End of Watch DVD have also been released thanks to 411mania.com.  So here is Watch Your Six:

and Women on Watch

Update! Jake did indeed attention the premiere of Very Good Girls last night (sitting alongside Celebrity Godmother Jamie Lee Curtis) and how proud he looks! Many thanks to IHJ for these spectacular photos.

It's a big week for Jake Gyllenhaal and his family but I'd like to thank them for keeping it relatively low key while I had flu. Tonight, Naomi Foner's movie Very Good Girls - the film of the filmset that Jake frequently visited - has its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. There had been doubts about whether Jake would manage to be there - reminding me of last year when so many thought that Jake was there when all the time he wasn't (or was he?). This time, though, a series of tweets from excited people at Atlanta Airport makes it look as if Jake has indeed made the trip. No doubt in return for doing extra tea duty on the set of Prisoners.

Naomi has spoken a little today about what directing, a shift in her life, means to her.

'Time is not on my side. I came late to directing, although I’ve been writing screenplays for most of my life, so I am in a hurry. In my case, it was, grandma directs a movie. And that meant literally, limiting the time I got to spend with my favorite people on earth, my grand daughter Ramona, and her new sister, Gloria who arrived weeks before we began to shoot. That was a big trade off, but I am hoping that they will get to see this film, and others one day. That they will tell their own stories in some form, because grandma (and mom) keep telling theirs. It’s a struggle to balance family and work for men and women, and filmmaking is especially challenging. But it lets us touch people we would never otherwise know, while still holding our dear ones close. That seems like having your cake and eating it too.'

Of course it never rains but it pours (at least in Britain), and tonight Sundance also sees the screening of Lovelace, a film which stars Peter Sarsgaard. What a day! A big family desert reunion could be on the cards.

Sundance has been a popular film festival for Jake over the last 13 years or so, as just a quick search of the WDW archives reveals. Jake even featured in a movie shot at the Festival. Brokeback Mountain premiered at Sundance (Jake talks about that here) and Donnie Darko and Good Girls also had fine days in the sun.

And then there was this performance from 2004.

Detective Loki!

This week we got our first look at Jake's new Prisoners character Detective Loki. It's a look a little reminiscent of Nailed and Love and Other Drugs but has several things going for it, not least the well-shorn face. I want to take some scissors to that bouffant though... There are a set of photos over at PoPSugar, including this below of Jake and his relatively hairy co-star, the extremely well-voiced Hugh Jackman. Interestingly, this appears to be Jake's second film character with a neck tattoo! Maybe it would be easier if Jake just had one done.

End of Watch out on Blu Ray and DVD in the US

End of Watch is out in the US on disc today. While the rest of us have a while to wait at least this means we can hear something about the quality of the features. Unfortunately, as we knew, no Jake commentary (such a loss - who can't love Jake's commentaries to Bubble Boy, Donnie Darko, Moonlight Mile and Zodiac?).

Here are some comments from Flix66
'Feature Commentary with Writer/Director David Ayer: A deeply insightful commentary. Ayer goes into a lot of detail explaining his choices for END OF WATCH.
Deleted Scenes (46:41): Seventeen deleted, extended and alternate scenes that at a lot of depth to the characters and film. Although interesting, most of these were rightfully cut to maintain focus and proper pacing. However, I think a few of these would have been OK to keep in the final cut.
Featurettes (10:59): Five very short fluff featurettes about 2 minutes each that offer nothing of much substance – “Fate with a Badge,” “In the Streets,” “Women on Watch,” “Watch Your Six” and “Honors"'

There's a further assessment at CinemaBlend which makes good reading.

This, I believe, may be a DVD feature but it may not be...

Mission!

So, all of you out there in Atlanta and Utah - keep your eyes peeled and those cameras primed!

Thanks to IHJ and links for photos.

New End of Watch stills and Jake Gyllenhaal back on someone else's set

As the release of End of Watch draws ever nearer, we have new stills from the movie. That is most definitely a hairdo I want to polish...

While he waits for If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet to consume every waking hour of the day, almost, Jake Gyllenhaal continues to put his weekends to good use by visiting his mother Naomi Foner on the NYC set of Very Good Girls.

And finally...

Normally, when there are rumours of a new work project for Jake I get very excited. Even if it comes to naught, it's fun to debate what it might indicate about Jake's choices. IMDb is linking Jake to Mobster: A Call for the New Order - intriguingly we are not only given a full cast, we are also given a release date and a running time. This might be the one project that I'll take with an extra big pinch of salt.

Thanks to IHJ for the pics!

Jake Gyllenhaal biking on the Very Good Girls NYC set

Well, who'd have thought it? It turns out that there was a perfectly rational explanation for Jake Gyllenhaal's rolled-up trouser leg that didn't involve strange cults or bathing preferences - it was a bicycle after all. Jake either cycled along to watch his mother filming Very Good Girls in NYC or he's got a bit part as Cyclist 3. No doubt he did it very well. The tongue will no doubt get him a little extra screen time too.

And how appropriate on this glorious day for cycling - congratulations to Bradley Wiggins for being the first Brit to ever win the Tour de France! What are you going to do with all those lions...

Thanks to IHJ for the pics.

My non-spoilery review of The Dark Knight Rises is now up at MovieBrit.

Jake Gyllenhaal with Dakota Fanning on the NYC set of his mother's Very Good Girls

Jake Gyllenhaal had such a good time on the NYC set of his mother Naomi's movie Very Good Girls, he was back again the next day. In the new photos from 19 July, there is an especially stunning image of Jake with Very Good Girls star Dakota Fanning.

The photos also highlight that Jake's membership of a certain historic esoteric society is in fine fettle. Please see earlier picture from the previous decade for comparison. Please note that the rolled up trouser leg has moved from left leg to right leg - obviously significant. Thanks to IHJ for all the pictures.

Jake was also photographed in NYC this morning with a friend. You can see that photo here. Be warned: it's a No Hat Pic.

Jake Gyllenhaal visits his mum on her Very Good Girls' set and End of Watch premiere details

Not content with spending time on his own filmset, Jake Gyllenhaal took off to New York City this week to spend time on his mother's. Naomi Foner is director and writer of Very Good Girls which stars Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen and Demi Moore. Both Dakota and Elizabeth were on hand as Jake took a tour and helped drink the coffees. Interesting to see how some media sites couldn't accept that Jake would be visiting his mother at her place of work and instead insisted that she was visiting him. You can see a video of Jake's visit here.

The photo below is crying out for a caption...

End of Watch has a premiere date! A competition has been announced in which you (if you're American and nor from Alaska and Rhode Island) can win a trip to the LA premiere on either 23 or 24 September. Interestingly, I'm reliably informed that If There Is I haven't Found It Yet, Jake's play, isn't  playing on Sunday 23 September. (sorry it was my mistake earlier with the dates.)

Talking of If There Is, thanks to a reader for letting me know that there's a Q&A with the cast before or after the performance on 20 October. See the comments for a code for booking tickets.

Thanks to IHJ for the pictures!

Jake Gyllenhaal wines and dines in NYC and Toronto in just one day! Mothers, directors, Slaughtered Lambs, co-stars involved...

No wonder Jake Gyllenhaal's beard is growing to mighty proportions, he's so busy clocking up the airmiles he's had no time to bother with shaving. It's a miracle he's remembered to put clothes on his body. This weekend Jake has been putting his time to good use by spending Sunday with his mum Naomi in New York City (possibly to have a little bit of a break from new born babies?) before flying to Toronto to have dinner with An Enemy's director Denis Villeneuve. Fortunately, there were photographers about in NYC who managed to get a shot or two of Jake not travelling in public transport. Although he was getting a taxi. But I don't think that counts.

Several things to note here about these wonderful pictures courtesy of IHJ. Firstly, never mind the beard, this is fantastic hair. Denis Villeneuve gets the WDW Seal of Approval for Jake's An Enemy Hair. Clearly, David Ayer didn't do so well for End of Watch. Secondly, Jake's doing odd things with his trousers and shoes again. Thirdly, muscle definition. Fourthly and possibly most importantly, did Jake and Naomi eat in The Slaughtered Lamb? If so, this would prove my rule that it is impossible to walk past a pub called The Slaughtered Lamb and not go in.

Tweets put Jake and Denis in the Italian restaurant Terroni. Yet again I marvel at how expensive Oxford prices are compared to everyone else... One lucky tweeter managed to get a photo. Another got an even better photo (thanks to Mermon for the link)!

Meanwhile, one of Jake's co-stars in An Enemy, Sarah Gadon, has been walking Cannes red carpets and mentioned how happy she is to get the chance to work with Denis Villeneuve. 'The way I look at it, I’ve aligned myself with Cronenberg and now Villeneuve, and that’s when I go, OMG. For me as a film student, it’s all about the director and the film process, and I feel honoured to be at these auteurs’ table. I certainly have pinch-me moments.' The question is, did she actually say 'OMG'?

Thanks to BBMISwear for the dinner tweet :-)

Having knocked Blogger out with karate, Jake Gyllenhaal takes up boxing. Naomi Foner to direct Peter Sarsgaard!

Unfortunately, the images of Jake Gyllenhaal leaving a karate session were too hot for Blogger to handle, knocking the poor blog hosting platform out for almost two days, taking the overly scorching post with it. (Note to Blogger - if you can see your way to returning said post, I would be most grateful.) It is therefore with great trepidation that I post the following pictures of Jake attending a boxing gym in LA from 12 May. If Karate Jake knocked Blogger out for two days, I hate to think what Boxing Jake will do... Please note how I'm not mentioning the sunnies.

Consider the following picture, from the karate set, a test to see whether Blogger really is fixed.

Very Good Girls

Jake may have starred in The Good Girl but, not to be outdone, Peter Sarsgaard is to feature in Very Good Girls. And what's more, Peter's mother in law Naomi Foner is not only the script writer, she is also set to direct. Deadline reports that the film is currently being shopped in Cannes. It will star Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen as the girls in question and the cast also includes Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek. Very good news, indeed.

And finally...

Yesterday, I had an amazing day at the press conference and UK premiere for Pirates of the Caribbean - I never realised Johnny Depp was such a funny guy! A full report will follow on Blogomatic3000 so I'll put a link up when that's done. In the meantime, here's a picture of the man himself. I hate to mention it, but at the far left of the picture, that's my arm. Yep. My arm and Johnny Depp in the same picture. Next time, I'll try and work in a foot as well. Picture from DisneyMoviesUK.

Jake Gyllenhaal's Mothers Day outing in LA and another video interview

Yesterday was Mothers Day in parts of the world, including the USA, which meant that Jake Gyllenhaal's mum Naomi was spared having to do the household chores and was instead taken out for a bite to eat by her son in LA. Naomi was doubly honoured - not only is Jake's hair continuing to grow a treat but he also put on a change of clothes. Looking good, Jake!

A slightly alarming indication is that soon Jake's beard will be longer than his hair...

I'm also delighted to say that we have another video interview with Jake. This video capture is crying out for a caption.

Right, I'm off to see Pirates 4! Where's my parrot...?

Thanks to IHJ for the fab pictures - there are plenty more there.

Jake Gyllenhaal on his mum's best advice and new Source Code stills as the film opens Down Under

For some reason, known only to no-one, Mother's Day has different dates in the USA from the UK, possibly to prevent clashes for those who have both American and British mums. UK mothers have had their lot for this year, but this coming Sunday it's the time of USA moms to feast on breakfasts cooked by toddlers. As part of the celebration, some stars have been asked to reveal the gifts and advice from their mothers that they treasure the most. Jake Gyllenhaal is among those asked. 'The best advice my mother ever gave me was always know somewhere why you're doing something, particularly if you commit yourself to something. Know why, know why in your heart and believe it.'

Actually, that wasn't the best advice Banksy-buying Naomi ever gave to her son. The best advice she gave Jake was 'Don't ever cut all your hair off again and if you're going to wear the same trousers pants all week, make sure you've got a needle and thread with you, my boy.' Jake just chose not to follow it, preferring the go with your heart advice instead.

Source Code Reaches Down Under

If you're in Australia and New Zealand, then today is 5 May (and count yourself lucky as that means you are now beyond the endless Star Wars May the Fourth jokes) and that is the date that Source Code opens on your shores. So please do go and see it, at least once. The next day, 6 May, Source Code reaches Poland. One of these days the time will come when we will all have seen and enjoyed this wonderful film. There is an interview with Michelle Monaghan here.

Update: Jake Gyllenhaal at the Farmers Market today, and Jake, Naomi and someone with a dog have lunch, 19 June

Update: Jake took his biceps to the Farmers Market for some greens today. He's pictured here with Busy Philipps, fellow godparent of Matilda Ledger. Thanks to the tweeter for posting the picture.

Yesterday (19 June), Jake Gyllenhaal took a break from going out all the time by going out. This time, it was brunch with mum Naomi at Lamill's in Silver Lake - one of those cafes where you have a very small table and have to put lots of glasses and cups on it and end up with the condiments in your lap. These pictures also prove true the well-known adage that there is no better way of getting Jake's attention - short of throwing a snickers bar at him - than borrowing a big dog and waving it at him. This demonstrates too why Jake may have moved on from Urth Cafe which, in my experience, is visited by patrons with rabbits. A no no.

Many thanks to IHJ for these lovely pics, there are many more there.

Jake Gyllenhaal gives mum Naomi the Montreal tour and looks photoshootin' hot!

This weekend was a busy one for many of us - while some of us were out having afternoon tea by the seaside and marvelling at how unappealing meerkats are when you've seen half a million of 'em, Jake Gyllenhaal was giving his mother Naomi a tour of Montreal. This also gave Jake the opportunity to wear a jacket with an enormous amount of pockets and the biggest zip I've seen that isn't attached to a tent flap.

Aside from shops, Jake also took Naomi to eat at Olive et Gourmando. Apparently, Kirsten Dunst was also there and one likes to speculate that there was a catchup. After all, when you have both seen Jake dressed like this, there is a bond that cannot be broken.

And with extra special thanks to IHJ, we also have some more pictures from the Mysterious Photoshoot. I don't have too much to say about these because I'm too busy trying to decide which should be my new desktop wallpaper. Maybe the top one... or the one beneath it.

Many thanks to IHJ! There are plenty more there.
