Jake Gyllenhaal does commentary for Zodiac DVD

After the disappointment of the Brokeback Mountain DVD last year, I have had high hopes for the quality and quantity of content on the Zodiac DVD. It seems that I will not be disappointed this time. While in Cannes, Jake Gyllenhaal did an (impromptu?) interview, which was published in the Daily Mail yesterday. Although this is Zodiac's first weekend in much of Europe, it is still good news to hear that Jake's last job before leaving LA for the south of France was to record the commentary for the Zodiac DVD. Anyone who has ever listened to Jake's commentaries will know what a treat we have in store.

When I was in Cannes, some of us were speculating on whether Jake would sit through the screening of Zodiac and decided that he probably would because the festival and its jury would expect it. Turns out we were right: 'Jake was musing about the protocol of having to sit through the movie's gala screening. He explained that he'd just been doing the commentary for the DVD version. "So I watched it twice last week and, of course, I've seen it several times when it opened in the US in January - but I'm wondering about the impoliteness of leaving a film once the screening has begun. They'll probably have security guards dragging me back in if I try to leave," he joked.' I'd like to remind Jake that Zodiac did not in fact open in the US in January - it was just supposed to.

The rest of the interview contained some other golden morsels. We learn that Jake intends to visit sister Maggie after Cannes in London, where she is filming the new Batman movie with Heath Ledger and Christian Bale.

More good news is Jake's plan to perform in a 'new' play in New York, hopefully before too long. "I get offered revivals, but I like the danger of doing something new, and I'm hoping it'll reflect the state of our country." Sounds promising.

This interesting interview, which also hints at the content of Rendition, all took place at La Colombe d'Or restaurant (looks beautiful) in St Paul de-Vence, near Nice, as Jake was tucking in to the local delicacy, blood sausage. It seems Jake used to visit Provence and the local area as a child with his family.

In other (good) news, it's very possible that, even though Jake has no immediate film plans, he will be seen at the film festivals of Toronto and Venice later this year, as the merry-go-round begins again - this time with Rendition.

The DVD of Zodiac now looks set to be released on 24 July and it may include a new, even longer version. Yet more good news!

All great news and intersting comments by JG. Is there anything that is not fascinating about this man! While I am glad that we have so much to look forward to with the ZODIAC DVD, I am disppointed that I now have to wait until July!
I love the fact that he is thinking about doing theater again. And it is admirable that he wants to take the risk and do something new and relavent as opposed to rehashing the same old thing. That's our guy!

Toronto, hmmmmm????

"I get offered revivals, but I like the danger of doing something new"

Thank you WDW for quoting these words in your post. If I were asked to name just one thing(it is of course impossible) about Jake that made me grab hold of my own life and make really positive changes it is this

I love that too; he's not afraid of taking risks, is he. :)
