Anthony Swofford - Jarhead himself - has been attending the Nantucket Film Festival where he has done jury duty with Michael Cunningham. According to the Boston Globe, despite winning a Pulitzer for The Hours, Cunnigham is still jealous of Swofford because "Jake Gyllenhaal didn't play me in the movie". I can see that this would be a definite perk of having your novel turned into a film and would compensate for any liberties taken by the director.
'The two men agreed it wasn't easy watching their books turned into movies. "Jamie Foxx's character doesn't exist in the book," Swofford said. "He's actually about five characters." '

LOL, Michael! Perhaps he should write something specifically for Jake. That would be interesting, methinks!
Hi Beckela - This could be a motive for novelists and screenplay writers the world over. They could all demand that their material can only be turned into a film on the condition that Jake's in it (playing them!).
So yes, Michael get on with it, but something a tad lighter than The Hours I hope ;D
Yes, The Hours is quite heavy AND difficult. I didn't like the book initially (although I do like Cunningham's writing style) and I refused to see the film because of it. Then I wised up and rented it and found it quite good. Changed my mind totally about the book. How he (and Wally Lamb) write women so well is a mystery to me.
Oh, yeah, and EVERY good writer should be writing for Jake. That would give him soooo many choices! LOL
Are you up to it, WDW? Hmmmmm?

Awwww she is Beckela --- if anyone has captured his essence it's WDW!

I love it! :)
Some more nice surprises on WDW today! Thanks WDW, I'm lovin' this blog.
Yes, Incognita, absolutely! Captured Jake's essence, indeed. At least the essence that I choose to accept as the "real" Jake.
By the way, if a poster appears as "Rebecca" it's me. I seem to have two Google accounts -- don't have a clue how that happened.
Hi there Incognita, Beckela and Marina
Thanks for that - I'm sure there are many different Jakes and sometimes he seems as unknowable as someone so far away can be, but this is all about how Jake seems to me. I'm glad you recognise him.
And Marina - the surprises aren't quite all over for the day! I'm so pleased you're still loving the site.
I would have to agree with the others that even though there may be many layers to Jake Gyllenhaal, WDW has definitely caputred his essence. When I come here, I almost feel like Jake is here with us!
Thanks Dani
If Jake's about I just apologise for everything - excuse me while I go and find my lipstick...
