Behind the scenes - Zodiac, Cannes and The Dark Knight

In all the excitment about the release and discovery of the Rufus Wainwright and Jake Gyllenhaal video the other day, this video nearly slipped me by. In what looks to have all the hallmarks of a DVD Extra, this four-minute video goes behind the scenes of Zodiac to show David Fincher's use of CGI, especially during a couple of murder scenes. Note: Possible spoilers.

The music, the lighting and the imaginative and clever ways in which the in-process and fully realised scenes merge together makes this short film a work of art in its own right and gives a real impression of danger, darkness and altered reality. Perhaps this is a taste of what we might expect - and its quality - on the 2008 DVD release. If so, I'm looking forward to it even more now.

New Cannes red carpet video

While I was looking at the Zodiac Behind the Scenes video, I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw this one! This is a short video clip of the Cannes red carpet but what makes this particularly special to me is that it must have been filmed just a foot or two to my left and I'm embarrassed to admit that you may actually hear me in this being - how should I say? - enthusiastic. This little clip will give you some of idea of just how exciting the whole event was for everyone lucky enough to have been there, whatever side of the barrier, especially during those moments when we waited for Jake to emerge from behind the bank of press and TV.

Heard any good jokes lately?

The Joker - aka Heath Ledger - has his own new site today. Chelsea Grin is the product of a bunch of talented writers, artists and web designers who celebrate Heath Ledger's debut as one of the most notorious villains. I recommend you have a look.

By the way...

Secretary - For those in the UK, Secretary will be on Film 4 on 24 July. Talk about a coincidence, weren't we just talking about that film the other day?

Includes pictures from IHJ.

Hi Cyn Yes! Yes I was! Were you?

Hey WDW! Love that Cannes video! I take it that was you shouting "jake!!!" and woo-hoo-ing away? Nothing to be embarrassed about, I'm sure we would all have done the same thing if we'd been lucky enough to be there.

Quick question about the Zodiac video:are there spoilers in it? It sounds like an interesting video but I haven't seen Zodiac yet, so if it contains spoilers I'll just wait until I've seen the film (whenever that might be!).

Thanks for the heads up about Secretary. I taped it last time it was on TV and I was going to watch it again after we talked about it the other day but there were some episodes of Doctor Who mysteriously taped over it:( I suppose I should be thankful it wasn't my Jake-tape instead!

Hi Twisted Logic That's a good point about the Zodiac video - it could be a bit spoilery if you've not seen it so I've put a note up now.

My Zodiac DVD is on the way but has sadly been caught up in a postal strike - of all the weeks...

Should I be ashamed to say that could well be me giving it the old 'Jake!!' and 'whoop!!'? My friends and I had discussed the merits of yeliing out, with me being all for it. I thought, Jake's in a foreign country, most people here are here to cheer for French movie and TV stars, so let's let Jake know we appeciate him - paid off as it happens ;D

I'm looking forward to seeing Secretary and I'll definitely be taping it too :D

Ok, thanks. I'll wait until I've seen Zodiac then :)

And no, you shouldn't be ashamed at all! Like I said, I'm sure most of us would have done exactly the same. I know I would (assuming I was still conscious of course!). And like you say, Jake appreciated it, so that's all that matters:)

I think you'd have had a great time Twisted Logic and I wish you'd been there too :D I think it's healthy to act like a very excited kiddie at times!

Off to bed so see you all tomorrow - it's a special day (a fellow Jaker/WDWie is coming to stay!) so I may be late :D

GoodnightWDW:) Hope you and your friend have fun!

I'm most delighted to see word of me has spread here to the dark nether regions of this so called 'web.' Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we, oh well, you know the rest dear friends.

May I call you friends? Oh, good. I don't have many of those you see but I just may have to reconsider that seeing as how you've fallen under my spell (Or gas as it were) and have decided to fall in line with the rest of the world in praising and admiring me. It's so good to see you finally come around.

I do like the look of this Jake fellow. Dashing grin, perfect teeth, I wonder if he owns any purple suits? Oh do ask him the next time you see him won't you?

Till next time dear friends....

Morning all,

The Cannes video was great WDW! I think I heard you calling for Jake! Don't worry, I would be just like you, would not be embarrassed at all about showing my appreciation for Jake, maybe even throw a kiss as well. Maybe I should be, but who cares? :) What a thrill it must have been to see him at Cannes, and everyone as well.

I liked the behind the scenes look at the making of Zodiac. Still scary, even knowing how it was technicaly done, especially the first murder scene. Very much looking forward to the Special Edition in 2008.

Joker, we are definitely looking foward to meeting you when The Dark Knight opens in theaters! I'll have to check out your site, I love the artistic work of the banner. :)

Thanks, WDW!!! I am SO looking forward to Christian Bale, Maggie and Heath in TDK!!! Always love re-living your "Cannes moments!" Cannes FF is one of my dreams!!! I've been to Toronto and to Tribeca, twice. Venice was a real bummer! They put everything on The Lido, and it is virtually inaccessible to anyone without "credentials." Hard to get in the festival spirit with all that! Of course some stars do wander the streets, but it is also high tourist season, with the cruise ships "dumping" huge hordes of daytrippers so it can be very unpleasant. Bottom line: IMVHO avoid Venice in August!
Personally, I would also love to go to Vancouver for film festival and Sundance. There are so many FF now, some just exist for their own sake to attract tourists.

It's very disappointing what you said about Venice Film Festival Bobbyanna, because I'm Italian and that could be my only chance to see Jake in the flesh!!:)

Xenia if you belong there you may find the devices for getting past the difficulties. You mustn't lose out on that chance.

WDW States: Should I be ashamed to say that could well be me giving it the old 'Jake!!' and 'whoop!!'? My friends and I had discussed the merits of yelling out, with me being all for it.

So not content to make the BBC headlines in the UK - (oh no, we haven't forgotten about that BAFTA incident!) Ms. WDW now raises her game to an international level.

Not that I would have done any less - just jealous is all.

Hey Ged! Good to see you around.
Yes WDW is an International Star in her own right!

xenia, please forgive me! I meant no offense in dissing Venice or it's FF! Incognita is totally right! I am a tourist and so I had the language barrier, the fact that I didn't "know" Venice, and a host of other impediments! I love Venice a lot! I think it is magic. Please don't allow my personal experience to stop you from trying!!!

Xenia said...

Don't worry bobbyanna, I'm not offended at all, I'm rather curious to learn from others's experience because I'm not that experienced in visiting festivals...

As about Venice, I'm totally aware that a city built upon water can be a real mess to walk around...

But if Jake will be in Venice in September it'll be worth it!!:))

Xenia I can understand when you say a city built on water ... mine is built on a marsh so to say

Bobbyanna you would face something similar if you were to come to the Kolkata film festival LOL. And leave alone any festival I think I would be bewildered just entering another country.

Ah, Venice ... I love it. You should do it Xenia - maybe you can gain entry to parts of the FF if you apply in advance?

Reports of bad BAFTA behaviour have been greatly exaggerated :) I stand behind all my actions and words at BAFTA :)

Hi everyone - could to see you all :D

Hey Xenia - I wish all the best of luck with the Venice Film Festival - I definitely think you should go for it. You never know what may happen ;)

I'm so glad you liked the Cannes video Marina - I coudn't believe it when I saw it and it brought everything flooding back. You can definitely hear us on there and all I can say is it worked. Kisses were blown.... waves were exchanged...

A-a-a-anouska - I think we have to keep an eye on that Heath.

Hi Incognita - If only Jake would go to the kolkata FF - just for you.

Hey Ged - so good to see you!! I was very pleased to crank my UK Jaking up to an international level :D

hi Bobbyanna - it's good to hear from your personal experiences - how amazing that you been to all these FF. We will have to draw on you first hand advice :D

Just wanted to say "The Joker's" website "Chelsea Grin" is really beautifully done - the artwork is fabulous. Bravi to all the talented people who put it together! :)

Hi Marina - I agree, there's some beautiful artwork and I'd be interested to hear more about how it came into being.

Me too!! ;D

the Chelsea Grin artwork is superb. One of the artists there has done some beautiful BBM art too.

Hi Ruby - I think our Bafta actions are everything to be proud of and there are certain moments that I remember which are priceless beyond all value, and more than one involves you *)

That's interesting about the Joker/BBM art. Do you have more information or a link to more info?

I just had to stop by and comment on those magic Bafta moments. Having been your remote teammate and felt your excitement coming throbbing at me through ether I join in and applaud all the actions of the Baftastic Team. I got to share some special moments and emotions in real time and that loving bond is one of those forever things for me. Bafta 07 was a turning point in my life. It marked my crossover from the deep sorrow of the past weeks into Golden Sunshine. Heartfelt thanks and Big Love to the whole team.

Hi Incognita - I revisited the Bafta places today and it brought precious memories flood back. To talk about it in detail would make me look crazy so suffice to say that it made me feel very happy and very lucky. And it's so good that yourself and others shared it with us through texts and phonecalls - I have these saved :D
