Jake and Maggie - Wonder Twins? Jake transformed into a weather pattern?

Well, this 'story' gathers pace. Yesterday WDW and everyone else reported that Jake was being hotly pursued by Warner Brothers to be one of the many stars in their superhero boiler Justice League of America extravaganza, due to begin shooting in 2008. According to another rumour, it was Maggie who was approached. This is less surprising considering that she is actually starring in a superhero movie. However, they don't want Maggie on her own, they want her to form one half of the amazing and awesome Wonder Twins, the other half being - of course - Jake Gyllenhaal.

I can see their reasoning. It's been a long time since Donnie Darko and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see Jake and Maggie appear together again, but these roles just sound so... I don't know how to describe them, so this is what one site has to say of the Wonder Twins:

'Zan can transform into any form of water, including liquid, mist, steam, or, perhaps most usefully, any kind of functioning ice structure. By combining with already-existing water, Zan could also increase his mass or volume in the water form chosen. In addition, he could transform himself into weather patterns involving water, such as a blizzard, a monsoon, or a typhoon.'

'Jayna can transform into any animal, whether real, mythological, or indigenous to Earth or to some other planet, like Beast Boy. She does need to know the name of the animal in order to assume its form, as she would turn into whatever animal she named.'

After seeing Jake as a Robert and a Douglas, I'm more than happy to see him as a Zan, but what would it be like to see him transformed into a 'functioning ice structure' or a weather pattern? I fear this could disguise his beauty. Maggie would clearly have to brush up on her zoological and mythological knowledge in order to transform into some interesting beasts.

I know this is all nonsense but, I have to admit, wouldn't it be fun! Also, this provides me with yet another reason for more Sporty Jake and some pictures of Jake and Maggie in mortal form.

Includes pictures from Just Jared and IHJ.

First film idea for Jake I have really loved! They ARE the Wonder Twins, and have already shown their capacity to change shape, control weather patterns, bring entire cities to their knees! This would be A-MA-zing!

Oh and it's interesting that Zan can transform himself into "any functioning ice structure" and that Jake described his own house, in the GQ interview, as "a world of icebergs. . . "

Awesome!

:-D

This whole idea has left me speechless, which is obviously a good thing. ;)

Hey Positively Pia - I'm with you absolutely on this one - sounds completely ridiculous and utterly irresistible! So much fun.

Interesting that the ice structure has to be 'functioning'... hmmm

So yes - Awesome and amazing! ;)

Awed Anouska - you snuck in...How can the idea of Jake whirling past you on the big screen as a tornado leave you speechless? Or being plonked into a glass of Baileys as an icecube...?

"Or being plonked into a glass of Baileys as an icecube...?"

man, that would be really COOL!

:):) thinking of the "cool meatball" sketch on SNL

Ridiculously cool!

I was watching SNL last night and that meatball sketch is (after the opening number of course) my fave without doubt :)

Seeing Jake and Maggie together in a movie again would be INCREDIBLE, but I just don't see them accepting to be in this. Maggie once said that the only reason she even accepted to be in The Dark Knight is Chris Nolan and the way he kind of changed the Batman series ; so I don't think she'd agree to do a second superhero movie :/

i really, REALLY want to see them together on screen though, so if this movie did happen I know it'd be great.

Welcome e! Thanks very much for commenting.

I'm incliked to agree with you. I think the likelihood of Jake and Maggie appearing in this is very slim. And as they both continue to prove themselves independently I fear it may be a while before we see them together in anything. BUT wouldn't it be great?! SO I'll just daydream about this one.

Thanks :)

Now let me just check, it is September the 1st tomorrow, isn't it, not April 1st? Oh purleeeeze?! Did you check out the Youtube clip of the Wonder Twins cartoon?!
I'd expect Jake to split his spandex laughing at any suggestion that he and Maggie might take on these roles, I think it's just wishful thinking on the part of some casting director (at least I hope it is!)

I seem to remember reading somewhere recently that they wanted to plough their own furrow for a while and didn't plan to star in the same film in the foreseeable future. I don't think the prospect of playing Zan and Jayna is likely to change their mind on that one. I'd like to think that one day we will see them act together again though.

Luscious photographs again,WDW,they're transforming me into steam as we speak!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oh Nadine thanks for the chuckle! I don't think Jake and maggie have any intention of working together on any project any time soon but it's such a lovely thought. I do like the image of them ploughing their own furrow. Very evocative.

Glad you like the pics, I certainly enjoyed picking them and steaminess was the affect I desired! *)

This Wonder Twins thing sounds so weird it might actually work!! I'd still rather he did something a bit more serious, for want of a better word.
Sorry to be OT, but just want to say thanks to WDW for making me watch October Sky. I've just finished watching it, and thought it was wonderful! I'll read the posts about it tomorrow!

I have a message from Mr Ruby, in response to Jake and Maggie rumoured to be playing the Wonder Twins. Said with wonder in fact: "ah, that would be so frickin' cooool!" :-D

Twisted Logic - I'm so glad you liked October Sky - I hope you enjoy the posts. I'm going to watch it again this weekend, along with some others, I can feel a Jakathon coming on.

Ruby what can I say but Respect to Mr Ruby :D

Uh....No. :)

Just say no, Jake! As much as I dearly admire both of them, I just can't Jake wanting to play a superhero, unless it's just the right one. I've always loved the angstyness of Spiderman, but who knows with that one? I also thought he would have brought great dimension to Harvey Dent. I'm still hoping for Jake to bring Jack Kerouac to life tho. ;)

^^sorry, that should read "just can't see Jake wanting to play . . . etc." :)

Hi WDW! I loved the October Sky posts, thank you so much for alerting me to this wonderful film, and thanks to everyone who commented. I really enjoyed reading it all. I don't have anything to add, since you've all said it all and much better than I ever could.
One thing I did want to mention though, is the similarities between Homer and Jack Twist. I felt there was something of the young Jack in Homer's innocence and hope, in the struggle between his belief in his dreams and having to accept the reality of what his life seemed destined to be, and of course the difficult relationship with his father. I'm glad that at least for Homer his dream came true, even if it didn't for Jack.

Enjoy your Jake-athon WDW!Personally, I'm planning on re-acquainting myself with Jarhead Jake as soon as I get the chance. Or maybe I'll watch Zodiac again. Or Donnie Darko. Or Brokeback...So many Jakes, so little time!!!

O/T Zodiac DVD due for release in UK 24/9. Total Film gives it 5* now. I think it gave it 4 for its cinema release

^^I'm so glad for that; Anon. It certainly deserves 5*. It may have taken awhile for it to be appreciated for the great film it is. I'll have to watch it again! :)

Hi everyone - ooh, it's not right to have to work on a Saturday :( But all put away for the evening and so I'm getting ready for my Jake-athon ;)

Hi Marina - Isn't Harvey Dent the one who has the two faces? I could never see Jake like that and be happy, call me shallow.

Hey Twisted Logic - I'm so glad you liked those October Sky posts, they meant a lot to me. I agree there are similarities between Homer and Jack but, as you point out, with one obvious difference: Homer got his dream. How I wish Jack had :(

Unfortunately my Jake-athon has had to be delayed for work (and I'm working tomorrow too) but I can feel a date with Swoff coming on. But, as you say, I also wanted to reacquaint myself with Pilot, Robert and Jack. Just never enough time.... ;)

Thanks Anon - That's great news about the 5 stars. We're getting a much better deal in the UK than the US while we wait for the all-singing and dancing special edition in 2008. The UK disc has a feature! I did a post on it early in August:

I get Total Film every month - I wonder why I haven't got my copy yet....

Hi WDW - I know what you mean. I just found the thought intriguing about a man who was once good, having something happen in his life to make him become damaged and maybe does bad things, but is not totally evil. More of a dimensional villain you'd have sympathy for. And the comic book illustration reminds me so much of Jake. Thick dark wavy hair, heavy eyebrows, blue eyes, Rock-of-Gibraltar jawline. Even my mom, who knows I'm a fan, remarked on his beautiful jawline! :)

Aaaaaaarrrrggghhh, how many freaking superheroes are there? Means: When will every possibility of Jake playing superhero X, Y or Z have been discussed - and abandoned?
Means: When can I feel safe again? LOL!
I am sorry, but the idea of Jake playing a super hero still doesn't appeal to me... And of course I never knew, that there are so many of them, they are like a plague... Till not so long ago I only knew about Superman, Batman and Spiderman... I was a happy camper back then... LOL! (no offense to super hero fans (and especially to Mr. R.), but I just don't want to see Jake in one of those weird suits... Not really...). Of course I would watch it as a loyal fan, but...
I think I said it before - in some other place probably... The only super hero I could have lived with was Batman - at least he has a cool black suit, but that one is taken. And if it has to be one of those superhero movies, then please give us the villain...
I think another reason why I would prefer Jake not to "become" a superhero is that I don't want him to be trapped in the whole sequel thing... I think if they are a success, superhero movies are destined to end up with sequels being made (and of course we want Jake to be in a successful movie). But would he be able to do other movies at the same time? Or would he be trapped in that spandex suit for years?
And he would probably always carry the label of Ex-Wondertwin Zan Schman with him...
The thought of Jake and Maggie together on screen is a nice one on the other hand... But there must be other options for them...

Okay, I shut up now... LOL!

^^I agree with you, Uli, it would have to be a superhero role worthy of our guy. I'm not crazy about seeing Maggie and Jake in a film together; I kinda like the idea of them each blazing their own trails in Hollywood. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Marina - I love 'Rock of Gibralter' jawline. Jake is such a gorgeous mix of classic beauty combined with something unusual - that look in his eye, or the shape of his mouth... Better shut up!

Hey Maniac Uli! I feel very glad I've given you such a chance to do some anger venting therapy :D I hope you feel better now! I don't think you need worry - this won't happen but I just loved the idea of Jake and Maggie doing such fun roles - only a cameo after all. I fear that would be the only type of thing there's even a remote chance of them doing together :( I trust Jake would never get himself stuck in a superhero franchise - heavens forbid.

Thanks for the comment :) Have a glass of something....

as one who has a collection of Batman erotica (my darling computer nerds who pay home visits and do stuff that amazes me are startled by what's in my photo file)I would love to see Jake in a form fitting superhero outfit transmigrating into steam, which he is, already, and "weather patterns", which he does, already, and etcetcetc., and I am REALLY into seeing how a cinematographer visualizes a superhero (who says Jake isn't?)provoking all Gotham City to sexual excitement. As for the wondertwin - women have the natural capacity to shape-change into animal forms. And Maggie, like her brother, is game for change! O how I love these two!

This could be a terrific politlcal commentary!

Anonymous said...

I LOVE how you think, Pia! I can think of a few animals I could transform into, courtesy of you-know-who! Hmmm, I may have to rethink my original comment, since you put it that way . . . ;)

Anonymous said...

Marina! thankyou! for "loving how I think" since most look at me and shake their heads and say WTF!

And YEAH Jake sure encourages metamorphoses 'cause he does the same! part of his excitement, in my view!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Passionately Pia - Marina's not alone *) I love the idea of Jake as some Sex Superhero, whose power is to make everyone swoon at his feet.

Batman erotica? The mind boggles...
