Jake - roles, votes and voice

What a day it's been... Anyway, I know everyone's still thinking about the wherefores and the whys and whens of Jake and Reese driving around - I know it's not environmentally-friendly to say so (and I have guilt as a Live Earth attendee) but I love that Mercedes - but there's important business at hand. Jake Gyllenhaal is losing to Dr Who, not as much as Leo DiCaprio admittedly, and I don't like it. So please pay the Monthly vote of Hello a visit and get Jake off the floor. It all brings back memories of another year when we took on the might that is Bon Jovi and left him for dust.

Some websites are talking today as if Jake's acceptance of the role of Joe Namath of the Jets is a foregone conclusion, even a fait accompli, but there is still no other source. However, one site added spice to the idea of Jake taking on the role of this mischievous sporting hero. The site includes a fun clip of Joe trying to kiss his pretty interviewer who has distracted him beyond caring from his team's woes.

Talking of roles for Jake, first-time author Patricia Wood apparently brought parts of the publishing industry to a bidding war for her novel Lottery, which tells the story of 'mentally challenged Perry L Crandall, who wins $12 million in the Washington state lottery.' It seems Patricia is very keen that if any actor should play her Forrest Gump, it should be Jake. But, as far as I'm concerned, I hope Jake has moved on into new territory now.

Maggie's SherryBaby has been in British cinemas for almost a week now and despite opening in only 13 screens, it took a respectable $72,984 (or $5,614 average a screen). It just goes to show, people will see SherryBaby, given half the chance.

Maggie's co-star in The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger, featured in a new teaser for the film released this week. I'd hesitate to call it a trailer because it has no scenes, merely voices and iconic images. The film is an entire year away - I wonder how they will keep the momentum of interest up for such a long time. View the 'trailer' here. If only we could get a taster of Rendition...

Incidentally, the animated film The Man Who Walked Between Two Towers is back up on YouTube, but not for long, I suspect. So if you want Jake's beautiful voice to lull you to sleep tonight, take a peek.

Includes pictures from IHJ.

WDW, I wanna KISS you! (channeling Joe Namath slthough Ive only had one scotch.)

You set a standard of graciousness that is inspiring. (I have a low startle point and am delighted to be so inspired!)

Just to say thanks, and Im glad your work does not devour you but leaves some for us.

Hey positively pia - how nice is that! Thank you, friend, and CHEERS :D

Hey WDW! Hope your day went well today:)
Thanks for this post. I've got to say I haven't really been thinking about the Jake and Reese thing.I'm not saying I'm not curious, I'm only human lol!But I'd much rather read and talk about Jake's films, analyse his interviews and swoon over his breathtaking gorgeousness!
I wish we had some definite news to talk about though. I'm not really sold on this "Broadway Joe" thing but that's probably cos American football is a totally alien concept to me. the "Lottery" role sounds like the sort of thing that would have casting directors shouting "Get me Jake Gyllenhaal!!!" and I think Jake would be fantastic but like you I think it's the wrong time in his career to take on a role like that. He needs to branch out a bit more like he started doing with Jarhead and sounds like he did with Zodiac and Rendition. OMG I'm DYING to see both those films!!
Thanks for the "Between The Towers" link - I'm going to listen to it tonight, in between voting for Jake in the Hello poll (don't tell TL Junior though, she's a big fan of David Tennant!)

Hi Twisted Logic - Thanks - it went OK today but a 5-hour commute is no joke :( To say I'm sleepy....

I'd much rather read and talk about Jake's films, analyse his interviews and swoon over his breathtaking gorgeousness! Oh how definitely am I with you on this one! Jake's private life is his own - what I need from him is at least one movie a year :D Am I being greedy...?

So yes, let's home for some news. Maybe now the holiday is over and something's afoot. Well, I can hope.

I've listened to The Man Who Walked Between the Towers twice tonight - it really does me good to hear Jake's voice and here we have a full 10 minutes of it. This video rarely stays in YouTube for long so I hope people get to see it/grab it while they can.

I'm voting too, made even easier for me because - and I whisper this - I've not been a Dr Who fan since Tom Baker...

Yes! Watched The Man Who Walked Between the Towers! What a treat
on a summer night!

Five hours?! Ouch! Poor you :( That's an hour more than Jack Twist up on Brokeback used to complain about! He didn't know how good he had it!:D
But seriously,it makes me even more appreciative of you that you can still find time to make these great posts, so thank you:)

Oh, and Spooky Twin strikes again! Tom Baker is THE doctor as far as I'm concerned. I wasn't really that much of a fan even back then (it used to scare the living daylights out of me and give me nightmares) but now I think it's dreadful it's more like a soap than anything else and all the celebrity cameos are just pathetic imo.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Glad you saw it tonight pia. I think it's so wonderful and it makes me smile thinking of a few of us here watching it at the same time :D

I know Twisted Logic, Jack should have stopped that complaining at a measly 4 hours! I'll always find time for WDW.

Ahh Spooky Twin - another Tom Bakerite. I have no idea what happened to the Dr after he left and I've not seen any of the recent stories. What I have seen is Torchwood - I love Captain Jack and was lucky enough to spend some time only a few feet from him during a certain Bafta event this year and he's even better looking in real life. Although when a certain other guy appeared all thoughts of Captain Jack vanished into a black hole of Jakeness ;D

Anonymous said...

And the spookiness goes on...kind of! I loved Captain Jack in Dr Who but I've never seen Torchwood cos I'm not really into sci-fi. I don't get a choice about watching Dr Who though! I've never seen John Barrowman in the flesh, but he looks lovely on TV:) I totally understand though that he would pale into insignificance next to Jake. That's something all other men on the planet just have to live with, I'm afraid;)
Btw, did you delete one of my posts, or did I imagine posting apologising for ranting about Dr Who? If it was the former, I'm sorry if I said anything out of order.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Spooky Twisted Logic Twin - I'm afraid you must have entered a timewarp or another dimension because I didn't delete any comment. And there's no need for apologising anyway as I'm no fan of the Doctor even though I am a sci-fi fan - I used to have a bit of a thing about Commander Rike on Star Trek TNG. Just pretend you didn;t hear that ;D

But ys, all men on the planet pale next to Jake as do men from all other planets.... That Tennant has a lot to answer for here. Let's get Jake ahead so I can get back into my own space time continuum.

As I say, I certainly didn't delete a post, please don't think I would - Blogger has been known to play tricks - it did delete all my pictures from my post the other night.

Anonymous said...

Hey WDW! I didn't think you would have deleted my post cos I've only known you do that in extreme cases and I didn't say anything that could've been taken the wrong way, but I just had to ask cos I could have sworn I posted it. Maybe I clicked the wrong button or something. I was listening to TMWWBTT at the time so it's a miracle I could type at all listening to those dulcet tones of Jake's!
I have to cofess my ignorance here- I thought it was just Jake doing a voice-over,like on a CD book, I didn't realise it was a cartoon! But I think I actually preferto just listen to Jake's voice rather than watch the whole thing.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Phew, thanks Twisted Logic - I've not had to delete any comments except in a couple of cases. Jake's voice can have an effect that's for sure - I quite regularly have it playing in the background although today I did watch the animation as well as I find it really charming.

G'night from me to you all *)

Okay....I am going to kinda sorta show my age..but I am a huge American football fan..and absolutely fell in love with Broadway Joe Namath in his heyday. I was about 12 when he was at his most famous.. I have trepidations about our boy playing Joe Willie in a biopic...for one thing..I am not sure how many people would buy into it...I mean..sure..hew was popular..but a whole movie..I dunno..of course there are those, like me, who would watch Jake in anything...it would be an extra bonus for me..because I like football, Joe Namath, and Jakey. If this movie does come to fruition, I would only hope they would have a scene where Joe was wearing pantyhose for a commercial. Thanks, as always WDW, you keep us up to date...in a most fabulous way...just as an aside...have you ever noticed that the jacket Jake is wearing in the first pic here has covered buttons? What an elegant touch for a man's jacket....Michele

It's strange listening to TMWWBTT just now cos I've been watching bits of Jarhead for the last couple of days(inspired by the Steamed pic!), especially the scene with Fergus and the rifle and it's strange going from angry, shouting Jake, to TMWWBTT cos his voice sounds so gentle and soothing here. It's hard to believe it's the same man.

Goodnight WDW:)

Beautiful selection of photos as usual. As for Jake playing Joe Nameth, if it happens I just hope they confine the story to the time period when Joe was his most handsome and charming. Joe would be an interesting role to play, but if I am to be honest, a big part of me wants to Jake to play Joe just so I can watch him run across a football field in those tight pants. In slow motion!

Boy, the Batman anticipation is sure building for me. And a whole year to go! Thanks for the teaser of The Joker's voice. Like you, WDW, it sure would be nice if we could get a bit more on Rendition. What's the hold up? We know there is a trailer because it has been seen. So where is it? I am going to see The Bourne Ultimatum this weekend and that would be a perfect time to preview Rendition since it is also a thriller type of film.

Anonymous said...

I just saw where someone posted at DC that the Rendition trailer is going to be shown on Entertainment Tonight tomorrow! I hope that is true. The same thing was said about the Zodiac trailer back in February and it wasn't shown on the night it was originally scheduled for.

I am back again! Don't mean to be hijacking the site tonight but I just saw a sneak peak at THE TRAILER on Entertainment Tonight! E.T. said the whole thing will be shown tomorrow. There were several scenes with Jake and I have no words to describe him. I am hyperventilating as I type this. I don't know how in the world I can wait! Hopefully the trailer will be released for everyone to see tomorrow.

Reese was also interviewed about her new role as the Avon spokesperson. She was very funny and sweet. I smiled the whole time that I watched her. So if I am smiling, SOMEBODY else probably is having a really good time with her...whatever they are doing!

Anonymous said...

dani, I am SO excited about the peek at the Rendition stuff!!!!
I know have a very vivid imagination, but it seems to me that when Reese smiles lately, it has a little something extra to it!

Anonymous said...

In the interview I saw on E.T. Reese seemed very happy and bubbly. Of course she needs to be appealing since she is representing a company and it seems that she will have a very important role, but I kind of think there is something else behind that smile. Hmmm...wonder what it could be.

In the sneak "peek" of the trailer, which I mispelled earlier in my haste to type - it's a wonder I spelled anything right -
I think there were three scenes with Jake. I believe one of them was with Meryl Streep, but I could be wrong because I kind of blanked everything else out since I realized I had a very limitied time to see him. He was wearing the suit in each one. No shirtless moments. I was already suffering from a serious lack of oxygen from seeing him fully clothed. Anything less would have done me in!

Riker, WDW?

RIKER??

(I was more of a Captain Picard gal myself ;) )

A 5-hour commute? OMG -- you are amazing to even consider such a thing! Didn't you say there is WiFi on the bus? That certainly helps.

Tom Baker is the only Dr. Who I know, and I loved him. Are the sets still cheesy in the new ones? Loved that, too.

I have TMWWBTT and watch it occasionally. It is quite charming, and Jake is VERY easy to listen to.

I kinda hope Jake steers clear of more bio-pics, but if the Joe Namath script is good, there is no one better to play him, that's for sure. I'm certain Broadway Joe is a complicated man, and complicated men are Jake's forté.

Thanks for another great post, WDW. I hope you are enjoying your new job, in spite of the commute.

Dr Who and Torchwood are the only things I regularly watch on TV these days. Not keen on the celebrity cameos though. I do loooove me some Captain Jack, as my Bafta pals will testify! :D

Jean-Luc always did it for me too.

The Batman teaser-trailer is great. Heath has the maniacal laugh down well, and I love the way he says 'I'm a man of my word'. A different tone for him, but when he says 'word' it's definitely the trademark Heath-rumble!

oops, I did a gushy post without mentioning the blog subject.

my blind adoration of The Golden One is a given though, right?

I just have to say how refreshing it is to come here. It is truly a haven from a lot of crap that is said on a lot of the internet about Jake. It makes me upset to see some of the things written about him and some of the gossip that is spread. So it is wonderful to have this place, as twistedlogic said, "I'd much rather read and talk about Jake's films, analyse his interviews and swoon over his breathtaking gorgeousness!"

And I hope, WDW that your new job is going well despite the 5 hour commute..yikes!

Dani, OMG thank you for the info on the "Rendition" trailer! I have the DVR set for tonight's "Entertainment Tonight"!

Amen. So looking forward to seeing the Rendition trailer on ET tonight. :)

Get Real: I just have to say how refreshing it is to come here. It is truly a haven from a lot of crap that is said on a lot of the internet about Jake. It makes me upset to see some of the things written about him and some of the gossip that is spread.

I second that!

Does anyone know if we get Entertainment Tonight here in the UK? I don't think we do but if anyone knows different please let us know!! If not, then hopefully it will be all over YouTube before you can say "shirtless and sweaty":D For those of you fortunate enough to watch it tonight please report back as soon as you can- I want to know every last detail of what he does, what he says and what he's wearing!:D

Anonymous said...

I third it!!! I also like the "flow" of our conversations. Feels like I'm on a huge "partyline" talking with mates! LOL!!! Poor WDW. I couldn't handle a five hour commute. My longest commute has been 35 minutes...in bad weather.
Heath looks terrifying and gruesome in that picture, WDW. Can't wait for Batman. I absolutely will go crazy waiting for the Rendition scemes tonight. And I haven't that far to go.
I have mixed feelings about Joe Namath. It would have to be a really good script, a really interesting perspective, and really smart in order for it to work. Not only for Jake, but just in general.

(Sigh!) I just hope we hear something soon about Jake's next project.

Just jumping in before I have to leave - the wonderful Stephanie at IHJ has the first trailer caps posted on the "Rendition" thread, page 11!!

Enjoy!

OMG...Just...OMG. I just saw a few of the screencaps (TYVVM, Carla) I haven't ever seen him looking like this in a movie. In RL, yeah, but on the big screen...I know I'm not making sense and I'm almost embarrassed, but Jake looks absolutely delicious in this movie.
Incredible. Truly. I think I'm going to go for a walk. Yes, it is 90 degrees outside, but...oh, my. I will definitely be watching Entertainment Tonight. (It is an ABC network program)

Hi all! I'm back and look what I've missed - a great chat and lots of news re the trailer - which sadly I live on the wrong continent to see. Thanks for all your comments, I just wish I could have been here :(

Dani you lucky thing, you!! That must have been amazing seeing the trailer. What a shock to see it for the first time. My heart rhythm was all over the place the first time I saw the Zodiac trailer...

I hope all of you who get to see the trailer tonight study it hard for us - and put it on YouTube?? :D

Hey Anouska the Trekker and Ruby the Sci Fi Geek - Picard fans, eh? I know he was wise and sexy, but Riker was earthy, often misguided and in need of a good woman - plus I liked the beard ;D I definitely know your love of the Golden One is given, Ruby :)

Thanks Beckela - the job's not too bad although it criminally gets in the way of Jake.

And thanks to you, Get Real, Bobbyanna and holidaying Marina for those kind words! I'm glad you lie the atmosphere here, I really do and I look forward so much to being able to pop in and hear what you're all saying :D

I agree that I'm not particularly in faviour of biopics at the best of time but if the Broadway Joe project has a good script and moves it out of the usual biopic structure then maybe... I don't know if anyone outside the US would be particularly interested in the subject though?

Hi Carla - thanks for letting us know about the pics. Let's hope the trailer's not long behind :D

Impatiently pia - I put the Jake pictures up on a new post, along with those gorgous Guardian pics. Sigh...

Hi Michele - I tend to agree with you on the biopic. I would of course see Jake in anything but this would not be easy to relate to. Ahh, when Jake dresses up for an event, he really knows how to dress up. I loved the Bafta suit - especially the shirt - and at Cannes I adored the trousers :D

Twisted Logic - we'll just have to not see the trailer together :( But, hopefully, it won't be too long befor someone outs it up for all of us.

What a day :-)

Well...as far as the trailer on ET tonight...too much Reese...not nearly enough Jake!!! But it looks like it is going to be riveting!! I just hope they do not overdo it...after all..I am not sure Hollywood knows what exactly goes on when there is a rendition...but I shall reserve my comments until I see the whole movie...I can see Jake is going to be hot and fabulous not matter what the material...
