Brokeback musical to go ahead (sigh) - Rendition, Zodiac, Batman in London and Arcade Who?

Earlier this summer, the first rumours appeared concerning the possibility of Brokeback Mountain being converted into a musical. The idea didn't go down well here - I remember someone talking about throwing fruit, another talked of picket lines and someone else even mentioned Kalashnikov rifles. So I'd prepare to duck if I were you, because today the New York Daily News reported the musical is to go ahead.

'"Brokeback Mountain" writer Annie Proulx has given the go-ahead to an opera based on her story about two gay cowboys, we hear. Fellow Pulitzer Prize winner Charles Wuorinen will compose. Producer Beckett Swede, whose Future Music has mounted Gordon Getty's operas, is also creating "Popra: Famous for 15 Minutes ... My Years With Andy Warhol," written by former Warhol superstar Ultra Violet.' The idea of Jack Twist (played by someone other than Jake Gyllenhaal) sitting outside his pup tent, staring down at Ennis' camp fire, all the time singing to the sheep and coyotes, is enough to make my blood curdle.

A chance to listen to Gavin, Kelley and Omar

So while I calm down from that particular unwelcome thought, here is a happier idea. If you live anywhere near LA, on Monday 1 October at 7pm you can go along to the Wadsworth Theater on Wilshire and for a mere $20 listen to Gavin Hood, supersexy screenwriter Kelley Sane (slight Toronto bias, I'm afraid), and the handsome and kind Omar Metwally discuss Rendition in Reeltalk with Stephen Farber.

More radiant Zodiac reviews

I hope you will forgive me for continuing to post the excellent reviews of one of my all time favourite films, Zodiac. Today, DVD Times made a fuss of Zodiac and harped back to two recent reviews of this superb film. The first, by Michael Mackenzie, says: 'the film ends up being portrayed primarily from the point of view of Graysmith, portrayed here by Jake Gyllenhaal, who gives the cartoonist turned amateur sleuth a likeable bumbling quality that gradually gives way to a steely determination and obsessive resolve to solve the case. Graysmith is inexperienced and in way over his head, and Gyllenhaal ably conveys his growing obsession. The character is often the butt of his colleagues' jokes, but the script never portrays him as a fool or stoops to laughing at his expense. The rest of the cast are equally impressive, in particular Mark Ruffalo, who literally loses himself in the role of the flamboyant Inspector Toschi... Zodiac is a top-notch film, one of the best of 2007, and potentially Fincher's best work to date.'

The other review, by Richard Booth, says: ' For the first time in years Fincher is prepared to take a step back from the camera and let his characters breathe, and allow the story to find its own rhythm. Whilst the film is certainly a long one, it is well paced and satisfyingly edited. Details have undoubtedly been squeezed around the narrative in the name of poetic license, but apparently the significant details remain. It appears to be a very authoritative account of the sprawling case... Well written with wonderfully assured yet unshowy direction from Fincher (not to mention gorgeous period design and some of the most appealing cinematography I've seen from the digital Viper FilmStream cameras), it is one of the best produced films of the year so far. Recommended.'

It's interesting that DVD Times reports that there are problems with the R2 picture quality. I have yet to see any of the R2 edition (I have just watched the documentary) so I can't comment. I will do when I have had a good look: 'The Warner Region 2 disc of Zodiac has been much criticised for its poor picture quality. Paramount’s Region 1 release appears to be better although I haven’t seen the R2 myself. Colours throughout are gorgeous, fully realising the muted colour palate used by the cinematographer. The level of grain is just right and there’s loads of detail. However, the bad news is the distracting shimmering which afflicts some daytime sequences, particularly the panning shots across the city landscape. There’s even some edge-enhancement in places.'

Jake and Arcade Fire

Jake was seen at another event at the Hollywood Bowl during the last week. On this occasion, Jake was spotted sinking into his seat and plugging his ears to the music of Arcade Fire. 'Jake Gyllenhaal, taking in an Arcade Fire concert at the Hollywood Bowl. The actor, incognito in a baseball cap and hooded sweatshirt, bobbed his head to the music but had to take cover when the noise got too loud, plugging his ears as the crowd cheered, says a fellow concertgoer. Also rocking out: Rod Stewart and wife Penny Lancaster, who were escorted in by security halfway through the show, and new Emmy winner James Spader.' So, who knows anything about Arcade Fire? The picture below is of Jake watching Gnarls Berkley at ACL last summer with Lance Armstrong because there are no pictures, as yet?, of this event.

And finally

I learned today that the filming of The Dark Knight had moved to London (well, I'm there every single day and I've not seen them yet...) but the information came as a footnote to an awful story - a special effects guy was killed on set.

I think that if Maggie (and/or Heath) is filming in London, and I have no idea if these scenes involve her, then her little brother should get over here too. It's good to be supportive and Maggie could probably do with a babysitter.

I will have to admit, WDW, that I have always been a fan of BBMt The Opera. I recall Ang Lee saying at Oscar awards that AP has given us two great characters - I think FOUR
great characters and I can imagine heartbreaking arias sung by Alma and Loreen.

I think it was Emma Thompson or Ang that said in commentary on Sense and Sensibility that we no longer have impediments to love - as there were one time, in terms of class, money, and other cultural no nos. Thus no Great Dramas. But BBMt is one.

Im interested that Brothers is, apparently, being remade. I think maybe there is the feeling that there is more to be said about the story.

Well, imho, there is more to be said about the BBMt story - witness the slash energy around the story!

I feel there is nothing that can take away from the film.

So, who knows anything about Arcade Fire? Lovely Rufus I love and adore, but Arcade Fire?

Arcade Fire are quite well-known, when their second album came out earlier this year, there was some media frenzy. I don't really care about Arcade Fire, but the way you wrote about them seemed a bit derogative to me.

I must say, I'm disappointed with Annie Proulx for giving the go-ahead to an BBM opera. *sigh*

Dammit. While I am a supporter of anything Brokeback, a Brokeback without Heath and Jake is simply not registering in my book.

I mean, didn't Annie Proulx already state that Heath and Jake completely reshaped the way that she had originally pictured Ennis and Jack? (someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going on memory here)

Whoever they choose to for Ennis and Jack is going to have REALLY BIG shoes to fill.

Hi Positively Pia - I can see what you're saying about how there is always room for more expression of BBM. And it is true that the fanfic energy testifies to the neverending appeal of the possibilities of the story - but, for me, whenever I read a story or now read the original story, it's with Jake and Heath's interpretation of the characters and they're now as much a part of Annie' story as the characetrs on the page. I just can't disassociate Jack and Ennis from Jake and Heath. I do agree that nothing can be taken from the film but I certainly wouldn't want to watch or listen to a BBM musical. I'm not as openminded as you are *)

Hi Katja - thanks for commenting :) And thanks for the information. I fear you're right - I'm a big music lover as I hope past posts and discussions show and Jake's taste for bands has led me to music I would never have given an ear to otherwise - and I always enjoy discovering new bands so I'll do some listening and get back to you. I'm glad you commented :)

Hi Fourplay and welcome! I have to agree with every word.

O/T Just saw this on IMDB, Taken with a pinch of salt but you never know.

"Jake Gyllenhaal is definitely going to the UK for press but not sure about a premiere."

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Anon - you can be as off topic as you like here, especially with info like that... :)

At the moment I can't find signs of a premiere anywhere, on either side of the pond, but it would be good news indeed if Jake were coming over to do the media here in the UK - it's been a while. But who knows. All too often, people just say things as fact... but this gives us something to dream about, so thanks Anon :)

I'm sure like many of us Brokeback Mountain fans, hearing that Annie gave her approval for it to be made in an opera....well, can't say I like the idea either. If it does actually happen, boy whoever those 2 actors will be are certainly going to have alot of pressure to deliver. I know so many of us are bias but, no actor can out do Jake and Heath's performance!

Arcade Fire is a very popular indie rock group from Montreal, Canada. I'm a music lover of all different genres....can't say I'm a huge fan of them myself. They were on the cover of Time, of which Time said that their "Canada's most intriguing rock band". I believe Heath too is a fan of theirs as well. They've gotten alot of exposure in the US and internationally I believe.

What a shame about the accident on the set of The Dark Knight. The final product of film makes things look so effortless and easy, but filming and stunts can be dangerous. :(

Re: Brokeback Mountain, the Opera

Now people - let's keep an open mind before we break out the tomatoes, protest placards and AK's! If Annie Proulx approves, it may have possibilities. :) Thanks WDW for this pic of Ennis and Jack getting to know each other before heading up with the sheep. I think I pretty much know every line by heart - "You from ranch people?" It's one of my favorite scenes - then again, pretty much all of them are! :)

I'd love to see Gavin Hood, Kelley Sane and Omar Metwally in LA - come to Boston too! :) Glad to hear that Zodiac is getting the appreciation it deserves - I did buy the original DVD and more than likely will get the Directors Cut -*sigh* what's a Jake fan to do. ;)

I am a little bit familiar with Montreal's own Arcade Fire. I like the song Rebellion (Lies). I'm a huge music fan, but every now and then I won't be familiar with a band or a song.

Thanks, WDW! ;)

Hi WDW...you cannot hear me right now , but I am screaming..."NOOOOOOOOOOO!" at the top of my lungs...I was so hoping this BBM musical was just a cruel joke or hoax...but when I read it here...I know it must be so...too too bad.... I totally agree with you...there is no one but Jake who can play Jack...and even though the boy can sing...(I sure did enjoy the repeat of SNL last Saturday) I cannot ever see him stooping to be in BBM..the muscical....Michele

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Jantoinette - I suppose that's the problem, we're all very biased and it's hard to climb down from that position and be objective about a musical. Annie seems to have the objectivity some of us lack! You're makijng Arcade Fire sound very intriguing - I usually like indie rock - so I'll try and find some bits on the net. I know next to nothing about Canadian rock as can be gathered..;) I'm a bit of a Snow Patrol, Killers and Razorlight kind of girl (who also likes hiphop) :D

Anonymous said...

This is kind of off-topic too, WDW. What is your opinion on the alleged Gyllenspoon romance? I've been wondering on this for a while now, and I figured, who better to ask (besides Jake) than someone who blogs about him? :)

Do you think it's true? Or is it a bunch of "hooplah"? You're probably much more informed about Jake-verse than I am. Personally, I think the media is dragging it out to be much more than it really is, but that's just me.

Marina and Michele - where did you come from...!

Marina - Now people - let's keep an open mind before we break out the tomatoes, protest placards and AK's! If Annie Proulx approves, it may have possibilities. - the voice of reason! (I fear Michele doesn't agree.) I just can't imagine some of our favourite scenes being reenacted in song - 'no more beans' - oh what would they do with that? Or, to be more serious, Jack sitting there on the mountain as Ennis joins him while they decide if the first night was the only night - it's Heath and Jake all the way for me. It's he quietness of the moment with the mountain air and the gentle music - not a stage with song and an orchestra :\

I'm afraid that a Jake fan just has to accept the inevitable and buy the goodies. Fortunately there is noone else that I would do that for.

Thanks for speaking up for Arcade Fire - Montreal eh?

Michele! We can all hear you! And I agree with you. You're not getting out the rotten fruit, are you?

" I certainly wouldn't want to watch or listen to a BBM musical. I'm not as openminded as you are *)"

Not sure im openminded WDW I do not have a reputation for being open minded. :) :)

I think this was stated to be an opera, not a musical: is there a difference Maybe maybe not, I dont know. Just being persnickity.

However I will say that I think Im not broadminded as much as "political" - I thought that ap's story and the film confronted
"family values" (that, like torture of innocents, does not always work), the macho myth, violence and homophobia in very clear and confrontational terms.

Just as Jack and Ennis are characters for posterity, so is, I think, the story.

Anonymous said...

p.s. and man! could I write heartrendering lyrics about Jake watching the fire of Ennis - and etc. also "no more beans" - OMG!-
that is the THEME of my life! :) :)

Hi Fourplay - you are so lucky being able to see Jake on SNL again - we've had 'abridged highlights' of Jake's show which missed out my favourite sketch with the meatballs.

I don't tend to like gossip on WDW because I try to focus on the films, aspects of Jake's life that provide broader interest (such as food, music etc) and his appeal. I do have an opinion like most other people, and it's probably not the opinion people expect, but I keep that for private communication and elsewhere, as this site is solely about Jake. Please feel free to email me :)

I was about to start ranting about this new version of BBM (as if Paddington Bear swapping marmalade sandwiches for Marmite wasn't bad enough - is nothing sacred these days?!) but I'm too excited about the prospect of Jake paying us a visit that I've calmed myself down now :D I'm still not happy about it (the BBM opera thing, not Jake in London!) but I'm hoping Annie Proulx wouldn't have agreed to it without being sure that it respects the spirit of the film and Heath and Jake's portrayal of Ennis and Jack. I don't really want to even think about it though:(

Ok, so what TV shows do we want to see Jake on? Top of my list is Jonathan Ross, but I think with the subject matter of Rendition it would be good to see him on say, Question Time (well, they had the bloke who used to play Nicky Platt in Corrie on there a while back!) or the Wright Stuff,Or maybe Have I Got News For You. I think it would be more interesting than the usual what attracted you to this role/what did you learn making this film/who are you sharing your duvet with these days? type of questions he gets asked all the time.
Ok, I'm getting carried away, think I should put the brakes on;) I'll just be happy to see him on TV- if he shows *taking a swig of beer*;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Positively Pia - thanks for that great comment. I love the way you talk about BBM. Hmmm pera vs musical. Am I crazy but I find the idea of an operatic Ennis and Jack even worse. It doesn't seem in keeping at all with Wyoming, Texas and the great open spaces. The themes you mention are eternally potent and huegly important - I just prefer to keep them for the Jack and Ennis that I've grown so close to and they're linked entirely to Jake and Heath - that is my failing, not Annie's.

I'm ready for your No More Beans lyrics :)

"I'm ready for your No More Beans lyrics"

Well, thats all I ask of you, WDW, or of anyone. :) :) :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I write a comment and I miss you!

Hey Positively Pia - Fortunately I have all of SNL now due to the kindness of a friend in the US who sent me a DVD, but also through IHJ. I just thought it a shame that the version on UK TV missed out this ridiculously cool sketch - as I love it!

Twisted Logic - don't set me off about Paddington Bear and Marmite. I had a huge discussion about this with Mr WDW the other night. I adore marmite but it's an outrage to associate Paddington Bear with the suff... So we're consoled by the thought of Jake perhaps coming back to the city that loves him so much. We can hope.

Good question about the shows. Now if Jake IS coming over to Blighty then he has to do Jonathan Ross of course. And now Parkinson's back on (J Lopez this week). I don't think Jake's don't that show yet so that would be a good one. How about a cookery programme? Wre don't seem to have too many suitable shows over here so it would have to be Ross. I like the idea of Question Time. How about Never Mind the Buzzcocks? I'd love to hear Jake doing the Guess the song intro game.

You're lucky you're on the beer, I seem to have moved on to Jamieson ;)

It's stretched my finances a bit, having to buy a "Zodiac" DVD and a Kolashnikov on the same day! "Brokeback - The Opera"??!! Gordon Bennett!! Do you think if I threaten Annie with the AK47 she'll change her mind?!

Strange, isn't it, that it's her story, her characters who she admitted "lived" with her for a long time after she'd written the story and yet she is far more willing to surrender them to other people's interpretations than we are?

I'm afraid I belong to the closed-mind brigade for whom Jake and Heath ARE Jack and Ennis and always will be. An operatic version conjures up ludicrous and sacrilegious visions for me.

Good to hear views on "Brothers" from those who've seen the Danish original and tantalising to hear that Jake might be coming to Britain for "Rendition" publicity! Everything crossed!

Sad to hear, though, of the death of the technician on the set of TDK. R.I.P. Condolences to his family.

Cherita said...

Uh, gang...I checked it out earlier, just because the idea of BBM, the opera, makes me violently ill. There was absolutely nothing in that NY Daily News article that wasn't already said back in July. I repeat, nothing new has been said. We are no closer to this atrocity than we were a couple of months ago when it was first floated.

Honestly, I don't wish to offend fans of opera. I think an opera might be acceptable to me if that were its original form. But there is something about taking these rugged, unassuming characters and making them sing to each other that just defiles the dignity of their story, in my eyes.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Nadine - thanks for that wonderful comment. Strange, isn't it, that it's her story, her characters who she admitted "lived" with her for a long time after she'd written the story and yet she is far more willing to surrender them to other people's interpretations than we are? - I find this strange too and yet Annie doesn't. It shows the power of her words, we're caught in them and in the characters but now we're also a part of Ang's contribution to he story - Jake and Heath. We share that closed mind on this one.

Fingers crossed for Jake crossing the pond and love to you for your closing comment :)

I apologise for my spelling this evening - it's not all down to Jamieson, but to my very long day :(

Hi Cherita I'm with you completely on this. BBM changed my life and I feel I have a vested interest in what happens to it. So let's hope this is just a regurgitation of old news.

But there is something about taking these rugged, unassuming characters and making them sing to each other that just defiles the dignity of their story, in my eyes. Absolutely!

Hey WDW! Glad we agree on the Marmite thing;) I love it too, but Paddington? Nooooo!

I wouldn't mind too much if Jake gives Parky a miss, I stopped watching him ages ago cos he's become really bland and sycophantic these days (imo anyway). It would be like "So, Jake- you're young, talented, intelligent, drop dead gorgeous...how do you manage to be so likeable and down to earth?" Ok, it's true in Jake's case but I can't see Parky bringing out Jake's sense of humour like say, the Conon O'Brien interview:D
Buzzcocks would be great though, as long as it's still Simon Amstell (is that his name?) doing it, cos I can't stand Mark Lamar. Or maybe he could do the Orange Playlist thing, where the guests pick their favourite songs. Oh, to be a TV exec and be able to say "get me Jake Gyllenhaal" and be in with a chance of getting him!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Twisted Logic - I don't normally wath Parky myself but I caught the interview with James McAvoy (spelling?) on there tis weekend and I enjoyed that. I don't think we have the shows over here to compete with Conan and Stewart, with the exception of Ross. I'm trying to repel the thought of Jake being interviewed by Richard and Judy ;)

Anonymous said...

Oh I missed James McAvoy!:( I don't think R&J are on atm, it's Paul O'Grady's turn, but I wouldn't be too keen on either. You're right we don't have anyone to realy compare to Letterman, O'Brien, Stewart, etc, that's why raher than see him on the trditonal shows HW people go on, I'd rather see him on somthing a bit different.Or, I read that they're filming an Extras Xmas special, so I would LOVE it if he did a cameo in that. It was good enough for Robert De Niro:) I'd also love it if Jake did an episode of The Simpsons. Ok, I'm going way off topic, sorry! Goodnight everyone:)

PS: Cherita, thanks for restoring calm about the BBM opera thing:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I saw James McAvoy at the Baftas - he turned up shortly before Jake - but, because of Jake, I didn't give James the attention he deserves. Well, we didn't give him any attention at all ;) Please not Paul O'Grady :(

G'night :D

I cannot for the life of me imagine any sort of Ennis dancing and singing in a musical. I mean, so much more of the interaction between Jack and Ennis is unspoken, rather than verbal, so I'm at a loss as to how they can possibly carry over the effect in a musical.

I have to agree with Cherita on this one.

Anonymous said...

'Dead Man Walking' made a terrific opera.

I think BBMt has exciting possibilities as an opera. It would be a completely different piece of art, as different as the movie was from the short story. But if done with the right composer, librettist, production and director, it could be tremendously moving psychological drama.

Anonymous said...

I think the difference btwn an opera and a musical is that musicals have specific songs. But they are mostly spoken dramatizations. In an opera, every single syllable is sung. So, yes. An aria on, "No more beans!" would be entirely appropriate in an opera. Then there are operettas which have some spoken words, but are mostly singing, too. Anyway, WDW, I hope this is a total hoax. Cherita was reasssuring.I know there are ppl here who will disagree with me, but I hope and I pray that Annie Proulx did NOT give her permission for such a thing to happen. Period.

For some strange reason, I am not buying the story of Jake at the Hollywood Bowl two nights in a row to see Arcade Fire.I think who ever floated this rumor is blowing smoke. They even copied the hat he wore as the same, the outfit and the fact that some reports of the Rufus concert had Jake slumped in his seat. So I'm inclined to think it's just a "cut and paste" job. It's happened before a couple of times. Someone took a picture of Drew Barrymore and her new boyfriend from the rear and said he was Jake at the ACL concert in Texas the other day. Jake flew from NYC to LA on Sunday. He had a brunch in NYC and a dinner mtg in LA at Il Sole. No Texas. But he did go last year to Texas, so maybe it's someone touting the ACL festival and name dropping, the inference being all these famous people were there this year.

Thanks for the info on Kelli Sane and Gavin Hood with Omar (seriously hot) Metwally appearing in LA for a screening and Q & A on Rendition. I would seriously encourage people to go. Not only will you have a very incredible experience to see the movie (!) and talk to the principles, but...you never know who else might suddenly turn up without any fanfare...just sayin'

I think BBM was a life-changing film for all of us; just thinking about anyone messin' with it make me need a Jameson's straight up! But let's see what happens with it, you never know . . . ;)

I was in the bookstore today looking for Interview, it's a big, beautiful, glossy mag and I can't wait to see Jake's beautiful pics in it. Lots of good articles about upcoming films too.

Speaking of which, did you see they have them posted on IHJ and in the Apollo Woodsman pic, there's what looks to be a log cabin. Chopping wood means roaring fire in log cabin *thud* - make that Jameson's a double! ;)

Goodnight, all! :*

>>>>>So, who knows anything about Arcade Fire? (WDW)

When Jake presented on the 2007 BAFTAs, the music that was playing when he walked out (about 10 seconds worth) is "Wake Up" by Arcade Fire. :-)

I had their "Funeral" CD for awhile in 2005. I liked their music (the musical arrangements) but I just could not listen to the lead singer's voice for long. Although I still like "Crown of Love". Beautiful song.

Goodnight from me, too. :-)

I definitely have to pick up Interview magazine over the weekend. Jake chopping wood is too good to pass up, although I must admit that the bicycle one is my favorite.

I imagine Jake will probably turn up on Radio 5 Live, as he's been on there with Simon Mayo before (I didn't catch it that time) and maybe the Film Prog on Radio 4. As for tv, I guess 'Ready, Steady, Cook' is too much to hope for?

And musically? The Shins, Rufus, Arcade Fire. It's all a bit generic Indie 101 for my liking.

Ruby said...

I love The Arcade Fire. They are Canadian and there are lots of them! I saw them at a festival a couple of years ago and they are great live. They made the whole audience bounce. :D

Ruby said...

me again! thanks Neely, you got there before me on the Bafta music, I didn't spot that before I posted - not paying attention. :) :)

Not sure what to say about the BBM opera. I love the story and I love the film but have no interest in opera. But it's Annie Proulx's story do do what she wants with it, so if she thinks it will work, who am I to disagree? I won't be queueing up for tickets though.

WDW - you may not have taken much notice of James McAvoy at Bafta, but I did! :D Most of my photos are attempts to get a shot of him. I didn't succeed very well :( Wish I'd known he was on Parky, I would like to have seen that. I think Jake should be interview by Jonathan Ross, they could have fun together. :D Please save us from Richard and Judy! :D

Hey Anons :) This site's official position on The Sunday Issue is that it doesn't know where Jake was because it does not have direct access to Jake's travel plans. So let's have some harmony (in a non-operatic BBM way of course).

BBM, the Opera. I can't deal with this. It'll be horribly lame. Sorry. Maybe Annie wants the cash, high-minded and wonderful though she is.

IF Jake visits the UK imminently ...

*plans time off*

... I'd definitely like him to do Ross; NOT Parky; Buzzcocks would be great (yes, preferably with Simon Amstell) because it would show Jake out of "context", which is always fantastic. Richard & Judy would be pretty surreal, as would Paul O'Grady. OT, I saw Paul in Fortnums recently, buying cakes for his young boyfriend; he (Paul) is WAY more tall, attractive and stylish than you could ever imagine from the telly.

I'd love to see Jake on Jonathan Ross's show. Jake has hinted in the past that his sense of humour can veer into the risque at times and I'm sure he would be more than capable of giving JR a taste of his own medicine and a run for his money,to mix a couple of metaphors.

I love JR's show,he can be so funny, even though his humour sometimes goes too far even for my broad tastes. It would make such a refreshing change for a guest to turn the tables on Jonathan and get the better of him in witty exchanges, rather than being made mincemeat of,as happens with most of his guests.

I'm up for "Buzzcocks" and "Ready Steady Cook" and it would be the best "Question Time" EVER with Jake on the panel!

Oh and Marina, you mentioned the log cabin in the wood-chopping shot. Maybe it was Don Wroe's cabin......?

Also, re: 'Rendition' publicity, Amnesty are having a special screening of 'Tsotsi' on the 23rd October. There's a Q & A afterwards with the filmmakers, so maybe Hood will be in the UK for that.

Hi everyone :) I wish there were more hours in the day and that I didn't have to spend so many of them on the road...
There have been so mny great comments today - thanks, I've thoroughly enjoyed reading them all.

Jasmine - thanks for giving the other point of view to the opera idea. It's always good to hear another view :)

Hey Bobbyanna - I don't know about these sightings. I tend to think Jake was at both - he loves his music and he sure can get the best seats. He also gets hooked on favourite pieces of clothing so I can see that cap staying on Jake's head for some time :) If I were in LA I would definitely make an effort to attend Gavin's event.

Hi Marina - I was looking at those photos on IHJ and at the Interview website. I've put a couple on the site today. The uncluttered cover image is sensational in my opinion.

Neely - thanks so much for telling me that Arcade Fire sang 'Jake's song' at the Baftas. I've often wondered what that was. Ruby sent me a link to a YouTube video of that song so I'm going there next to watch it.

Hi Bmg - we're all going to have to be very alert and let each other know about any possible interviews - especially radio. That's so easy to miss.

Anon 12:59 JAKE = JACK, AND I COULDN'T WATCH ANYONE ELSE INHABIT THAT SOUL. I was so moved when I read this earlier today - by what you say and by your passion for Jack. Thanks for sharing it here :)

Hey Twisted Logic - thanks for the link. I couldn't wait to get home from work so I could check out the new pictures - they're on the new post. So Jake ws in green Park with you was he. That's strange as I thought he was in Finsbury Circus with another 30s something :) Oops, no, that was another dream...

Hi Anouska - Yumm, Fortnums. I love their chocolates. Oh yes, definitely time to think about holiday plans :)

hey Nadine - I'd LOVE to see Jake on Ready Steady Cook! That would be wonderful - I love to see him doing the unexpected. But JR would be fantastic as Jake can definitely hold his own, as yu say. It's been a while since Jake did any shows over here. I think it's time :D

That's a good point Bmg - I love Kanye West's new album by the way... Thanks for the link about Tsotsi - very interesting to think Gavin could be in the UK so close to 19 october. Thanks very much...
