Rendition promotion steps up and Jake's get away

Yesterday was, I believe, Press Day for Rendition, which means, hopefully, more interviews may soon be on the way. More clips are also being released. Here is a link to five scenes from Rendition just made available by New Line - the fourth is the infamous 'Pie chart' scene - well, the cleaned up version anyway.

Interview magazine and Jake's duet

Extra TV released a brief video clip of Reese Witherspoon talking about her life with young children and, at the end, there's Jake Gyllenhaal being asked what he thinks about Interview magazine. Jake's asked what his friends think about it, to which he replies that he's not had many calls about it, but Jake thanks the interviewer when she agrees with the magazine that Jake is indeed the hottest bachelor in America. Well, it would certainly be difficult to argue with her.

Talking of Interview magazine, this magazine contained some of the finest pictures I've seen of Jake in some time - but one new picture released from the shoot is, for me, one of the very worst. It looks like Jake's been airbrushed with a mop. But striking a better note, the magazine has hidden away in it a thank you to Jake's photographer Mark Seliger, who says: '"What I like about Jake is that he's got a fun, gentle side,"... The pair even took time to harmonize on what Seliger describes as "a pretty C-minus version" of John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery."' How I wish a recording of that may come to light some day! Thanks to a good friend for letting me know.

Jake leaves a party with Charlie's Angels

When Jake left a private party in LA on 28 September, he had to suffer the unpleasantness of paps climbing over the bonnet of his car and flashing their cameras in his eyes. Jake's multi-tasking powers are legendary - manouevering car doors, dogs, coffee all at the same time - but it seems unfair to be expected to drive with people hurling themselves in front of you while blinding you with cameras. Having spent more hours in my car over the last week than should be allowed by European law, I can only marvel at the comfort and cleanliness of Jake's car (I wonder if he gets someone to wash it). I'm not surprised that a blanket protects the back seat from Atticus' muddy paws.

And finally

A reminder that tomorrow is the day when Rendition receives a special screening in LA, accompanied by a question and answer session with Gavin Hood, screenwriter Kelley Sane and actor Omar Metwally.

Thanks for pointing out the thank-you bit, WDW--the magazine is a visual feast but it might have been months before I bothered to actually read anything in it besides Jake's interview. :P Yes, let's hope more promotional interviews are on the way.

Hi Cherita - I know, all these magazines with Jake in and I never usually read another word in them - this was all thanks to Beckela (who has the mag and I don't, sigh) who saw this little, personal bit, loved it, and so do I. I hope too that more interviews will be released over the next few days.

Anonymous said...

LOL about not actually reading magazines containing pics of Jake! I found that little Seliger tidbit while looking for the interview with Jake -- cussing a blue streak because, as are most of this type, the mag is mostly ads. About 85%, I'd say. Sheesh! I couldn't even find the table of contents.

Another thing I noticed: at the top of the page of credits it has "Andy Warhol's Interview" as the full name of the magazine. I had no idea!

There are other interesting interviews with Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution" star, Tang Wei, as well as Viggo Mortensen, Sean Penn and Annie Lennox. Oh, yes, and Jason Schwartzman whom Richard Kelly originally wanted as Donnie Darko. Fortunately, fate intervened there.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Beckela - it drives me mad when I can't find the contents in a magazine... :\ A fortunate coincidence that this issue also features Ang but I fear I wouldn't get past the bike and chopping pics :)

Thank heavens Richard Kelly saw the light - I believe he was also considering Vince Vaughan - can you imagine?!

Hello,

Lots of great Rendition promotion to enjoy and I'm loving every minute of it. Thanks for all the clips, WDW. I love when Jake gets all modest in interviews. Still haven't gotten Interview magazine, hopefully this week. They still had last month's issue out at the B&N. :(

I so hope that we'll get to hear Jake's and Mark Seliger's version of Angel from Montgomery. A Brokeback kind of song. :')

Have a great Sunday, all. :)

Anonymous said...

hey, marina! the guy at one of the local B&Ns said he had two october issues at the counter waiting for me. my heart was pounding as I approached the counter only to find - MARIAH CAREY! - the guy whom I'd spoken two TWICE on the phone went into the back room, and so forth and returned all apologies whereupon I said I was going to go home and kill myself.

A very cute guy at the counter said OMG it's too beautiful a day to kill yourself, wait for a rainy day, but, actually, he was upset to see me upset and followed me around the store asking if he could call Pricechopper, or something, what could he do? sweet Jake energy, eh?

what was the moral of this story? I think that there is sweet Jake energy all ready to follow you around in bad times.

anyway sorry if this is TMI about my Saturday.

I feel very (untowardly?) protective of Jake, always, and the latest pap pictures were disturbing. and gosh yes, that clean car! I guess he can just trade in for a new one when the doggy smells get to be too much.

I loved the mini-interview, Jake looks healthy and happy and he seems to protect himself very well, I should stop worrying - turning the question about Interview right back to the interviewer - "Im interested in what you thought" The guy knows how to RELATE - what a gift! what a guy!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

i Marina - hope you're having a good Sunday :D I've been listening to Angel from Montgomery on YouTube. How I'd love to hear Jake sing that... 'When I was a young girl and I had me a cowboy' :)

I just adore the modest moments in Jake's interviews too. It's a good time.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Positively Pia OH NO!! I was reading your comment while listening to Angel from Montgomery and it just felt so suitable. I hope that this guy does his bit now and gets you a whole armful of the OCTOBER issue as compensation. Naked Mariah Carey is not what we want ;) I hope your weekend improved after that.

I love cars (I know, I'm sad) and so I always like to see pictures of Jake driving his - although it would have been better without the paps actually hurling themselves under and over the car and giving Jake a fright. I get the impression the whole car is very colour coordinated (even the dog blanket matched) and it was so hoovered inside. And no cuddly mascot on the dashboard? Or cat footprints on the windscreen? I would love a car with an armrest.

That is such an interesing point to highlight - that Jake does know how to relate - creating a momentary relationship - and how to use his incredible charm.

Anonymous said...

LOL Pia -

No, Mariah Carey is just a complete disappointment when you're waiting for The Gyllenhaal! Nothing personal, Mariah. ;)

Yeah, I get all unnecessarily protective of him too, when I see more-intrusive-than-already-instrusive pap pics and disrespectful gossipy stuff, but we know he can take care of himself, so I have to tell myself to back off! :)

Anonymous said...

Now that Ive calmed down a bit after the intrusiveness of the pap photos - and oh,evem imposed upon, the man IS beautiful. And it looks like the scsrf he's wearing is one of those Thai silk scarves - I almost bought one in the same shade! I'm wearing one now in brilliant orange, guess why, and it sorta shreds into wonderful tatters.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for these vids WDW! I only watched the clip of Jake's scene and just watched the others with the sound down, so I can avoid spoilers but not miss Jake. I have to say I'm still really impressed by Reese's character playing football - when I was that pregnant it was all I could do to heave myself up off the sofa! I so can't wait to see Rendition - less than 3 weeks now!!!

Add my name to the "can't help feeling protective of Jake" club. I know it probably wasn't as big a deal as I was making it out to be last night, but I don't like seeing him looking pissed off or unhappy. Or with so much facial fuzz, but that's another matter;)
Btw, anyone got any idea what the Charlie's Angels pic is all about? I used to LOVE that show when I was a kid:D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Marina I agree that Jake can look after himself but it is a good feeling to be so protective of him :)

Positively Pia - love the idea of you in the orange silk. That's a beautiful scarf Jake's wearing. He just looks so good. Also, I admire anyone who can go to a party and doesn't need to be chauffered home - not managed that one myself ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Twisted Logic - we were posting at the same time... I don't blame you being upset for the pictures. I couldn't ignore them though, they exist and they reveal a great deal about what it can be like on occasions, fortunately not everyday, and the ludicrous lengths paps can go to, even putting themselves in danger.

But on a lighter note, I'm intrigued by the Charlie's Angels thing too - can't be a birthday card so a good luck card of some sort? Maybe this means Jake is known to be a fan of 70s shows! I loved Charlie's Angels - especially Kate Jackson. There is a lot of facial fuzz, surely it's gonna go soon?

Anonymous said...

WDw, don't get me wrong I wasn't saying you shouldn't post them. Ignoring them isn't going to make them go away, and we all have to take the rough with the smooth so to speak! And I'm not just talking facial hair!

Btw,my favourite Angel was Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) - my two best friends and I used to call each other by our "Angel" names and spent many an afternoon running around hiding behind trees staking out "villains" :D Ah there's nothing like a bit of nostalgia on a Sunday afternoon...

Anonymous said...

Pia, your orange silk scarf sounds beautiful!

Twisted, I have to admit, Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) was my favorite Angel too, but I loved them all. :)

Oh dear, I've just gone to listen to "Angel Of Montgomery" sung by John Prine on Youtube. He's obviously a better writer than he is a singer,so I flicked over to Bonnie Raitt's great version of said song. How much would we all love to hear Jake's version?! Or of any song for that matter, especially a heart-breaker.While amongst the Bonnie Raitt clips I put on her version of "I Can't Make You Love Me". God I feel wistful now. I was going to go back for the lovely George Michael version of the same song, but not sure I can face it :-(

Maybe I'm still a bit bluesy cos I'm haunted by those Pap pics. My feelings towards Jake are not often maternal (unless we're going to get into Oedipus territory here),but when I read or see anything where he seems threatened or upset, by anyone or anything, it brings out the She-Wolf in me and no mistake, and I'm growling and snarling git to bust! (Hey Twisted Logic! We're both rabidly over-protective of a grown man and both wanting to get the Remington buzzing around his facial hair!
;-) )

I'm as incredulous about the Paps' behaviour as I am about Richard Kelly ever having considered Vince Vaughan as Donnie Darko! Happily, some things are just pre-destined,and Jake landing that part was one of them.

Poor Pia! I can just imagine your disappointment about being given false promises by the bloke in the newsagents. Don't worry,I'm sure you'll get a copy in the end and if our hopes are substantiated we'll have more interviews/photos to drool over...er,I mean consider intellectually,... over the coming weeks.

You're right about Jake's car looking clean and tidy, but then he probably uses a valet service (as do I,most of the time...it's called my husband. The feminists of the world are about to pelt me with rotting fruit!).

Your comment about the co-ordinating blanket in the back,WDW, gave me a flash-back to an OT incident from years ago which I hadn't thought of in years! As the usual nominated driver,I was taking my mate home from a party and a couple of blokes we'd known for a while, and seemed nice enough, tried to cadge a lift. As I wasn't alone I took pity on them, not thinking that the blanket I kept thrown over the back seat for when I had my Auntie's dog in the car would cause any comment. It transpired however that these blokes, one of them in particular, surmised that the blanket was a sign that I might be up for a spot of the old horizontal tango in the back seat! After I'd got my chin off the floor,I pulled up,told them to get out of the car and go and slam it in a drawer! Honestly!

But enough of my rambling, back to Jake. I couldn't get the clips of "Rendition" to play all the way through (but, just think, less than three weeks before it hits the big screen, now!) but loved the little snippet where he was captivating the interviewer(Simon Cowell's girlfriend- yes,he does have one - unless I'm very much mistaken) with an endearing charm offensive. That's more like the Jake image I need to keep in my head to lift my spirits, bless his heart!

I can't believe the nerve of the paps sometimes! Grr! Paparazzi dogs! That's like harassment right there, but I really like the scarf and facial hair action going on there.

Jake looks really smexy in that Rendition screencap. I mean REALLY smexy. And I agree that whatever sort of filter they used on the guitar pic really looks overdone, especially because I keep thinking Jake has grey hair in that pic. It kind of reminds me of this picture, although I must admit that one is A LOT worse...We need more shirtless Jake :), but I don't think he'll be too forthcoming considering the recent pap assassination attempts.

Those trailers make me really impatient to watch Rendition! I'm sure it'll be a great movie!

^^Nadine, great post - my car detailer is my hubby too, good thing he doesn't mind. :)

I downloaded Bonnie Raitt's version with John Prine of Angel from Montgomery, and I love her I Can't Make You Love Me as well. :'( *sigh* I'd love to hear Jake's version, and just more of him musically.

On a lighter note, I love her song Thing Called Love. I love the line "I ain't no Queen a Sheba, but you ain't no Prince Charmin'. ;)

See you all later, :*

Ah! I cannot for the life of me decide whether I like shaved or fuzzy Jake better, but I do agree with you that those paps have no conscience.

How I'd love to hear Jake sing that... 'When I was a young girl and I had me a cowboy' :)
This idea wins for life! I would pay good money to see that.

I loved the mini-interview, Jake looks healthy and happy and he seems to protect himself very well, I should stop worrying - turning the question about Interview right back to the interviewer - "Im interested in what you thought" The guy knows how to RELATE - what a gift! what a guy!
That man's charm is enough to make anyone blush. How he can pull off cute and sexy at the same time is beyond me!

Hi Twisted Logic - no it's OK, I know what you meant *) I have similar feelings - I like the way you express it - rough with the smooth. As Jake would say - so appropos.

When I was at school I used to run a little club called Angels. So ny years ago, I'm surprised I can still remember. I sent you another email btw.

hi Nadine - I listened to both versions too and much preferred Bonnie Raitt's. What a beautiful song, not particularly cheery though for a Sunday afternoon when I'm trying to keep my spirits up.

It makes me feel happy thinking how protective we all feel of Jake here, just how it should be - Oedipus Complex or not - I rpefer to think not ;)

As for the clean car, Mr WDW MADE me wash my car last week - he had drawn a big smiley on the bonnet - as for the inside... so a blanket is a sign of favouring some backseat horizontal tango - hmmm :D I thought that girl looked familiar and now I see why.

Hi Fourplay - I'm glad you agr with me about the Guitar Jake pic. It just makes me wonder what they've done to him. You won't be disappointed by Rendition Jake, that's for sure.

Hey Marina those are beautiful songs. I've been listening to Arcade Wild on my long drive today - I'm a convert.

O gosh! Bonnie Raitt! Gimme an angel. Jake has been that angel for so many. whut a burden to bear! bless yr heart, Jacob outta H'wood. love ya to death!

And, of course, the protective instinct enters in. "hottest bachelor in America" - ogosh god save the boy. no longer boy, he says. (gosh did he ever put the OY in boy!) "some people don't grow up: (who d'you have in mind, Jake? (Just asking. :) :) )

WDW Im glad to be able to sorta speak my mind, here, and figure it's more speak than squeak. also, other posters - thanks!

Oh Nadine, your car blanket story cracked me up!:D Not to mention the images it's putting in my head. Think I'll go and watch the "fast or slow, I just like the direction you're going" scene from BBM *drool* Be honest though, Nadine, would you have given the blokes such short shrift if one of them had been Mr G ? I'll admit if it was me he would find out what the blanket was for before he'd even seen it was there!

I have to speak up on behalf of the Guitar pic- ok, it's not his best pic ever, but Jake does have very high standards. Plus he's smiling and showing some chest AND playing guitar, which is always sexy. Works for me anyway!

I emailed you back btw, WDW :)

Hey Twisted Logic, it's a DOG BLANKET.

In my own personal fantasies. (you dont need to KNOW this), when The Beloved suggests "parking" I always say say, no way, let's do it right. No dog blanket. And THAT
S THAT!

whatever. :)

Hi WDW, I can't thank you enough; all the new Rendition sites have me in hog heaven, doing my happy dance.
I hope I can get the magazine next week...maybe. I may have to comb the news stands...but that's OK.
A member of another forum pointed out earlier today, that the sweater Jake is wearing on the cover of Interview Magazine, is similar to one Heath has worn in the past...and it is. One more reason to buy the magazine. I need to check Jake's magazine cover clothes credits.
I do love that thready torn look on both men:)

Good morning everyone! Monday but at least that's one day nearer til Rendition :D

Passionately Pia - I am so glad you speak your mind here as you say so much for me too *)

Hey Twisted Logic - Maybe I should study the picture more - purely as a scientific experiment - to see if it appeals to me more. At first I didn't like the cover so much and now I think it's one of my favourite pictures - a mixture of the intense stare and the cheekbones, I think. But I do love the idea of Jake playing the guitar - is there no end to our guy's talents? I think not.

Hi Sass! I saw those comparison pics of Jake and Heath's jumpers and they certainly look very similar to me!

Hollywood Elsewhere reports:

"Jim Sheridan's remake of Susanne Bier's Brothers, a first-rate, Danish-language 2004 drama, will costar Tobey Maguire as the older, responsible, married brother who goes off to Iraq, Natalie Portman (he said) as Maguire's wife, and Jake Gyllenhaal as the younger fuck-up brother who begins to fill his brother's familial duties when Maguire disappears during a skirmish and is presumed dead."

Thank you as always for all your findings: Yay for Rendition Promotional Tour! And I'm quite sure he will be in Rome because he has to promote himself, here in Italy he's not enough famous yet! He have to be here in order to convince more people to go and watch the film...(I hope);)

Happy Monday folks! I would normally be about to wazz off to work for my afternoon shift, but I'm still in my nightie and dressing gown, with a hot water bottle against my back and a supply of tissues, throat sweets and paracetamol within easy reach. I've got one of those fluey colds that make everything ache and I feel like something the cat's had,but having the lurgy has some compensations i.e. time for a little light Jaking,an unexpected bonus :-)

Glad I gave you a giggle,TL, and looking back now it was quite funny ,although I felt rather insulted at the time. And yes,"Fantasy me" would definitely put the blanket to good use with Mr.G,I'd trip him up and be underneath him before he hit the ground! "Real me",however, taking the fact that I'm married out of the equation, would just be grateful for a snog and a chat, and would want to take my time getting to know young Jacob before I went any further (what a glorious scenario that would be!). I know,I'm just an old-fashioned girl...

I mentioned the similarity between Jake and Heath's jumpers here the other day,but said, possibly mistakenly, that Heath's was brown. Having looked back at some of the pictures since,it looks the same colour as the one Jake is wearing on the "Interview" cover. Could even be the same jumper ;-) ?!! Well,Jake has shared clothes with friends before :-)

So Natalie Portman might be up for the role of Jake's sister-in-law in "Brothers"? Certainly an improvement on Mischa Barton. I haven't actually seen any of Natalie's acting performances, but from what I've read she's a good actress and an intelligent girl, quite apart from the fact that she and Jake have been friends for years,so maybe theirs would be a great combination.

As for the guitar pic,WDW, I actually love it,airbrushed to within an inch of its life as it may be. Strange for me,in that I often find the photos where Jake is looking serious, smouldering, wistful, or sometimes even downright sad, the most compelling and memorable,(it's that over-protective streak again, probably),but I love this because Jake's smile looks so natural and unforced and it reaches his eyes too. Mmmmmmmmm happy Jake, great therapy for this particular sickie :-) !

Anonymous said...

Hi guys! does anyone have a link to the pic of Heath wearing Jake's top? Just so I can compare and contrast;) Not sure if I should cos it might trigger a relapse back into RPS fantasy land, which I got over a while ago now, but my curiosity is getting the better of me!

(((Nadine))) Hope you're feeling better soon xx

KeepCalm+CarryOn said...

Sorry,TL,I'm too much of a techno-thickie to link to the pic but I'm sure someone else will come up with the goods.

I'm impressed, you managed to tear yourself away from RPS fantasy land! I'm still wallowing in it,my favourite guilty pleasure ;-)

And thank you for the hug! Much needed and appreciated :-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks for that Anon. I was emailed the good news too... I can feel a post coming on ;)

Hi Xenia - thanks for the email, I'll be able to write this evening :D The Jake Rendition Tour - sounds excellent to me. Hope you had a good weekend break.

Oh Nadine - your comment had me laughing outloud in the stuffy office! Thanks for that on this miserable wet Monday. So you'd be an old-fashioned girl with JG then - settling for a 'snog and a chat' (in that order?) - I appreciate your restraint :D

Those jumpers sure look the same to me ;) Maybe Jake just lives by the philosophy of 'my clothes are your clothes'. If the jumper was Heath's it could have been a lot worse ....

Hope you feel much better soon and I'm glad airbrushed happy jake is helping!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Twisted Logic - I can't link to it from work, so I will do as soon as I get in :)

Anonymous said...

^Thanks WDW! Look forward to it:)

Nadine,I only got over the RPS fantasy thing when I realised that in my fantasy world I don't want to share Jake with ANYONE! But I do allow the occasional exception ;)
Er...better change the subject...

Definitely agree about Natalie Portman rather than Mischa Barton :)

Glad I'm not the only one who likes the Guitar pic! I'm imagining Jake sitting on a hillside, strumming away, singing Beatles songs....

Anonymous said...

Hate the intrusive, terrifying paps pics (refuse to even look at them), love the guitar pic! It appears so natural despite airbrushing. Maybe that's when Jake and Seliger were harmonizing -- was that pic taken by Seliger?

I remember reading a long time ago that Jake was seen at his hotel somewhere carrying a guitar case. Who knows the truth, but I choose to assume he plays.

KeepCalm+CarryOn said...

Hello all, thanks for the get well wishes. Think I need someone to rub my chest with Vick (we're back in fantasy land again, TL,and I'm sure I recognise and approve of your honourable exceptions ;-) Oooer,I'm feeling even more weak and wobbly now ;-D ).

Yes,WDW,that was a Freudian slip,I should have said a chat then a snog..mind you the way I look/feel at the moment,he wouldn't throw bricks at me,let alone kiss me :-(

Anonymous said...

Hey all, another great and informative post, WDW!

Nadine, hope you feel better soon! *sending you healing vibes*

I am not sure how I feel about the Jake!guitar pic. Not my favorite in the "Interview" set, but I love him smiling and thinking of him playing a guitar makes me smile. :D

I am just really happy about the Natalie Portman in "Brothers" news! I hope it does happen. She would be a great choice. And loving that the Jake/Andy S./Adam L. SNL short is getting a lot of love around the 'net! It was fantastic and Jake's cameo was brilliant!

Anonymous said...

Also wanted to say that I don't like the way the paps were all over Jake's car like that. They were so up in his face. :( Thankfully, Jake seemed to remain calm, despite the flashbulbs looking like they were going directly into his eyes.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi everyone - what a long day - shouldn't be allowed :(

Twisted Logic - I put the pics of 'both' sweaters up in the new post as it just makes me chuckle so much and I can do with a chuckle right now.

Hi Beckela - I remember reading a long time ago that Jake was seen at his hotel somewhere carrying a guitar case. - I love this story and I too am taking it to mean Jake's a dab hand on the guitar.

Hey Get Real - it really has been so good to see all the happy vibes about Jake round the net today :D As for those pics, Jake was dignified throughout.
