Thanks to the indefatigable Stephanie at I Heart Jake everyone can now watch Jake Gyllenhaal's perfect comic timing on The Letterman Show just a few short hours ago. It seems Jake found London - memorable! But as many people won't yet have seen the Show and I don't know want to spoil a second of it for anyone, let's discuss it in the Comments for now.
And here is Jake arriving at the David Letterman Show, looking on top form and full of energy despite his busy weekend.

Morning everyone:) Thanks to IHJ I was able to get up very earaly this morning and download the Letterman Show and watch it on the Tube coming in to work. it was a busy train and I didn't half get some looks as I burst out laughing at the Gooberballs!
Also, I didn't realise people in the US said 'shit faced' as well. Jake teaches me new things every day. A drunken woman - a drunken British woman? Oh my... Jake, we're not all like that - not all the time.
So what did we think? No trace of nerves that's for sure. And now I have an image in my head of Jake dressed as a tube of toothpaste.
Jake everywhere! God does like me!
Hi Bmg - it certainly does feel like Jake Heaven right now and there's so much more to come :)
Brilliant!!! So funny!! Thank you so much WDW and Stephanie!!! I can't type for giggling at "Gooberballs"!!! God knows what Jake must think about us British women, what with Katie wotserface and the Hotel women!! Some of us are actually well behaved, sane, and completely normal (not me necessarily, but some of us;D) I loved how he said he'd come over here "for them" meaning us Brits, and "one for th history books" seems to be the catchphrase for this Jake week! Great stuff! Thanks also for the pics WDW :) I love the scruffy jeans and top look, he could pass for a busker on the tube;)
The warm sunny weather Jake left us with has gone nd London is back to its usual wet miserable self, but it's all sunshine and rainbows as far as I'm concerned today, cos I've just booked my ticket for Rendition!! Yep, just under 75 hours until I can watch Mr Sweaty and Shirtless on the big screen!! I can't wait!!!
I've just dowloaded the clip from IHJ...
It seemed a good show to me, Dave was well-informed about the film Jake was here to present this time, and Jake was adorable!!
The Drunk English Woman's hungover must have been aggravated by discovering the next day she had a 'Jake Gooberballs' autograph!!:)
BTW I can't avert my eyes from the unauthorized lady in pink from the last pic...Back away from my man! :)
OT : WDW, this morning I have all your lost emails in my mailbox, how strange is that...
Thanks WDW and Stephanie for the vid of Jake on Letterman. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again. Jake was totally hilarious, I was cracking up here, LOL! Are you sure that wasen't you WDW at Jake's hotel, hmmm, LOL (*wink*)?!
I can't wait even more now for Conan and Ellen. Jake certainly didn't appear to be nervous on Letterman this time. So adorable as well Jake talking about his Dad making his Halloween costumes as a kid.
I think with all these appearances Jake is making on different shows, it is going to be quite apparent how funny and great sense of humor Jake has. Jake just gets more and more endearing it seems!
Wonder what that woman is thinking now, and if she realizes how lucky she was being so close to Mr. Gooberballs!!!
Hey Twisted Logic - this is such a great sunny treat for a horrible wet day! I love that scruffy look too :) I'm so glad you found a cinema near you - they have times up then? I'm going to have to check that out.
Hi Xenia - glad you got the messages in the end! Yep, that woman will have a sore head after all those Martinis and 'Pimm cups'. I'd love Jake to make me a martini anytime.
Jake sure has a firm grip on Lady in Pink. The bodyguard's looking worried ... ;)
Hey Jantoinette - I know, it may sound like me on a few occasions, but no the Drunken Lady wasn't me! And you're not the first person to have asked me this morning :)
What a treat,WDW! I came here to add my two pen'orth to last night's post,(which I couldn't get into properly because we had a visitor - how inconsiderate of my brother-in-law!),not expecting the Letterman interview to be up here already! Well done to Stephanie for getting it sorted so quickly and you for getting up early and posting it here!
Jake is a chat-show host's dream, because he tells funny anecdotes so well while still being able to publicise the relevant film, to make it tantalising/tempting to the as yet uncoverted, without labouring the point.
It's so endearing that Jake is happy to tell stories, often at his own expense, which shine a light on the precious closeness within his family,it's just lovely.
I can't get enough of the pie-chart clip just because, for some unfathomable reason, the way Jake questions "once...twice?" gives me the tingles! ;-) I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with "Sweaty and Shirtless Jake" TL,but at least I know now that at least one of the cinemas 15-20 miles from me is showing "Rendition" on Friday, which means that I can finish work at 2pm,get home, get changed and be at the Matinee performance at 3.10pm. This Blog is gonna be smokin' this weekend, with all the TV appearances AND the film itself to wax lyrical about.
As for the lovely photographs, thanks for those WDW,although the sight of that pretty young lady in pink with the Gyllen-fingers on her midriff did turn me a delicate shade of emerald! Think calm thoughts,Nadine, deep breaths, put down the gun....
Must be off,not to hunt down said Heaven-blessed nymphette, but to see what I missed last night...
Re: the photos. Am I the only one to find it both endearing and sexy that he seems barely able to dress himself?
I had a difficult time getting to sleep last night after watching (and taping, of course) Letterman! I could NOT stop laughing at Gooberballs. The guy can't possibly get any more endearing! And I was pleased -- and surprised -- that Letterman was knowledgeable about the film.
Stephanie, IHJ and WDW -- godsends, all! I love collecting Jake videos and being able to watch with just a click.
Bmg - you're certainly not alone! Especially as someone has to carry his suit for him :)
That blue jumper is going to be worn out at this rate... Love the look (Can I say, I really like the trousers too).
Hi Beckela! Well done for getting any sleep at all. Good to hear that it sounds like Letterman liked Rendition just as JR did.
Hi Mesmirised Nadine - Jake really did prove himself as not only being great in front of the camera but a natural born guest. As you say, a host's dream.
I know - Jake is definitely enjoying that Gyllenhug... :D
I love Jake even more...he was soooo funny. He looked nervous to start, kinda talking fast with a little quiver in his voice. Short but sweet interview. Still waiting for him on the Today show, he hasn't been on yet and I'm late for work...oh well!!!
Nadine, I know what you mean about the "once...twice..." line ;) Although this time I was expecting him to continue with "three times a lady..." I've got a thing about Jake singing atm, and I'm in a silly giggly mood today, for some reason;D
And yes, Pink Top Lady is very lucky indeed and I'm extremely jealous! I must remember to carry a tube of Superglue around with me at all times, so if I ever get that lucky I can squirt some on my top and no amount of bodyguards will be able to prise Jake away from me;)
Thanks WDW for your company at lunch and for showing me Letterman in MP4 format :) What a great interview, I think we saw a lot of the real Jake there. DL was very nice and urbane (and why not).
Ahem, we are NOT all like Gooberballs woman (though I too laughed like a drain at Jake's English-drunk-woman accent which sounded more like a crazed old guy from the deep south of the US :))
hey Chillingwitgyllen - hope you get to see Jake before work - what a start to the day :D
Twisted Logic I'm in a seriously silly mood too, nothing to do with that large glass of wine Anouska just bought me, of course.
Thanks for lunch Anouska - always a pleasure! If we'd have had longer I was up for doing loud impressions of Drunk British Lady. I admire the way you didn't choke on your tortillas at the Gooberballs moment :)
Forgot to mention I loved the snippet of Merchant of Venice (I think) from Rendition. And I love the way Jake looks without all that nonsense on his face.
I just want to throw out one of my obsessions here which is that Jake comes to London for an Old Vic season. Shakespeare would be cool.
(Luckily it was just the one glass or I'd start on my other obsession :) :) "Don't f'ing START" to quote J. Ross :D
And what tortillas, eh, WDW? :)
Oooooooh he looked so tired, bloodshot eyes, soooo cute. I'm exhausted and I can't imagine how he must feel. He plans on going biking with Lance he said after Regis, this guys got more energy then 10 men!!
HI WDW,
I just sent you a Jake on Regis and Kelley blog post. Jake was marvelous, handsome and funny. I hope you get it ASAP.
I'm off to shop:)
xoxoxo
sass
Its like Christmas morning to Wake to Jake - no, it's better than Christmas morning, sure enuff!
(although my transformer connected to my sound system blew as I downloaded the Letterman show - oh well, nothing else affected, and my laptop gave me audio just fine.)
I love the more mature Jake - there is less of that Jake Ache that cannot be satisfied, and more Pure Love and enjoyment. Yay!
You guys are aware that "goober" is a common southern word for peanut, that are called "goober peas", goober apparently derived from an Afro word. This could have been taken as an insult, I suppose, if Jake was not fully confident and ready to laugh. What a fine quality! What a fine man!
Thanks to all who give their time in this splendid haha cause! Hey, Im not kidding!

Thanks Chillinwitgyllen :) So Jake's still cycling with Lance :)
Sass - thanks so much - keep them coming, it's making me feel like I'm watching it with you. This day is so hard to get through (thanks Anouska for being there with me!)
Positively Pia - thanks! This whole week should be an international holiday. Great comment :)
Hey Pia! I had no idea what "goober" meant, I just thought it was some weird little Gyllenword! So the woman maybe wasn't British then? The plot thickens...
And the weather has turned nice again here:D The sun is out, the sky is blue, it's beautiful and so is Jake...I love it when Jake comes out to play!!
"Playmate, come out and play with me. . . "
Love it!
I suspect TL alot of Brits know the term "goober" - or maybe know the term "gooberballs" and dont know the exact derivation. Jimmy Carter grew the damn things.
Hey WDW,I'm back! Lunch and garden centres with Aunty got rained off until Thursday,so where else would I go but here?!
LOL at your "Three times a lady" comment,TL,because as I was typing my appreciation of Jake's delivery of that line in the pie-chart scene, that's exactly what went through my head too :-D
Hey Anouska,Shakespeare and all. The sainted Mod on Jake's Yahoo site just said all the different voices Jake manages in his interviews made her think he'd be great in Shakepeare and asked which part Gyllenhaalics would like to see him play. I had to repeat my "dream come true" scenario of Jake playing Hamlet at Stratford (much easier for me to get to,I don't do London ;-)) once the Royal Shakespeare Theatre has been re-vamped in about 2010. A bit long to wait, but Jake would be the perfect age for the Prince Of Denmark then and it would give me chance to drop a dress size or two before turning up at the Stage Door and asking him to take me away from all this ;-)
The same Moderator said how fab Jake had been on The Today Show (which I'm sure will be linked for us by WDW later,God bless her) and that she had caught him on "Regis and Kelly" too, where she was surprised at how they pushed the subject of his private life, about which Jake remained sensibly tight-lipped.
Like a dog with a bone, these media-types,sometimes. There are things which, due to human curiosity,I'm busting to know about his private life, but I also acknowledge that I have bugger all right to know any such thing! There's also something very alluring and charismatic about the slight air of mystery that Jake manages to preserve about his very private side - adds to the magnetism,if it could get any more potent than it is already!
Nadine, how interrresssssttttinnng!
Jake really gave meaning to that one little line.
They do push him but he's such an enigma, it's bound to happen. Bless him and the one he loves.
I'll join you on the "drop a dress/jeans size before Jake's Stratford debut" diet - sounds more interesting than WeightWatchers ;)
I think Jake surprised Meredith with this comment on the Today show, when she asked him about movies with a message.
Jake: "It's very important for me to be in movies that don't have a message. I think messages are, are...tend to be a little preachy, and I don't think that's what movies are about. It's important to me to be in movies that are...have a human level, have something...have a heart in them, and that's the reason why I did this".
And then he goes on to talk about BBM in the same way.
I love what he said - I've always felt the same.
OK, on to Regis & Kelly...
Positively Pia, a national holiday week indeed!!! I also go cycling so I know how good it feels especially when your under stress. It's cleansing for the mind, the feeling you get when you cycle. This time of year in NY is beautiful to cycle. Crisp air and beautiful foliage. Go Jake Go!!
Just watched "The Today Show" on IHJ and nearly bust a gut laughing at one particular part. It was a lovely interview, funny, informative and Jake was just so munchable as usual with a certain early-morning,sleepy-head aura to him,but the thing I really howled at was the host (Meredith?) bringing up the subject of "BBM" and asking Jake if he had realised what he was sitting on with that movie!! The double entendre was not lost on either of them and both had to put a lid on the giggles, which they did admirably! God, I hope Heath was watching!
So funny and yet another sweet, sweet interview "for the history books"!
Actually, I didn't think I would like Regis and ended up really enjoying it. Yeah, Regis is a "bit" over the top...but I was delighted that they had Interview out there showing off Jake's "haunted eyes..." and Regis got so carried away he referred to Jake, as the hottest bachelor "in the world". It was good fun!
Didn't care for the Today interview much at all. I think who ever the producer was for that segment didn't do their job well.
Does anyone recall whether they showed clips of BBM and joked about it and discussed it when Jake was promoting Zodiac. And then to segue into his friendship with Lance? What's up with that?
Jake has enormous poise and intelligence and he handles himself with such grace. I will never be able to adequately express how much I admire him.
Oops! Sorry for the double post, but Jake did confirm he is going to Rome "in a couple of days!!!" How cool. Italian Gyllenhaalics are so lucky to have him for their film festival!!!!
Nice beard trim, Jake! & if that's his "coming out of jail" look for Brothers, maybe during the film it will disappear!
But man, he looks great! More self possessed all the time and he didnt get esp. worked up over the "sitting on it" gaff by Meredith, let it go by pretty fast, although M. cracked herself up over it.
I suspect he might be kidding about going biking with Lance - Lance and Gyllenhaal on the West Side Highway bike paths, they'd be mobbed, no?
Gosh he's doing a gorgeous job, this time around. And he really is going to Rome! ! ! !
I used to watch "The View" when Meredith was on, and it seemed she was always saying things like that, and then doing an "oops" kind of thing. Bullfeathers! She knew exactly what she was saying.
I get such a kick out of Regis - he's fun. And after the interview, when they came back from the commercial break, both he and Kelly commented on how much fun Jake is.
But we knew that. ;)
In all these interviews I cannot tell if Jake is answering the questions sincerely. He seems to be doing alot of joking around and giving real exaggerated answers, in a very charming way.
Hi again WDW,
I can't believe how self assured Jake is this time time around. He's doing the majority of the TV spots, then after all that activity, he's off to Rome. Clearly he's being positioned as a rising star in his own right. His career trajectory is off the charts, and that is fantastic.
Hi again,
In behavior unbecoming my vision of grown up sass, I just had to Google "gooberballs"; there are now 35 hits listed along with Jake's name:)
Could someone please tell me the hour of The Today Shows Jake segment? I couldn't keep at it this morning and now I'm upset, well not much. TY:)
s
He was on Today at 8:30.
Right, chillinwitgyllen, hard to know when he's kidding - in fact I can imagine him sitting around with a coupla pals making up the entire gooberballs episode! come to think of it, - I betcha!
I just read the most horrific Rendition review in Newsweek October 22 issue. It said that Reese was wasted as an actor in her role and about Jake " 'This is my first torture' he moans, though perhaps he's reflecting on his bad career choice". Also written, 'Rendition manages to take an urgent, important topic and turn it into standard Hollywood melodrama. What a waste.' The article says 'it's unfortunate that Gavin and Kelley are the ones who tell this story.
Unfortunately I've read a few reviews like this...hope it doesn't effect the box office, let's keep our fingers crossed.
Time to do a reprise of recent interviews while I sip my Ballentines and wait for My Mistress to come back home woof woof.
A coworker told me today to "get my head out of Jake's ass" I've been f***in' up too much...but I can't help it!!!
Just a real quick note, hope to be back again. I just had to make a quick post here to tell everyone....
Oh my God, I just finished watching the Ellen show and just before it went to commercial, they showed just for a quick instant Jake on Thursday's show and guess what.....Jake is going to cook for Ellen!!!! It showed him cooking!! I can't wait....
What a week this is turning into...and what would I give to be the girl in the pink jumper...sigh...
Thanks for the pics and links.
second viewing of NYC interviews, so far. initial nervousness (as if I am managing J's career or life or something, come on Pia, get over it!) gone, I even more appreciate his confident performance on Letterman - and Letterman's endoresement of Rendition.
For you guys worried about reviews, Im a NYorker and the NYT and New Yorker count heavily for me - they lauded Zodiac among mixed reviews. And even these critics I will argue down. Dont care if these films do well in theatre. Since the guys I see swarming the malls on a Sat night are not looking for what Im looking for.
Anyway: I liked hearing how Jake "lets it be" - Interview photo shoot asking him to "be sezy" - he assumes the position - with a smile and a shrug - meanwhile maintaining good boundaries in his own life.
I love the way he turns questions back to the questioners - a tactic that is both wise and gracious.
And yes, of course, the comment about biking with Lance is a joke.
I agree, cwg, it takes a bit to distinguish what's a joke and what not.
As for Meredith with her eyes all crazy! - I see that Jake will flirt with red carpet interviewers when they are themselves "cool" but keep his professional mein when folks like Meredith obviously want only to get into his trousers.
:) :)
and cwg, didnt you tell your coworker its jake week and fuck all!
omg my mistress has come home, gotta go woof woof woof
Hi everyone :) So good to see you all - I've just put a new post up and I hope you like it.
Ahh Jantoinette - you saw a clip for Ellen! I heard that it featured Jake cooking a meal for Ellen in 2 and a half minutes. This is so great. I swear I may not survive this week. It's like Zodiac week times 50! And at the weekend I'm off to Rome with a ticket for the gala... Just pinch me someone - ouch!
Pia I stopped what I was doing and posted when I saw your message :)
Chillinwitgyllen - there are some poor reviews from people who don't always see the point to the film. Rendition is a big step and Jake is its lead, there are some great vibes coming out about the film.
Bobbyanna - that's interesting about The Today Show. I've not seen it yet so I can't comment. I have to say that I really don't like the Regis and Kelly Show generally but it was good to see him exalt Jake to extra Hot status.
Zodiac seems forgotten to all and yet I think this film was so incredible and important in Jake's career.
Thanks for that quote Neely - I really like it.
Hi Sass - His career trajectory is off the charts, and that is fantastic. - oh yes.
Can I just shout out again - Jake's off to Rome! You'll recognise me tonight, I'm the one dancing around their laptop even though 'the otherworld' stank today. I had some bad news and Jake got me through it :)
Hey Patient pup! Thanks for that comment as it's really helped me focus things. I'm definitely behind. Fortunately, I only have one day of work left this week and then I can digest (and go to the cinema, quite possibly more than once).
I loved how Jake can say that acting the sexy role isn't really him, that he felt fraudulent, but then, as you say, he can turn it on for the cameras in an instant.
I haven't seen the Today Show yet so I don't know about the Lance comments although I was texted about them today. Apparently Lance could be at some charity function a long way from NYC so who knows what all this was about?
It's all too much - thank the heavens that you're all here with me :)
Finally got a chance to check in -
What a schedule, I can barely keep up - and now he's off to Rome? I thought he was fabulous on Letterman, he looked great and I'm always amazed at how down-to-earth he is, and his wonderful humor. I loved seeing the full "pie-chart" clip with the Merchant of Venice quote. I think he's doing a great job promoting this film. And I did catch what you mentioned, Pia ;)
Of all things, I missed the Today Show, and had heard that he proclaimed that he is a Red Sox fan on National TV - How could I have missed that? Something went wrong with my recorder and I missed most of Regis & Kelly, but saw a little of it. Thankfully, I knew the wonderful IHJ and WDW would have them! I'm really looking forward to his cooking on the Ellen show - Red Sox fan, can cook, is gorgeous - *sigh* Going to catch up right now! :)
