Before, in an interview, Jake seemed to express some ambivalence about the practice of Rendition, arguably saying that the parental state has a duty to protect its citizens who shouldn't presume to be told everything. In this interview, Jake calls rendition an 'outlet of suspicion' - something that was originally intended for extreme circumstances but has degenerated and is very wrong.
Jake also remarks that he is constantly asked about how in this film he was cast opposite Reese Witherspoon, Meryly Streep and Alan Arkin, but his scenes weren't with them. Instead, Jake insists he relished his opportunity to work with North Africans who have known what it is like when 'every day life is threatened or there's that potential and they're alive and loving.' Jake says he had a wonderful experience working with these actors who gave him a 'perspective on the world and on life, which I encourage every young person, or young American, to have.'

Farragut North indefinitely postponed?
I'm sure you remember Farragut North. The latest speculation, and it is only that, surrounding this Broadway project is that Mike Nichols will now not be directing the play and the whole production has been put on hold. Is that because Jake is too busy? He would have finished Brothers before the Autumn opening of the play next year, or is there something else lined up for Jake next year? All very intriguing and, if the play doesn't come to pass, not a little disappointing. However, if it suggests that Jake has more than one project lined up, whether it's a new Fincher movie or not, then all is good.

Thanks Get Real - It's a shame but maybe some people don't realise just how complex Jake is. This isn't helped by Jake being quoted out of context. This interview gives a more rounded view of Jake's feelings about Rendition and about North Africa - and shows that it's not clear cut for Jake just as it isn't for us.
I see we have some very good Jake coming down the pike in talk shows! The Fox interview is a nice antidote to wondering if JG really meant we should all stoke up our opium pipes. Not at all. I get teary, sometimes, over this man.
Im not especially disappointed over Farragut North being put on the shelf for the present, if that is, indeed, true. Didnt sound like a script that would translate well to stage. And we are at such a political crossroads right now in the USA - god knows what's coming down the line.
The timing of Rendition, on the other hand, seems to be right on the button.
Loved seeing the two women broadcasters getting giddy over Jake.

I's like to see Jake on the stage for sure, but more than that I want to see him in film upon film. Also if he's on the stage in something more topical and interesting than Farragut North - or more traditional - thinking Marlowe and Shakespeare.
Rendition is perfect timing and those two presenters clearly want to see Jake without the beard :D

Much respect due to Jake for putting his head above the parapet and expounding his views on a complex and controversial subject which needs to be debated and has no easy answers. He knows full well that malicious editing or quoting out of context could get him into hot water,but he has the courage to get out there and say what he believes in his heart,obviously having given it a lot of thought.
Love how much he observed and learned from the North African actors, facing pressures in their daily lives that few of us,thank God, will ever have to endure. His intelligence is obvious though never ostentatious and God,intelligence is sexy! Couple that with a great sense of humour, stunning physical beauty,and a patently good heart,it's no wonder we're all under his spell!

I really do admire Jake for daring to express an opinion - not an easy thing to do when you know you're going to be quoted everywhere and anywhere, however correctly or not. And yes! ntelligence is sexy!

Thanks for this interview WDW! I love what he says about working with the Moroccan actors on this film and how he learnt from the experience. I imagine a lot of HW stars in that situation would act like Mr Big Shot Movie Star but Jake seems to be the complete opposite :) I can't wait to see Rendition! And I agree with those women - the beard must go!!

I really hope it's gone though, or at least trimmed a bit - TIFF levels of beardness I can just about cope with! But Jake, if you really want to brighten up our lives, have a shave!! Please!
Hey Twisted Logic! - Jake's reached this level of beardness before and it went. I like beards but I think I'm ready for this one to go now. But yes, trimmed a bit would be good - Jake looked so gorgeous at Toronto. A bit of scruff is good. Roll on Friday and all will be revealed - I bet you a pint it's gone... :D (that'll mean that it's here for good!)

The beard is becoming (in)famous in its own right! Well, if there's something worse than Jake with a beard (and, believe me, there's a lot worse than Jake with a beard!) then it's a moustache - Noooo! Four nights to go, that's all. Also feels like a big case of 'so near, so far' :\
It feels like waiting for Xmas doesn't it? Except that it's going to last a week:) And yeah, it should have been us there but I'm going to put tht out of my mind and just enjoy the whole Jake Week experience. It seems to always be a case of "famine or feast" with Jake so let's just make the most of it :) And next time hopefully we'll get some good karma in return for our disappointment this time :)

Loved watching Jake challenge the process, and I tensed up during the little bit of the interrogation scene, but no big giveaways! Thanks for that. He's obviously trying to be very balanced in what he says. No doubt there's some concern over this coming across as an ultra-liberal movie that could end up turning a lot of people off. But it's also obvious that he's put some thought into what he's saying, which is refreshing for an actor.
I tried not to get too distracted by the othe rclips on the Fox page, particularly "Including Pets in Your Will" and "Prostitute Snorts Coke off Baby".

My first reaction to Jake's former comment about renditions was of mild confusion I confess but, you know what? The more I think about Jake's words the more I'm convinced that the subjects is not so plain as it seems.
What he calls thinking in terms of 'it works or it doesn't' instead of being indignated that something like that could happen, that is the key IMO because if you could think that torture 'works' then you'll think you're authorized to practice it.
But saying clearly 'It doesn't work' it's the only practical, efficient way to take away any sense from it.
And this is a point of view that I had not considered before. :)
