Rendition and BAFTA Jake: 'It's nice to be screamed at'

We've heard the words and now we can see some of the pictures. A number of quite stunning photographs from Fridays's Rendition press conference at the Beverly Wilshire reveal the many expressions of Jake Gyllenhaal, reflecting the humour, thoughtfulness, modesty and character of many of his answers.

Talking of quotes from the press conference: 'I think that as a culture, I think that the hope and, watching this character, that there can be people who can make these decisions. I think it [hope] takes you out of the present and what is actually going on and, actually, I think there is a lot more muck than we think there is. I think hope is the wrong message right now. I think really working at it is the right message.'

February 11 2007 - BAFTA night

February 11 will always be an amazing memory for me and I will never tire of reminders of a wonderful night (and day). Huge thanks to Twisted Logic for finding this Sky interview with Jake on the BAFTA red carpet and saving it for us. I get the impression, wrongly or rightly, that Jake found this night, and the adoration he received, a little overwhelming but it served as good training for Cannes and Toronto. It also provides us with more Rendition Jake - filming was ongoing at this time and, despite his initial coyness (he was doing 'a little bit of this, a little bit of that'), Jake does own up to being occupied with filming a movie called Rendition in Morocco. I felt particularly relieved personally to hear Jake say 'It's nice to be screamed at'. Phew!

Includes pictures from IHJ.

These pictures, omg, I have the sudden urge to iconize them. Jake, scrumptious as usual, melts my heart yet again.

My favorites are the 4th (eager, expectant Jake) and 5th (most definitely; he looks like he's inviting you to bed or something! That steamy look is something I wouldn't mind seeing on his face more often). And ohmigod, the eyes on that man!

I wish I could be that charming while obviously jetlagged. Sky's red carpet reporters are generally like something straight out of special school, so 'props' (as I think they're called) for dealing with the questioning so professionally, Mr G.

Hi Fourplay - I think these photographs are extraordinary - and interesting!

Hey bmg - that's funny! I think it's true Jake could be jetlagged. If so, he did a really good job here :)

I love this series of pics too, WDW - I love the first one, funny Jake, lookin' a little bit like my man Mahmoud there without a tie ;) and of course, steamy Jake as well. But I really like this funny and thoughtful side we're seeing lately. :)

Hi Marina - I agree, it's a great combination. Jake does serious and funny so well, sign of being a good comic. I love the final picture of Jake laughing so hard :D

I'm loving all these pictures, but gotta say. The picture of Jake and Reese standing on that stage is really special to me. I remember when it happened. My eyes were glued to that stage....from a million miles away in the balcony, LOL!!!! Nevertheless. I was watching them with to "see" if there were any "signs" and the two of them were adorable. She went up there and initially, for about two seconds, stood closer than she meant and very quickly put a discreet distance between them. He's trying to look everywhere but directly at her. She is just beaming, looking up at him and both of them are sort of putting their hands in their pockets...deliberately. It was an "Awww shucks!" moment. LOL Very cute.

Hi Bobbyanna - that picture is very special to me too, probably something to do with being in the same room (however big) when it was taken :) It was a sweet moment and Jake looked so handsome and, I'm trying to think of a suitable word, something like humble or self-effacing. Reese did look beautiful - and so tiny! I think Jake seemed very protective of her and gave her some reassuring looks. I always get the impression that Jake looks after the people and friends around him.

Awwww, that interview was cute, thanks for digging it up,TL,a bewitchingly distracted Mr.G.,bless him.

As for the Press Conference photos,WDW,talk about a vision in blue(my favourite colour, particularly Jake's-eye blue)! Running the gamut of emotions from mischief,to musing,to merriment. What can one say, except "Bloody hellfire!"? Oh and of course "Phwoaaarrrr!!!"

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Nadine - bewitchingly distracted puts it very well. Jake always looks particlarly breathtaking in blue :)

Gorgeous pics, thanks WDW! 3 and 5 and my favourites for now. I love the hand action! And the eyes of course, that goes without saying. No other man in the world could have that much of a beard and still make me swoon! Don't get me wrong, I still wish he'd shave but even if he doesn't he still looks so damn fine!! *swoon* Just over two weeks til I can listen to the words to go with the pics:)

I'm not sure if Jake was jet lagged in that vid, it can't be more than 4 hours tops from Morocco to London. And he seemed a lot more "with it" when Ruby Wax was asking him about the jellyfish thing -for the second year running! I swear I thought I was having deja vu when I saw that! Anyway, he's so cute and funny in that interview "little bit of this, little bit of that":D Love it!

Hey Twisted Logic - I think 3 and 7 are my favourites. I love the hands too and I love that big smile. Can you believe it's only 2 weeks to Rendition here! I've booked the day off so I can give it my full attention - of course I came down with chicken pox on the opening day of Zodiac and couldn't see it at the pictures for 2 weeks! - not something I wish to repeat for this film!

You're right - I forgot that Jake had only flown in from Morocco - not much of a time gap there. I do think he was affected by his welcome. Ruby's interview was after he'd been on the red carpet a while (I watched it being done :D) - maybe by then he was a little bit more relaxed. I'm just so proud that London gave Jake such a welcome. And thanks to you for finding this clip - I have all the Bafta clips/photos etc saved in a special place as they mean so much. I still find it very difficult to look at Toronto clips but now I'm ready to enjoy the Baftas and Cannes all over again.

(((WDW))) Poor you, having chicken pox, never mind on Zodiac Day :( I certainly hope you have a better time of it with Rendition and I hope I do too cos I never got to see Zodiac in the cinema at all:( The same thing better not happen this time cos I am so desperate to see this film I could scream!!! In fact I'm terrified I'm going to do just that when Jake appears on screen and I'll get thrown out!

You're probably right about Jake's demeanour in the vid being down to him being so overwhelmed at the reception he got. You did us Brits proud! Btw, it was my pleasure to get the clip for you, I'm glad you enjoyed it:) If anyone deserves thanks it's the bright spark at Channel 4 who decided to show TDAT at the same time Jake was on the BBC at the Baftas. So I was taping the Baftas while watching TDAT when I flicked over to Sky News during an ad break and just caught the end of Jake's interview. Luckily they were replaying it on a loop on the interactive thingy so after the Baftas I put the tape in and let it run all night, hence why it says 3 am on the clock in the corner! But if TDAT hadn't been on I would've just watched and taped the Baftas at the same time and not even known about the Sky thing. The powers of Jake-ism work in mysterious ways sometimes ;)

Hey twisted Logic - I would say you're DUE a date with Jake at the cinema! Hopefully, all will be well and we'll both be able to enjoy Rendition (and repeatedly too). Chicken pox is no joke for an adult, it's also no joke for an adult when a Jake film is out (more to the point)! I find it hard to believe now that I was able to sit in the cinema in Toronto knowing Jake was in the same room - that shows hat a good film this was as it had my attention throughout.

I loved the Bafta clip - and I always enjoy the way these things work out forthe best :D

Hey twisted Logic - I would say you're DUE a date with Jake at the cinema!

It doesn't have to be the cinema! We can go for dinner or for a walk in the park, or just down the pub:D Yeah right, in my dreams...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

All of those sound good to me - but with me!

Hi WDW,

I'm so sorry to hear you had chicken pox - you're right, it can be more serious in an adult. Hope you're doing better.

I was just looking at these pictures again, and some more of them on IHJ - they are truly magnificent, and he's got such wonderful inner qualities besides those considerable good looks. Smarts, warmth, humor, incredibly charming, & class. I can't make up my mind which one is my favorite, they are all beautiful! Feel better.

I'm so looking forward to Rendition week, so far he's scheduled for 3 shows? Could I be so bold as to ask that we post a schedule? Please? Don't want to miss a minute. Thanks!:)

I darn near died when I saw these pictures! Are they as beautiful as it seems to me or is something seriously wrong with me. Decided while out shopping in my favorite food adventure park, Whole Foods, (where Jake shops: just sayin') that anyone who thinks Im nuts can just "chut up" - in his honor I bought a bottle of Australian Shiraz called "Woodchopper" In other words, Ive decided to take this relationship seriously. Im not sure yet what that means. . .

Anonymous said...

p.s in my exicitement I e-mailed some of the latest beautiful Jake pictures to my friend Rob - and one by mistake to a friend and colleague in Florida - I apologized - she said I must tell her about the new man in my life who is so handsome. :) :)

Wow, these pictures are stunning! You can just see how expressive he is. He is truly beautiful....sigh.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Marina - thanks :), I'm fully recovered now but it was nasty. I'm so glad there are more of these pictures - they're breathtaking.

I'm putting a schedule up this evening and anyone who finds out anything new, I'd be very grateful if they could post it/email me :D It's going to be great!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Positively Pia - I'm a Whole Foods girl myself - and now we have a huge one in London. I do like the BH store. Let me know how the Woodchopper tastes - Shiraz always reminds me of Jake for some reason. I agree that this man in your life is someone very special :)

Hi Get Real - they are so beautiful, Jake's expressiveness makes them even more so :D

I see now Jake is to be on Ellen - more good news :) I wonder if he'll sing for her...

Beautiful, sensitive, smart Jake...I fall for him each and everytime, and each time it's stronger...

Thank you for all the updates WDW, and for the Bafta video...yes London greeted Jake as he deserved, Let's see what it will happen in Rome...
It might sound stupid but I feel like I'm somehow responsible for Italian audience regarding Rendition AND Jake! :)

Anonymous said...

LOL at PIA's new man :D

Wow, isn't it great that Jake liked us all screaming at him? This is what I screamed:

JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!
(lots of times)

JAKE!JAKE!JAKE!JAKE!JAKE!
(football chant-stylee)

WE LOVE YOU JAKE!
(note rare unselfish gesture, there).

Luvverly pics and post, WDW *

Xenia, do keep us updated on what's happening in Rome! I'm thatclose to going ...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Xenia - I'm sure Italy and the Italians will do Jake proud :) And it doesn't sound stupid at all - when Jake's in London I always hope he'll have a good reception and if he didn't I'd feel terrible. Has there been any more information in Italy about the festival?

Hey Jake's bud Anouska - I can vouchsafe for what you say, as can my impaired hearing. I seem to recall that I yelled:

JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!
(lots of times)

and

OVERRRR HEEEERRRRRREEEEE JAAAAAAKE! (slightly less times)

and I shot of the odd

WE LOOOOOOVVVVVEE YOOOOU JAAAAKE!

And then Jake was in front of us and I lost all power of speech and thought while thrusting my magazine into his hands.

So great that Jake liked our screaming :)

Anonymous said...

Jake on Ellen too?! Brilliant! I've got a feeling we get that on one of the channels over here, so I'll look out for that:)

Anouska and WDW - did you actually go inside for the Baftas too? I was wondering if it was one of you who shouted out "Love you Jake!!" when he walked on stage? Whoever it was, she spoke for the nation ;)

Anonymous said...

No, twisted (may I call you twisted?) ;)

You sort of have to choose between outside and inside. Outside took us ten hours (my bud OWES me) and I don't think we even researched whether inside was available.

We were younger and greener, then. ;)

Xenia said...

No further informations WDW...sorry :/
But I'll keep you informed...:)

Cherita said...

I have to add my thanks to you and TL for recording and making available that red carpet bit from SKY. How completely adorable he was! And PIA, no, it's not you. The press conference photos are breathtaking. I especially found it amusing that three of them look like desktop wallpaper from the get-go, no alteration needed! The blue backdrop was particularly complementary.

And more likely than not, we'll have new photos soon from tonight's New York event! I love promotions!

Anonymous said...

Thanks Anouska:) Btw,of course you can call me Twisted, you wouldn't be the first!;)
Sounds like you made the right choice by waiting outside, it must have been well worth the wait (and in February too!) to see Jake :) I wonder who that woman was that shouted out to him? She must have one of us!

Cherita, what NY event? Either I've missed something or my poor brain can't cope with any more Jake information and I've forgotten something!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

It's all too much - wishing away the last hour of work for the week...

Tonight is the New Line event in New York which isn't screening Rendition as far as I know (I blieve they're showing Nicole Kidman's new film?) but it's been speculated that Jake and Reese will attend - we shall see :)

So much going on, my poor heart can hardly take it....

Thanks for the comments, keep em coming!

Anonymous said...

Ah, thank you WDW! That piece of information managed to pass me by somehow. Let's hope for pics then - preferably of the beardless variety;)

The New York Film Festival is going on right now. They tend to screen more independent, less commercial films. Not a huge festival but an important one. So the New Line party is scheduled at a good time.I will be very surprised if Reese and Jake attend, tho. I'm not expecting it. I know it's a very important industry event, but it just seems inconsistent with both of them. They both do awards shows, if nominated or presenting, and that's about it. Unless they have a movie opening. I want to be surprised! I'd love it if they went. Who knows? Maybe they will. NYFF screened I'm Not There. Pictures of Cate B.,Richard Gere and Michelle Williams with Harvey Weinstein (not dating, just collegial.) But no Heath. Too bad. He was quite good in it. Christian Bale wasn't there either, so maybe they are traveling abroad for the nextTDK location shoot?
FYI: This has nothing to do with Jake. It's a footnote. But it is such a provocative piece of news I wanted to share it, bcz ultimately, these sorts of things do affect Jake and others in that "orbit." In Touch magazine was going to do a major cover story about Angelina Jolie with the headline:Is Angie Pregnant???" Just as they were going to press, some very recent pictures of Angelina appeared, pap pictures showing Angelina with taut abs and a completely, totally flat stomach. To preserve their "story" In Touch quickly bought up all the flat stomach pictures to suppress them, so they could promote their lies.

Bobbyanna, the speculation came from this piece in Variety back in May. At the time (and nothing new has been said to contradict it) they said

On this October night, New Line will show some of their 40 years of films in Jazz at Lincoln Center's Theater, plus 20 minutes of their Christmas release, "The Golden Compass," starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. (These big stars will be on hand plus Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Meryl Streep, Alan Arkin, Javier Bardem, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Benjamin Bratt.)

So, yes, fingers crossed!

I know WDW, me either, but I love it!

Thanks everyone for all of the info, and providing a schedule for us. I love when Jake is on Ellen, I adore her. I hope Jake and Reese will be at the NYFF too, Bobbyanna.

Finally had tine to listen to the interview. Great! Admittedly, Jake's rather "intuitive" approach in this interview, esp, out of context, made me nervous, WDW. I thot of Maggie's telling him that irony doesnt tranlate well upon the page. Then I saw those pictures - and all was well - he's a mensch and getting menschier ever minute. His style IS intuitive, and sometimes needs to be interpreted haha.

My gut is still doing flip flips when I see these recent pictures. Im doing a recommital ritual tonight with candles, pictures and Woodcutter Shiraz.

I know what you all mean about all the anticipation of lots of Jakeyness being bad for the heart-so exciting!

I've already given my husband due notice, despite the fact that it's our anniversary today(and it's been lovely) that he probably won't be able to do a thing with me next Friday night because his one and only love rival is a guest star on JR! He just rolled his eyes resignedly ;-) He has been warned!

Hope to catch this evening's post if I can get back here after tonight's JR. Have a great evening everyone! xxx

Twisted Logic - it was so cold on Bafta day - I remember the sleet - and I caught flu and was off work for 2 weeks - the beginnings of what has been called my Jake allergy! (chicken pox following Cannes). But so worth it! And good for that girl yelling out our love.

Hi Bobbyanna - I'll be surprised too if Jake and Reese attend tonight, but no harm in hoping. Shame Heath wasn't at the NY festival but I heard that filming for Batman was going on in London at the moment - I'm not sure if it still is.

Cherita - thanks for the extra info :) I've put a link to that on the site today, just in case Jake turns up.

Hey Marina - I love it when Jake's on Ellen - this time will be even better I think. I wond'er if he'll outdo the Innuit song and the shirt stripping!

Have a great evening Positively Pia - I wish I could join you (mine's not going well) :\ I think the fact that Jake sometimes demands to be interpreted is all part of the fascination. Definitely worth the effort.

Nadine - have a wonderful anniversary! I believe Ewan's on JR tonight - sounds good to me, albeit nowhere near what it'll be like next week!
