The Wonders of Rome
Here's one...
...and here's another.
I know which I prefer - the one that looks good in a suit.
I'm back! Good to see you all. Not only could I get no internet access but then British Airways and the Italian airtraffic controllers decided to gang up on me and go on strike. I hope Jake wasn't one of the many left stranded in Rome today - although I imagine they'd put him up somewhere special. But better late than never, hopefully, here's my account of yesterday - a special day when yet again my dream came true and I saw Jake Gyllenhaal. Any mistakes, please blame Xenia because I wrote it while drinking the bottle of absolutely gorgeous wine she gave me. This also explains the fact that I refer to 'tonight'. I wanted to retain that.
Incidentally, you might remember that when I was in Toronto I mentioned the Jake Quake effect - well, it happened again in Rome. Whenever I see Jake and I'm holding a camera there are seismic tremors for which I accept no responsibility. It is either the fault of tectonic plates or Jake's hotness, neither of which I can control.
Tonight marked the finale of Jake Week, and the week couldn't have ended any better as it ended in the company of Jake – well, OK, there were also several hundred other people who shared that company with me, but you won't find me complaining. Rome is such a beautiful city – it's been 21 years since I spent some time here and I can't believe I'd forgotten how gorgeous it is. Around every corner there's something spectacular, whether a Roman ruin, a medieval tenement, a neoclassical palace, a fountain or a park. Surely there's no more beautiful or romantic city than Rome in which to have a Jake encounter? I now have special memories of beautiful cities around the world – London, Cannes, Toronto and now Rome – and three of them I would never have visited without the incentive of Jake.
The Roman red carpet was a gorgeous one (although the grandiose red steps of Cannes will always be a winner). One side was lined with trees and flowers; the crowd lined the other side. It ended in a circular area in which the stars could pose for press and TV. It was also by far the dirtiest red carpet I've ever seen – not helped by the number of dogs I saw being walked up and down it. This was also the first carpet I'd been to within sight of bars (clearly a bonus) and so one could watch the crowd gather while enjoying a Peroni and/or a particularly fine glass of red Sicilian.
The crowd grew fast and Jake's was the name I heard most. Reese had her fans there too, of course, but it was good to see so many people in Rome out especially for our Jake. More so than in Cannes. There were some who couldn't pronounce the name but they still uttered it and it was music to the ears. I enjoyed chatting (as far as I'm able with two words of Italian) with two young girls next to me who'd travelled in to see Jake because of Brokeback. A photographer on the carpet teased another girl by saying he was so much better looking than Jake now that Jake had his beard. I think not.
It was so cold and Jake was so late. The film was due to start at 7.30pm and there was no sign of Jake at 7.15pm. We heard a security guard say that Jake was in the next car - that didn't calm the nerves much. In the meantime we'd had a very scary looking Gerard Depardieu, a famous Italian footballer (don't ask me whom but he had black hair tied back in a very short ponytail), Rome's mayor and several politicians, and women in various states of dress/undress despite the not much above freezing temperatures. They soon gave in to coats, leaving the men to chill instead.
After four hours of waiting and shivering, I knew Jake must be close because I'd stopped shaking with the cold; hypothermia had set in.
Finally, at 7.20pm, Jake arrived in a convoy that also included Reese Witherspoon, Gavin Hood and Gorgeous Kelley Sane. Jake was in grey, reminding me so much of the Jarhead premiere but without the orange tie, and he just looked tall, standing head and shoulders above everyone else, but that may be my sense of proportion being upset by Jake again. There were dignitaries to greet and then Jake was whisked off to be interviewed by E!, which took place right in front of us. The girl interviewer received a kiss on both cheeks from Jake – I don't think she deserved them because I could see her prepping for her interview with Reese by reading Reese's interview in Elle, which the interviewer had marked with pink post-it notes – not impressed. Jake was then almost physically moved along by the familiar unsmiley BG (bodyguard, but I need a nickname for him) and Jake was off – they had arrived too late.
Reese looked stunning in her purple dress but she soon gave in to a coat, which she took off right at the end of the red carpet. It was way too cold to be wearing anything other than Jake's SNL polar bear coat. But Jake was so beautiful that I couldn't stop looking at him – I heard some people call Reese's name and I realised she was standing right in front of me and I'd never noticed her. This isn't her fault – all Jake's!
I was thrilled to see my favourite, Gorgeous Kelley Sane, the screenplay writer, was there. I'm impressed with myself that I managed to tear my concentration away from Jake (who was right in front of me) to call out to Kelley. He seemed surprised to hear someone call his name and he looked at me. I told him how great the film was and that I'd seen it in Toronto, and he looked pretty pleased. A guy behind me patted my shoulder and said 'well done' – I suppose, for remembering that there is more to a film as good as this one than its stars.
When Jake moved further down the line, we tried to follow him but the crowd was big and not a little excited. So our next tactic was, as we had tickets, to go inside the theatre and watch from the foyer. There were two screens showing live action from the carpet; one showing Jake, the other showing Reese. But soon we could see Jake himself. He was laughing and smiling and just radiating! But then he was quickly marched into the theatre a few feet from me but it was madness at that point. Once Reese was in, we were let through and managed to get our seats in time to see Jake and the others take their seats. The spotlight was on them and they were announced in turn. The announcer messed up Reese's surname completely. Jake's was no problem unusually and he got a huge ovation. The film started and for much of its beginning I couldn't focus as I could see Jake.
But they disappeared long before the end and I was so disappointed that, at the end, they were nowhere to be seen. In Toronto, they returned to accept graciously the standing ovation. This time, they didn't bother. I don't blame Jake for this but I would like to blame someone. We were applauding, ready to get to our feet, until we saw that those we wished to congratulate on a truly great film experience had left us to it. Not good, New Line Cinema.
One thing though, I wish I'd had a flu jab before this event - I've never been in a cinema with so many sick people! Coughing, sneezing, hacking, spluttering - no wonder the talent did a runner...
My overall impression of tonight's event was that the stars were late and they didn't hang around a moment longer than necessary. Their reception was fabulous and I was so proud to see how well regarded Jake is in continental Europe. I was also proud to be part of another audience seeing Rendition with Jake, however briefly. But, I suppose this event went along with these so-called premieres (like the LA event last week), when the intention seems to be to entice the media and disregard the audience. Fortunately, Toronto and Cannes were nothing like that. Nevertheless, I can only be delighted that I saw Jake again tonight – looking lovely! - and he's made me fall in love again with this most beautiful of cities. And, it meant that I could meet and spend time with Xenia. Perfecto!
In the 'proper' pics of last night, do you think it looks cold? I'm still warming up. I have a lot to catch up on and so that's why I have two days off work. Thanks to everyone for your emails and comments, to Twisted Logic and Anouska for keeping me sane and thanks to Jake.
Good pictures from IHJ and the others from WDW.

WDW! You're BACK...we missed you too:)
Now off to read and reread your post...happy happy to be still Jaking with you!
HiSass - so good to see you! I feel like I've been away for ever :D Please excuse my crappy pictures. It was so cold I could hardly hold the camera (that's my excuse...)
(((WDW)))) Welcome home!! Thanks so much for posting this tonight when you must be so knackered. And don't worry about the pics, they're great. There's plenty of high quality pics out there (thanks to IHJ!) but these are special cos they're YOURS:) Sounds like you had a crazy but wonderful time :) It's great to know that Jake got such a good reception. And well done for congratulating The Gorgeous Kelley Sane (to give him his full title!). I'm sure it must have meant a lot to him to know that, as you say, people recognise that there's more people involved in a film than the stars, and as someone who LOVED Rendition, I'm really glad and grateful to you for letting him know how highly you and others think of it:)
And now you mention it, Jake's nose does look quite red in that last pic so I can get some idea of how cold it was! If the hottest man man alive was cold, it must have been freezing! So well done you for braving the elements like that!
Thanks again WDW- it's great to have you back!
*Sigh* what a beautiful post, and welcome back, WDW. We missed you! Yes, Jake is right up there with all of the world's wonders, that's for sure! ;) Lucky you for getting to see him in London, Paris, Rome, Toronto . . . :)
Hey Twisted Logic!! What a night - I've been reading some of the press out there and I feel waves of Jakeness rushing over me so much to catch up on. Thank heavens no work for me tomorrow.
Yep, Gorgeous Kelley Sane can do no wrong in my eyes. Not only is he handsome and charming and modest, he's also responsible for a script that transports me body and soul to an undefined North African country every time I see Rendition. I'm so proud I've been able to tell him this twice, in Toronto and now Rome.
I agree Jake's nose does look a little red. I'm completely beetrooty as the blood is still trying to warm up my extremities. I had to sleep in a whole load of clothes last night with the hotel room heating on full blast. But it was so sunny and Rome looked beautiful. I wonder if Jake got to see any of it as it takes the breathe away. I'm definitely going to go back again soon.
Hi Marina - I missed you too! Jake is a wonder of the world and sometimes it's hard judging where he's ging to pop up next! It's good to be back though.
Hi WDW, reading about your wonderful journeys took me back to Toronto. Sounds like the only difference was the weather. I love Jake in grey, looking very mature. In Toronto I was disappointed to hear they left and came back at the end, I think I would have been more upset that they never returned in Rome, I share your emotions on that one.
Glad your back safely, we missed you but our UK friends kept us all well informed. Hey, you were a little shakey but at least you got to take the pics. Me on the other hand, I froze solid when I saw Jake and forgot about the two cell phone camera's and the autograph stuff...I left with nothing...so I'd say you did a much better job.
Awwww! So glad you got to see him WDW!!! By the time you got inside, you must have felt like a little grape popsicle! LOL!!! (wine, grapes, ...) I'm also glad you spoke out to Kelly! At these events especially, but also generally, I think screenwriters are an often overlooked species.
Reese's dressed looked gorgeous in pics. It looked kind ofburgundy reddish. You say more purpley? And Jake's tie looked "quieter" than his Venice Orange. I am delighted the film was so well received by Italian audiences and that Jake is so well loved over there. I think the film will get a good reception in Europe generally. Very gald you are back. Get lots of rest and drink a hot toddy.
Hi CWG Good to hear from you! I'm not going to pretend otherwise, I was upset when the lights came on at the end, everyone was applauding, we looked down and the whole lot of them were one and not come back. I really, really think they should have come back at the end. And they were so late arriving too. I could understand them leaving in Toronto during the film because they came back. They should have done the same in Rome. As I said, I don't blame Jake. Maybe they had some official function to go too - the Rome festival seems quite political in some ways. But I wanted Jake to be around at the end to hear the reaction of the audience - they loved it!
I know I was so shakey! This time the Jake Effect was doubled by the fact my hands were shaking so much with the cold. It's ironic because otherwise I think I would have controlled by Jake Shake Syndrome!
Hi Bobyanna *) Glad to be back! Reese looked more purply to me at the time. But it was dark and the lights were bright. She looked very good. But I can't believe she was right in front of me and I didn't even notice until someone called her name! I was so distracted by Jake. I agree, speaking as a writer especially, that screenwriters should get some attention. Nobody knew who on earth he was on the red carpet so I'm glad I called out (although I did feel a little silly ;) ) Makes a change from calling out 'Jaaaakkkkeeee'
Yay, WDW! Welcome back from your latest adventure. I hope you've warmed up sufficiently by now. Thank you for sharing with us the experience of a Rome premiere! I love your descriptions of the action and the scenery. I'll sadly never be able to afford such trips, so it's nice to hear about it from someone who appreciates it. And of course, thank you and Xenia for bringing Jake some love on the red carpet. :) The photos of him prove he was still beautiful as ever, despite the chill, and I thought Reese was gorgeous, too. I'm so glad they were well-received, and I hope the box office returns in Europe will be better than here at home.
Hi Cherita! I know I'm so lucky - it's so easy from England to nip over to Rome. It's only a 2 hour flight. I love the place but haven't been for years. If it hadn't have been for Jake I wouldn't have gone for many more and that would have been a shame. It was so wonderful walking round the forum today.
You can be sure Jake got lots of love on the red carpet. I bought the Rome papers today and they all go on about Reese but Jake was the one who got the loudest calls. Reese looked stunning. She needed to put that jacket on though.
I hope the box office is good in Europe too. It's hard to say. I've only ever seen this film with very receptive audiences. I've put a couple of reviews up around the place as I desperately want non-fans to give the fim a chance and not be put off. All of us must continue to keep the word out there.
Hi WDW - it's good to have you back! Don't feel bad about the fuzzy pics. If I had been standing that close to Jake, I'd be wobbly, too. No, on second thought, I'd be passed out on the floor.
Mr. unsmiley BG sounds like a no nonsense kind of guy. I feel better knowing that the man in charge of Jake's safety is as protective as a mama grizzly bear.
I hope Jake got back home. I wonder if he will be attending any of the World Series games. The Red Sox are playing, starting on Wednesday.
As for BG, the one thing I notice about him most consistently in photos, is that he is always watching the crowd. He seems to miss nothing. I like that. Don't want to "jinx" anything, but the Golden Globes, the Independent Spirit Awards and of course the Oscars and BAFTAs will be occurring regular time same place in just a few short months. I sincerely hope we have reason to "send a delegation."
Hi Sass - so good to see you! I feel like I've been away for ever :D Please excuse my crappy pictures. It was so cold I could hardly hold the camera (that's my excuse...)
Are you kidding?...your pictures work. TYTYTY...I've been know to take family pics with my finger over the lens *snort*
You did good, real good! I'm going for my third Rendition viewing this weekend.
back soon
s
Sounds like a great weekend. Beautiful Rome, the wine, bonding with Xenia, and lets not forget seeing Jake in the flesh. The shaky pictures are to be expected. Glad you had a safe trip home.
Welcome back WDW! Thank you for your wonderful report. It's no wonder you were shaking, nevermind the cold, just from seeing Jake! It must have been so lovely to see him in the flesh after the last few days of Jakeyness.
It's a shame it was so cold and that they didn't come back to hear the crowd cheering. But as it was all of them, maybe they did have something else they had to attend. Although it's sad that they didn't hear the good reception the movie had.
And good for you too, letting Kelley Sane know his work was appreciated. That must have been so nice for him. No wonder he looked right at you!
I'm glad you're warmed up now, let's face it, remembering a real life Jake sighting is enough to make anyone hot!
And your pics are great. YOUR own pics. What a wonderful thing! And yes, serious BG needs a name!
WDW, so glad to hear you got home safe and sound and that you've thawed out, LOL!
Thanks for sharing your Jake experience once again, but I don't blame you for being disappointed that the cast and film makers didn't make an appearance again after the showing. Your private pics are great and such a treasured keepsake.
Hopefully you'll find the most recent Jake article that's out there, when he refers back to his interview years ago with Susan Sarandon in the womens washroom. He makes some funny observations and comments how men and womens washrooms are different, LOL (hint, Jake say's were louder, and I'll leave it at that, LOL!).
Great to hear that Jake got such a great response in Rome. Poor Jake almost melted in Toronto, and froze in Rome....
Hi WDW! I'm Sonia from Italy (Sonjeka on IHJ)! I was there too, what a pity we didn't arrange to meet, I would have loved to!
Wow girl, how many times have you already met him! I wish I could follow him that much aswell!
This was my first and I'm pretty sure only time but I'm glad I had this chance and feel blessed for this :)
I was disappointed too by them leaving only after few minutes the movie had begun, but I was still so excited for having had him just half a meter away from me, that I thought I couldn't ask for more :)
I'll have to re-watch it though, I could not concentrate much :P
Thanks for your report :)
Hi WDW, have you recovered from your Jake overolad and red Italian Montepulciano d'Abruzzo hangover? ;)
BTW glad you enjoyed the wine, my dear!!:D
Even if I'm more than a bit disappointed by the Festival under-organization, and some sort of disrespect on the behalf of the movie industry towards the audience I'm glad we had the chance to hang together with you and of course I'm happy I could see Jake in the flesh who is as beautiful as the pics suggest...:)
And I couldn't imagine all those Jake fan!
I'm going to send you the newspaper today...:)
Welcome back dear WDW - ! - feels to me also that you've been away forever - on athe other hand, knowing you were there added intimacy to the incoming pictures,
as in Cannes - and anyway Jake has given a whole new meaning to time and travel haha donnie darko -
O gosh thank you so much for pictures, and commentary - dirty red carpet, SO Rome - and a shout out to Kelley Sane - YAY! O you done good, babe!
I have more questions, but must be off, into the day.
(We do need a name for the BG - )
Hi everyone :) woah, what a long sleep after a late night trying to catch up on a few Jake things and reading some of the new articles. Thanks so much for your fine welcome home.
Hi Neely - I was on the plane with some Red Sox fans and I could even discuss them as if I had a little knowledge - thanks to Jake! So they're winning again, eh? That'll make our guy happy.
Hey Bobbyanna - the award season - I feel emotionally drained just thinking about it :) With Zodiac and Rendition hopefully in for consideraion it could be extremely stressful but I hope rewarding.
Thanks Sas - enjoy the viewing. How I wish I could freezeframe that opening shot of Jake.
Birdgirl - good to see you! Thanks very much. Meeting Xenia and being looked after so well by her just made the trip.
Hi Rosie - thanks for the welcome back! It's a strange thing but as soon as Jake appeared I didn't feel so cold anymore, weird that.
Thanks Jantoinette - I read that article last night and it did make me laugh. Jake does say some strange things sometimes and we love it!
Welcome Sonia! I'm delighted to see you here :) That's so great that you were there too. It was very special wasn't it? I'm sure you'll see him again, now you know you can. This was the fourth red carpet event for me this year (there was another in LA but Jake didn't go to that one), with my biggest 'success' in Toronto where I saw him three times in two days. For me, it's all about these grand occasions when Jake is on top movie star form and is there doing his job for us - he does it brilliantly. It's priceless to be able to go along and cheer him on. It's so exciting isn't it?! The minutes before Jake shows up are incredible :D
Hey Xenia - hi! Thanks so much for your splendid and loving hospitality - not to mention the wine, which I loved. It was great to see how many fans Jake had along the red carpet and in the theatre - as you say, the organisation lacked something but hopefully if there's a next time lessons will be learned. Thanks for sending me the newspaper! I'll have something to send you too shortly :) Thanks again Xenia - I loved us sharing the adventure.
I missed you Positively Pia! We were just posting at the same time too. I was thinking of you and everyone when I was there. It is interesting comparing these festivals, each is unique. I'll speak to you later :)
Hey WDW! Thanks for your account! Glad you had a good trip. I loved reading about it.
Also I had been wondering why Jake's eyes looked so read in some pics. I guess you answered that one. Must have been the cold!
Hey DutchFriend - so good to see you here and I'm glad you liked the report *) I was surprised by all the red-eye shots myself. Maybe the photographers were too cold to set their cameras properly :)
Mmmm Kelley Sane.
Such a lovely man.
So happy you got a couple pics of and a shoutout to him.
Dogs? DOGS? On the red carpet?
:D
Can't get over it being so cold when I was only in Italy a coupla weeks ago and it was so *warm*!
Rome is so special.
A hundred thousand welcomes back, WDW, I so look forward to discussing it all with you.
I bet The Gorgeous KS was delighted to get a shout-out from you.
Hi Felicia - Kelley was so lovely in Toronto, wasn't he? When I think of how we saw Kelley and that other gorgeous man Omar after the gala ;) Always makes me chuckle!
Hey Anouska- there were dogs aplenty. Before Rendition they were letting anyone walk up and down there with their dogs. Plus dropping ciggie butts. The organisers of Cannes would have had a fit.Fortunately when Jake arrived it was dark and so he wouldn't have noticed the off-red carpet. Looking forward to seeing you :) I don't resent you for depleting Italy of its warm weather, honest...
WDW, welcome back and thanks for the great Rome report!! Once again sounds like you had a magical time in the presence of Jake, KS, et al. Hope you are all warmed up. :D
Again, this place is truly a haven. It has been disheartening to read some of the stuff about Jake/Rendition, etc. that is going on around the net. Coming here always brightens my day! :D
Btw, wild that they let dogs and ciggies on the red carpet?!?! lol
One more last post, lol. LOVE your pics from Rome and Red Carpet, WDW. Wonderful!
Welcome back, WDW! Missed you like the dickens.
Hey, no apologies necessary for taking those shots. That's why I just took vid in Toronto. I figured all I could do was press the button once and to hell with trying to focus. Fuck that shit. He-Who-Shall-Remain-Ever-Hot was a few feet from me, I'm just vying for oxygen.
However, you braved the cold, you sweet thing. Plus I love that you called out to Ever So Sexy Sane. His script was incredible and if anyone is going to get an Oscar out of his, or at least a nomination, it should be him.
As for Reese. Reese shmeese. WTFE. Your eyes should only be on Jake. Actually E-stalk and I were rofl Saturday trying to picture puny Tobey Maguire on the same screen as Jake.
Enjoy your day off, honey, you totally deserve it. Just picture youself in one of those moon beds with spandex clad space Jake. That oughta warm you up. Have a good one, eh?
xx Em
WDW, I've been disappointed with how Rendition is going here in the US. Not because of the ratings necessarily, but because whenever I have gone to see it (3 times now ;) people have been walking out even before half the movie is over. I don't know if it's because it's not what they expected or if they're saturated with this kind of genre. I didn't think it would be a box office hit but I thought it would have done better. I wish people would give it more of a chance. To see Jake in this role is really a treat.
Hey WDW,I finally got here for the lowdown from our roving reporter in Rome! Glad you're home safely,it's been strange without you, although TL and Anouska were excellent "babysitters"! Please God,by now Jake's home safe and sound too.
Well done for braving the cold so we could attend the Rome festival vicariously through you. Jake looked stunning though at times a little sore/sad eyed, he looks so good in grey, a beautiful foil for Reese's gorgeous (what looked like Burgundy in the photos) dress.
I sympathise with your disappointment that the "Rendtion" entourage stayed so briefly during the gala - surely hurried away elsewhere to attend some corporate do which the film company thought more important :-( I know they must have had to sit through "Rendition" several times now (although I could live with that!) but we all have to put up with doing repetitive things in our jobs, day in day out, don't we? I'm sure some "suits" with a financial incentive will have mapped out the itinerary though and even had the cast etc wanted to stay for the fans they may have had little choice.
I'm stumped for a snappy name for Jake's bodyguard, can't come up with anything other than "The Shadow",although I'm more than happy to see him taking his job seriously and concentrating hard on idiot-spotting to keep Jake safe. The guy can look as daunting and humourless as he likes as long as he makes sure no harm befalls our man.
Another well done from me for making sure The Gorgeous Kelley Sane was made to feel appreciated. As the writing of "Rendition" is a work of sheer brilliance,he deserves all the plaudits he can get and I hope he'll be among the nominations when Awards Season comes around again. He deserves the highest recognition for concocting such a thought-provoking,topical thriller, centred far too much in the real world for some viewers but compellingly so for me...and Jake's right, most important is the moving human story at its core, brought so heart-rendingly to life by the entire cast!
As I type this I have the theme music playing from the website. I'm going to see it again tomorrow with the friend whom I also persuaded along to "Brokeback" and "Jarhead" - they both far exceeded her expectations and shes really up for "Rendtion". I know she'll love it.
I even did a promotional job on the new physiotherapist I saw this morning ( a really sweet guy and quite fit, which made getting my kit off in front of him all the harder! :-( ). He asked me about hobbies and interests while bending me in half and so I had to include Jake in the list. He said he's seen a lot of the publicity for "Rendition" and was tempted to see it,what did I think?! He is no doubt now about Jake's stunning performance and that it's a film he really has to go and see!
As for freeze-framing that opening shot of Jake,I know it seems a long wait now,but the way time flies without us noticing, the DVD will be out before we know it...oh, just think of the slow-mo,the freeze-frame and the screencaps!!!
Hi Get Real! Good to see you. Thank you so so much for saying the site brightens your day. It certainly does mine. I missed everyone like I couldn't believe when I was away, fortunately Jake was on hand!
Hi Em! Missed you too :) Your video was so good. I tried but I just couldn't get my camera going properly and my fingers wouldn't work.
Sharing a moon bed with astronaut Jake in spandex - yep, that's cranked up the heating.
CWG - that's terrible people have walked out!! Well more fool them for not being openminded to what's going on out there in the world. Fortunately, I have only ever seen this film was appreciative audiences.
I'm off now to see Rendition again. I've spent all day catching up on everything and putting stuff together. It's just so amazing!
Hi Nadine! Thanks for your great comment! I'm running out of the door now so I'll chat with you when I'm back - gonna force myself to see Rendition again... :)
Hey WDW, that's what I call a long post, huh? LOL!
I will have to go back and read it and the comments in detail when I am back home on the weekend!
I just wanted to say welcome back!
Seems you had a good time - again?
Do you think you will see him a fifth time this year??? :D :D :D
Now get some well deserved rest!
Thanks for the post and photos. I'm sure the film will do fine here in the UK, but was it really a good idea to schedule it for half-term week? That alone will push it down the charts, behind Stardust, Daddy Day Camp and the rest of the family fodder. I know they seem to have pushed UK and US release dates together, but so soon after The kingdom and just before Lions for Lambs may ahve been a bad call.
Actually, WDW, I forgot to ask...
What was the reaction in Rome like, compared to Toronto? E-stalk and I were very disappointed in the crowd response when we saw Rendition on Saturday. We went to a matinee so we weren't expecting a lot of people there (there were maybe 8 people not including us?) but there was absolutely no response from the audience at all. No laughs or gasps or anything really...nothing close to what happened during the TIFF. I'm hoping it's just because some of the key scenes were already spoiled in promos and the like...From what you said, it looks like Rome had a similar response as at the TIFF, which is gratifying and gives me hope the movie will pick up steam despite dismal opening weekend results.
Also, it is disappointing not even Gavin Hood stuck around or came back for the end. Especially after the ovation from Toronto. What a shame. Do you think the movie would have received a standing ovation if any of the cast/crew stuck around? Did it feel that way from the way the crowd responded to the film?
It would be interesting to hear your perspective now that you're a Jake Premiere Queen.
xx Em
ps. I think we should call Mr. Bodyguard... The Date. lol.
Smilesalot...my words exactly, I experienced the same type of thing...small audiences and no responses.
BTW, I love the nickname 'the date'...perfect.
Just Jared just posted Jake and Reese holding hands at LAX airport, I know it's gossip but I have to say they look soooo cute together. I kinda knew it all along. They're perfect together.
WDW I guess press conference was not taped? any buzz about it?
According to the Entertainment Page on the BBCi listings,"Rendition" was number 3 in the UK Box Office over the weekend, behind "Ratatouille" and "Stardust".
Evening everyone - just got back from Rendition again - only about 6 people in the audience but it was at a funny time. Nadine - that's good news about the box office in the UK - it's half term so that rat thing was bound to do well.
Em - without doubt Rendition would have had a standing ovation at Rome if Gavin et al had hung around. Everyone was applauding and then we al seemed taken aback upon realising we'd been stood up!
Love The Date!
Hi Positively Pia - I have some video clips of the press conference :)
CWG I saw those pics but there's clearly some trouble with them as JJ have taken them down.
Hi Uli and Bmg! I agree about the timing - half term is an odd week in the UK.
I tell you, I've tried to do a post three times today but there's so much going on, so I'm going to do another one right now - and I have a bottle of Jake's fave Stella to help.
My 2 cents worth for a name for Jake's bodyguard....
