Jake's InStyle Photoshoot with Peter - and Jake gets hairier than ever

With a huge thank you to Stephanie at IHJ, here are pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard taken at the Toronto International Film Festival. Ben Watts took these wonderful pictures for InStyle magazine and show - as if I ever thought otherwise - that, despite all the coffee we see Jake drink, at heart he is an English Breakfast Tea afficianado. Or is that Earl Grey?

Jake takes not shaving to whole new levels of hairiness

I try and do my best to post serious and earnest posts about why some critics have got Rendition all wrong, to get people to see this fabulous film, and what happens? Jake appears in public as a hairy primate. Of course, this could be in response to all the pleas to shave off the beard - sort of the contrary response. However, gorilla or no gorilla, I will always recognise Jake Gyllenhaal by his shoes - it's a gift.

Out and about in Beverly Hills, 31 October 2007

Photographs were taken of Jake walking around Beverly Hills yesterday, and the stroll ended in controversy. When Jake got into a car, he pushed/hit the paparazzi's camera away in an action which has been interpreted by TMZ as a 'pap smack'. Jake apologised straight away. I hope I'm not the only one in sending Jake some love tonight.

It's nearly the weekend - if you can, go and see Rendition!

Friday tomorrow and you know what that means? The weekend is almost upon us and so more Rendition. Drag people into the cinemas if you have to - they'll thank you for it.

Pictures from IHJ.

WDW, I want to join you sending out some Jake love tonight.

Loved the InStyle pics too. But I'll take Jake anyway he comes.... a coffee drinking gorilla does it for me anyday!

I'm going to see Rendition again too, never enough Jake....

Hi Rosiet - good to see you and good to join you in sending out some Jake love. Fortunately, you don't get too many coffee-drinking gorillas in these parts but if they wear Nike, maybe I'll give them a go :) I'll be seeing Rendition again too this weekend. I think all of us who can should get out there and see it again.

I see a trip to the local Barnes and Noble is in order this weekend. Who says celeb-worshipping makes you stop buying books?

Hi all,

Sending Jake lots of love. (((Jake)))

Lots of good stuff! Love the pics of Jake and Peter! Jake in cotume very funny. Sad that they had to be harassed so. Same goes for Jake and the paps. I highly doubt Jake would strike without a reason. I wouldn't doubt they were being particularly intrusive or said something to get a rise out of him. :(

OMG, UV those pics are HOT!! I wish we could see larger versions of them. Will be on the lookout for that book! Love Mario Testino's photos and those are beautiful ones of Jake.

Pia, I was just at the store again and you are right. The Nov. 5th issue of the New Yorker does not have the review that I mentioned. It does have that David Denby review. The same review that was online. So the issue that I saw must have been the week before. It was there I promise! Maybe that other reviewer (I saw the initials as S.L.) was at TIFF? Anyway, seems they now have replaced it with DD's reivew? :/

Jake as a Gorilla? I would have chosen a Prince costume for him. Wonder who the Transformer mask was for?

Anonymous said...

I have been sending people to see Rendition every chance I get. I will also check at my local BORDERS bookstore, UV, to see if the Testino book is there. LOL!
The shoes on that Gorrilla are a dead giveaway, WDW. But there is something else, the way he's walking, his arms, his hands, IDK. Something that tells me it's Jake.
The paps are so damned agressive. I believe they like to create or provoke problems bcz it is more saleable. And they can always initiate a lawsuit for "injuries."
I guess I will watch TMZ tonight to see if they have even more footage of the (non) incident.

Hey UV - thanks for that - that book looks wonderful. So wonderful in fact I immediately ordered it from Amazon (gave me an excuse to order the new DDarko book too).

Hey Get Real - I've just ordered the book so should see big versions of the pics in a week when I get it.

hey CWG - I can think of a million and one better costumes for Jake myself (thinking romantic pirates here...). I think the Transformer helmet was for Reese's son. I know there were other pictures but I don't intend to post any pictures of Reese's children on WDW.

Hope we're all having a good evening! I'm working at home tomorrow.... no 5 hour commute - phew :)

Hi WDW and all,

Hope everyone had a happy Halloween and Samhain. What a lovely thought, Samhain. Thanks, WDW! I have loved Halloween and the season change to Fall ever since I was a kid, so it's a magical time for me. I love a man in a gorilla suit, too! Gotta love Jake's sense of humor. ;) Is it crazy that I find this just so charming? I'll have to see the other pics.

Yes, as the weekend is almost upon us, I may have to see Rendition a third time. I'm disappointed that more people haven't seen it, but I really think that it's something Americans may not be ready to deal with or accept. How's it doing across the pond? I thought it was really good, in many ways.

Anonymous said...

Oops, forgot to add, I'm sending Jake some love too, since I'm sure a run-in with paps is not pleasant.

getreal, you can click on the gallery link and if you register, you can see the pics in really, really big size. In fact, on my huge monitor, it's a little scary.

Also, if you want to lose your lunch (or dinner), you can go to Flynet to see video of Reese and Jake in their costumes. The photographer is pretty much a slime.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Marina - good to see you again - I hope you had a good break. In the UK, halloween isn't that big (except commercially). It's an American festival. When I was a child nothing was done for it. But the pagan origin of some of these festivals is sometimes remembered here. This is a magical time, true enough. And today in London it was so warm for 1 November. That's very unusual for the week of Bonfire Night. This is usually the week when we all freeze!

I think Rendition is doing better over here although on it's opening week it had to compete with films for the school holidays. It's stilla round by me next week so I intend to see it again this weekend. I've been posting reviews of the film around the net on local sites as well - anything to try and get people to see this wonderful film.

Hey UV Thanks for the photo information - they're wonderful pictures. As for Flynet - that photographer is an .... I'm too polite to say what :(

According to the BBC on Tuesday, Rendition was 5th at the UK box office, having dropped from 3rd the previous week.

I have to say my favourite costume on Jake is a rodeo cowboy or a marine on Christmas eve ;) Much more flattering. No more masks please Jake, you are too beautiful for that.

Sending love to WDW and Jake as usual. :)

Hi there! LOL Ultraviolet, I think you are responsible for the record of users being online at the same time on that Jake site you just posted the link for...
And thanks a lot for that link... Mmmmmmh, nice pics! Especially # 2 + 3 ;D ;D
And good to see you here... :)

Hm, I gotta wait another 3 weeks till I can see Rendition! But trust me I will help a bit with the BoxOffice... ;D

Thanks for the lovely InStyle pics, although I'm wondering if Jake and Peter are having a beard-growing competition? lol I also adore the pics from the photobook. They are *to die for*

It's sad to hear about Jake and the paps, but I'm amazed Jake can be so gracious and calm when he gets a camera lens stuck in his face all the time. I hope it didn't spoil his hallowe'en fun, despite me not really getting all the fuss around hallowe'en.

By the way, I'm newcomer Christie from a previous post - I'm having trouble with my computer!

Yes, lottsa love to Jake. Paps are gonna be all over them, also men look better scruffy than do women, and you dont want your kids harrassed. And Jake is very protective of those he loves. Wow what a row to hoe!

Double wow for the Mario Testino pictures: one is especially provocative, to put it mildly; wonder how long ago that was taken? he looks quite young.

Peter and Jake are adorable together!

thanks everybody!

Thanks for the pics of Jake and Peter WDW! That's the sort of Jake love I need right now after seeing Rendition this afternoon. I'm always happy to send love out to Jake anyway but I think he really needs it atm.

Anonymous said...

And now you need to explain to me what makes you think Jake is drinking tea? I know it is stupid, but I would love that - as a tea person myself... Never drank a single cup of coffee in my whole life... And Earl Grey would be just perfect! My favourite!!
Those pics of Jake and Peter are so nice. And I keep wondering what the secret of Peter's thighs is... LOL!

Thanks for everything you do here WDW! Great place, as always!!

Anonymous said...

Oh, thanks UV for letting us know we can register and see the pics nice and large!! ;)

WDW, I have sent people to see Rendition too. Trying to spread the word!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi! How good is it to see all the love for Jake here tonight - keep it coming :)

Hey Ruby - yes Jake as a marine or a rodeo cowboy is fine by me ;) And definitely, no more masks.

Hi Uli - my laptop crashed when I visited the site so I reckon it's getting a fair few visitors who might appreciate photos of Jak without a shirt... Not myself, obviously ;) Add let us know what you think of Rendition when it's out!

Hi Christie - computer troubles seem to be everywhere tonight! I'm not into Halloween either being a Brit but I hope Jake had a good time despite all this (just never wear a gorilla suit again, OK?). The pictues with Peter are simply wonderful - more so as I saw them both that day and said a few words.

Hey Pia - tis very true - Jake looks gorgeous scruddy. Wonderful pictures.

Yeay! Twisted Logie - I'm glad the weather meant you could see Rendition again. I must wait for Saturday.

WDW, I have sent people to see Rendition too. Trying to spread the word! - That's great, Get Real. I've done the same and they've liked it.

The flynet video was sickening. Especially when the pap said It's Halloween You're supposed to be scared." Can you even imagine what kind of personality it takes to be one of those animals! I think Jake and Reese must have some kind of coordination thing going on. It seems Reese was deliberately walking into the paps, to distract and todeliver a well deserved reprimand to them, while Jake went to see about the kids. At least that's how it seemed. They split up and went in different directions. Don't these people realize that by showing the world how awful they truly are, they have absolutely no public support?

Anonymous said...

Hi everyone!

I'm sending Jake lots of love, too. You'll never have to ask twice. :)

"Jake appears in public as a hairy primate. Of course, this could be in response to all the pleas to shave off the beard - sort of the contrary response."

I think so - kind of like "Hairy? You haven't seen hairy!" It reminds me of Conan's comment when Jake was telling him the jellyfish sting story. He asked if the peeing really helped or was it just to get the swimmer's mind off the pain of the sting. :D

Thanks ultraviolet for the heads-up on the book. And thanks again WDW for everything you bring us each day. When it sometimes feels like the world's gone crazy, this is my little oasis. I raise my glass to you (holding on with both hands, like Jake)

Sadly, tonight is the last night for "Rendition" at my theater, but I was able to see it 3 times. And I feel the need to send him some love again. What can I say - I'm a bit obsessive. :)

Hi WDW,
I practically wore myself to a frazzle this week, having fun here with you, while enjoying Reese and Jake falling in deep like, if not love.
I am no spring chicken; I find as I get older, that couples in love or starting out together in deep deep like, make me weepy happy, and cause me to reminisce, about my falling in love days:)
Thanks so much UV for mentioning the book, and thanks again for the registration tip:)
I hope everyone had a great Halloween. It seems Jake and his new lil family, had some little bit of fun, before the paps arrived.
The paps are a nuisance here in NYC, but for some reason, they don't seem as intrusive as they do in LA. Maybe it's that the entire city goes nuts that night with our annual huge parade, and all the kiddos and grownups in costumes, with parties being held almost everywhere. I think it might be more difficult to spot celebs here at night in the midst of thousands of people...maybe not.
I can almost see them going out to trick or treat up and down the W. Village side streets with some success.
It was quite warm here last night so everyone had a great time.
I've been sending tons of love to Jake today, along with peace and my wishes for his continued happiness.
In view of the ill will, and animosity being sent his way, by many of his so-called fans, I thought it necessary.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone :) Spared the long commute today - phew...

Hi Bobbyanna - pap videos are revealing because they show what the paps are actually saying, something we're usually spared but the stars are not.

Hey Neely - good to see you. When I saw that picture it reminded me of the SNL Iranian video with Adam Levine and the Hairy Jake Gyllenhaal line. Cheers to you, too and thanks :D It does feel like the world's gone crazy at times but I'm aiming to steer WDW above it all to keep the focus on Jake.

Hey Sass - you soppy thing you *) We had a warm day here too yesterday - very odd for the time of year. We had quite a few trick or treaters going round the place on the 31. I managed to restrain myself from getting my water pistol out...

Loads of Jake love coming from here - and a third trip to see Rendition this weekend. It's number 5 in London this week, so not doing to too badly.

I really hope Jake and Reese had some fun before the paps turned up to hassle them, scaring children is despicable.

And Earl Grey - ugh, Jake's a Tetley man if every I saw one :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Anon I agree that Rendition's doing pretty well in London. Taking strong exception to the Tetley comment - good for removing stains from saucepans I grant you - but Jake is so clearly an Earl Grey Boy ;) Assam at a push...

Good afternoon everyone! Happy Friday!

Re: the tea "debate" - can't beat good old PG Tips for me! And as for the weather, now you mention it WDW, it HAS been unusually warm here for this time of year. And funnily enough it has been for the last three weeks, since Jake was over here. Coincidence? I think not ;) Too right Jake should swim everywhere, it's obviously his hotness that's responsible for global warming;)

Hello all in WDW land!

Jake as gorilla. Hmmmm, very animalistic. He certainly has me in the palm of his hand.

Love those pix of Jakey and Peter. Missy and I noticed that Peter's skin was really awful in Rendition, but Peter looks very sweet in these pix with Jake. Must be Jake's beauty reflecting off everyone he meets! Toronto suits both of them, doesn't it?

Christie - nice to see you here, honey. You must have blue drinks when you're in New York in a few weeks. And if you happen to "bump" into Jake while you're there...well then, forget the blue drinks and drive away with him. (up North preferably).

Guh. I love this site. Coffee drinking, tea drinking, wine drinking -- whatever we're into, we're drinking Jake in! And I actually mean that in a non-slashy way, you dirty minded people. Although...if I had said "drinkin'" then it would have sounded dirty. (That's for the Grey's Anatomy fans, sorry OT)
xx Em

Hello everyone. Happy Friday from me too...I love Fridays, mainly for the fact it's my one day off work, aka indulgence day for me. lol Thanks for the welcome Smiles, and yeah, I plan to drink a certain blue drink whilst I'm in NY and if I see Jake, well I can blame it on the copious amounts of blue drinks that made me fall down. lol

Oh and re the tea debate - I'm an unusual Brit as I don't drink tea, or coffee for that matter. So I wouldn't know an earl grey from a Tetleys if it hit me in the face!

Thanks for the Jake- Peter photos. So cute together!

And poor Jake, they should be apologizing to him!

Will the In Style pictures be in the magazine, do you know?

Thank you for this blog, Kate. Your love for Jake is so clear here.

Hi all,

Happy Friday as well - it's usually my day off but I'm working today. Will be going to see Rendition with my hubby this weekend to get his opinion. :)

I did watch the Halloween pap video and cringed. I did not like his menacing tone, and found it to be harassing and insulting to Reese. I've said it before, I'm glad I'm a nobody! Loved the gorilla suit, but cowboy and sailor on leave does it for me too, Ruby. OK, enough already. ;)

Love the InStyle pics, I am definitely a tea person, although I love coffee too. Earl Grey and Darjeeling for me, anything really, but I usually have plain old Salada. ;)

Have a nice weekend, everyone! :*

Happy Friday everyone:) and I'm home, no travelling! Never mind the cups of tea, what about the blue stuff ...

First of, must thank my Anonymous friend who sent me People - it arrived this afternoon. Thank you so much. There are some very kind people here...

Blogger keeps eating my comments - I hope this time it'll work as they're getting progressively more boring (the first one was quite funny ;) )

hey Twisted Logic - I'll still love you despite the PG Tips - I culd never handle t-bags shaped like pyramids. The weather here is so strange and it's the Bonfie Night parties tomorrow night round here - we should be freezing our bits of.

Hi Smiles! Peter was just fabulous in Toronto - and relatively unbothered by attention, unlike the brother-in-law. I'm glad Peter was there with him. And you naughty Slasher you... ;)

Christie - your trip to NYC sounds great - I wish you luck on both the Jake and blue stuff fronts. I do agree that there are better things to be drinking than tea or coffeee ;)

Thanks so much Barbara - I don't think InStyle showed the pictures like that but as a montage. I posted one, I'll find the other.

Good to see you Marina - you must let us know what you and hubby think of Rendition. I have an image in my head of Jake as a Napoleonic-period soldier - re Vanity Fair - black boots, white flowing shirt and long red coat... Great choice of tea ;)

I can't believe I'm admitting it but my MP3 has come across bagpipe music and I'm enjoying it...

Phew! Thank you blogger for working this time...

Hello folks from the library , as my PC is still in Intensive Care at the Pooter hospital :-( Thanks for the tea and sympathy,WDW(although I'm a coffee girl through and through).

I love the Instyle photographs although I think that Peter also looks much better without the face-fungus. And the Mario Testino shots are just lovely(my faves are 2 and 4). He is such a brilliant photographer, his shots of Princess Diana were among the best she ever had taken. He really catches a person's inner loveliness as well as their outer gorgeousness, not that that would be too difficult a task with either Diana,God rest her, or Jake (except for those of us who get terminal camera shake at the prospect,eh WDW? Totally understandable!Sadly I've yet to have the opportunity :-( )
Thanks for the heads-up about that book UV!

It's ok to be soppy and sentimental Sass, I'm prone to that too, although I'm afraid my cynical streak is getting broader as I get older too. Not so cynical though that I would consider shooting kids on the doorstep with a water pistol,WDW! ;-)

I don't actually approve of Trick or Treating (dangerous for kids out on their own and can be seen as "demanding money with menaces" ,which can scare some old people witless if the kids involved are little horrors) However, despite not being "into" kids in a big way,I still had lots of big bags of sweets ready for the callers I had on the 31st because I couldn't sent them away empty handed. I'm just a push-over really!

And as for sending Jake lots of love...well that's a given,I do it all the time, but I'm sending him extra generous helpings at the moment. I'm only surprised he hasn't lashed out more often, especially at the more aggressive paps, and he hardly beat the bloke to a pulp, just pushed his camera away. Big hugs (((Jake))) xxx

Anonymous said...

Rooibos? based on his energy levels, i'm pretty sure Jake doesn't need anything caffienated.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Nadine - sorry your PC is till poorly. Not good at all. The pics are gorgeous aren't they - I'm sure if I got the chance to practise enough the JakeQuake would disappear :)

I thought the water pistol was an improvement on a catapult... I'm afraid I had no sweets ready - I'd have eaten them if I had. I definitely agree that pushing a camera away is hardly smacking the man holding it.

hi bmg! - we often seem to see Jake drinking coffee when, as you say, his energy levels look fine to me :)

I love those pictures of Jake and Peter. Although their characters never met in the movie, one can hope that, after the movie was over, Alan and Douglas got together and got things sorted out.
In any event, jake and Peter *should* be together in movies. They seem to have great chemistry.
Better chemistry, I think, than Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. ;-)

I don't quit eunderstand where the gorilla suit came in, but we are often realizing, after the fact, that Jake does a lot of apparently carefree things that later turn out to have been for a distinct purpose. As an example, take Jake's trip to Fenway park to see the Red Sox play. He was photographed with a Red Sox cap on, and quoted as a Red Sox fan. Later, we found out that Jake was the first choice to play Sox player Jon lester in a forthcoming film.

So, you have to ask yourself: what movies of the past have featured men in gorilla suits? "Where's Poppa" comes to mind. And, there are pictures that show Jake to be an admirer of Shirley MacLaine. So, Jake may well be signing on for a remake of "Where's Poppa," playing the lawyer brother who has to hike across Central Park at night to come to Mama's aid (Mama as plkayed by Shirley MacLaine), and getting robbed by the thugs that are in the Park. Until he gets the idea of wwearing the gorilla suit. :-)
