Jake's style - it just works

Today's post is all about Style - something that, I'm sure you'll agree, Jake Gyllenhaal has got by the shedload (gorilla suits being the exception that proves the rule). And it isn't only Gyllenhaalics who think their man was born with the enviable gift of making even (or especially) a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt look like the stuff of catwalks. Whether it's a suit for the red carpet or talk show, casual trousers and shirt for an evening out, an apron for cooking with Ellen, or a pair of blue trunks for walking along the beach, Jake knows best. Although Jake has dressing consultants (the Hallworth Twins - see the trunk below) for big events, they have - to put it mildly - good material.

I saw an article today in The Shopping Blog for Men, which focuses on our Jake: 'Jake Gyllenhaal is the kind of actor who flies under the radar — both in his roles and in his style. But when it comes to casual, Jake’s got it wrapped up. He knows the value of a great pair of jeans, some fashion shades, and a good haircut doesn’t hurt, either.' I must agree that sometimes it might be good to see Jake in more colour (I loved the blue tie at Cannes). Here you get the tips to dress yourself - or your other half - as Jake, but the affordable way, right down to the watch.

Yesterday, I posted the pictures from the InStyle shoot. Here are the two pages which resulted from that shoot, the first of which was posted a few days. In addition to Jake and Peter Sarsgaard, the montage shows a few other familiar faces and I'm not proud to say that I can only recognise two of them (and one is a bit iffy).

Thanks to jakegyllenhaalfan.com we can see five new/old pictures of Jake (from a 2003) shoot which are published in the new book Let Me In. This book contains hundreds of photographs of well known faces by the highly respected fashion photographer Mario Testino. If you click on these provocative pictures of Jake, they will be huge and you may have to focus on your breathing. Admittedly, in two of these pictures, Jake's style has little to do with fashion or, indeed, clothing.

Includes pictures from IHJ, Mario Testino, InStyle and Jake Gyllenhaal Fan.

Hey WDW! Great post- lots of yummy Jake-ness:D It's true, he always looks stylish whether he's going casual or smart. I can't think of one single time, off the top of my head, where I've thought "Jake!!What the hell are you wearing??!!" I include the gorilla suit in that cos it was for Halloween and I think it's kind of sweet anyway...;)
And he doesn't look bad when he's not wearing clothes either;)!!

Pics very much too hawt for this caff, WDW :)

No more gorilla suits or unlikely poses, please, TL :)

Thanks WDW for these hot pics, and I like to discuss Jake's style. I can't seem to decide whether I like Jake smart or casual, as he seems to do both so well. I really like the way he wears a t-shirt underneath things - he did that in BBM so it must be a Jake-thing, not a Jack-thing. It's a hot thing, so who cares, quite frankly.

I love the "photo sheet" (or whatever you call it, I'm no photographic person) with all the different pics on it. I didn't recognise many people either, apart from Brad Pitt and Naomi Watts (who is the sister of Ben Watts). I did love the additional pics of Jake and Peter on that too. I can never get enough pics of Jake to be honest.

Which is just as well, since we got the newly published pics of Jake by Mario Testino - and they are now BIG. Lovely. I do have to practice my deep breathing exercises when looking at them though.

Thanks again WDW, I think this place is wonderful.

HI everyone - thank you for your comments. I haven't looked at Jake's style on WDW before but I think I may have to with regularity :)

Hi TL I'm not sure if I would call a gorilla suit 'sweet' but each to his own ;) I definitely agree with your last statement though - 100%!

Hey Anouska *) Good to see you this evening out there in the caff.

Hi CWG - I hope your husband turns up very soon :D
I love to discuss Jake's style too Christie - I can never make up my mind whether I prefer the casual or the smart. I do know that there are certain looks/outfits I simply adore - the suits at the Baftas, Cannes and Toronto in particular. But Jake striding across a road with his long legs in jeans is something amazing! I like the 't-shirt under things' look too. It suited Jack and it suits Jake.

Ahh, so that is Naomi Watts! My iffy guess was right then for a change. I've ordered the Testino book - I can't wait to get it. If only I owned a coffee table to put it on :) Thanks so much for commenting!

hehehe!! ;)

I have chosen to censor my comments on those pics, 'cause they wouldn't be work-safe!! ;D

WDW, this is all your fault, I can't leave myself alone!! Someone get me an Agua Velva!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

All I know is Ruby I'd not let you anywhere near Jake's hair - he'd be Jarheaded before we knew it :)

Oh and someone get CWG - the blue stuff quick!

Time to open a bottle of something...

Ruby said...

I would not Jarhead him!!

Cannes hair is perfect! Or current cut (with a trim of the face too!)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oh, all right I'll let you off Ruby - a Cannes haircut would be most acceptable :D I do like it now but it needs to be a little longer with a little less on the chin...

Christie said...

Me too, me too! Although I'd say A LOT less on the chin. The Cannes cut was lovely too, I'm surprised that is not your number one choice since you had an unforgettable Jake-experience there.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Christie - I know, the Cannes cut is well loved for that reason, but for me it has to be Rendition Jake because that is how he looked when I first saw him in person (along with Ruby and Anouska) back in February on Bafta night :) Jake looked so beautiful. That's my favourite suit as well.

Oh WDW....I've only just regained consciousness to post here. And I want to be shallow, but honest.

I PREFER Jake clotheLESS....but....if he has to be dressed then I like er...smart, and casual both. But I love his smart BUT casual look, that he does so well, best of all. When he wears a smart jacket, but with Jeans and T-shirt...God! he looks SO hot then. Well - he looks hot whatever..but I digress..I was getting carried away you see, it's those new pics you posted! They've made me dizzy..

I like Jake with any length of hair, but I don't so much like a beard. Clean shaven or stubble? Oh yeah. Beard? Because it's a Jake beard, I'll get over my beard phobia. But not so hot.

And thank you for the other In Syle pics..were there other people on there with Jake and Peter? I didn't notice....hehehe

chillinwitgyllen said...

Sorry WDW but I kinda lost my head, you know "naked Jaked". I've regained my senses with alittle white wine but I have only one request, please give us some prior notice before you go and do that again, okay?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Rosie - sometimes it's just best to be shallow - after all it's Jake's fault for looking like that :) I just can never make up my mind how I like Jake best... I love stubble and I love clean-shaven. I think I'm ready to see either of those again - the Toronto beard was just fine :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I'll do my best CWG but it's always good to give you a surprise now and again :)

Nice pics, WDW! I love Jake's style too, whether dressed down or dressed to the 9's. He does have the greatest legs in jeans. But I swear, I have never seen a more magnificent example of masculine beauty and virility (except for my own hunny of course!) than how he looked in Rendition. Sorry to make such a shallow comment about so serious a movie, but there you have it. That waking up scene is beautiful.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Marina - that is an incredible scene. Roll on the DVD. This is the thread where all shallow comments are encouraged :D

Ooh good!! I think we could all do with a bit of shallowness atm:)

Btw, WDW, it's not the gorilla suit as such that I thought was sweet, just the fact he was wearing it;) And Anouska, don't worry I have no wish to see it again any time soon (or ever tbh!):)

So which Jake do I prefer? After much consideration (cos Jake IS "the thinking woman's sex symbol" after all, so I couldn't just make a rash decision without examining some evidence and deliberating thoroughly ;) I'd have to go for a little bit of stubble and the blue shirt and jeans combo he wears sometimes. But he looked drop dead handsome in his Bafta suit, like a classic movie star*swoon* And the lilac shirt he wore in Cannes...*faints*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Great comment TL - and I'm glad to hear you did some serious research. Jake looked so much like the movie star he is at the Baftas and that Cannes lilac shirt looked absolutely beautiful on Jake. It is good to see him in colours. I remember reading that Jake's favourite colour is green, but you wouldn't know it from all the blue he wears.

twistedlogic said...

I didn't know green was Jake's favourite colour! See, even a shallow thread here can be informative as well:)
Maybe he meant that it was his favourite colour on other people, nor necessarily himself, or maybe he meant for things like furniture or the walls in his house and that sort of stuff.
I think he wears a lot of blue cos it brings out the blue-ness in those beautiful eyes of his *sigh* Actually, maybe this shallow thread wasn't such a good idea after all, I'm feeling weak...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

TL - I have a wonderful image in my head of Jake in a house with stunning green walls. Blue is so beautiful on Jake :)

Off to bed now - thanks friends for such a good evening. See you tomorrow *)

twistedlogic said...

That's a lovely image, WDW:) I have the same image I've had stuck in my head for a while now: Jake waking up in bed somewhere in North Africa;)

Sweet dreams!

I don't know, that one pic with his eyes open really really REALLY wide is kind of freaking me out. We all know he has those big beautiful eyes, but they are just TOO big in that picture. Particularly when you click to enlarge.

I know he's goofing around but still--dare I say something is not a good look for Jake?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! Another beautiful day :D

My Testino book arrived this morning - it's fabulous and a lot of book for such a cheap price. The two pictures of Jake without the shirts (do you know the ones I mean?) were actually taken in London during 2003.

The picture of Jake all wide-eyed was taken at a function in LA and Jake is sitting with Richard Gere.

Welcome Azurite - thanks for commenting! That is a scary picture all right and you can definitely say that something isn't a good look for Jake. It doesn't hapen very often but it does happen :D

Off to see Rendition again in a couple of hours for the third time (I don't count the Toronto and Rome showings because I couldn't concentrate...)

well it was UV who innocently (or not: whattcha doin' to us, woman?) posted a link to the Testino book so I was taking my meds to be prepared to see WDW's rendition haha of these. Apparently these were part of a Teen Vogue or Vogue Teen 2003 or something photoshoot from which one of my favorite pictures derives, of 22 year old Jake removing shirt - thot THAT was one of the hottest picture of Jake ever seen. I wonder what else there is tucked away in the files of famous photogs?

I love Jake's colors because they are also mine! - earth colors, greys, blues, blacks, silver - and every now and then a dashing shot of red!

Jake in a dark jacket lined with sky blue silk is paradise, enow, to me! and oh an orange tie, another dash of flash or flash of dash.

However - I'll take hin nekkid. :)

Good Saturday evening to you, WDW

Now about this Mario Testino book - what does it say, if anything, about the pic where he's kissing Kirsten's eyelid? I think that's such a cute pic.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi everyone! Just back from seeing Rendition again but this time in the coldest cinema - thank heavens for Jake's first scene ;)
Yep THAT scene Bobyanna, I think it's on all our minds when we see the film, possibly a good thing that it's at the start of the film :D

Hey Positively Pia - it would be good if more of these pics would turn up. The picture you refer to with the shirt is such a good picture and, to sound odd, for me it's because of the expression on Jake's face.

That jacket with the blue lining was just stunning. I wear black or blue 99% of the time so I know how easy it is to stick with the same colours but I would love to see Jake in a different t-shirt than that tan/khaki one (not sure on the colour) he's been wearing recently. Maybe it's time for the poststamp one to come out again :)

Hi Felicia - Happy Saturday to you too *) I love that picture too (I'm a big Kirsten fan). It actually covers two pages so on the other you can see more of Kirsten. All it says is "Jake Gyllenhaal and Kirsten Dunst, Los Angeles, 2003."

There are 3 other pictures of Kirsten too from 2003 and 2004 including one in which she's sitting outside laughing while Atticus drags her cardigan off her - just love that one (LA 2004).

There is also a picture of Heath with Helen Christenson from 2006, shots of Jen Aniston and Natalie, and some stunning pictures of Angelina. Jake is one of only a handful of people to have more than one or two pages.

Anonymous said...

Oh Bobbyanna, that scene was incredible. I wish they'd make a poster out of it, I'd paper my wall with it (or ceiling!) ;) Sorry, I couldn't resist.

We're going to see Rendition tomorrow.

AHA! From 2006 you say?

The plot thickens!

I'm not sure the country will be better off with a few fans seeeing "Rendition" many times, and most other people not seeing it at all. There are 100 people (U.S. Senators, specifically) who should be required to see it. There are another 465 (U.S. Congressmen) for whom it should be a priority. I saw "Rendition" once. I'm important, but I want to save some room in theaters for the other people who need to see it. ;-)

As a guy, I don't know how much I can add to the discussion of what clothing suits Jake best. He doesn't look bad in that olive green T-shirt. If that's what he meant by saying green was his favorite color, then let's respect his choice.

I like to see Jake dressed in nice suits, with colorful accessories. It probably is not terribly hard for tailors to fit clothes for him, and he result is that he looks comfortable in the suits. But, I would think Jake would be a tailor's dream, anyway: all straight lines from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. No challenges. Jake is also comfortable in jeans and T-shirts. He's a really lucky guy! The rest of us sometimes need a lot of tailoring!

LOL!!! felicia! Tsk. What a thing to say. Heath???

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oh Marina - I'd paper my ceiling with it too - hmm, wonder what Mr WDW would make of that.

Yep Felicia - I have zero knowledge of Heath gossip I'm afraid. I see Bobbyanna knows what you mean :D I'll try and put the picture up without damaging the book.

Hi Paul - yes, maybe we need a guy's perspective on the clothes thing. I know we should respect Jake's choices as far as his colours go but one of the responsibilities of being a woman (or at least being this woman) is to 'monitor' their man's clothing, whether he needs it or not ;)

Oh to be able to wear anything as Jake can! Not having to worry about disguising the lumps and bumps in the wrong places. He must be a joy to (un)dress.

Seriously though, you are quite right about Rendition - there are people who should see it and won't for whatever reason. I've posted reviews around local sites trying to encourage people near me to go and see it - I'm sure fruitlessly judging by the number of people who were in the theatre with me today. I rarely rewatch films but Jake's will always be the exception, not only because he's so fine in them, but because he makes the films I want to see, that strike a chord. As a result, I can't get enough of them - Zodiac, BBM, Rendition and DDarko in particular.

Thanks for commenting :D
