Jake Gyllenhaal - a man who could be king

It's a strange world - just a few days ago we were talking in the comments about The Other Boleyn Girl and, in an effort to get it back onto the topic of Jake Gyllenhaal, joked that Jake could be the latest in a line of actors to play Big, Bad Henry. So what do you know? Twisted Logic sent me a link (see below), which shows that someone else could also visualise Jake in big puffy sleeves, codpiece and stockings with a trail of hunting dogs and anxious women while eating swan stuffed with peacock.

The Banterist 'used' MyHeritage's 'facial recognition technology' to see which actors should play Henry VIII and each of his six wives: 'The computer scrutinizes the portrait and determines that actor Jake Gyllenhaal would play the King. Can't argue with that, though Jake would have to gain plenty of weight to be a contender.'

It is a surprise, however, to see that, instead of Natalie Portman as Anne Boleyn, we have John Cusack and, for Anne of Cleves, we have Mr Darcy himself, Colin Firth.

Thanks TL! Back later. Includes pictures from IHJ.

Morning WDW! Hope you and my fellow WDW-ers are feeling ok today:) I'm feeling good after my hangover breakfast of strong sweet tea, Marmite crisps and beans on toast, making the most of the peace and quiet before TL Jr gets back:)
Thanks again for yesterday:)
Glad you liked the link:D Actually, it's not as crazy as it sounds, I think it would make for a good spoof type comedy!:D

Hi there TL! I'm not doing too badly surprisingly - the fried egg butty helped :D I loved this link! Thanks for such a good time yesterday.

I'll be back later with another post when I feel more human :D

Ewww! That mention of fried egg has just set my recovery back to square one. I have a weird phobia about fried eggs, just the thought of it makes me feel ill:( Moving swiftly on...

As much as I would like to see Jake in a Tudor drama, the pics in this post reminded me that would mean the beard would have to make a comeback and it's way too soon for that.Jake needs to remain clean shaven for a long time to make up for the months of excessive facial fuzz we had to endure:D

It would help my barely there hangover a lot to know who the other four wives would be. I love this kind of thing. :)

Have a good, water-filled day, folks.

Morning! or it afternoon already? :P

I was my passed-out-drunk self last night, so I went to sleep before 11pm! But what great fun we had yesterday? Thanks TL - you're just the sweetest.

I don't fancy Jake to be a King... he looks more like a cunning cabinet member, if he wants to be a historical baddie. Or a poet/playwright who gets the King or Queen's affection...

I have ham and cheese in flax seed wheat bread... I think I need an aspirin still.

Oops sorry about that, fried-egg-intolerant-TL :D Yep, for Jake to play Henry, he'd have to have a beard and be rather fat. So not ideal.

Hi there Anouska :D

Cate Blanchett would be Katherine of Aragon, Madonna would be Jane Seymour (!), Jessica Alba would be Catherine Howard and Lucy Liu would be Katharine Parr!

Hey there Winterbird, afraid it is afternoon already :D I don't want Jake to be a king either - yes, the evil courtier or the sexy poet would be much better :) So long as it involved wearing a big white shirt... I could see him as a cavalier soldier.

Hi everyone. I tried saying hello earlier but blogger wouldn't give me the 'Publish your comment' button. Is this some kind of censorship? I was trying to say something nice. :D

Thanks to the UK peeps for a great day yesterday, it was fun.

Nice to see John Cusack making an appearance on WDW, he's been a fave of mine for years. Not too sure I like the idea of him in tudor drag though. :/ Come to think of it, I'm not really keen on the idea of Jake as Henry VIII either, although I'm sure he'd have a very nice codpiece. ;-)

Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing okay today. ;)

Thanks to all who commented on my walkabout. I wasn't planning on doing it but it was a delight to do. :) I just happened to be in the area on 6th Ave. and started walking down West 4th (which Pia and Sass will know) and wandered to the side streets, Perry, 11th, 12th, Hudson and Greenwich, etc, etc.

Pia, I will definitely check out Morton and Hudson and Bedford. Sass, yes I hope your health continues to improve and we should go for those drinks.

Wish you all were there, maybe one of these days we could have an NYC WDW get together. :D

Jake as Henry...hmm. Not so sure, lol.

Hey there Ruby - glad to give you some John Cusack even if he does lose his head and wear pearls... You leave Jake's codpiece out of this ;)

I have your can of stella - I'll look after it - one gulp at a time :D

Morning Get Real! Your walk sounded wonderful and I love the idea of a WDW NYC get together, and why not one of these days? And hopefully in the not too distant future.

I love walking round London too - cities are just great for it, you don't know what you'll find.

I like that idea too, Winterbird! Sort of like Queen Elizabeth I's Robbie - I've always been intrigued by that. Somebody please make a film about that. ;) I do like the facial hair pic you chose, WDW - very regal. :)

Hi Bertie! That's one of my favourite pics of a beardy Jake :D

G'sundaymorning sweetpeeps.

Nice touch of laugther, nice timing, WDW - in this morning's post. After your night out it coulda been just beans on toast. :)

Not hung over, myself, but the thot of Jake in a fat suit gives me a headache, makes me wanna urp.

I dont like hearing of how astors are willing to abuse their bodies for roles, George Clooney gaining weight, DDLewis getting all skin and bones to portray dying man, etcetc.

Moisturize and excercise, Jake, but NO BOTOX etcetecetc.

O gosh, worry worry worry.

Lov'd Lovely and Amazing, not perfect, but than it was a story of imperfect lives - very well told and rendered. Jake's character, as written, and rendered, was a gem, I thought.

Good afternoon or evening everyone,

I am glad to see that some of you had a exciting Saturday night. Mine consisted of another viewing of "Knocked Up" and Saturday Night Live. I am such a party girl.

As much as I would like to think that I would love Jake no matter his appearance, fat Jake is not a pretty thought. Maybe I am just so use to him looking so damn delectable.

The idea of John Cusack in drag is priceless. :)

Hello WDW'ers! So this is what you were laughing about yesterday!! No wonder.....the two queens in drag would be a hoot...and I don't mind the thought of Jake in a cod peice either....hehe

Thank you to all you WDW'ers there in person or in spirit yesterday, as they say in 'Shameless' we know how to throw a pAAArty!!!

Hi there Pia - ooh, botoxed Jake, not a happy thought :\ I'm so glad you liked Lovely and Amazing. Jake wasn't in it enough but what there was just shone.

Afternoon Bird Girl :D Fat Jake isn't a happy thought either! You're right, we've been spoiled by all that beauty. I'm definitely ready for a quiet Sunday night...

Hi Rosie! Great to see you yesterday. Oh yes, it was a good party :D This film certainly sounds better than The Other Boleyn Girl, so long as Jake's Henry was young, fit and not too hairy...

*good girl* said...

Good evening everybody :)
So you had a great party yesterday! Wow lucky you, taking part to a great Gyllenhaalics meeting is one of my greatest dreams! No need to say that in London or NY that would be even greater and better!

Thank you WDW for this new post ;D i have to agree with you guys, I'm not sure I'd like to see Jake in such a role and him to gain so much weight, both because that wouldn't be healthy for him (as Pia says) and because well, I love him fit too :P a romantic poet sounds better to me too, passionate and sweet *__* <3

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sonia - it's a wonderful thing to be able to meet fellow Gyllenhaalics that's for sure - I bet we entertained the waiter and the pianist in the restaurant who was right next to us :D We're very lucky. Jake as a romantic poet - yumm! Beautiful to look at and beautiful to listen to as well :)

*good girl* said...

Hi WDW :-* I'm sure you had a great time together, a wonderful occasion to meet new people, I already feel it great to have the chance to "talk" to people from all around the world thanks to the Jake-love :) I for sure would love to meet all you beautiful people in person :) Unfortunately Xenia and I live not so close, and the other few Italian Gyllen-heads I know are from Rome and we dont have many occasions to travel, so :-/

The other night I had this dream (which then became a day-dream! I'm a 24/7 dreamer :P) where few Gyllenhalics had won this weekend with Jake, attending with him some kind of award show, and after spendin the day with him he would buy us (I was in of course, we use to say something like "If I have to dream, I dream big"!) beautiful dresses for the occasion...and then that damn wake up alarm rang and I had to get ready for another boring working day :( :P

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Sonia - that's a great dream! I'd love to go shopping with Jake, what a lot of fun that would be. It is difficult when other Jakers live so far away - there seem to be pockets of the world where there are clusters of fans, and I'm lucky to live in one of them. I hope you do get to meet other fans - including Xenia of course - soon.

I think it should be up to Jake whether he wants to play Henry the 8th--assuming that any director asked him to consider the role.
Eric Bana didn't put on a fat suit for "The Other Boleyn Girl," so maybe Jake wouldn't have to either.
And, way back in the days when William Shakespeare wrote a play about henry the 8th, who is to say that the actor in that play couldn't have been thin?

At the end of the day, what matters is whether Jake feels that a role is one that he could do justice to. We don't have his input on Henry the 8th.....
