Jake leaves the medical centre in BH, 18 March - ShoWest misses Heath

Yesterday (18 March), Jake Gyllenhaal had to run the gauntlet of a scrum of photographers in order to collect his car and leave the medical centre on Bedford Drive, Beverly Hills. The good news is that, although Jake's left shoe is still undone, he is undoubtedly receiving treatment for his ankle and it looks like it's working. The bad news is Jake liked that shirt enough to wear it more than once.

There is a pap video to go with these photos - Jake is calm and cool throughout and the paps aren't hurling insensitive questions about, but it's still quite a melee and all credit to Jake, who no doubt was thankful when he reached the peace of the complicated oneway system of Beverly Hills. So only click the link if you want to.

ShoWest video - Missing Heath

Last week was ShoWest in Las Vegas and The Dark Knight was one of the films which received the most attention for the coming season of releases. As mentioned here the other day, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan took to the stage as part of the showcase for the film and Heath Ledger was painfully absent. This video shows interviews from that night, in which tribute is paid to Heath, especially by Christian Bale, and the included Batman Trailer just emphasises even more, as if emphasis were needed, of what and whom we're missing.

Pictures with thanks from IHJ.

Hi everyone :)

WDW wrote:"The bad news is Jake liked that shirt enough to wear it more than once"

LOL Ahahahah! I have to agree, that's bad news :P I love him, but I'm not really liking those flannel shirts he's worn lately either :P I'm missing the white t-shirts! I hope summer hits LA asap ;D

And thank you for the video from ShoWest, unfortunately I can't listen to it now, but I'll do it tonight at home :)

I still can't believe Heath isn't here anymore, it's so unfair :(

Hi there Sonia :D Oh yes, roll on the summer LA heat - I need white shirts, or even black ones at a push.

And yes about Heath too :( I was so looking forward to all the excitement surrounding TDK's release and now... I hope you get to see the video. Maggie looks beautiful in it as well.

Thanks for the Batman video. So much has been written, and we've seen for ourselves in clips of his interviews, that Heath was a truly gentle, sweet-spirited, thoughtful man, but this Joker looks about as scary and violent as anything I've seen!

I keep remembering the anecdote, about Michael Caine being so caught up in Heath's performance, that when they had a particular scene together, he forgot his lines.

I will watch the film and celebrate his acting genius. And I will grieve that he is not here to really know how much he is appreciated, and loved. OTOH, maybe now, finally, he does know.

Hey! Thanks for the post! Can't watch the video in the office though :(

I still haven't re-watch any TDK trailer since... you know. I don't know how I would think when the promotion of the movie really unleash...

oh come on - that shirt is not THAT bad. Sure, the birds are odd, but Jake seems to be very fond of that kind of western plaid shirt... maybe he got freebies after BBM! but I have to say, I prefer his "preppy" look...

btw, UK mags have been saying how Mark Ronson makes male cardigan cool again - they should ask Mr Gyllenhaal for advice first!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Bobbyanna :D That's a great think Michael Caine said, I hadn't heard that. I find Heath's Joker totally mesmerising, I'm sure it'll be a triumph. Yep, we will all have to see it and celebrate Heath, but it won't be easy.

Hey Winterbird - that shirt REALLY is that bad! I want to unpick the birds from it. At least the other shirt is blue and I like blue - this is muddy with a flock of birds! Jake certainly makes cardies cool - to think I used to make fun here of his cardies - well bring them back - all is forgiven!

I'm gonna try some sweet tea... :(

Anonymous said...

About the shirt, is it me or is this actually the same shirt with the birds but in a different color? LOL! He likes it so much he bought two? Yikes! I really hope they don't do them with short sleeves!

Hi everyone. I wanted to say I love your blog WDW and I am a faithful reader but I don't comment because I read you from work (I know, I'm a bad, bad employee). I really enjoy your posts and wanted to thank you for all the hard work you put into them.

Hey, good to see you, Olympia, and welcome! Glad to hear you get some escape from work here - I'm sure a little Jaking makes us all much more productive ;D I'm so glad you like the site - thanks very much for letting me know :D

I think it's the same shirt - I think it looks a slightly different colour because of all the false light in the garage. I'm certainly hoping that's the case and that Jake can't have two of the things!! And just the thought of these shirts with short sleeves :P No, Jake, no!! White t-shirts - or nothing at all...

I'm so pleased you were able to comment, Olympia :D

twistedlogic said...

Oh dear. Jake darling,I still love you,but you know, just because something's in a Buy One Get One Free sale doesn't mean you HAVE to buy it;) And what's with the chest hair cover up and wearing sunglasses indoors??? Do you not listen to a word I say these days? *sulks*

Thanks for the TDK video WDW. I'll watch it later cos I dreamt about Heath last night and am still feeling a bit emotional:(

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey TL - we're posting at the same time again :D That's sound advice to Jake - I hope he heeds it. I think he should let us look after his wardrobe for a while...

twistedlogic said...

We were posting at the same time yet again, WDW! I'm with Olympia (hi there, btw!) on the shirt, it's definitely a different one cos the other one has white lines on it, which this one doesn't have (yes, I forced myself to look at the pics of the other one, all in the name of scientific research- the sacrifices I make...*sigh*;))

*good girl* said...

WTW "I think it's the same shirt - I think it looks a slightly different colour because of all the false light in the garage. Someone on IHJ pointed out that he also wore a black&white one, so it makes at least THREE of them ...I can't help it, those shirts hurt my eyes ;D and at the thought of short sleeves flannel I shivered!

Jake, honey, don't you want me to call you GrandPa Jacob, do you?!

And thinking to what you say WDW, white t-shirts or nothing...mmmmmm, I think I may go for NOTHING on ;D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

OMG TL - it's really a different shirt? Jake bought two? You don't think he's got three do you? I'm definitely in need of a lie down now. I'll have to pluck up courage to look at the earlier pics... You and Olympia have much better Jake skills than me!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Sonia - you're right - it's definitely the safer option for Jake to just stick with nothing on. I want to sort out Jake's wardrobe, pronto :D

Morning WDW and everyone,
WDW, I see on NY1 TV station, that our East coast storm is heading towards Europe. Take care of yourselves if it does follow that path.

Jake is biting his lip and looking oh so gorgeous. He has to be in pain, poor baby. A great big Gyllenhallic hug for you from us at WDW Jake.

Does anyone know who makes Jake's favorite flannel shirt? I saw a pap pic yesterday with his bff scowling at the paps and him in another of those shirts...or is it the same shirt he had on yesterday. Poor Reese...NOT...we should all be so poor as that lucky girl:)

I enjoyed many of Anthony Minghella's movies and had just read in the papers, that he was one of the directors, of a segment of Natalie's new movie.
I enjoyed Paris, je t'aime...maybe they will finish the movie.
I have great empathy, for the young Hasidic actor, who was practically run-out of town...or so say our tabs...for even thinking he could act in a movie. He is not even allowed to watch TV. They threatened to kick his kids out of school and that did it.

I watched TDK trailer after I found Ang Lee's interview. I can't imagine the pain of anyone who personally knew, worked with, admired and loved Heath. Sometimes when I think about him, I can't believe he is gone from us.

On a personal note, I found a research program at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, that is involved in Brain trauma, memory loss and executive dysfunction. See saas skipping happily along 5th avenue xing her fingers that they take me in. Kudos to my Neuro doc. Wish me luck peeps:)
NOott up to snuff today so will hang out here and have fun reading old posts.
love you all,
xoxoxo

Well I'll go to the foot of my stairs - I've conducted a scientific study of these photos and those from the 1st March. The results have been rechecked and varified and I can definitely confirm that this IS a totally different shirt and that Jake has, therefore, a minimum of two flannel shirts with birds on 'em. Feeling faint, and it's not all due to the food poisoning...

*good girl* said...

WTW I'm really sorry to tell you that so far our Jake has worn a black&white, a black&blue and a black&brown one, I know it's hard to stand such news, please have a sit and drink some water... something has to be done my GyllenFellows: WDW I'm with you on this mission: Fight the Flannel ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Sass! Good luck with the docs :) Yes, you over there have kindly sent your storm on its way to us over here - we're due a stormy easter. Nothing for it, more chocolate and more booze to get through it - and some rubbish holiday TV.

It was very sad about Minghella's death yesterday.

I'm really hoping Jake has lost all information about where these shirts come from...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Sonia - love that - Fight the Flannel :D I think he has four of these - the two bird shirts, the blue one and the black and white one. Surely, four is enough?? Please...

twistedlogic said...

LOL at "Fight The Flannel" :D Sounds like a very worthy cause to me! I have to say, I don't mind the blue one that much, I can't remember seeing the b&w one (unless I've subconsciously wiped it from my memory) but the two brown ones with the birds I have a serious problem with. I still think they were Atticus's dog blankets in a former life;) I know Jake's into recycling and all that but this is ridiculous!

PS
I meant to say how inspired I was by Barack Obama's speech, as was my son who is bi-racial, and has had to deal with his identity, and what it means in our world, more than I ever wanted him to.

My boy made $50.00 yesterday from the NY Post. He and a friend were recruited by her teacher, and sent over to their headquarters on 48th street, to watch Obama's speech and give their opinions. Not bad eh?

Kate you crack me up about Jake's shirts:lol:lol

You make me soso happy. Laughing really is the best Rx and I'm laughing MAO reading the flannel comments. :lol:lol

Eheh Glad you liked the Fight The Flannel project ;D

I had to check on IHJ, hope it's ok if I post the link here http://www.iheartjakemedia.com/thumbnails.php?album=1180 (in case WDW let me know and I'll delete the post, and I promise I'll never do this again :P) actually this one is black&white&light brown ... well that could be as colored as the rainbow it hurts me anyway :P Jake, please, "take that shirt off!!!" *clapping hands like crazy*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey TL - I hope Atticus has a better class of blanket now if we're going to see them made into shirts for Jake in six months :(

Hi Sass - well the shirts are good for one thing then! Making us laugh, which is a good thing, especially as I'm sick as a parrot with a bucket today and can't get out of bed! Staying cheerful though :D

That's great about your son :D I love to hear all these details about the election from all of you as we only hear bits and pieces here.

Hope you're all having a good day!

*good girl* said...

Mmmm I guess I pasted the link wrong, anyway, if you want to you can check the IHJ gallery, paps pics Feb. 29th :-/

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sonia! No problem at all with the link - thanks :D How I hope that the next pics feature Jake in something (or nothing) else. I liked the white shirt at the market the other day. I never knew I would ever be so informed about flannel shirts... I hope Mr WDW is getting a taste for them after all this :/

*good girl* said...

:D yeah...how do we miss pics of Jake on the beach or at the swimming pool...and even though I discovered Jake well after those moments, I miss it anyway ;)

I'd content with a huge fix of Jake in tux *___* but I guess this is something we won't see in the short term :-/ No award shows or tv appearances in sight right?

Sorry for going OT, I'm especially talkative today :P

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I certainly do miss those pics, Sonia, but the winter is almost over - good news all round! And Jake in a tux is something worth waiting for too :D

paulh said...

My theory about the shirts is that Jake wants to blend in with his surroundings (sort of like camouflage outfits), so fewer paps/fans will notice him.

I have trouble seeing any birds on those shirts. I even doubt that they *are* birds. Boomerangs, maybe.

sass said...

Hey Paul,
Now I can Google Boomerang Flannel shirts. :lol:lol

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Paul and Sass :D They're birds all right - when you click on the pictures you can see they're birds very clearly :)

I like the camouflage theory...

CHILD "What did you do at work today,Daddy?"

FATHER "I hung around in an underground car-park,ambushed a famous man, who was minding his own business, with a bunch of my cronies, asked the odd 'below the belt' question and took lots of photos of him to sell to the media for lots of money..."

That child's going to grow up to be so proud of his father ;-)

Although this is the sort of everday papping incident which I'm sure is like water off a duck's back to Jake most of the time,if you listen to the soundtrack of the video clip very carefully at least one of the scumbags makes some mention of " a comment about Heath". Hats off to Jake for keeping his cool in the face of such puerile and insensitive behaviour!

Ow,can somebody help me down off this soapbox - not really meant to be doing any climbing at the moment ;-) On to lighter matters for a moment and Flannel-gate. To be honest, on a day with a chill in the air I quite like the T-shirt,jeans and lumberjack shirt look on a scrummy man but I'm really not getting the birds at all. They look like a totally incongruous after-thought by the designer and, at a cursory glance, they look more like something a flock of birds has deposited on him from a great height rather than an embellishment on the shirt. Ah well,Jake gets things right most of the time,we have to expect the odd dodgy choice from time to time, although he has been abusing the privelege lately! ;-)

I've still got the shivers from the ShoWest clip. I'm with you here TL - not that I dreamt about Heath last night, but I was reminiscing online with some fellow devotees yesterday evening to mark the 8th week since that terrible Tuesday in January and we were all getting pretty emotional...it got me again when I watched this video with tributes and clips from "TDK".

It's so obvious from these clips, even if we hadn't already heard the hyperbole about his performance from co-stars and crew alike, that Heath's incarnation of the Joker is going to be an absolute tour de force but my eyes prickle with tears at every clip and trailer. Watching the film will do my head in completely...as Sass said,if it's like that for us,how much more unbearable it is for all those who were his close friends, colleagues and family.

And is it me,but despite the obviously psychotic nature of the character Heath has taken on, there is some kind of pathos to him (unrelated to our sense of loss for Heath) and...dare I say it,you'll think I'm really weird!( no change there then!)...despite the face-distorting make-up ,there is something about Heath's physicality in this role which is just so darn sexy?! Oh,just me then,ok........

KeepCalm+CarryOn said...

Oh sorry,I meant to wish you all the best with getting on that research programme Sass! We need to get you sorted...in the meantime, plenty of gently Jaking is definitely the best therapy ;-)

KeepCalm+CarryOn said...

And big hugs to pukey (((WDW)))!!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Nadine :D I found this pap video really interesting because of how Jake held his cool when really it was quite an onslaught. I do believe paps are, for better or worse, part and parcel of being a movie star - we (or most of us, me included) want to see the pics and I'm not fooling myself on that one - but it doesn't hurt to see how well Jake is able to deal with them. They aren't a part of every minute of his day, or indeed every day or week, but when they do turn up, often with scurrilous comments, Jake is a pro. This is not a normal job he has here. Anyway, enough on that... I'm worn out :D

I get the shivers from those TDK clips too. And you're not alone. The first time I saw Heath's Joker I fund him sexy - I couldn't believe it but I did! The power of Heath.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks for the hug, Nadine! I am disgusting! Mr WDW thinks he's given me the bug he had last weekend - how considerate. I can just about use a remote control and look on here every so often. I need Jake to mop my brow and feed me pineapple chunks (my craving...)

sass said...

(((((WDW))))) Feel better soon please. Mr. WDW should be spanked...by you of course:)

And now, I will do exactly what you mentioned. I will enlarge Jake, and gaze at the birdies on his shirt...such a hard job, but it has to be done:)

Incidentally, I love pineapple chunks...yummmm SO good:)
xoxoxo

I can see him now, after leaving that parking garage and careening straight to your door.... racing up the stairs of your house... a cursury howdy to Mr WDW ...bursting through the door and kneeling beside your bed,,, hurriedly taking off his beloved flannel shirt and gently wiping your brow whilst telling you "don't worry about the shirt, I've got 19 more back home".

Get well soon WDW.

I look forward to TDK release and hope I get to watch it with like-minded people that miss Heath as much as I do. I love Christian Bale, he's got to be the best Batman and look forward to Maggie's feisty performance to.

sass said...

What to do on a sickie poo rainy day...make Jake bigger and crop his birdies for my fellow Gyllenhaalic peeps:)

U think Jake is supporting a charity with this shirt? We all know how he is about his charity work; maybe that's it;)

Jake flannel birdies:lol enjoy

Dogs love to sleep on flannel shirts, make a nest in 'em, esp. when they smell of one's master. (sigh, woof woof, sigh) Atticus, do your duty!

good news Sass! I myself drove forty miles today to have a surgical procedure that I was told when I arrived needed to be put off because pre-op report, which they had received a week ago but had not read until I had left home this morning, contra-indicated this procedure. ok whatever Im cool

I thot Obama's speech "historic" and amazing. There's a new breed of men these days and Jake is one them, also.

Only, Jake just GIVE THOSE FLANNEL SHIRTS FO ATTICUS.

Paul, I agree with your theory that Jake hopes to blend in with the landscape but HONEY ITS TOO LATE! Your nekkid body is posted on my fridge!

Sigh!

Hey Sheba! I just showed Mr WDW the pics of Jake's shirt and he wants to know where he can get one - aaggghh!

Thanks so much for that wonderful image of Jake rushing over here to mop my brow - all dashed with the revelation he has 19 more where that shirt came from!

I like Christian Bale too LD

Hey WDW and WDWers!!

Sorry you're not well Wdw. Hope that clears up soon. *-) Maybe it was those tentacles you accidently ate at the weekend ;-)

I see shirt-nasty has returned. What is going on with the lumberjake look? Is he trying to look less sexy on purpose?

As a Batfan, I remember being so excited over TDK. Firstly Heath's casting, then photos appearing and eventually the trailer. I'm still looking forward to seeing it, but I don't know how it can be done without much sniffling and tissue supplies. :(

BirdGirl said...

Hi people,

I see that Lumberjack Jake has returned. It's not that I think that the shirt is ugly (which I do). It's that he is wearing too many clothes. Bring on summer damn it!

I am sorry to hear that you are under the weather Kate. I hope that your tum tum is settling down now that you've got something in it.

Have a good night.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Rubes :D Don't mention the tentacles - it was hard work picking all of them out... Hmmm, shirt-nasty - like that.

I got a bit puzzled when you called yourself a batfan - didn't see you as a naturalist - but I get it now :D It'll be hard but we have to see it.

Hi Bird Girl! Thanks, feeling quite a bit better now but very ready for an early night. That's a very good point about the shirt - less is more - bring on the sun and bare arms (etc).

Hope you all have a good night and I'll catch up with you tomorrow :D

Defamer:
"An angry movie watcher caught up with actor Jake Gyllenhaal in a Southern California parking structure, demanding that Jake give him his "hard-earned" money back for the film Zodiac. The disgruntled man said that it was a three hour movie where nothing happens, and even made extra sure to point out that, by the end of the film, the crime hadn't even been solved! Gyllenhaal successfully defended the film, citing it as some of his best work. He even went as far to say that Jeffrey Wells loved it. The Polo ensconced amateur photog then walked away frustrated, wishing that he would've mentioned either The Day After Tomorrow or Bubble Boy instead."

Morning everyone,

Re the Defamer sighting is hilarious. and Jake is so adorable to defend his own work (and everyone who were brilliant in Zodiac!!!!) That dude is clearly crazy, next he'd say best movie last year was "meet the spartans"!

but i have to say, that's seems to be a, erm, pretty effective way to get Jake's attention and bloody got him to talk to "you" to so long!!!

maybe that dude is a genius, after all. has no movie taste, but genius.

Hope you're feeling better this morning, WDW! I'm sure the new pics will go some way to help - thanks for the tip off Pia!
I'm sure WDW will have them up in a new post soon but here's a couple of links in the meantime:

http://www.wireimage.com/GalleryListing.asp?navtyp=GLS====310018&str=&styp=&sfld=&nbc1=1&sortval=3a&PageNum=1

So good to see our boy looking drop dead gorgeous and smiling despite probably being in quite a lot of pain - what a trooper!
The croc shoes are pretty hideous but I'll cut him some slack there cos I'm sure he's only wearing them for medical purposes and I'm just glad he's doing what he needs to to get better. The fact he's using two crutches is probably a good thing too, I'm no doctor but I imagine it will make his recovery quicker and easier:)

Winterbird, that's a very good point about the guy getting Jake's attention by slagging off Zodiac. If I ever run into Jake I'll try to remember to give him a full and frank account of my feelings about Proof, and the shall we say, less inspired moments in TDAT;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone :D So good to see you - feeling totally recovered after being passed out for 12 hours (and not even due to booze either, what a shame - make up for it tonight...).

I have so much to catch up on -This Defaner sighting is hysterical!! It's obviously a tactic that works and I love that Jake used Jeff Wells in his argument. Wish we'd been there - it's Jake's best film in my opinion and I would've loved battling alongside Jake. And new pics? Blimey...

Thanks very much for that, Monica :D

Hi there Pia - what Jake's on crutches again?

Morning Winterbrd - agreed! Hats off to the guy, even though, as you say, doesn't know a good movie if it hit him in the face. Maybe if I see Eric Bana I should have a go at him...

Morning TL :D Croc shoes... two crutches.... Great idea about Proof - but he'd probably agree with us and walk off :)

Off to get a post up...

:) Well, I won't be online all weekend because of this -- I'll be doing penance and mortification full-time during the break, on account of my suspect worship of all things Jake.

But don't worry -- my confessor is also a Gyllenhaalic. I am serious!
