It's the end of another working week and that can mean only one thing in the world of independent film making - Yep, Nailed is off again... For the third time in almost as many weeks, the plug has been pulled on Nailed - for the second time by IATSE - because wages are not being paid. According to Nikki Finke, there 'are no plans to resume filming until next Thursday at the earliest' and the film is already more than a week behind schedule. But incredibly and fortunately 'both co-stars Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal are hanging in even though these shutdowns are a major pain in the ass for them and Russell and everyone else connected with the movie.'
The Prince of Persia is not due to start filming until July, but schedules will inevitably tighten and breathing space lost. It's like watching traffic lights, trying to keep an eye on the filming of Nailed. Hopefully, Jake, Jessica and David are stoical and can find something to laugh about over an evening pint. Jake at least has the compensation of knowing that the Prince of Persia is unlikely to be laden with similar troubles.
I was sent this picture today (thanks!), which presents an alarming picture of what we - and Jake - may expect from Prince Dastan in terms of pantaloons.
Includes pictures from IHJ and FITSNews.

Jake is back in LA this weekend?
Hi Anon - it's a holiday weekend so I'm sure he'll be off somewhere.
I hope we get some pictures of him this weekend, maybe airport pictures
I need my Jake fix :P
Mmmm.... "Nailed" seems to be a bumpy ride.... I hope things work out soon. But I guess this kind of movie doesn't require a long production/shooting period, so hopefully once they resume (again!), they can wrap it up soon.
Haha... I have zero knowledge about videogames, so I don't know how "tanned" Prince of Persia is supposed to be... but actually in ancient times (Persians were the almost first foreigners to start trading with China), Persians weren't that tanned.
I hope this isn't too personal
How much is Jake getting paid for Nailed? a million? Less then 1 million?
Hi Anna (I deleted your duplicate post :)) - the cameras certainly follow Jake about when he's in LA so if he goes back there you may well get your wish :D It is lovely to get new pictures.
Hey Winterbird :D I'm sure that yet again this film will get going and I wouldn't imagine that many more weeks of filming will be required. Then one would imagine they have a bankable asset. But is must be so frustrating for all those concerned - but everyone needs to know they'll get paid (including the brolly and chair holders!).
I've only played the first two games - I was addicted to the first one years ago but I fear my Prince always ended up in the spikey-pit. But Persians have been a varied cultural bunch over the last couple of thousand years with invaders, traders and marauders passing through from both directions.
I knew my years of archaeology in the Near and Middle East would pay off in the end :D I fear that the WDW readers will have to suffer a post on this at some point ;)
Hi Anna - that's an interesting point as Jake has been known to take a paycut for projects he believes in (Rendition, for example). But is Nailed one of those projects? From what Jake has said, money is not a deciding factor for him and an advantage of PoP is that it will give him the financial freedom to appear in films of his choice - including troubled indie movies such as Nailed - as well as help fund and produce other projects. Interesting, thanks Anna.
I refuse to sweat the pantaloons issue. Movies like Prince of Persia are aimed primarily at the male 16 to 34 demo that prefers its male action heroes tough. And no one looks tough in pantaloons. I see leather pants instead, regardless of the fact they wouldn't make for flexibility while running, jumping and whatnot. Average viewers won't pay that much attention to what fabrics characters wear.
Hi JoeAnn :D That is an excellent point and gives me hope... leather would be good. I'm sure they can make it flexible when and where it counts :) You're right, our interest in fabrics is not representative of the movie going public as a whole!
Leather? wouldn't that get rather hot and start to chafe if one is leapng out, saving princesses and such?
Ruby has been on the pop and is unable to type accurately!
I thnk the costume designer for PoP is the same as on Pirates - really dont want to watch any of these I was pretty bored with first one. Must check out her work. Must e-mail her.
Leather pants, he can't go commando in leather pants, you fools! What CAN you be thinking of! ! !
Morocco in July? Leather pants?
second post sorry.
"I knew my years of archaeology in the Near and Middle East would pay off in the end :D"
Can't wait, WDW!
In the meantime I guess I'll research how ancient male Persians, Medes and so forth protected their "favorites" (thanks Paul, I love it. . .) while bounding about the parapets. .
Hey Ruby :D WDW has been on the pop too and so is restricted to very simple sentences. I agree that leather could chafe but Jake can work round that...
Hi Pia! Same dress designer. eh? I did enjoy the first Pirates movie but I loved the costumes in all three - so I see this as good news! Great costumes. Leather in Morocco in July could be a problem, that's true, in fact wearing any clothes in Morocco in July could be a problem, talk about hot :D
Back to the Margaritas.... and thoughts of Jake bounding around parapets. I may put my archaeology hat back on :D
Wow, I love this stuff - costuming is one of my favorite parts of movies, and I love textiles. Speaking of which, the only leather I want to see is some kind of riding boot. He'll need something loose-fitting to be believable doing the parkour - maybe a modified version of chalwar tucked into a boot of some sort. The fabrics could be some kind of silk or satin from trade with the Far East. The clothing would have influences from every direction of the Persian Empire I would guess, but I'm no expert, I'll leave that up to WDW. I can't wait for you to tell us your thoughts! I haven't been able to find much info online about it. And we gotta have that body armor -the forearm cuffs and chest plate possibly . . . *sigh*
Charwal could be nice if done right . . . draping over thighs, butt and other lovely manliness, cut just low enough to highlight taut abs, and in the last step of parkour or climbing off a horse and landing on leather booted feet. :)
WDW, I read recently that a very major discovery was found in the ruins of a palace in what is now known as ancient Persia.
In a royal burial tomb, they found the bones of an old, elderly Prince...with short dark hair!...clad in black spandex!
They haven't released the news yet to the public, but nevertheless...I'm sure even your own archaeological research has determined that the Persians were great scientists and very advanced!
If the Persians were among the first to trade with the Chinese (Over the Silk Roads, of course; I remember attending my nephew's induction into Phi beta Kappa, and the keynote lecture was on the Silk Roads. Oh, my!...), then silk could have been what a Prince would wear.... I would not mind seeing Jake's character clothed in silk.
Back from Indiana Jones pic. Lottsa fun. Karen Allen lives in next town to mine, designs knitwear, has a shop, so I suspect some of applause after the film was because of a home girl.
O gosh is Prince of Persia gonna attract this demographic of boy kiddos with braces, there were hoardes of 'em.
Hey, I seem to be the only one that started salivating at the thought of Jake in nice and tight laced leather pants...
I have no idea what charwal is or what it looks like...
LOL at bobbyanna's discovery of a prince in black spandex!
And LOL at pia's boy kiddos with braces... That will be kind of awkward when we all are sitting there drooling next to little kids... They will get scared: "Mom, what's wrong with the old lady next to me?" Just imagine the shock when they discover that their mothers will be in the exact same state as the old ladies (and gents... ;)) next to them...
Oh, I so hope they get back on track with Nailed. How frustrating must that be for everyone involved. You really start to wonder if that movie will ever see the light of day...
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Morning everyone! And it's a holidaye :D
Lovely comments, thank you - I absolutely love all this talk of sumptuous fabrics - I can see Jake in vibrant draping silks (with leather boots of course). Of course Prince Dastan starts of as an impoverished prince (clearly meaning fewer clothes) but I can still see him with some fashion of armbands etc. No doubt by the end he will be in the full regalia of an ancient Persian prince...
Oh I could talk about this all day :D
Hi Anon (0:05)! Thanks for that great statement - I'm really into all that too and the costume designer wil really be able to go to town - there could also be some interesting twists on the history books. (I loved the costume design in Knight's Tale and Marie Antoinette.) Loving the body armour :D
Hi Anon (0:39)! I've been looking up charwal and other types of draped garments and Jake would look amazing in them! And the possibilities with colour too. The leather boots are essential :D
Hey Bobbyanna, that is hysterical! But I'm sure entirely true - I hear that Nike was very popular amongst the nomadic peoples of Persia. Practical.
Hi Paul :D I can definitely see Jake in silk and lots of it, in gorgeous colours.
Hey Pia! I'm glad you enjoyed the film and that it got a good reception. I can't wait to see it tomorrow - we've a weather warning for torrential rain tomorrow so it's perfect Indiana Jones at the cinema weather.
Hi Uli! (how lovely to see the avvie again ;D) Jake in tight leather is definitely worth considering, I just think it may be too hot for that kind of thing. And too sandy.
The kids are going to have to make way for us at PoP. The thought occurs to me that there could be some swooning young girls in the theatres... It's ben a while since Jake did a film with a younger certificate.
Me too about Nailed. I'm sure we will get to see it but at this rate it'll be totally overshadowed by its drawn out and painful creation. I'm sure everyone involved will be relieved when it's done.
Have a good day everyone!
