Jake - 'Can I go back and do my part over again?'

According to Variety, Nailed may be back up and running today for its last push before the next uphill struggle - getting the film put together, distributed and onto our screens. Only two days are left for filming, although probably without Jake Gyllenhaal who has probably reached that happy stage where he can put Nailed behind him. The last shooting will cover a key restaurant scene. Incidentally, a poster on IMDb has said that Jake's character's name in Nailed is not Howard Ryder but Howard Birdwell, which, if it's true, sounds a little better.

When Anne Hathaway arrived at the Australian premiere of Get Smart on the Gold Coast this week, her thoughts were also on the role that gave her confidence as an actress:

'But there was one other role she considers a personal breakthrough - playing Jake Gyllenhaal's wife in Brokeback Mountain. Hathaway said she had sobbed for an hour after seeing the film. "That was the film that I decided I wanted to be an actor," she said. "I didn't know if I had the chops for it. It was the first time I really came up against my own limitations and surpassed them. I remember thinking if this possible once, it's possible again and it's worth spending the rest of my life trying to get back to this place. Before then, I was having a lot of fun acting but it didn't feel inevitable."'

Talking of Jake's co-stars, and how actors can grow from particular roles or from working with particular actors, I liked this tribute from Jake to Peter Sarsgaard, regarding working with the older actor on Jarhead: 'Gyllenhaal was left in awe. "I spent the whole movie going, 'Is Peter just lazy? Does he care to be here?' "Gyllenhaal says. "And in that remarkable big moment, the crux of the film, I sat there after three or four takes, all phenomenal, and I shook my head. You could see all the dominoes that he'd lined up, in his performance, up to then. He knocked them over, and I was like, 'Whoa. What? Can I go back and do my part over again? From the start?' You never know what he's doing. But he's just lining up the dominoes."'

I couldn't wait for this workday to be over. Hiya WDW. How wonderful to meet you and so many extraordinary people, I was amazed at how 'normal' we all were. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect but it was a plesant surprise - a wet, dark and wild weekend indeed :DD.

There is no bigger word than 'thank you' that I can think of, so, thank you Kate for your hospitality. (Now go lie down with a cold towel, Pims, BBM dvd and don't move for a week - work will understand :DD).

"please, friends, share your emotions!

xxxx"

Ok, I'm going to be honest. Partway through Sunday I nearly got in my car to drive back home before the screening. The emotions began to overwhelm me. But I was 'headed off at the pass' by another 'Brokie' that convinced me to stay (unbeknown to him). That was a truly emotional experience watching it with people you didn't have to explain a thing to. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I'm terrible with names so those of you I met - sorry I didn't get enough time with you all - the getting to know you process is always difficult. If I have one tiny - no, actually - major complaint..... there wasn't enough Jaking (never enough time... never enough).

Hi Sheba! So glad you're home safe. Thanks for coming :D I know how emotional it is and I was lucky because I've known many of the people there for quite some time. I am exhausted!

I'm glad you didn't drive home before the film - so, good on that Brokie for talking you out of it. But never enough Jaking! And thank you for the Pimms :D

Anne Hathaway nails her part in "Get Smart." One critic said that she dominates each scene she's in without even trying.

Peter Sarsgaard isn't into scene-stealing, because he is so low-key. But there's a ferocious intelligence in his acting. I always look forward to seeing him in new movies. He was terrific in "Year of the Dog."

Hi Paul - good to see you. I'm going to enjoy catching up with what everyone's been up to. I love Anne and I'm looking forward to seeing her in this - I've heard nothing but good. As for Peter, he can do no wrong in my eyes - he's a great role model for Jake. I haven't seen Year of the Dog yet.

ITA, Peter can do no wrong.

Flying by to say hi to you WDW, and Sheba ... us, normal? ;)

Hi Nouskie! Some of us may be more 'normal' than others ;)

Hey all,

Thank you Sheba and everyone who attended the Brokie weekend for sharing your feelings with us. ((())) to you all.

Peter is fantastic. Have loved Peter and his acting for a long time now. I think Peter and Jake can do no wrong and have such an amazing chemistry together on and off screen. Adore them both.

Oh glad you enjoyed the Brokie get-together. It sounds like something really wonderful to do.

I adore Anne Hathaway too, looking forward to seeing Get Smart. Ennis and Jack had a tragic love; but the Brokeback wives is a whole 'nother storythe collateral damage of society's intolerance. Anne's Lureen was so fiery and full of life at the beginning, and to see all that drain from her as her life went on was very tragic indeed. :( She was great in it.

Glad you all were able to watch BBM together, in what sounds like a beautiful theater. :)

Hi Get Real - I would love to see Jake and Peter act on stage together :)

Hey Bertie! - when I watch the film now, I think more about Lureen especially. I'm also amazed at how young these actresses are. Anne deserved an Oscar nomination for the phonecall scene.

LOL. Hi Anouska great to meet you. I think my definition is much broader than most.
Hiya Get Real, good to meet you too and share this weekend. Great to put a name to the face.

Bertie... wish you were there..

You would not believe how long I've been trying to post this comment. Already, the interrogation into my 'lost weekend' has begun - the phone hasn't stopped. Back to reality with a bang... oh well.

Ann acted out of her skin in BBM. She has good comedic timing and is also self-depricating like Jake. Hopefully she will get the roles she deserves. As for Peter, I'd like to watch that movie he did with Maggie - that's next on the list.

Sheba, I actually wasn't in Oxford with you. Hope there wasn't someoene going around as Get Real. :p :/

Glad you met so many wonderful people there. Hope to meet you though some day. :)

Haha, oops...Well someone was 'getting real' with me on Saturday... Sorry for the mix-up - anyway, Wet Dark and Wild were all there in spirit - I talked about it enough so hopefully more people will discover what we have here ;D. And this experience made me realise that I can do this... just up and go on my instincts. Very sweet people I met and look forward to more meet-ups with you guys :D

Sorry to hijack this thread... back to Jake. How cool to have someone like Peter as a brother-in-law and someone you can trust in that industry. Even though 10 years older than Jake, it seems Peter tends to bring out the mischevious side of Jake.

Ok, enough of me putting off work. Night, night all. Can't wait to see the pics and hear the reports of the event... even though I was there, I still feel I missed big chunks of important info - not anyone's fault, there was just too much going on in little pockets of Oxford.

Morning everyone! Back to work with a big bad thud - and a very sunburnt nose - like a beacon.

Good to see you Sheba and Get Real :D

Catch up with you all later - I need to put icecream on my nose...

Morning everyone, nice day out there again.

Hey Sheba! So glad to have met you in Oxford :)

You know what they say: if loving Jake/Jaking is abnormal, then I don't want to be normal! lol...

love Peter's way of acting. He's the king of subtlety :)

Nice to have you back all you beloved Jake/Brokeback lovers...I'm green with envy but notheless happy that you got to meet each-other and live a wonderful experience as bringing a dream, a vision back to life...a big hug to all of you...:*

I like Peter's lazy non-lachant way of acting...I think he's one of those actors who doesn't take himself too seriously and this is very healthy, expecially in the 'mad world' that Hollywood seems to be.

Great day to WDW and everyone.:)

Hi there Winterbird! Another beautiful day - I should be by that river eating fish and chips again... I never got bored of pointing out to Brokies where I saw Peter! Everyone was very patient with me :D

Good to see you Xenia! I think Peter has a very healthy attitude towards his job and his environment. I like the mix of roles he does too.

Hope everyone's having a good day :D

G'morning sweetpeeps.

Singin' in the shower this morning:

All or nothing at all
Half a love, never appealed to me
If your heart, never could yield to me
Then Id rather (rather) have nothing at all

All or nothing at all
If its love, there is no in between
Why begin then cry, for something that might have been
No Id rather (rather) have nothing at all

But please dont bring your lips so close to my cheek
Dont smile or Ill be lost beyond recall
The kiss in your eyes, the touch of your hand makes me weak
And my heart may go dizzy and fall

And if I fell (I fell) under the spell of your call
I would be, caught in the undertow
So you see, Ive got to say no, no
All or nothing at all...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Pia! in fine voice today, I like the sound of a full, dizzy heart xx

When you think about the variety of roles that Anne Hathaway has tackled (princess, cowgirl, regency English authoress, contemporary editor's assistant in a fashion magazine, spy. etc.), you have to give her high grades for trying to stretch herself.
And, she hasn't made any serious gaffes with any of those roles. Critics, by and large, have found her performances plausible....
