While all has gone quiet on the Jake front again - no doubt he's brushing up on his parkour and trying to make amends for a weekend of crepes - Maggie Gyllenhaal has more than made up for it. Hot on the heels of her appearance on the Late Show with Letterman, Maggie has just completed her stint on the obligatory Regis and Kelly and thanks to Pop Crunch we can already see the interview ourselves.
Here is a video of Maggie outside the studio.

Maggie has also been talking some more about Heath Ledger: 'I knew him some before we did the movie together (her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, co-starred with Ledger in ‘Brokeback Mountain’). Heath hit a stride that was absolutely free, which is rare for an actor. The scene I did with him was very scary and full of tension and horrible in a lot of ways. But I actually had such a blast shooting it with him because anything I did, he would roll with me, and he threw all sorts of things at me.'
Meanwhile, according to Variety, Maggie has signed on to star with Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall in 'the music-based drama "Crazy Heart" for CMT Films and Informant Media. Scott Cooper wrote and will helm the film, which is based on the debut novel by Thomas Cobb. Story centers on a down-on-his-luck, alcoholic country music singer (Bridges) who is able to get his life and career back on track through his relationship and experiences with a female reporter (Gyllenhaal).' This sounds like Maggie will be able to film closer to film and family than she would have done in South Solitary, which is to film in Tasmania.
The Prince
But what about Jake...? Variety also reports that, with fears of a screen actors' strike 'Studios have decided to sit out the summer, and the fall, for that matter. There are a few exceptions: Sony just began production on the Roland Emmerich-directed "2012," Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer expect to begin production in Morocco on "Prince of Persia" on July 24, and Universal is set to push the start button Aug. 19 on the Ridley Scott-directed Russell Crowe starrer "Nottingham" in London.' So July 24, a week today.
Things are getting ready to go in Morocco and it's hot! One of the last places I expected to find information on the Prince of Persia shoot was Leek, Staffordshire (and I can say that as I have very close family there - I can also report that Leek has more speed cameras than any other place in the world) but it turns out that a sculptor from Leek, Robert Bean, has just returned from his stint on the Moroccan set and it was hot, damn hot. He's now back at Pinewood - presumably the other place where scenes are to be shot - finishing the set there:
'As a freelance polystyrene carver and model maker, his work involved sculpting models of the the full-scale sets which decorate the film, which will star Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. The former Leek High School pupil and Leek College of Art student said: "It may sound glamorous, but in reality, working on an industrial site on the outskirts of Marrakesh wasn't easy. Temperatures hit 45C daily and after a month of that, it was a bit of a relief to return to the UK and this awful wet summer. The Prince of Persia, like Tomb Raider, is based on a successful computer game and as you would imagine, that leaves great scope for set designers and sculptors alike." The 42-year-old is currently working back at Pinewood Studios finishing various scenic pieces for the film.'
And with my mind on the Prince, a big thanks to Zodiac for links to the amazing HD trailer for the new Prince of Persia game (the source of the stills here). This may be something different from Jake's prince but it does give us a flavour of the feeling and passion and beauty behind the whole franchise. Give in to it and enjoy!

Thanks for the Maggie video, WDW. We like her. :)
Mr R just came home all excited after seeing Martha Wainwright play a short set in Borders. He has an autographed CD cover and a photo with her. She was really nice.
Hi Rubes :D We do like her. Glad you liked the vid. That is so fab about Mr R and Martha!
I'm trying to compare the production paintings with the pictures of the trailer... It should look damned great.
Wise decision of Jerry Bruckheimer. I guess it had been in another report that a strike is expected later this year - whatever this means. Fingers are tightly crossed that they'll make an agreement and/or wait with the damned strike till the shooting of PoP is done.
Thinking of the degrees in Morocco... I stay here were it's cool and rainy. :o)

Hi T! I think these images are just stunning for the new game - the landscapes, action, magic and music. Love the whole atmosphere.
I agree about the decision to push on and film - it makes sense to me (who knows nothing!) for these big summer movies to just get on with it rather than get snared up in delays etc waiting for when a strike might happen. I suppose it's not such a big risk for studios such as Disney.
Jake will appreciate the London summer after Morocco :D
I adore Maggie. She is so graceful. Letterman loves the Gyllenhaals, clearly!!!
Watching her with Regis and Kelly, was hard, because she was clearly having a hard time talking about Heath. I wanted to hug her. She said just the right thing, too. I love her honesty and yet, she was very guarded about Heath's privacy, not talking about their personal relationship, though there clearly was one.
Hi Anon! The Gyllenhaals have come a long way since the early days when he got their surname wrong :) Maggie is wonderfully dignified. I've not been able to see all of the Regis interview yet as my PC is playing up, so I just have to look forward to seeing it tomorrow.
Does anyone know how we can watch the music videos that Heath directed? I have seen two for N'fa, Heath's friend. They were awesome. I also saw one for Ben Harper's Morning Yearning, but he did two for Ben Harper and I think there are two or three more out there. One is for Grace Woodroofe and Todd Haynes was very impressed with his work and said so at the Independent Spirit awards, but how can regular people see them?
I know this probably is not the place, but I am feeling kind of down and I would like to know more about his other work. It seems like these past six months we are learning so much about him and it makes the loss even greater.
Thanks for letting me post this.
Hi Anon - there will always be plenty of room here to talk about Heath, it's important to me too. I didn't know about these projects and I'd love to know more about them. Hopefully someone will be able to answer your questions, I'd like to know too. If I find them I'll post them. Good to hear from you.
Morning Yearning is absolutely beautiful. There's also a song that Ben apparently wrote for Matilda- Happy Ever After in Your Eyes. Is that true, anon?

P.S.Thanks, WDW, I'm going to write to you about the game at the weekend.
Anon (22:53), I hope someone will put the rest of Heath's music videos on youtube, like the one for Nick Drake. There are bits and pieces of the Drake video with scenes fans added to them, but not the whole thing.
Heath was going to take some time off from filming to direct, the project he wanted to direct after the Gilliam flick was "Queen's Gambit" and he talked to this "Juno" actress to play the female lead and I think she agreed.
WDW, thanks for the updates. Maggie looks pretty as usual.
Zodiac, yes as far as I know Ben wrote this song for Matilda. :)

Terrific (and poetic)review of TDK for NYTimes tomorrow by Manohla Dargis, on-line now.
Hi everyone! I just came back from the movies, and I gotta say that Heath performance in the Dark Knight is brilliant! I went to see it with my friends and we all agreed on that he made batman look as a secondary part. I went into the cinema with Jack Nicholson's character in mind, and went out of it thinking there's absolutly no way to top Heath's performance.
Just wanted to share this with you.
Morning everyone :)
Thanks very much Sandy and Zodiac for all this information on a side of Heath I know far too little about. I look forward to your email Zodiac :D
Thanks for the link, Pia :)
Hi Jazzzy! That's fab, thanks so much for sharing that. I can't wait to see it for myself, but there's a while to wait over here. But so worth the wait!
Morning!
I read a very good review of TDK from Rolling Stone as well. That mag just adores Heath...
Maggie looks fab!
Morning Winterbird! I love Rolling Stone for their continued support of Heath. I'm afraid of reading reviews though in case they say something spoilery. I've been linking and not reading :D Maggie definitely looks fab!
Maggie never looked too similar to his brother IMO, but her way to talk, that seductive smooth way she has with the interviewer, her kindness too, is definetely even Jake's...what a charmer! I love her!
And her emotions were tangible during the Regis&Kelly interview...
Oh and, on a lighter note, visions of an all-sweaty Jake on a Moroccan set brings back happy memories to me! ;)
Have a great day WDW and everyone! :)
hey,
Friday at last. It felt like a long time coming.
I still have my 'Lonesome Cowboy' Rolling Stone edition with Heath. Had hoped to get it signed one day. *sigh*
I too am wary of spoilers so not reading reviews. I hope our US friends will be kind and not tease us too much! :-D
Hi there Xenia :D You're right - seductive is a good way to put it and they do share that. And both very sexy. Sweaty Jake :P!
Hey Rubes :) A long time coming. Good to see you.
Heads up to Brits here - the Mirror has a free TDK poster in it today and tomorrow has a TDK 'goody bag'
Peter Travis of Rolling Stone does love Heath and Jake. His review of BBM was effusive just as it is for TDK. I am not suggesting in anyway that the accolades are undeserved, only that Peter seems to be a huge fan of both young men and their work. He "gets it!"
Hi Anon :) Thanks very much for that. It's good when journalists like that 'get' Jake and Heath.
I have that Rolling Stone copy too, Ruby!
I know the Chief Editor of Rolling Stone changed that issue's cover to Heath, after BBM lost the Best Picture. He's a real fan.
"Old Man River" tattooed on Heath's wrist... *sighs*
Hi, all! Great posts -- absolutely LOVE Maggie. Classy lady. Letterman seemed in awe of her. Understandable.
I must point out that it's apparently Jeff Bridges, not Jeff Daniels, who will be in Crazy Heart. Just so you know.
Oops -- that "beck" is me.
how good to see you, beckela!
Hi Winterbird - I have that too :D
Hey Beckela, good to see you! Thank you for the hug and kiss that I got from you via Debbie at the Oxford Brokie gathering xxx
And thanks for sorting out the Jeffs - I ALWAYS get them muddled up!
Morning Pia :D
Hi everyone,
This is one link to the many placed trailers to the new PoP game - the one which had been released first.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKKe0NpatU0
WDW - in case you wanna play it - maybe you should visit some kind of bootcamp first to get the practice not to *kill* the Prince too often. :o)
T.
I saw Jeff Bridges in The Fabulous Baker Boys last night and was picturing Jake in that role...very sexy!
Hey Pia, WDW and everyone! WDW, I do wish I could have been there to give you that hug and kiss myself. Maybe next year.
I get the Bridges boys confused, myself. They are all great -- and Jeff is fantastic in Iron Man. Totally unrecognizable! He was wonderful in The Baker Boys, too, of course, and, yes, I could see Jake in that role a few years from now. But then, I could pretty much see Jake in ANY role!
Hi T! I definitely have to pracice - my Prince is too often a goner...
Hey anon - I can see Jake in that role too. A good film :D
That would be wonderful Beckela :) Jeff was fantastic in Iron Man!
Hope everyone's settling down to a good Friday afternoon/evening :D
I would be more than happy to see *both* Jeffs in any movie. I never thought Jeff Daniels got the credit he deserved. Even in "Dumb and Dumber," he was paid way less than Jim Carrey. It's funny that Robert Duval would be in a movie about a burned-out country singer (he played a burned out country singer in "Tender Mercies" many years ago), but it will be nice to see Jeff Bridges give it a try.
I hope to see "The Dark Knight" tonight (when the night will be dark), but I have a doctor's appointment first....
