The Prince of Persia's evil Vizier tells us we're in for 'something beautiful' - and Maggie's in Japan

The Prince of Persia may be a year off our theatre screens but we are very lucky to have all these little snippets of information and tantalising glimpses of what is in store. And today there is more. The dastardly Vizier Nizam himself - aka Ben Kingsley - has been talking to Empire about his summer job, which involves this guy:

It sounds like Ben has been doing some serious brushing up on his videogame knowledge - a bit like Robert Downey Jr and Maggie Gyllenhaal on superheroes and it's so good to hear Ben describe how the project is coming together in a manner that is 'quite beautiful': 'We’re bringing to it all the scrutiny that a great myth would deserve... It’s quite wonderful being around the table discussing the video game – which I’m aware of but don’t know anything about.'

'It’s really quite beautiful how it's building up with all our actors, with the writers sitting there, with the director sitting there, it’s really holding up very well. Most of my stuff is with Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays the Prince (Dastan), and I’m a father figure who lets him down very, very badly in the film. I’m the villain actually. It’s interesting because his own father dies early in the film and I take over and I’m completely manipulative.'

'Well, it’s really lovely to be working on something that is obviously hugely popular... Jerry Bruckheimer, who did Pirates Of The Caribbean, obviously knows what he’s doing and Mike Newell is a wonderful director. You know that patronising attitude that some film-makers have where they dismiss people as a stupid audience? Well, Mike isn’t going to do that, he’s going to give them something beautiful.' And when you have an audience full of Gyllenhaalics, they're going to be ready for that 'something beautiful'.

The Dark Knight reaches Japan

Meanwhile, Maggie and others from The Dark Knight have reached Tokyo and, yet again, Maggie is a stunner, this time in a striking orange dress by Jean Paul Gaultier. Incidentally, in this first picture, the guy second from the left is the man we could not identify at the London premiere a week ago today, so if anyone knows who he is, I know I'd like to know.

In this video, you can see Maggie on the theatre stage discussing the film and her character. This looks like a very different affair to the London event.

Includes pictures from IHJ and Just Jared.

Hiya,

And three more weeks till TDK will reach Germany. But we finally decided not to watch it on the big screen after watching the German trailer. They tried their best but it's not the same - Heath's voice is soooo much better. I know I have to prove some more patience - a good training for PoP. :o)

I know it's even hotter in Morocco but the the 32°C we have here are more than enough and they've forecasted even higher temperatures for Friday. I hope Jake and all others have a nice place with an A/C to cool down ... something I don't have. :o(

Back to my icy Gin-Tonic - at least it helps just a bit since I forgot to get some more ice cream.

Hi T! Flippin hot here - well sticky and muggy. I had a lunch of icecream today while walking round the park. Out of gin :( I hope Jake has a/c too and then he can invite us round to 'cool' off.

I think if dubbing is the choice, I'd wait for the DVD too - they're so quickly out these days.

Good to see you :D

Flipping hot in Poland as well.

14% of PoP completed after all this playing. It's going to take me a year to reach the end, right until the premiere day. Today I've actually reached the point where he meets his father who is now a monster and the father tries to kill him. Successfully. It's funny WDW, how your posting on the blog about PoP coincides with my movement further into the game:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Zodiac :D Blimey, is that only 14% of the way through? We're gonna still be playing when the Joe Namath movie is in the theatres at this rate... I wonder what level Jake's reached :D Too hot to play videogames tonight though.

Flipping hot in London too. I wonder will anyone post who isn't flipping hot today?

Great Ben Kingsley interview, WDW :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Nouskie :D It is a good interview, isn't it? I'm coming round to Sir Ben now... Someone's gotta feel cool, at least in those parts that have a/c. Maybe in Morocco they're ging through a cold spell :D

Anonymous said...

Yep I have read things ... but he sounds pretty nice here ;)

OMG!!! I'm not even at 14% :O(
I hope to finish it before the movie is released...
Do you think we will have a movie-based PoP game next year? With Jake's voice maybe?

Gorgeous Mag in Tokyo, although I would have preferred the Chinese gown a wee bit longer, knees are among the least gorgeous part of the body, although Im willing to do Jake scan WDW -

My but Jake has had and continues to have alot of opportunity to work out his "father stuff" - TDAT, MM, BBmt, Brothers - and here we go again! Jake and Ben K., tee hee hee! Life is a cabaret, indeed!

Weather between thunder storms is gorgeous. friend got washed out of a folk music festival in a field this past week, hail knocking out the sound system, tents collapsing, and audience being evacuated to a nearby farmer's barn! today was beautiful! humming birds zipping past, clouds that looked like Jake, etcetcetc.

There's thunder and lightening here now; and a few hailstones. Flipping hot and noisy. :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

He does, Anouska, I'm being won over :)

Hi Sara! Good to see you again. I'm not at 14% either... It would be great having Jake doing the voice for a future game - it ould happen :D

Hey Pia :D I do like this dress of Maggie's actually, a change from the black and I think she looks great in it. That's not a colour many could get away with. I like Jake's knees :D

I like that about the father issues - going to be lots of those in PoP. Sounds like the Vizer is going to prove a handful for Jake.

That sounds like normal weather for a music festival in these parts :D

Hi Ruby :D Thunder and hail! And you're not far from me - I'm running for cover!

Anonymous said...

Yeah I really love the idea of Jake being in a power struggle with Sir Ben! tee hee hee!

& Ruby d'you think we're in for hailstones, locusts and frogs? (famous English holiday pier burning!) are we supposed to repent, or what?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Pia - and a pier on the south English coast was on fire this morning. I'm off for a bit because Ruby has brought the storm over this way and there is huge thunder and lightning going on out there!! Run away!

Ruby said...

If we're gonna get locusts, I'd best shut the windows. Or maybe there'll be toads. ;-)

Storm has passed now. Heading south I think WDW, so you might be ok.

Ruby said...

Oh, I was wrong it went north. never did have much sense of direction. :/

One of my aliases since I discovered The Joker! ;)

I loved the interview with Sir Ben, sounds like PoP is going to be quite a story. Love Maggie's Asian inspired dress - love the mandarin collar and cap sleeves, and the color. And, love the 4th pic of Jake in today's post - he's blessed with a gorgeous hairline, isn't he? And knees - remember the scene in Rendition where he's sitting in the bar, at the low table with his knees apart - you can see that gorgeous manly thigh and knee. It's in one of WDW's earlier posts. Sorry - don't get me free associating. ;)

That bit about Ben Kingsley being the evil father figure after the Prince's real father dies sounds like The Lion King! :D Only 50-odd weeks to go...

Love Maggie's dress and shoes, but I hope she didn't have to stand there answering questions for too long, in those heels!!

I thought the storm was supposed to be heading South, or maybe we're getting a different one??? I hope so, it's way too hot. At least there's a tub of Ben & Jerry's in the freezer, with my name on it;D

Anonymous said...

o gosh bk, have to go watch Rendition!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Phew - looks like the storm is passing off to the east. The temperature cooled off for 5 minutes and is now back to hot mugginess again. I don't want to have locusts raining on my windows, and no toads please... you can have 'em, Rubes :D

Hey BK! Free associate away :D Especially when it concerns the marvels that are Jake's knees. I love that scene in the bar in Rendition. And I also love this dress of Maggie's - possibly my favourite from the TDK red carpet tour.

Hi TL! I didn't comment on Maggie's shoes because work colleagues have told me I have very odd ideas about shoes and that not every girl needs to wear Nike and Converses all the time. But even so - these are so high, I worry for the safety of the feet in them!

Ben & Jerry's? Yum. Please save me some. I've had too much icecream this week but I'm going to be ready to go to eat more tomorrow :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Pia! Me too... :P I've been meaning to see that again for a while.

toads, no problem. just don't touch 'em.

my favorite Mag gown is from Barcelona.

I just got a good look at Maggie's shoes - like an updated 1940s shoe, and the dress and hairstyle too - very vintage glamour. She does that well! I've liked all of what she's worn for the premieres, each has had something unique about it - the ultra low back on her dress the NY premiere, the dress in Barcelona, and this one for Tokyo.

Love the pic of Jake and the horse, btw. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! What a stormy night, but fortunately no toads, but I have got another big puddle in my car.

Morning Pia :D I think I'll stick my neck out and say that although I've loved all Maggie's red carpet gowns all - and the London one's extra special as I saw her in it - my fave is the Tokyo one.

Hi BK! Amazing shoes, aren't they? You'd have thought the heels would get stuck... I love that pic of Jake and the horse. I've been having some fun uploading photos back onto my laptop and I've been rediscovering some old favourites.

Have a great day everyone :D

Hey WDW and everyone!

Wow, I like the direction PoP is taking, a stunning magnificent show with some deepness in it and beautiful Jake making us all sigh...mmmm very good...;)

I confess I tried to buy a pair of shoes like Maggie's one but at the end I found them unwearable and left them where they were...;)

Have a great day!:)

I like this dress because it reminds me of the Qi Pao - probably one of the sexiest dresses known to woman (and man) IMO. The design has a bit of that influence to me, and that old HW glamour from that era, the 30s or 40s. It became, I think, the national dress of Hong Kong for women, and where part of TDK takes place in Hong Kong, I think it's nice for the Asia premiere. That scene of Victoria Harbor is to die for. And the shoes, I love them. I wouldn't be able to walk in them, but I love them. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Xenia :D The more I hear about PoP, the more I love it and the more impatient I get for it! I couldn't walk in those shoes of Maggie's if they were the last shoes in the world. She is so tall and elegant, which is not something I'd really appreciated before, especially when comparing with Sherrybaby.

Hope you're having a good day!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi anon! Posting at the same time :) I definitely agree that this dress looks so good for the Tokyo premiere. Maggie's outfits have all been so elegant and they remind me of old HWood too.

"What a stormy night, but fortunately no toads, but I have got another big puddle in my car.

Did you mean under your car or actually inside?! Oh dear WDW, sorry to hear that. Guess the hair-dryer's coming out this afternoon :o(.

Looks like the thunder and lightning is still going to be about. I stayed up last night listening to the rain, thunder and lightning and I felt so at peace, it was wonderful :DD

His Royal Hotness is nowhere to be seen but still sending temperatures soaring at the thought of very little clothing, long flowing hair, intense and soulful gazes and fancy footwork. *Deep sigh*

Ben will bring an intense realism to the part and Jake will rise to it, dispelling all the doubters. Is the full title Prince of Persia: Sands of Time or does anyone know if they will involve scenarios from 2 and 3 as well? I wonder if Jake will have a combination of all three looks or if it will be focused on 1.

Its a good day, rich blessing to you all xx

^^Sorry, WDW, the Tokyo premiere. I don't mean to give the impression that I don't think they are two distinct, unique and absolutely gorgeous cultures, just that some design elements may cross cultural borders, like many things. I just like fashion and costumes, and I like Maggie's view of it, it's fun, it's art, but not your entire life. :)

I love the fact that Jordan Mechner is taking his inspriation from the Book of Kings, the Shahnameh, for the PoP story. I hope we keep getting these snippets, and a little peek at Jake in his princely finery. :)

We've been having crazy weather too - thunderstorms, which I love and find energizing and peaceful, and driving home much to my surprise there was a tornado warning the other day - passed us by and got home safely. Flippin' hot the rest of the time for us as well. ;)

His Royal Hotness
What a perfect nickname!!!

While Pia is repenting, I'm going to sneak a peak at the sky, to see if those clouds that look like Jake are still there. ;-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba! No, I meant inside so the ducks may be moving back in. Mr WDW thinks I should keep fish in there. Just the thought of Jake in his royal garb with flowing locks - sigh - doing nothing to lower the temperature round here :D I recall that Bruckheimer said it was about just the first game but I'm hoping that the prince's look will be more in tune with the prince of the forthcoming game :)

I'm so glad to hear you're having such a good day :D

Hi Anon! I agree, Maggie's use of fashion is such an exciting one and I definitely agree with the crossing cultures. Maggie's not a clotheshorse and she clearly puts a lot of thought into her clothes and she does wear them like costumes almost.

Twisters?! Do take care with those. We've had warnings of 'funnel clouds'. I'm not good with stormy weather, although I got caught in a little shower today that was so pleasant, like a chilled spray for a few minutes.

Hey Sara! That's a great name for Jake :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Paul - if you see any clouds looking like Jake, do send 'em my way :D

Thank you WDW for this new post, I have to say in the beginning I was quite sceptical about this movie, but now the more I read about it, the more I'm curious to know and most of all to see it!

Sorry for going OT here, as promised I've kept the Venice Film Festival website checked, and I'm sorry to say there's no "Brothers" in sight, I've had a quick look (I'm at work and had to do it as quick as possible not to be caught by the boss :P) at the movies in and out of competition, and I'd say it's not there.
Http://www.labiennale.org/en/cinema/ this is the link if you guys want to have a more careful look at it or see if there's some movie that might interest you anyway :);)

Well, fingers crossed for Toronto and Rome :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Good Girl :D Thanks very much for checking that for us - we'll have to see what happens at the other festivals.

Anonymous said...

You got the headline wrong, WDW. ;)
The Prince of Persia's evil vizier is in for something beautiful. We already know. ;)

I think Brothers will screen at TIFF. It's just a feeling.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon :D He certainly is, the lucky devil! Fingers crossed for TIFF (and London). That would be so good.

Just feel the need to yell at Microsoft for a second - aaggghhhh - feel better for that... thanks :D

paulh said...

If we all yelled at Microsoft at the same moment, do you think they would hear us? ;-)

I would love it if "Brothers" screened at the Toronto Film Festival. That's almost close enough for me to attend....

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Paul - it's worth a go! And yell at Blogger too please, they've made tonight's post bloody difficult and extremely time consuming!
