Sultry and sexy and edgy - charming, articulate and twinkly - magical

Maggie graces the cover of the Sunday Times' Style magazine today, under the headline 'Girlfriend: Why we all fall for Maggie Gyllenhaal'. You can read the full article and interview with the 'charming, articulate and twinkly' Maggie (over some blackened cod) here and I've scanned the images for you below. In one of these pictures, Maggie looks like she's being hugged by a hundred giant centipedes - brrr....

For a taste of the Gyllenfrost that accompanies a mention in an interview of Maggie's brother having acted with Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain, watch this interview with Harry Smith for the Early Show that took place this week.

Although it's early days, The Dark Knight is a record breaker at the United States box office, beating the opening day record of Spider-Man 3 and placing Spidey's opening weekend record in jeopardy.

Updated to add that The Dark Knight has indeed smashed the previous opening weekend record, making Hollywood history!

And now it's the turn of Europe - hold on to your capes because tomorrow the Batman circus reaches London Town and Leicester Square!

Gemma and Toby get ready for PoP

Thanks to Jodi for the heads up that Gemma Arterton is in the August edition of Total Film, accompanied by a brief Q&A on the Prince of Persia. It turns out that Gemma is not the only PoP co-star to feature. The article is about Guy Ritchie's Rocknrolla, which stars Gemma and Toby Kebbell, both of whom have roles in PoP. Incidentally, the fine photographs in this entire feature were 'directed' by Ritchie himself. I've attached the scans here.

Toby describes his involvement in PoP - a world away from Rocknrolla - as 'just a bit of good gas' and says: 'We're literally doing costume and make-up tests and we've been doing horse riding in Spain... So yeah, Ive got a very glamorous life going on at the moment, I'm very blessed.'

Despite the horseriding practice with Jake in England earlier this month, Gemma has also been riding in Spain for PoP: 'It was the most fantastic, amazing experience.' She goes on to say that PoP has 'got a real sultry feel to it... It's just where it's set and the costumes and everything but it's quite sultry and sexy and edgy. But there's loads of action and quite a lot of humour. My character's absolutely brilliant! [Laughs] She's a really cool character.'

Gemma had met most of the Brits involved but, at the time of the interview, had not met Jake Gyllenhaal yet, even though, '... Jake and I are like together all the time. We play 'love interests' [Giggles]'. All suggesting that Jake and Gemma didn't do a screentest together for Gemma's selection process. Oh to be a fly on the minaret during this filming...

And talking of horseriding...

Magical

In the same edition of Total Film, I came across this short article on Heath's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus', in which Terry Gilliam aims 'to touch people's hearts... as Heath was able to do.'

Includes pictures from IHJ, links and WDW scans from Total Film and Style.

WDW, I just found this on Google News from Reuters:
"The new Batman movie "The Dark Knight" smashed the weekend record set by "Spider-Man 3" last year, selling an estimated $155.3 million worth of tickets during its first three days of release across the United States and Canada, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said on Sunday."

Anon! That's fantastic! Thanks very much for that. What an achievement - and to have both Heath and Maggie in such a successful and popular film, it's just wonderful! Thanks :D

I didn't think Maggie was frosty or cold in that clip talking about Heath. She comes across as careful/guarded in what she says about him; always respectful though avoiding the personal and stressing Heath as actor. I don't find that wrong.

Very pleased with TDK's huge success.

Hi Narcissa - good to see you! I think Maggie handles questions about Heath with a great deal of class. It's just wonderful seeing the box office figures :D

I think Maggie is clearly still very upset by the loss of a good friend. She is also protective of his prviacy. But she remained cordial and upbeat for the entire interview.

That Gemma person is entirely too giggly at the prospect of co-starring with my Prince....;)

Hi Anon! - I wasn't criticising Maggie but I fear my comment didn't translate. I was actually admiring the way that Maggie puts her protectiveness of Heath's memory above the questioning of interviewers, oh well.

I do like the pictures of Maggie in the article I scanned - very seductive and glamorous.

Gemma struck me as being very giggly too, but then I hate to think how I would behave knowing I would shortly be playing the 'love interest' :) I'm looking forward to seeing her in the new Bond movie. She looks like quite a character.

Sorry, WDW. Wasn't criticizing you, just bloviating. I agree.

Wow! So much to read and enjoy and I will:)
I saw TDK last night and I will x-post a bit of my impressions of the movie...no spoilers... just a bit about the acting and standing in line with the crazy NYC crowd.

I lined up with my boy 3.5 hrs before the movie in the heat...YIKES...I did go back and forth to the air-conditioned lobby and sit down as needed. Everyone was so excited. Lots of other couples and families were in line with us for 8:30PM...:)

Xposted: I am not feeling all that well, especially after giving my all to enjoy TDK!

TDK is not a movie to see at 9PM, get out near midnight, get home at 0130 and then try to get some shut-eye. NO WAY!:)
You will NOT see Heath on screen, just the Joker.
I was riveted to the screen, shocked at the dialog, the characterizations, and frightened out of my wits sometimes, but I had a hella 2.5 hour ride.

Jake is going to love Maggie and Heath's performance. Heath gives one of the most evil, psychotic, frightening, with just a touch of comedy performances, I've ever seen in my entire life.

I liken his performance to Hannibal Lector of "Silence of The Lambs" and Anton Chigurh of "No Country For Old Men", both of whom gave brilliant, cold, psychotic, chilling performances.

I was not sad last night; I yelled, screamed just a little, almost jumped out of my seat a coupla times, cheered, shed a few tears, laughed and applauded both during the movie and during the dedication to Heath, as did all the other movie goers in the theater.
I had hella good time; trust me, you will not think of Heath not being with us for that 2.5 hours, because he is THAT good on screen. There is NO Heath on screen just the JOKER!
Maggie is definitely an upgrade from Katie. She's a real talent, the real deal and a great actress. I am glad she's getting this exposure. She rocked her part.

Aaron Eckhart surprised me with an intense powerful performance. The cast is superb; beyond brilliant in my estimation.

Each member of the ensemble works; the movie and the Director should be nominated for an Oscar: Christopher Nolan made a spellbinding brilliant crime drama, not just a comic book movie.
Heath should win a posthumous Oscar, the first since Peter Finch, if the Academy does the right thing. He has given three totally original performances, with characters created using his genius: Monster's Ball, BBM, and now The Joker. He'd better get an award this time; an Oscar if you please members of the Academy.

xoxoxo

Morning everyone! Summer is back, warm and sunny, just in time for a Monday...

Hi Anon! Thanks for that - hmm, and thanks for the 'bloviating' - like that :D

Morning Sass :D Thanks very much for sharing your first thoughts - sounds amazing. I just wish we didn't have to wait here, but not too long now. And sounds exausting! Hope you get some rest today.

Have a good day everyone :D

Realistic violence bothers me, which is why I left "Wanted" and "No country for old men" before they were over. Cartoon violence ("The Departed," "The Dark Knight," "Grindhouse") doesn't really bother me. They don't have to be cartoons in a literal sense; it's just that Jack Nicholson ("The Departed") hamming it up while the fake blood pools around his chest doesn't scare or horrify me. In "Hancock," there were some semi-scary moments ( the severed hand), but they were cartoonish as well.

I was trying to remember some of the Joker's scenes this monring, but all that came to mind were songs f5rom "Mamma Mia," which I saw last night. There are times when I see too many movies for my own good. :-/

Hello, there!
This is Nath, from Lovely & Amazing, a now closed fan site for Jake, remember? I just stopped by to tell you I'm always visiting the blog and I love coming here and reading all the news regarding Jake. You're doing a great job!

Isn't it great that Maggie is getting all this attention? She's so amazingly talented, and I'm glad she's getting noticed by the major public now. She really deserves it!

WDW, you are so in for a huge treat with TDK. My OH and I were both totally amazed, we saw it on IMAX, and I could hear the wonderfully ominous soundtrack as we were waiting for the previous showing to end. There are no words for Heath's performance - he's just beautiful in his way and inspired. Maggie is beautiful and sophisticated as Rachel, with a bit of a toughness which is very appealing. Everyone is just outstanding, Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart. Enjoy. :)

Hey WDW, how goes it? I've got SO much to catch up on here because I've been in a self-imposed PC Purdah for the last couple of days and I don't know if I'll get back here tonight.

However,I've got the week off work and plan to spend a chunk of tomorrow catching up on all that's been going on in Jake and Heath-world.

Had to pop in now, however to give all the Brits here the heads-up on the fact that Channel 5 are showing "Lords of Dogtown" at 11.05pm tonight. It's one of the Heath movies I haven't yet seen (must admit, apart from BBM on his birthday in April, which ripped me to shreds,I haven't been able to watch a Heath-film since he passed away ;-( ). I'm going to record "LoD" tonight and watch it,if I can,as a dress rehearsal for Thursday afternoon, when I have my seat booked for "TDK" (all being well on the kidney-scan front, fingers crossed =;-O ).
Just wanted to let others have the chance to tune in if they'd missed this in the listings.

Just have to say too, before I dash off, how I admire the dignity and class with which Maggie has conducted herself throughout what I've seen of the "TDK" promotions,so respectful, protective and obviously wistfully affectionate towards Heath...and those magazine scans you've posted here are some of the scrummiest pictures of her I've ever seen, especially the third one. That woman is sex on legs! Her brother and her other half aren't bad either ;-)......

Goodevening all. It's beautiful and balmy... Hope all those who attended the London premier -unable to attend due to work commitments >o( - had a wonderful time and can report back on the electric atmosphere that I saw on Sky Active this evening. Maggie looked so serene and beautiful at the premier, I can't wait until Thursday to see it on IMAX. I did see Jake's bodyguard with Christian Bale so hopefully he was there to.

Regarding the interview, she handled it well with her 'stock' answers with a little variation. I kept thinking in one of these interviews she's just gonna say 'look - I don't want to talk about that' but she gives moreorless the same answers. I loved the way she steered the interviewer away from asking questions about Jake and focus on the film - perhaps that's why he ended the interview so abruptly.

Breaking box office records - that's a given - watching the movie will hopefully be the same as Sass' experience.

BTW Lords of Dogtown is a good movie, another one of those where Heath loses himself in his performance. Won't spoil it for others but this biopic was pretty good.

Hi there everyone! well you guessed it - just got back from an incredible day at the London Dark Knight premiere - absolutely incredible and also absolutely knackering - wedged up and so tightly packed for 8 hours - I got separated from the others.

But it was fantastic! I want a Batmobile.... I was in the perfect spot - at the front, and where the stars were interviewed so got some great pics - Maggie looked so beautiful, simply stunning in her backless trousersuit and elegantly arranged hair. Peter was very supportive and stood there watching her. No sign of Jake but no surprises.

Have to thank Ruby, Anouska, Winterbird, Helsbells and Freetraveller for their wonderful company :D

A full report will follow in the morning as I have the day off especially!

A lot of people were talking about Heath - I was not the only one to be wearing stripes - and he was sorely missed and in everyone's thoughts.

Thanks so much for the comments - welcome Nathalia. I'm sorry to hear your fansite's now closed but I'm very glad to find you here. Hi Paul, BK, Nadine, Sheba and Pia! (Paul I love those pictures of Maggie and she is so beautiful)

Anon! Thank you so, so much for that kind and wonderful comment - I am extremely lucky to be able to do these things and it's a big pleasure to share them with everyone. What I really appreciate is 'in the old days' I used to do such things alone, but now, thanks to Jake and Brokeback and the readers here, not any more :D

I've just put the account of from last night - sorry it took so long.

Thank you so much, Anon - I hope there will be many more adventures :)
