Getting Nailed back on track, MOMA surprises and a Jack Twist

Following the good news that Jessica Biel has been in the studio doing the voiceover for Nailed - a sure sign, one would have thought, that Nailed will have an end and that end will be on the big screen - there have been some more references to the project. And, while Nailed has clearly been troubled for its actors, one gets the feeling that its stars feel nothing but affection and loyalty for it. For instance, Jessica Biel was in the Independent last week, to publicise her new Noel Coward movie Easy Virtue and this is what it said:

Jessica 'is involved in Nailed, the new film from David O Russell. Biel plays a waitress who becomes unhinged after she gets a nail lodged in her head. The shoot was suspended just three days away from completion when financing fell through. The movie is still incomplete, and it's left Biel in limbo. "I will stop my schedule to finish it, no matter what I'm doing," she says, "But it's been a really bizarre experience." Still, her recent roles have convinced her she's on the right path. "It's hard to find roles like Easy Virtue or Nailed," she says. "Complicated, interesting stories and interesting women... the bar has been set so high, I feel spoilt. It's the best..."'

Jessica's Nailed co-star Tracy Morgan has also been talking about Nailed, as part of a rather colourful interview for tattoo magazine Inked. Here is an excerpt: 'You’re working on the movie Nailed with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel. It had a pretty rough shoot. There were reports it was shut down. "Yeah, it was one of those things, man. Unprecedented. The movie was shut down seven times. But it was incredible." Director David O. Russell has a rep for being … difficult. "Yeah, well, he has his process. I love him. He was cool with me."' The rest is bleeped out...

Talking of Jessica Biel, she was one of the stars in attendance at the gala celebration of director Baz Luhrmann at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Also there were Peter and Maggie and, although almost always I've enjoyed Maggie's independent spirit with her fashion, I can't say I'm happy at all with the choice of outfit on this occasion, and this goes beyond fashion. Real or not, vintage or not, this is certainly intended to look real and it also looks 'designed to shock'. Maggie is heavily involved with many good causes and so, to me, this seems more incongruous than ever.

Brokeback Opera shelved and a Jack Twist

Remember the Brokeback Mountain opera, scheduled to open on Broadway? It's become the victim of the 'credit crunch' and has been shelved. An opera based on the life of Walt Disney has also had its resources removed.

However, there is some good news - the Jack Twist cocktail has been developed, which, not surprisingly features a shot (or two) of Jack and a twist of lemon. If you add advocaat, you get a Jack Nasty. How much do I love this picture below...?

Includes pictures from IHJ and links.

a shot (or two) of Jack and a twist

Wow, I could go for that. :)

I hope Maggie is promoting faux fur.

Hi there Anon! I wouldn't mind one of those Jack Twists either :D Maybe we should all make one... I hope that is faux fur but I've never been a fan of it. Better off with a nice sweater with toggles :D Thanks for commenting!

Dunno - I can't get on board, ever, with wearing real fur. Designers almost are defiantly frivolous with how they use it too and flout animal suffering, IMO, using it for trimming non-necessary clothing items and not just coats, real fur bikinis, dying real fur bizarre colors, etc. I think that's what bothers me the most. I don't think anyone has the right to wear another creature's skin and fur. It's barbaric, this outfit looks like it's from 2,00,000 years BC.

There's some gorgeous faux stuff out there. I remember seeing a full length faux seal coat with Chinese fabric frog buttons, and I fell so in love with it. The company that made it was from the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Canada too, of all places! I should have bought it, because I have never been able to find it again. I'm still looking! ;)

I agree Anon, I don't like it at all. I realise that I'm a veggie non-leather wearer so my views are possibly more intolerant than most, but even so... I wouldn't like to think Maggie's making a statement by wearing such an item. She must have thought about it.

I can see the appeal of some funfur - I remember Jake's SNL Polar Bear boots and coat!

Yes, fun fur (faux) is definitely a lot of fun. That's what I liked about my coat. It was obviously fake.

OK, this last picture- where did you get it from, WDW? New old pictures from IHJ? I've even forgotten about the beautiful fireworks with Vangelis music and protesting against Maggie's choice of clothing. The legs, the legs! *slaps herself* These are Jack Twist's legs, clad in denim, long, lean, strong.

I'm so glad the opera is not going to happen. It would be a disaster.

I'm looking forward to Nailed cause it's my substitute for 9 and 1/2 weeks remake with Jake:)

Hi Anon :)

Hey Zodiac! That last picture.... :P I absolutely love it - Jack Twist for sure - its a new old pic, thanks to IHJ. I'm glad too about the opera. Just didn't feel right. The legs, the legs :D

Hey girls.
It's been some time...

Well, I'm in a hurry, but it's just impossible not to take a look at WDW.
What I want to say is pretty short and maybe not so lovely: Maggie has a weird taste for clothes. Always. This time, faux or not, she really crossed the line. Jeez...
Sometimes I just want to ask her: "Why do you want to look like an old lady, dear?"

:)
Take care you all.

(don't take me too serious today, ok? I'm in a horrible mood...sorry ladies. I promise I'll be back way kinder.)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

No worries, Monica :) Good to see you! As I say, I usually love Maggie's clothes and whole look - individual and interesting - but not this one. I've had a hard day too - have a good evening :D

O this has to be faux fur. Even those evil lil chinchillas (I had a friend who raised the nasty little rodents in her pantry) dont grow hair that long. Only Jake and Peter hahaha.

As for Peter a la Chekhov - no matter how soft the beard, it
s gotta be a hoot, and not in a good way, to be in bed with these guys.

I have horrible memories of a husband whose beard caught hold of a garlicy scallop slice from a meal in Chinatown NYC. garlic soysauce fish. . .

eeeewwwww!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Pia! Mr WDW has a beard but I think if he decided to grow a Chekov version, we'd have words... That's some memory :P I quite like chinchillas although one bit me once..

Anna said...

Ouch! Can't say I care for the Sarsgaard beard. What is it with the Gyllengaard men and their need to cover their beautiful faces??? Let's hope he shaves it off soon!!!

I would be surprised if that was real fur. Maggie is so politically aware, it doesn't sound like her to forget about animal rights...

Oh, and Jake is as beautiful as ever. Love those first pics of young Jake - he was a lot of fun back then. ;-D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

So good to see you Anna *) I've gotta say, that beard is getting a little excessive and not a little itchy.

I hope it's not real fur - looks like it wants to be real fur...

The new old pics of young Jake are just so gorgeous and really made me smile this evening :D Hope you're having a good evening!

Oh Zodiac! I have this photo of Jack as my screensaver, all in blue denim, sitting on the back of the truck, with Jack's beauteous face too. ;)

Upon reflecton, I think Maggie's stole is actual silver fox, not faux.

Hi everyone

I have to admit I'm really surprised at Maggie's choice of clothes. I usually love her sense of style but the fur just looks wrong. I do like her clutch bag though - a nice gold number.

I'm really glad that opera is not going ahead. Why mess with what's already perfect.

I love that last pic - definitely Jack. I'll have to go and make myself a Jack Twist:)

Have a great evening:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon :D That's a wonderful picture you're describing and I can see it when I close my eyes :)

I agreee, Pia.

Hey Carol! I'm with you on the opera. I never liked the idea. Ooh, do make a Jack Twist and let us know what they're like. That walnuty smokey flavour seems fitting for the mountain.

Anonymous said...

Yep to no opera ...

Nope to Peter's beard :)

And nice to see "my" pic, WDW :*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Nouskie! We have to get Peter to shave... Lovely pic - so glad it's on IHJ now :D Hope you're having a good night *)

I hope that was faux fur. I was hearing about a complaint to Peta.

But still I really don't like the style even if it is faux.

I liked all the B&W shots of Jake. the one with the fingers at the camera is cute

I want to say how I agree with some comments but the different Anons are confusing. hope WDW doesn't mind this: When you go to comments, pick the Name/URL button and fill in a name anything! in the Name line. You don't have to put anything in the URL line, skip it. then do the Publish your Comment. Now people can respond to what name you put in, not to 5 different Anons and timestamps.

Hey everyone

Glad there will not be a BBM Opera.

No PoP preview on ET. :( We need some Brother's, Nailed and/or PoP now!

I hope that is faux fur on Maggie. Peter's beard way to long. I love scruff on him and Jake but this is a bit much. Yet I do know it is for the play. Love them all (J, P, M) thought.

LOVE those last two pics of Jake. So gorg!! *Swoon*

I'm kinda shy, tho! I'll try to use a name. :)

I think that Maggie does what she has to do, playing the hand she was dealt. A lot of hairstyles are not flattering for her, and the best formal gowns for her are black, which invites the idea that she's dressing older. She's really not, you know, she just appreciates what the classic approach can do for her. It's her body and her face, and she's trying to flatter both. Lately she's been spectacularly successful. Can we give her a little credit?

But I do agree that the fur, whether faux or not, does some damage by distracting the eye from what should be some of her best features. Unfortunately, I don't know what the context was. Maybe there was some kind of theme she was supposed to be adhering to, and she might have been doing a good job of it....

Of course we can. While I have my own personal beliefs about fur, I would never impose them on someone else. You can't really tell someone how to think, the information is out there, and people can either change their minds or not. The association with status and glamour fur has isn't really relevant anymore, we've evolved as human beings. All you really can do anything about is your own personal beliefs. Ordinarilly, I love Maggie's clothes, but I am ethically opposed to the wearing of fur, as it isn't a necessity in the modern age, just a superficial sign of wealth and status that is outmoded. There could be an argument for the use of leather, although I'm phasing that out as well. I'm hoping this is faux. :)

Anonymous said...

Also, an argument can be made the the wearing of fur increased demand for it. :)

I love the silver fox stole. You do have to be tall to get away with it, and for me, she does.

I agree, Paul, that she has a difficult hand to play, style wise, and plays it very well. And those G kids, as Ang said about Jake, you gotta be careful how you photograph them. Jakes face can be stunningly beautiful but also quite odd. Makes him interesting, Sis, also. I love to look at them both. Oh yes and also together.

Michelle Obama in heels is taller than Barack, gonna be fun to clothes-watch.

Saw a really fine movie, Under The Sand, Charlotte Rampling.

Thanks for a name from this quarter, Shy Anon.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Michelle Obama is going to be fun to fashion watch. :)

Just a quick fly by this morning!!!

I, too, had to think of Anouska because of that first pic! ;)

And how good to see Anna here - assuming that was the Anna I know... ;)

:-/ about Maggie's fur... I hope she is smart and it is at least faux...

Wonderful "new" pic of Jake!!!!

Bye

Good morning everyone! Thanks for all the comments - one thing the Gyllenhaals are very good for is provoking an interesting discussion, that's for sure.

And a big hello to Shy Anon :D Thanks very much for giving yourself a name!

Thanks How to Give Yourself a Name - it does get very confusing :)

I wonder if the ET thing will ever show... :( I'm hoping it's cos they're a week out.

Have a great day everyone!

Oh my, I'm glad for Nailed and shit but I can't put my eyes off the last pic...Oh Lord, he takes my breath away, a spell that I don't want to never be broken...

The legs, the legs! *slaps herself* These are Jack Twist's legs, clad in denim, long, lean, strong.
Zodiac, I love when you go all ecstatic like that! Same feelings here, sister...:)

And yay for the Jack Twist cocktail, I want one pronto!

A good day to WDW and to everyone. :)

wouldnt you rather be slung about the throat of a beautiful woman than have your gorgeous fur molder away in the woods? we all must die some day.

Anonymous said...

No, I wouldn't want to be killed for my beauty, I'd rather molder in the woods, at my own option, running around the forest with my beautiful silver fox vixen. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Made it home at last - what a day...

Hey Xenia :D It's some pic, all right. I have a new desktop.

Hi Pia :) I will never agree with you on that one, I'm afraid. Wearing an animal fur makes a woman far less beautiful in my eyes.

I agree, Anon :)

Jack Twist cocktails all round :D

Anonymous said...

Oh ok ok....here it is. ;)

hey Monica O - you giving me a Jack Twist? I accept, have a hug :DDD
