Jake on women - 'The more you know, the less you know'

Although this side of the pond does not celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow - more's the pity - I thought I'd take a peek this evening at something that I truly do give thanks for - Brokeback Mountain and two hot cowboys - via an old interview that was new to me. This is suppplemented by photographs that also give me cause for thanks.

Back in 2006 Jake Gyllenhaal gave an interview to Redbook and I love how he is introduced: 'Jake was a popular guy the day of our phone chat. He told us he had back-to-back interviews scheduled (everyone, including us, was eager to hear about his controversial hit, Brokeback Mountain). But he made time to talk to Redbook. And when we heard his sexy voice on the other end of the phone, well, that's one interview tape we'll be holding onto for a long time to come...'. A sexy phone call from Jake - surely enough to make one's ears fall off.

Jake is asked if he relates to Jack Twist: 'Yeah. I'm definitely the type of person in my own life that goes, "We can try that. Let's try that!" And maybe naively so. And a lot of people might even think that about the choices of movies I've made. They're like, "Does he know what he's getting himself into?" And I'm like maybe and maybe not. But why do I need to? Why do I need to calculate my life?' And I rather like the end of this interview: '[What has your sister Maggie taught you about women?] I couldn't tell you. The more you know, the less you know. [We're a challenging breed.] Yes, you are. [Laughter]' But worth it, Jake...

Pilot

And I can think of one person at least who'll be very thankful to see the new old Highway-Jake pics posted on IHJ - big thanks to Stephanie!

Thank you. :)

Now we just need some deleted scenes and a commentary to show up. :D

It would be good to get something more on Highway - it's all a bit of a mystery to me! :) (Great blogger word I have to post - hantedea...)

WDW you are amazing. I couldn't find that much subject for a blog, even if it was about myself. And there you go...everyday you surprise me again!

I read the interview and there's something he said that makes me think he's even more special than I could ever imagine - and that's only because he thinks like I do. Am I egocentric or what?
"And in a lot of ways, it's a story about what real, romantic love is. Where two people feel really alive with each other, you know? That's how I think love should make you feel. And I might be an idealist, but I think it should make you feel that way all the time."

Yeah Jake baby...

Monica

(that B&W picture with the bars is my favorite. I just can't get enough of it.)

Monica, you are very kind to say that, thanks :) Jake inspires me :D You put me in mind of something that I love - I post a link to an interview but I really do love how certain sentences, words, grab each of us. And I really like to hear that. To say that the person you love makes you feel really alive is a wonderful thing to say and a great way to think. Thanks, Monica :)

I love it when interviewers or reporters find themselves mooning over Jake - especially those who are normally very poised and mature :)

me too, Ruby! but for BBM! LOL.. If I ever meet Ang Lee, I would definitely "beg" him to release some deleted scenes/bloopers, add commentaries etc... maybe 10-year-anniversary? *sighs*

Hey everyone just a quick visit as up to my eyes in work at the moment:(

I admire Jake's idealism and that he isn't afraid to show it. I love his description of love and how it should make you feel. I so agree.

Thanks WDW for some more lovely Jack pics and I must say that I loved yesterday's Vanity Fair post. I will never ever get tired of watching that clip.

Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating tomorrow:)

[We're a challenging breed.]

Where can I find this new breed? Is it bigger brighter better than the old hounds I hang with? Are they nootered? I don't understand women either. Something I like about being a canine is I like how I can call female a bitch and its ok but like if Daddy does it he gets in big trouble. Score 1 for Atti.

Hi everyone!

Always great posts, WDW. Thank you for all of them and very nice to see a Pilot post!

I just have to say, leaving gossip aside, I am very upset to see what is being written about Jake's parents and the details of their divorce. :( I feel very baldy for all of them, especially Jake and Maggie.

I want to wish a very happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates and a wonderfu Thursday/weekend to everyone!

xoxoxo

Happy Turkey Day USAan, never sure what we're supposed to be grateful about, just generically grateful, I guess. not too easy at this time in the life of the world.

although I did get teary watching Obama and his family giving out frozen turkeys to poor people in Chicago, they look like smart, warm and kindly people and I am terribly grateful for new leadership in this land that is (thank you Pete Seeger) your land and my land from California to the New York Island etcetc

So I guess I am kinda emotional and greatly grateful this year!

Or as Jake would say, hope has feathers. . . whut? must stop being so cynical, I cried my eyes out for a week in gratitude after our election.

Milk flic sounds great. I am so moved by the courage of Harvey Milk. Sean Penn is one of the finest actors.

If I knew I was gonna have to weather Jake's personal life and that of his parents, I might never have let myself fall in love. If you cant take the pain dont play the game. right.

Is everybody watching the puppy ustream? http://cdn1.ustream.tv/swf/4/viewer.45.swf?cid=317016

they're at play now, they sleep for hours, and if the screen is dark its because they're asleep for the night. they're fed about ten am EST and then they poop and then they go crazy and this goes on all day long.

Get Real,

I felt the same. I think it's a huge lack of respect for people's lives. Uh oh...But those are gossip tabloids...I forget respect is not exactly their thing.

Atticus, I think I'm falling in love with you. Seriously! :)

I can think of at least two readers who will be happy about those pics, WDW. Pilot is a favourite here too! ;-D

Pia, so eloquent as usual. If I feel a little of the gutwrenching sickness of coming across all that cr@p (which I refuse to read) then how might our baby boy feel?

Life's sometimes unfair and we are the sum of all our parts and experiences so I guess things like that can only make you stronger.

A small piece of the Desiderata for you all - words I try to live by:

"Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass."

another small piece:

"And whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."

and happy Thanksgiving for the USA and the rest of us. I give thanks for my two boys who have joint birthdays today- how lucky am I? :DDDDDD

Good morning everyone! So good to see you all. And Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate it and to all of us who are at work as normal...I hope we get a good day too. Thanks for all the comments :D

hi Winterbird! Love it when these interviewers start swooning over Jake - a real hazard of the job!

Morning Carol :D I watched that clip again more than once last night :)

OMG Atti! You have no competition as far as I'm concerned :D Thanks for making me laugh so much!

Hi Get Real :D It's not easy reading all this and I really feel for Jake and Maggie. Have a wonderful holiday weekend :D

Hi Monica! I love that pic too - always makes me happy looking at it :D

Morning Pia! It was never meant to be easy... Puppy ustream??? What is the world coming to? I hope you have a great weekend. I hope Milk gets over here soon.

Hi Monica O :D The rags just don't care and I've no time for them.

Hey Anna! I didn't know you had the Pilot bug as well :D

Morning Sheba! And happy birthday to your boys - busy day for you then :)

Have a great day everyone and good to see you all!

Mornig WDW and everyone.:)

I guess Jake is not happy about his own family stuff being around the internet but I'm sure he knows this are accidents that happen when you're famous.
And he certainly knows that people love to see their own idols in the mud. It's in the nature of celebrity culture. That makes them feel stars are just like them, after all. I say, what a poor joy.
But he will be all right, he was born to be in the showbiz and he is Wet Dark and Wild for a reason.

Anyway...

Oh WDW, you're in great shape these days! Another great post, thank you.

Lovely interview from Jake for Redbook, the interviewer is mooning over him, yes, but to me the funniest thing is that she got paid for that...I need to get sexy phone calls from Jake for a living too...

Another Piiilot fan here! :)

Have a good day!

Hello WDW, thanks for another great post - and yesterday's too. I love that Vanity Fair clip. Wasn't that exhibition the same one that was at the National Gallery earlier this yr?
Posting also in case no one had noticed that apparently Reese Witherspoon is on Graham Norton tonight?
My blogger word is 'entima'. I am an Ent and an enigma. TD

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Xenia! Ooh, these Pilot fans coming out of the woodwork :D It is a lovely interview. Hope you're having a good day!

Hi Anon! Thanks for that! Oh yes, I'd forgotten that exhibition... I bet it was the same, hmmm. I always thought Graham Norton was on Fridays? So thanks for the heads up:D My word is phespifi - kind of like it - one of those words Jake should try and get into an interview...

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Thanks WDW for the beautiful pics of Jake and that Redbook article I have never seen it.

And I love BBM. I have never seen the pilot or Highway

You need to watch it again I think! :D

I went to the VF exhibition when it was in London. To my disappointment, the pics of Heath and Jake were not included.
