Jake Gyllenhaal back in the Spotlight - Golden Globes, January 11 2009

It's Christmas! - well, almost - and that means tinsel, baubles, glitter and globes. No sooner are the turkey leftovers in the cat, then it's the turn of the Awards ceremony and party season, and one of the first out of the cracker is the Golden Globes. One could be forgiven for not remembering 2008's, which was relegated to a press conference, but you're going to remember the Golden Globes of 2009 - Jake Gyllenhaal is making his come back to Hollywood's shiney stage of champers, dickie bows and golden gongs. Today, Jake was named as one of the presenters!

The last time we saw Jake at the Globes was back in 2006, when he was rather sleepy after his SNL exertions, which he'd just flown back from, and sported a wonky bowtie and needed placing by Hilary Swank. All that was as nothing though - Jake looked better than the awards (possibly something to do with that little curl of hair). Here's a reminder.

Maggie was there for Sherrybaby but the talk outside on the red carpet was of Jake's SNL triumph.

In 2006, the strenuous and rigid filming schedule of Zodiac meant that Jake couldn't be at the Globes for its Brokeback nominations (not that he received one himself), but, in 2004, Jake was there in the audience to cheer on Maggie: '"My heart was beating pretty hard the whole time," said Jake, 22, who starred in last year's Moonlight Mile and The Good Girl. "I told her not to get too nervous, and then I was doing just that."'

And there were goodies: 'Backstage, celeb presenters such as Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal were treated to elaborate gift baskets, courtesy of On 3 Productions, and valued at $21,000. The most coveted goodies up for grabs included TiVos--most stars were snatching up their second or third--and a Loews movie pass for two, good for one year.' I wonder what they've lined up this year...

This time, on January 11, Jake will have an interest in several of the awards. Friends and colleagues David Fincher, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Robert Downey Jr, Dustin Hoffman and Sam Mendes are all up for gongs. And, of course, Heath ledger has a nomination for his Joker. It will be some evening and it will be great to see Jake on the public stage again.

I hope Heath wins and Jake gets to present the award!

I agree with bandgeek. I hope Jake gets to present best supporting actor and announce Heath as the winner.

(PS Word of the day is mishat. how apt, I do miss the cowboy hat Jake was wearing the other day!)

Merry Christmas everyone.

Hi Bandgeek! That would just be too good to be true, maybe too much to hope for :)

Hey LJF! How you doing! That was a great hat. My word is hutoma, which, for all I know, is another type of hat... Hope we get to see you in the New Year and have a lovely Christmas!

I want Heath to win *sigh*

Me too, Zodiac :) I'm hoping he will.

That's wonderful news about Jake being a presenter at the Golden Globes. The downside is that he could present the best supporting actor award, and not have it go to Heath. :-( Meanwhile, Ann Hathaway, who was the only principal actor *not* to be Oscar-nominated for "Brokeback Mountain," could conceivably get the best actress Globe for "Rachel getting Married." I would love to see her so honored, but it would be even better to have Heath win, too. The only problem is that heath won't be there to enjoy it. :-(

So glad Jake will be presenting at the GG's!

Jake in a tux always = win. ;p

Wanted to wish everyone a wonderful, happy and healthy holiday, be it Hannukah, Christmas or whatever you celebrate. :)

Thank you, WDW and everyone here for this wonderful Jaking place. I am grateful for you all.

Hugs

I wonder if they would ask him to present the Best Supporting Actor! That would mean so much...

But in any case, I am glad we get to see him in a good tux and looking gorgeous.

Hi Paul! That would be bad :( I think that's one reason why Jake won't be presenting that award. It would be good to see Jake giving an award to Anne :D

Hi there Get Real! And happy holidays to you too! Jake in a tux is a great thing and it's been way, way too long... Thank you so much for still reading after all this time *)

Hey Winterbird! Hope you're all packed and ready for your travels :D I am so ready to see Jake in a tux again - I wonder if he'll cut his hair again?

I hope everyone' having a good evening and not making a real mess of wrapping presents like me...

Good night, wet dark!

Jake always gives a special charm during the presentations.

The award for supporting actor is presented by actress winner of the previous year. But I think we will see his reaction when hearing the name of Heath.

I hope he appears also in SAG, Bafta and Oscar!:D

Probably our dear Heath will be applauded standing.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica! How are you doing? I think they would show Jake's reaction - and he'll know that. I hope we see Jake at all the awards and I hope Heath wins at them all too. It'll be bittersweet. But I am really looking forward to seeing Jake out there again!

Is anyone else having trouble with YouTube this evening or is it just me?

It's my destiny to make a mess of wrapping gifts. However, because of the economy and my being too tired and old and crotchedy, there are not a lot of things to wrap this year. But I hope I've thought out all the gifts well.

Today I am better, thank you.:)

Get Real, Happy holidays to you and the whole family!

Hi Paul! I just can't wrap gifts - they look awful by the time I've finished with them. I think they look charming though, in dim lighting.

Hi there Monica! Glad yo're feeling better today :D

You know, I must have watched the GGs last year, but for the world of me I didn't remember seeing these clips. Jake in a tux should equal unforgettable. I must be suffering from parvi.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi JoeAnn! It's not you - Jake was in it a couple of years ago, not last year - Jan 2007.

Good morning everyone! - er, I think I may have to go to the shops again... have a great day, and safe journeys to all those on the move today :)

Hello everybody!!!

I'm sorry, I haven't been around for a while but it's good to come back with such great news. Especially because my dear Kate (Winslet) has two GG nods this year (squee!).

I agree with bandgeek, Jake presenting the BSA award and Heath winning would be perfect... well, not really now that Heath won't be there to receive it... actually, I think it would be beautiful but terribly sad.

It's incredible but Anne could win not only a GG but also a SAG and an Oscar this year. I like her a lot but there's something odd (for me - just MHO) about her being the first of the BBM gang to win.

Finally, HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all the Gyllenholics around the world and especially extra big hug to WDaW!!!

Love,

ANDREA

btw thanks for my Christmas gift WDW! My very own collarcam. I love it, its got everything you really got me the top of the line cam. You're so thoughtful it has auto focus super zoom and it has nite vision and it even has fogwipers for the lens when I'm waiting for Daddy in the shower and its really small and liteweight and it blends in with my fur really good. Nobody will tell I have it on. You said to wear it when I'm around Daddy, your so cute when you are too shy to ask me to film myself, really I don't mind. You don't have to pretend to be more interested in Daddy when its me you really want to know, I don't mind showing you all about me. My fisrt vid especially for you is gonna be a tour of my doghouse and my yard. Then I want to show you my inside house dogbed and blankets and all my chew toys and my friends and favorite bones and chase balls. I'm gonna give you a whole tour of where I bury things, everything I ever buried, that might take some time so get out the popcorn. And then I show you my favorite trees and bushes and grass spots and who I bark at. I gonna cam you my favorite foods and my waterdish and all my food eating dishes and bowls and all my favorite sleeping spots and where I look for dropped food and the best sniffing spots. You and I will take realtime naps together too. After when I done showing you all about me and my life and everything I do and like and sniff then I'll film Daddy when I get boring but don't worry it'll be a long time before that happens. Merry Christmas I love you WDW.*kiss*

Merry Christmas Ruby Rubes! I hope you're having a lovely evening xx

Oh Atti, you are wonderful and we love you. The collarcam will be great, show us everything and don't worry about turning it off. Good idea to keep it going while Jake's in the shower... Love to see your favourite buryspots too :D I hope you get lots of turkey - it'll be veggie nutroast here, I'm afr4aid, but you're definitely very welcome! We love you :D

Have a lovely, special evening everyone :) There's a Christmas post on the way :D

There's a guy in England who celebrates Christmas every day. He's been doing it for 14 years.

There are a few Christmas items that I leave out in full view all year.
