[Updated] Jake Gyllenhaal works off the Golden Globes Gold Dust Dessert and Michelle Williams in GQ

Never mind the winners of the Golden Globes, what about the Golden Globes Dessert? According to GossipCop it was a 'chocolate almond terrine, garnished with acacia honey, caramel and fresh berries, on a lemon hazelnut crunch base and finished with the edible gold.. “There is gold dust on there for the Golden Globes.”' Nothing quite like gold dust to add pounds to you, so not surprisingly Jake Gyllenhaal spent the day after the awards in the gym working it off.

Meanwhile, Michelle Williams, who may also have consumed gold dust on Sunday night, covers February's issue of GQ. There is a simply wonderful interview with Michelle inside, honest and extremely moving, and it includes mention of Heath Ledger. You can read it all here and I recommend you do.

Many thanks to IHJ for the new pictures! There are more there.

And talking of the Globes... Thanks to Mrs JG for the picture!

Jake Gyllenhaal introduces Michelle Williams at the Globes - who then wins Best Actress!

With no further ado, here is Jake Gyllenhaal introducing Michelle William's work in My Week with Marilyn at the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills last night, for which, I'm delighted to say, Michelle did win Best Actress! Many congratulations to Michelle!

We owe IHJ a massive thank you for showing this to us so quickly! Thanks also to them for the pictures. And well done to those WDW readers on this side of the pond who managed to stay awake for it all!

On 14 January Jake met Busy Philipps and her family for breakfast at Square One in LA.

[Updated with livestream] As the kick off for the Golden Globes approaches, Jake Gyllenhaal rehearses...

It's GG DAY! Yes, it's time for Jake Gyllenhaal to de-mothball his tux and untuck his trousers from inside his shoes and take centre stage, at least for a few minutes, to introduce one of the awards at tonight's Golden Globes. Jake isn't a nominee and so it's not certain that he'll walk the red carpet like last year but he will at least stand on stage. The twitter feed for the awards has posted a picture of Jake rehearsing and I think you'll agree he looks amazing. And brainy.

Another picture has been posted of preparations well underway in the magnificent ballroom of the Beverly Hilton. Click and it shall be much embiggened but if you can spot a Jake sign you have better eyes than me and Jake.

The Golden Globes kick off at 7pm Eastern Time, which is midnight over here and so we shall see what the morning brings. I would like to make a plea to all awards organisers that they shift the ceremonies to a Saturday night, thank you very much. For those of us on this side of the pond, it's worth keeping an eye on a few places for a livestream. There are some ideas here. If anyone sees a stream I'd be grateful if they could share it in the comments.

UPDATE: Thanks to Eureka for this link!

Update: Jake Gyllenhaal to present at the Golden Globes, a San Francisco shave? Vote for Brokeback and Peter Lovelace Sarsgaard

UPDATE: the Speculative Shave (see below) may well be in a good cause, Jake Gyllenhaal has just been announced as one of the presenters at the Golden Globes next Sunday (15 January)! So not long now and we get our first official look at Jake in 2012.

On with the post...

With the agility and speed of a modern day Scarlet Pimpernel, Jake Gyllenhaal was one minute in San Francisco and the next he was back in LA. On Sunday evening tweets put Jake on a plane back to Burbank, on which he seemed to cause a little flurry of excitement. But before the flight back, there were sightings of Jake all over San Francisco - hiking in the Marin Headlands, buying kale at the market, dining out at Hapa Ramen, in bars, and...., I think this one deserves a dramatic pause.....

and another pause...

Getting a shave. Yep, San Francisco is good for Jake. It gives him shaving urges: 'The trip to the barber was more exciting than normal, since we just missed Jake Gyllenhall getting a shave, apparently.' Let's just hope it wasn't too drastic.

Hopefully, now that Jake's back in LA, it won't be too long before we can judge the results.

Peter Lovelace

Meanwhile, talking of facial hair, Peter Sarsgaard has been spotted on the set of Linda Lovelace. Peter plays the husband of pornstar Linda (Amanda Seyfried) and there are no prizes for guessing in which decade it is set. Don't say I didn't warn you... Let's just hope this isn't the look Jake went for. Source.

And finally...

Focus Features are asking audiences to vote for their favourite Focus Features movie. It would be great if you could go pop along and vote for these guys. When I voted, Brokeback was number three.

Atticus and friend take Jake Gyllenhaal out for a walk to show off Jake's new haircut!

Whenever I see Jake Gyllenhaal with a new haircut, I can't help hoping that it might be a blue flag, waving in an imminent new role. And when it's paired with a shave, then I don't just see one flag, it's a veritable display of bunting. But, that said, it's very nice to see Atticus out for a walk with a mate yesterday (29 January) in Beverly Hills. Luckily for us, they decided to take their owners with them.

Several things to note here in addition to the gorgeous new haircut (reminiscent of the Source Code look perhaps?): a) LA is having to endure another hot, sunny January, poor sods; and b) the Nike is back where it belongs.

The day before (28 January), Jake was back at everyone's favourite Medical Center, putting in some extra hours. Another hint perhaps of things a-happening? Or have I just eaten too many soft-centred chocolates?

And while we're talking new pictures - here are some more images of Jake at the Globes, where it looks like he was sitting at quite a table. I remember CZJ when she was knee-high to a grasshopper back there on Home Farm with Ma and Pa Larkin...

Many thanks to IHJ for the lovely new pictures! There are lots more there.

Duncan Jones talks about Source Code, Jake Gyllenhaal, Moon and Mute and reveals new UK release date for SC

What with all the excitement over the Golden Globes, there's not been much time to look at an in-depth interview that took place this month between Duncan Jones and We Got It Covered. In addition to some great detail about Duncan's acclaimed debut movie Moon and some thoughts on what will be next, Duncan tells us quite a bit about Source Code, the role that Jake Gyllenhaal played in getting Duncan on board and the movie made, and his experience of working with Jake. Generously, you can not only read the interview you can also download it.

This all coincides beautifully with Duncan's tweet (here via ManMadeMovies) yesterday that the US and the UK will share the same release date for Source Code - 1 April 2011.

Back to the interview and the beginnings of Source Code: 'I don’t think I would have wanted to have jumped into Source Code, which was a much bigger film than Moon, without having done a feature before it. Also, Jake wouldn’t have been interested in me in the first place. His interest in working with me was very much based on his appreciation of Moon.'

'In all honestly, I met up with Jake Gyllenhaal and it was to discuss another project, one of my own, that I’ve been trying to do for a long time, a film called Mute. So I met with Jake and he had seen Moon and he was a big fan and we just started talking about possibly working together. Jake was already attached to Source Code and would be doing it next and he was very keen on me directing it and he asked me if I’d be interested in collaborating with him and working with him on that. I think Jake’s a fantastic actor and I very much wanted to work with him. I read the script and I thought it was pretty good and wanted to get on board. I wanted to work with Jake.'

'In all honesty, I think they were already pretty far along with the project. Jake was already attached, they knew when they would be shooting the film. At one point I think there was another director attached but Jake was very complimentary about Moon and when I met with him he told me that he wanted me to direct. I came in there with my own take on things and I think I messed up a little bit of their planning since I obviously had my own spin on how things should be done. But it all worked out and I’m lucky that I had very talented people around me. But I came onto it fairly late in the day, in fact what is it now? It’s January now, I think mid-November of last year is when I first agreed to be on board with Source Code, so that’s pretty fast really.'

We've talked here about the possibility that Source Code may remind us of other time jumping films and Duncan addresses that, referring to Deja Vu and Vantage Point: 'You’re just gonna have to watch it. It’s not like those films. Ya there are similarities in plot devices but it’s so different to those films in my mind that I would just suggest the audience go see it because it’s not the same as those films... With Source Code, there are things we do in the story which take it in different directions, but ya there’s a few twists. I think it’s all fitting though, within the story and very much within the tone of this kind of story. It’s all good fun.'

Interestingly, Duncan does relate the film to Hitchcock: 'That’s funny, I’m not sure that there was anything that relates directly. There were some Hitchcock films we looked at and some more unexpected things but nothing specifically. We may have visually referenced some things but it would be more subconsciously nothing overt.'

Finally, working with Jake: 'I have to say, one of the things that really drew me in and made me want to work with Jake is, well, I had an amazing meeting with Sam Rockwell for Moon. We really clicked, as people, besides the work, we just got on really well. I had a similar thing with Jake. He’s a really funny and smart guy. After I read the script we started talking about it and about putting the humor back in. He’s got a great sense of humor and he’s very creative. He’s willing to throw himself into things and try new things. While shooting, having him and Michelle Monaghan, Vera, Jeffery, all working together and with Jake willing to try stuff and be goofy and do the unexpected, I think we had a really enjoyable set. All the actors were really enjoying themselves.'

This is a very special interview - many thanks to WGTC for doing such a thorough job and to Duncan for being so open. There is much, much to it, so do read it all at WGTC.

Videos

Many thanks to Monica for sending me a link to this Christmas message to Brazil from Jake and Anne, as well as some other stars.

There are some other videos from the Globes. I love the first below because Jake is his charming self and winds down the car window to wave to his fans.

And in the next, we can see Jake and Michelle Willams - and some other stars - ouside the Sunset Tower at the afterparty.

Out for coffee

As for Jake, yesterday (18 January) he was out for a coffee with none other than Marc Silverstein again. It's good to see Jake out and about with his friends.

Many thanks to IHJ for the pictures and scans.

An exclusive WDW report from the Golden Globes red carpet - and Jake Gyllenhaal and friends

It was wonderful to see Jake Gyllenhaal on the Golden Globes red carpet this weekend and what makes it even more special is knowing that Jake shared it with my very dear friend Lisa (aka BBMISwear) who was working there this year. Hard day at the office, I'm sure you'll agree. In this photo, try and move your eyes from Jake. To his right is none other than Lisa.

In these caps, from the AP Livestream (check it out from about 15:50 onwards) you see Lisa in the background and then Jake appears. You can see him on the right in the second photo.

At this point, let's cut to Lisa's words, interspersed with Lisa's own pictures of a very gorgeous Jake Gyllenhaal shining on the golden red carpet. This picture below is particularly special - it's when Jake spots Lisa.

'While in route to find someone at the beginning of the carpet I was walking against the flow of the celebs walking down the carpet as they arrived and saw Natalie Portman right in front of me - I stopped in my tracks as she was simply beautiful and glowing. Just as I said that to a co-worker to my right I then looked up and who was coming up the carpet toward us? Jake! Amazing! He was talking to everyone and walking with his publicist Carrie and his regular bodyguard pal and was just breathtaking to see coming toward me.'

'I followed along Jake's route and watched him during the many photos taken, interviews conducted, etc. And then the most unexpected thing happened...as he stood in front of the bleacher seats with fans yelling to him and asking for autographs he was in conversation with Carrie and another PR person (it looked like they were planning what further press stops he'd make as they continued) he was now standing right in front of me not going anywhere quite yet so I took my chance at saying Hi (not an easy thing to do on this carpet with them all moving along as quickly as they can).'

'I leaned in so he could hear me and said "Hey Jake!" and then this is the incredibly unexpected part - he looked right at me and said "Hey! How are You?" as he put out his arm and pulled me into a hug! So I leaned in, hugged him and kissed his cheek! That beard stubble - Wow!!! I said "Great! How are you?" and he said "Great!" - huge smile! I said "Congratulations on your nomination" and he said "Thanks!" and then Carrie was ready to pull him on to the next press stop. I stood there in one place for a minute or two wondering how the hell that just happened?! He remembered me! It was amazing...simply amazing!!'

'After watching him continue on with his photos and press stops he was headed into the hotel ballroom very close to start time so off I went backstage to work! He talked to various people on the carpet - the one he talked the longest to was Natalie. He was very upbeat the whole time - at first when the fans in the bleachers asked him to come over to sign autographs he gave a signal like "I don't know if I can" and looked toward his publicist for confirmation but once he was told he had a few minutes to sign he walked right over to them. Although when he was "posing" for photos he was very serious with that brooding stance and stare when he was being interviewed he was smiling and laughing - always friendly with the interviewers, etc. Just so upbeat!'

'While on the carpet I saw Natalie as I said and also Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Kevin Spacey, Mark Ruffalo, Jimmy Fallon, Lea Michele (Glee), Matthew Morrison (Glee), Carrie Underwood and January Jones... Backstage I saw Bruce Willis, Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Matt Damon, Steve Buscemi, Tilda Swinton, Chris Colfer (Glee) and Claire Danes among others. But I will say when I saw first Al Pacino and later Robert DeNiro come backstage, well, words cannot explain...those two are legends!! Another highlight was being in the press room when the ENTIRE cast of Glee came in after their big win...all of them...a huge, excited, loud, very happy group - they were so much fun and everyone in the industry loves Glee so everyone was so excited right along with them - clapping for them, high fiveing them, etc!! All of these moments were great...but NOTHING compares to my encounter with Jake on the red carpet.'

I am so grateful to Lisa for sharing her adventure with us! I'm not mentioning the 75 degrees that she had to endure in LA to bring us her story...

There are more videos from the red carpet here at Access Hollywood and People.

Golden Friends

There are new photos today, courtesy of IHJ, of Jake with some famous friends, including Anne Hathaway, Johnny Depp and the first actor that I ever met - Tom Hanks. I spent a day with him on set in the mid 1990s in Washington DC and so, for me, seeing Jake and Tom together is a golden moment indeed.

The Day After

Jake was seen the day after the Golden Globes out with Marc Silverstein, the husband of Busy Philipps. What a weekend.

Jake Gyllenhaal at the Globes Part 2 - and some new Love and Other Drugs covers and stills

There are some more pictures today from last night's Golden Globes and so we have a chance to catch up with that and some other wonderful pictures courtesy of Eureka and Monica before tomorrow's stonking exclusive Golden Globes report. Yes, tomorrow's post will be like the custard on top of a trifle, the bubbles inside a glass of champagne, the vinegar on top of a plate of fish and chips. In the meantime, let us enter the arena of the Kung Fu Panda Staring Contest as re-enacted by one Jake Gyllenhaal and another Matt Damon.

There is also another photograph of Jake with his lovely escort for the evening, Jenny Lewis...

... and another with the other Golden Globes companion of choice - Bubbly. Bubbly with some sort of silver funnel in it to be precise.

Jake was later seen amongst the party goers scoffing SpagBol at the Chateau Marmont at 4 in the morning. Without doubt, Jake was one of the 7 sexiest guys at the Golden Globes (I think we can narrow it down further than that...).

Many thanks to Eureka for some corking new magazine covers from Spain coinciding with the release there this week of Love and Other Drugs.

We also have some new stills from Love and Other Drugs via Monica. These are such great pictures - I've not posted them all, there are more there. Interestingly, a few of these (like the running pictures) are from scenes that never actually make the movie. Ed, we need them on the DVD.

And finally...

Duncan Jones has been talking to We Got This Covered about his next project after Source Code. It's well worth a read.

Pictures thanks to IHJ, Eureka and Monica.

My review of The Green Hornet is now up at MovieBrit.
