U2 to contribute music to Brothers

Happy Boxing Day! It's the Day After Yesterday - the miles back home have been safely driven, the cheese and the chocolates have been banished and there's nothing left to eat but Christmas Pud left overs, filo pastry parcel things and three bottles of single malt. Fortunately, this day of indigestion and poor TV has brought with it some good news. My favourite band U2 will be continuing their relationship with fellow Irishman Jim Sheridan and are contributing to the soundtrack of Brothers. Yet again, as with almost all Jake's films, this sounds like a soundtrack that will be well worth having.

In March, 2009, U2's new album New Line on the Horizon will be released and on it is the track Winter: 'Echoes of Simon & Garfunkel in this poignant, acoustic string laden ballad about a soldier in the snow of Afghanistan. Due to feature in the new Jim Sheridan film, Brothers, starring Tobey Maguire, about the emotional fallout of the war. Edge on backing vocals with Bono for Winter.'

Personally, as a big fan of U2, I usually remember their tours by how many hours I spend on the phone failing to get tickets, but one of the perks of Jake Gyllenhaal's job is that he can always get them (frontstage and backstage). The last time was on 1 November, 2005, when U2 played the Staples Center in LA as part of their Vertigo tour. On Conan O'Brien, shortly afterwards, Jake enthusiastcially remembered Bono and the Edge duel with Send In the Clowns. Here is a video of this moment from the tour, but from Madrid.

Hello, WDW and everyone!

U2 track sounds great, I've been to their concert, love them, but: when is the Brothers' premiere? I've heard recently that the British premiere is in February. It was suppossed to be Cannes, right? Has it been changed? Does anyone know anything?

I'm going to play some PoP tonight. I'm in the mood for the Prince. WDW, have you bought the newest game yet? I need a new gamepad since I play on laptop and they promised a totally different game with new moves. Yes, I'll definitely need a gamepad to be able to handle and tame this wild blue-eyed boy:)

Hi Zodiac! The february date for Brothers in Britain is a left over date from when it was believed that it would open in the US this December and I bet it will change. The other dates are newer. Sheridan said he expected an August release which ould mean a Cannes premiere, but it could mean Toronto instead. we shall see! But at least we know it's coming :D

I've not got the new PoP game yet because I could only play it on my PC and I got a wii for Christmas! I hope it may come out on the wii as I don't think my PC graphics are up to it. Shame it's not out on PS2 as well. I've just been Mario Karting :D I'd love to take Jake on!

Good night, wet dark!

I like the songs of the U-2, mainly in the 80s and 90s.
The Joshua Tree is perfect!

I hope the music of Brothers is very good!
Thanks for the information.:):)

Hi Monica! Joshua Tree is one of my favourite albums, just behind Achtung Baby. I think this bodes well for the film - the time will come, at last. I hope you're feeling well today :)

Hello ladies,

Wow! U2 + Jake + Jim Sheridan, sounds like a perfect match.

Actually I was asked this week by a bunch of family teenagers (who admire me the most, since I'm the old aunt with a childish smile and I think pretty much like them, just with some extra background.LOL!), who would be the perfect man, if I could create one. The subject came up because some of the girls have read the Twilight series and, you know, Twilight fans have troubles finding a perfect man after Edward Cullen was brought to life.

I did not have to think and my answer was sharp: "When Jake Gyllenhaal meets Edward Cullen, and Bono. Not necessarily in this order".
Some of them just yelled: BONO??? And I go: well...let him sit there and whisper me some song lyrics...that's all I need from him. ;)

What kind of aunt my nieces have as a model? Jeez...

Hi there Acquaalta and welcome! It really is great news. I love U2 and this just makes me want to see Brothers even more :D

Hey Monica O! Hope you're having a good hol :D I must go and see this Twilight movie sometime! I feel just like you about Bono - loved him for more years than I care to remember. I reckon your nieces are very lucky :)

Hope everyone's having a good day - I've been sorting out all my Jake videos on my laptop - it's taken hours!

Hi WDW, hi fellow Jakeys!

Uhm, sorry I didn't properly introduce myself. Jake in combination with U2 was just too much.
I've been a lurker here for ages, probably nearly since the beginning.
And I love this page. It's a fixed bookmark and I visit every other day. I should have thanked you a lot sooner ... well, a big thank you now.
I guess some of you know me from the lashers, I think I know some of you from there at least.
And today I couldn't stop myself from de-lurking since the news were so exiting. I just discussed with a friend some days ago that U2 should really get a new album out soon ... and Jake a new movie ... and here we go!!! I've seen the Vertigo-concert in Munich and it was breathtaking. I can't wait for the next tour and the next album and Brothers .... :)

No WDW! Don't do that!
Just read the books. The 4 of them.
The movie is not close to good. I mean...not for adults, and it tells so little of the good parts.

Seriously...It's not close to the adaptation one could dream of. I watched and even liked it a little, but I'm sure If I had not read the book I'd find it just a waste of time.

Hey Acquaalta! I'm so glad you delurked to introduce yourself (thank you U2 :D) and I hope you'll come back. That's great to hear you've been reading for so long! And I do agree abut U2 - I have almost every song they've ever done and I definitely want a new album - about time. Good to see you!

Hey Monica O :D I'm hoping to get time to go to the pictures tomorrow and I think I'll take your advice and see something different. Interview with a Vampire is on here tonight and I think I'll stick with that vampire pic :D
