The Golden countdown - time to polish those shoes

With just hours to go, the stars of Hollywood are all, as we speak, ironing frocks, working out how the trouser press works, polishing shoes, straightening hair, curling hair, applying eyelashes and nails, and getting those last weekend chores done about the house before heading off to the Beverly Hilton for glitz and nosh.

Edited to add the running order: Jake will be introducing David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which makes the Fincher Fangirl in me very happy. Maggie is presenting the award for the TV Movie or Miniseries Actress alongside Aaron Eckhart.

This is one of those years when we have eyes on both the presenters and the nominees, with Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal lined up to present, and Heath Ledger, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Sam Mendes and David Fincher among those who may go away with metalware (redesigned for 2009). You can see a full list of the nominees here, now that the embarrassing gold winner's star has been removed from Anne's name (there may still be time to put some money on that one...).

I have stayed at the Beverly Hilton myself a number of times over the years and I can vouch for its food (especially on Fridays) and, tonight, there are some treats in store for the hungry celebrities. Here's the menu. I'm counting on Jake saving us some Golden chocolate Globe dessert with organic yogurt pistachio mousse and I'm sure he can sneak some Asian spice marinated sea bass into his pockets.

Although the Globes themselves announced the end of the Golden Globe Goody Bag back in 2007, that doesn't stop companies from making generous gifts, and there is no shortage of swagger on offer for those stars who do the party and reception circuit during this GG weekend. I wouldn't mind a pair of the adult-sized footies pajamas (or six days in Tahiti for that matter.) I appropriated a goody bag at the Beverly Hilton once - it had a bit of soap and a doglead in it. As mentioned in this article, there was a reception for Jim Sheridan and Eva Mendes last night but, although Tobey Maguire turned up, his Brothers' co-star didn't. With Maggie in town for the Globes, it's nice to imagine a family get together took place instead.

So, time to sit back and wait to see what happens, and enjoy our first glimpse of Jake on the public stage, for such a long time. I hope everyone has a good night! Fingers crossed for Heath.

I just want to wish Jake and Heath good luck for tonight. Hope Jake gets his words out and I really really hope Heath wins though it will make me cry to see his name read out (even just as nomainted, but hopefully as winner too) and not have him there to accept and enjoy it.

Guess I'll find out tomorrow and hope there are some good videos.

Oh Please, please, please polish those boots. Jake looks so polished until you pan down to the scuffed boots. I read someone said here's the Lady and the Tramp. I hung my head, Jake I love You Darlin' but people look at your shoes.

Hi Gail! I reckon Jake could be polishing those shoes as we speak. Maye it'll be a rerun for those wonderful shoes he wore in Cannes. Bow tie or not? Hmmmm.

Just updated the post with the running order :D

I'm unnaturally excited about the Golden Globes. I just hope Heath wins, because otherwise people are going to wonder why I'm so sad at school tomorrow. :(

GOOD LUCK HEATH!

P.S. -- My word is "demented". That's what I will call the Golden Globes if Heath doesn't win.

When thinking about Heath Ledger both about his carrière and his unfortunate end, one should not forget the movie "The Order", or "Sin eater" in some parts of the world. I have seen it and I cannot understand why Heath chose to play. It it one of the most intellectually tricky movies I have seen with a lot of mumble-jumble religious lines that do not hold together. But the whole theme is to investigate the dark side of man and his/her relations to the supreme good or evil forces in the world. A theme that comes again in "The Dark Knight". I believe there was, at least in Heath own mind, a straight line from "The order" aka "Sin eater" to his performance in the movie I am shure will score the most prices in both the GG and the AA.

Hi Gail! I can't wait too - if Jake's just introducing a film, we might not see much of him but it will be so good to hear him speak :D

Night Monica! Thanks for the link :D I have everything crossed for Heath.

Hi Bandgeek! ooh great word :D Mine is natise which sounds like a pasta sauce.

Hi there Anon :D I haven't seen those films myself. Heath's career was full of intriguing choices. It's a shame that this is only being recognised now, but TDK was such a performance, he would be receiving the acclaim now whatever the circumstances. Just amazing and I hope we see a reward tonight :)

I am guessing Jake won't wear the beanie with his tux. God I can't wait to see live hair. I hope I do.

Wishing tons of luck to Heath (big luck to him, wish he was here), Jake and Maggie.

CCBB was excellent, highly recommend.

Btw HERE is video from the big GG pre-party the other night and every name you can think of was there. Jake and Reese whizzing by in their car and Jake burns rubber. The paps get more insane as the night goes on so I don't blame Jake at all.

Hi all. Haven't been able to post in awhile as I have had major problems with my internet connection over the last few weeks.

I'm really looking forward to the globes. It's great that both Jake and Maggie are presenting. Just wondering if the awards are going to be on English tv during the week?

Best of luck to Heath tonight. I really hope he gets the acknowledgement he deserves.

I also want to shout out for a former neighbour of mine Jonathan Rhys Meyers for his nomination for the Tudors. He'is a genuinely nice unassuming guy and had a difficult
time last year when his Mum died. Fingers crossed for him:)

Enjoy the show everyone and have a great evening:)

I don't blame Jake at all.

Oh really, why? Is Jake more important and talented than anyone else at that party so he gets a special pass? It was a CAA work party and paps were expected. EVERYONE in the vid was polite and accommodating to the paps except Jake and Reese. Jake was disrespectful, rude, angry and driving dangerously. There's no excuse for that.

Seeing how rudely he behaved in that vid, I'm losing interest and respect in him real fast.

AAAHHHHHH! I can't watch the Golden Globes! I'm gonna miss everything! I'm going to be... OUT OF THE LOOP! *breaks down and cries*

Sorry.

So happy Heath Won. And Jake looked so good for a brief time. I will have to rewind to see him again. It was just way to short.

More than disappointed, there are plenty of pictures of Jake arriving where he does seem to be in very good spirits with the paps. You can think less of him or think he was rude but I don't.

Anyway, Jake looks beautiful at the GG awards. He cut his hair a bit and looks amazing in his tux.

There was also just a great clip when they were going to commercial of Jake talking to David Fincher.

Morning everyone! New post up...

I totally agree with Get Real about the exit from the CAA party. It was mayhem, with the paps in a very confined space.

Good to see you Carol! I'm glad you can comment again :D My local girl Kate Winslet did well last night!

Hey Bandgeek - there are videos up now :D It is hard not being able to watch it live - I felt the same.

Hi Gail! Way too short...

Morning Get Real! Thanks for the video link. I'm glad you enjoyed the film, I'm seeing it in a few days and I'm really looking forward to it. jake looked simply stunning and I am so happy Heath won!

A great way to start a wet and windy day... :D
