Relaxing with Jake - and three years ago today a life changed

Three years ago today (29 January), I went to see Brokeback Mountain, and I could have had no idea what those two hours would mean for the future of my life - in terms of life decisions, friendships and priorities. And, on top of that, the excitement and thrills of three years of adventures involving one Jake Gyllenhaal. So, tonight, thanks are due to Jake, to Heath, and to all those who created and shaped Brokeback Mountain, for the changes they made in me. And love to all who have shared a similar journey.

A time to relax

After a strange couple of days for Jake, during which his patience has been tested, his boredom threshold challenged and his attempts to go incognito foiled, I wish Jake a day or two of easy living and relaxation, complete with candlelit scented baths and a long movie, watched stretched out on a comfy sofa. Tonight, I thought I'd take a look at some of the ways in which Jake has relaxed in the past - most of which involve a shopping trolley, a furry coat and a vigilant ear, and a plate and glass of the best.

So, to relax the Gyllenhaal way, you might want to head for the shops - to buy clothes or strange items for the kitchen.

Stroke something furry.

Take time out - for a meal, to chat to a friend or just to watch the world go by.

Thank you for sharing your BBM moment with us. I, unfortunately, never got to see BBM in the theater. The closest I got was at a Brokie gathering I went to and we watched it on a 42 inch TV

I first saw clips of the Dozy Embrace scene and wanted more. then on April 4th 2006 (Heath's birthday) I finally got to see it on DVD. and fell in love with two lonely cowboys.

And got my first look at Heath and my second look at an older Jake (I first saw Jake in October Sky) I couldn't get enough of them and had to see all their films.

on another note, That pap got too close to jake. He did not intentionally mean to kick him. What did he expect was going to happen when he was practically right up Jake's ass. As far as the spitting vid. I can't tell if Jake was just spitting (I noticed guys tend to do that more so than women) or if he was indeed expressing his displeasure at seeing that pap filming him. I mean Jake is human and I know I'd get pretty disgusted if everywhere I went there were the paps clicking away or taking vids.

Sigh. I remember seeing Brokeback on Jan. 6, and I've never been the same either. Just what the doctor ordered; relaxing thoughts of the beautiful BBM moments, and a SALE somewhere! And t-shirts being removed . . . ;)

Sorry for the typo, make that Jan. 1 - so there's no way I could ever forget when I saw Brokeback for the first time. The dozy embrace is one of the most beautiful and bittersweet scenes I've ever watched in a film.

There's no way to know what actually transpired with the paps at the courthouse, so Case Dismissed! for lack of evidence as far as I'm concerned. ;)

Love today's pet pics too - pets are always relaxing, with their unconditional love.

Hi there Sweetpea :D I can't believe it's three years... I saw it three times in one week and then during Oscar week BBM had a limited release again and I saw it again. I've never felt like that before and I don't expect to again. I definitely want to cut Jake some slack for these past hard days and so my post was all about giving him a rest :) Good to see you!

Hi Anon :D what a way to start a New Year! I remember the first time I saw the dozy embrace and I still don't feel up to describing that moment!

I love those pics of Jake with the sale signs - and I always love pics of Jake with Atticus - a dog with real character by the look of him. And I adore the pic of Jake with the kitten :) Jake and small, cute furry animals - it's too much!

Awwww, Kate, my BBM anniversary was only 1 week before yours: January 22nd. What was once one of my most favorite dates of the year is now one of the worst dates ever. Believe me, it's not a good thing having your BBM anniversary on January 22nd. :(

Thanks for yet another wonderful post and happy anniversary!

Hugs,
Lisa/BBMISwear

P.S. This is my first official post to WDW after reading it daily for how long?!?! Whooowheee!!!

OMG Whooowheee indeed!!!!! Lisa! Absolutely delighted to see you post here, my friend! I'm giving you a big (((hug))) right now, I hope you can feel it.

But 22 January as your BBM anniversary? - that's enough to draw a lake of tears. An extra hug for that, Lisa xxx

Happy Anniversary!

it's very interesting that every Brokie remembers how it was the first time they watched the film... it's like we could form a society like Alien abductees!

Mine is 3rd January... and I remember feeling numb and couldn't speak for a couple of hours afterwards (luckily I watched the film by myself and didn't have to make conversation with anyone)... the film hasn't left my mind for a single day since...

Thanks Winterbird! It's a strange thing that I can remember this anniversary and yet I've forgotten most of the others in my life - I guess this one meant something.

That first week for me, seeing BBM in the cinema, was a very solitary experience. I could barely talk to a soul for days. I remember sitting in my car after the first time I saw it and then driving home after a long cry, listening to the blues. Not a good time. It took a while before I realised that BBM was fixing things, not breaking them.

We were all on our own then - now we're not :)

Yeah... It's already 3 years since I first saw Brokeback Mountain, the first time with Jake and the second time with Heath (the first was A Knight's Tale). And it's already 3 years since I fell in love with a beautiful man named Jake Gyllenhaal :) Look how time flies...
Thanks for sharing your memories with us.

Hi there Nezuko :) Three years... the years are passing and it means just the same. I fell for Jake with TDAT but BBM was something else and made me re-evaluate the big things in my life. Not an easy experience, but I'm grateful for it now.

After BBM, Knight's Tale is my favourite Heath film - I just love it! It would've been I'm Not There but I still can't bear to watch that again (I first saw it two days before Heath died). I love to watch Knight's Tale though :)

You're so right, the time just flies! And here we are still!

I saw it the first week of January. Felt off balance and kind of numb after seeing it. It made me cry. A lot. Two weeks later I had to see it again. I was a Heath fan. All his films to that point. I'd seen Jake in OS and TDAT, and liked him, but after Heath re-introduced us, I fell doubly in love.

BTW: Dirt Music, Heath's Australian movie, is back on track, and Colin Farrell is still attached. (Heath had dropped out.) Colin was going to be in I'm Not There. He checked himself into rehab instead. Got Heath to replace him. Now Parnassus. So things come full circle. I've seen pictures recently, but who knew theywere friends! Makes me smile. I think sometimes we thing of Heath as angsty when he really was probably a lot of fun.

Thanks so much for that, Anon! What a lovely comment. I didn't realise all that about Colin (one of my top 5 actors). I do agree that Heath was a lot of fun - his eyes had a spark to them. It is so good to smile about Heath too :)

So glad to hear this - I thought this would make a fantastic film. I was numb after seeing Brokeback the first time - couldn't even leave my seat. Never had seen such an extraordinary film, or very rarely. On my second viewing, I cried buckets.

So good to see you, Shy Anon :D The first time I saw BBM, I can't remember too much - I do remember the thunderbolt of the deceased card. Otherwise my main memory of that night was sitting in my car for a long time. I remember that quite a few people at work were talking about BBM, some not getting it at all, others wanting to talk about it - while another girl there filled her computer desktop with pictures of Jake. I've not known this with any other film.
