Juror Jake no more

Today, 28 January, Jake Gyllenhaal turned up for his second day at a court in downtown LA to determine whether he should become a juror in a battery case. Demonstrating why it's not particularly easy for the famous and distractingly hot to do their judicial duty, the paps were ready and waiting for Jake when he returned from a lunchtime break and raced him to the door, claiming that Jake gave one of them a kick in the shin. My heart bleeds... not.

Spitting and kicking? Whilst I dont believe he actually kicked out it's still not been a great day for Jake. I know the paparazzi must be really annoying but I'd like Jake to rise above it and hope the attitude was a one-off bad (hair?) day.

Hi Anon :) I don't believe Jake kicked out either and I didn't like to see Jake running for the door like that. Jake looked stressed to me - fortunately, this was one minute out of one day. Jake generally does rise above it and he has a great attitude - I think this whole court thing is just so out of the box.

i think jake just got so frustated with the paps chasing that he just lashed out unintentionally imo he ususally just ignores them

Hi Anon :) This looked like a stressful moment to me and I don't think Jake kicked out - these paps wanted a story. My Protect Jake instincts definitely came out when I saw that video!

I watched the video too and it looks like the pap was so distracted by his camera that he didn't pay attention where he was stepping. Jake definitely had his back to the pap when the supposed "assault" took place. It was the pap's fault.

Jake wasn't being chased he was in a hurry before the doors were locked and he would have to do jury duty again! You can tell he was in a hurry because he put both backpack handles over 1 shoulder not 2!

Yes, he was obviously in a rush, and shame on the dumb paparrazzi for getting in his way. I don't think it was Jake, I think the pap ran into the door. Dumb!

One thing is sure. They will lock those doors and then you are in trouble! I did jury duty once and we'd get sandwiches and eat right outside on the steps so we wouldn't have to go far. Of course it was summer.

But Jake is in LA so how cold could it be. I don't guess he would want to just hang out at the court house much, tho. Sorry, Jakey. If TMZ tries to sue him, their own tape will give them away. I hope they don't start getting rougher on Jake to get revenge.

Good morning everyone!

Hi there Jake is late! You're so right about the backpack :D Maybe he was reading the paper and suddenly realised the time and had to leg it!

Hi Wildflower :DI had no idea that they locked the doors - no wonder Jake was running and good job he's had all that running training! But yeah, definitely all the pap's own fault.

Have a good day everyone - Jake can have a 'normal' day today :D

I don't know... if I am just trying to do my civic duties and the paps are making a big deal out of it (as if you don't get enough stares inside the court room already), I'd feel kind of embarrassed about it... I guess Jake must be uncomfortable, it's different from doing the normal coffee runs and knowing you'll be papped and PR approved etc. The guy was trying to be a normal citizen...

Jake should have hired me, I'm so good at "accidentally" step on people's toe with my heels...

Hi WDW and everyone. :)

I think Jake is actually in a hurry in the video but he does seem to be more than willing to kick those paps in the ass. I know I would.
But really it's impossible doing your own duty as a private cityzen facing such a mess. Of course he's been excused.

I'm starting to get tired of all this paps crap, Jake. I want to see you promoting a movie, damnit. I want to see you doing your own thing.
I bet you're tired too.:)

I pray for Summer (Fall?) to come soon...

Have a good day. :)

Hi winterbird! Yes, very awkward. Hopefully today, Jake can enjoy some of the bonuses of being a hot, sexy moviestar. I think he should go for a run :D Ahhh, you and your high heels!!

Hey Xenia :D I think it's impossible to be involved in jury service when you're being stared at all the time and facing this everyday. I absolutely agree with you about a film - I want to see Jake doing what he's paid to do and I'm sure Jake will be relieved when Brothers and Nailed come out. So yes, roll on the summer.

Hope everyone's having a good day - no rain for a change :)

Hi WDW, I actually found the kicking of the pap more amusing than the spitting incident. What does that say about me? Oh dear. Both slightly depressing but amusing incidents, depending on the mood. I agree with previous poster - I do hope the paps don't start to get back at him as a result. TD.

Hi TD! I agree with you about the spitting - ugh! But yes I hope the paps don't get mean... It's been a very odd couple of days, that's for sure.

I don't see any kicking. I see an annoying, numpty pap not looking where he is going and getting too close when Jake opens the door. I'm glad he's been excused. It's not fair on anyone involved to have that kind of distraction outside the courtroom.

My word is 'ballagg'. Hmmm......

One question is: who on earth had decided to summon Jake Gyllenhaal to court?

God, you have to know he is bound to have a hard time while being inside this mess: people staring at him, paps attacking at the entrance, shouting. He is nervous, he is kicking, he is spitting, his testosteron going off charts. He's a man, after all and he has balls. Excuse my language.

To raise above it? Imagine yourself in such a situation.

I very rarely feel sorry for him but today is the day.

Hi WDW:)

I have to say that the spitting incident was not good. It definitely wasn't one of Jake's best moments but the so-called kicking incident was totally down to the paparrazi.

He should have rose above them and to be fair he usually does but everyone has an off-day sometime and it was an unusual situation.

I agree that the paparazzi could get a bit nasty towards him after this. But I do hope not.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Rubes! I'm glad he's been excused too - you can just imagine the games the paps would have played with him :( Hope you're having a good day1

Hey Zodiac! Good to see you :D I think the summons is automatically generated but it's good that now it's an end to it. I know exactly what you mean - my protective instincts are on full alert.... I hope things are good with you *)

Hi Carol! Posting at the same time :) I do think that normally Jake is very good at handling the pressures and stupid questions of the paps, but this looked a pressured moment and I'm glad Jake's out of it now.

That pap was really up on Jake and I don't see Jake doing anything but being in a hurry to get back to the building. You do only have a certain amount of time for lunch break and you have to be back at that time to get back into the jury pool.

Jake was not having the best of days and it did seem he did spit to make a point to the paps. Luckily he did get out of jury duty. Hope we see him in a better place, with less annoying paps, very soon. Like tomorrow, when he is supposed to give the Fincher tribute.

Hi Get Real! Ooh, thanks for the reminder about the Fincher thing tomorrow night - I really hope Jake has a wonderful time (and we get some pics :D)

I hope we hear more on the Fincher thing too - I recently saw Benjamin Button and was totally blown away by how good it was. A work of art. He's one of my fave directors now. I'm willing to cut Jake some slack on this recent stuff, I'm sure he's not immune to having his feathers ruffled on occasion.

Hi Anon! Thanks for that comment - I agree with you on every count. I've seen Benjamin Button twice now and it's wedged itself in my imagination. An amazing film.
