Battle of the Sexes - Sex and the City or Sex on Two Legs

Someone somewhere seems to be labouring under the misapprehension that Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is not for the ladies. Someone somewhere believes that women prefer shoes and no-detail-is-too-small accounts of sexual frolics to Jake Gyllenhaal's chest embiggened on a 20 foot theatre screen for two full hours.

Warner Brothers, brazenly ignoring the fact that women only went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic because of its Prince of Persia poster glimpse, has opted to release the second Sex and the City movie (entitled Sex and the City 2) on 28 May 2010, the same day as the movie that Gyllenhaalics, gamers and all people who have blood flowing through their veins have been longing to see since its cruel postponement.

But for all those ten people who fear they may undergo a conflict of interest on 28 May - a moment's hesitation when standing before the publicity poster of four women and their handbags on one side of the ticket desk and a poster of a half naked, sword wielding Jake Gyllenhaal on the other side - here are some reasons why PoP will give you all you need.

If you want shoes, Prince Dastan does not always go around bare - he has boots. Not only are they sexy, they're also practical and hardwearing. Although designed for desert conditions, they would be perfectly at home in the city, whatever the weather. They also have a retro look about them - very chic.

Fashion is important whether you're a 21st-century business woman in the city or a 6th-century prince in Persia. If you want to be a leader, to be a power player, you have to get the look right. Obviously, for battles, one may want a few more leather straps, a few more metal studs, but for down time, for those plunges into fountains and oasis springs, or for relaxing under billowing silks and a red setting sun, less is more.

Handbags are for the past. Why have a handbag when you can have a handy pouch, or a horse saddle?

Don't talk to the prince about shopping for accessories - he'll rave for hours on the merits of his latest necklace, scimitar and multi-purpose glove.

If you want to hear long discussions about sex and relationships gone awry, you don't need SATC2 - just go and see PoP and behold the troubles that this poor prince gets himself into. Not only does he have to grapple with a feisty princess with a wayward tongue, but the object of his desires frequently tries to kill him. That's a bit more serious than anything SITC2 can give you. Not only that, the prince has a plunge pool.

And if it's scraps you're after, never mind the pillow fights or slapped faces of SATC2, in PoP you get full blown desert warfare, you may even get camels.

I don't want to underestimate the appeal of shopping, of meeting friends for lunch or afternoon tea, but the prince doesn't have to worry about hailing cabs, sitting in traffic, waiting in line, or slow service in a restaurant. His honed parkour skills mean he can be anywhere anytime and, if you have bags, the prince has muscles - lots of muscles - big muscles. And he can always give you a lift...

So will you spend 28 May 2010 with Carrie or with Dastan?

Now, I ask you, what would any red blooded Samantha Jones do? Spend May 2010 with Dastan, of course. ;)

Too right, Anon :D The gals will be far too busy swooning over Dastan to catch their own film! And who could blame them...?

Oh dear you ask a monkey to choose between bananas and broccoli...

LOL!

(I choose shirtless bananas!)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Like that, Monica O! I have no liking for broccoli...

*coughs* I have to disagree... who cares about the shoes and rings and togas in PoP when you are looking at that chest and that face? :P

I haven't seen the first SATC movie (I don't see the point, I watched the TV series and I think there's nothing more needs to be said), I think they are reaching to try to do a second one.

PoP is a great excuse for all girlfriends/wives to "pretend" to be sacrificing and sharing their loved one's interest while secretly drooling over the body and face on the screen. *g*

Hey, good point, Winterbird! I'll start planning my speech of self-sacrifice - mind you, I'm not sure Mr WDW will fall for it. I've never seen an episode of SATC in my life, let alone the movie :D

This post again proves your creative genius, WDW! Take something like the release date of SATC 2 and make a great and funny post out of it!!! Thank you!!!

And thank you for "The Pic" last night, LOL!!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! I will have to try and avoid Barack Obama and Angela Merkel getting in my way to a great weekend! Life will be crazy here (close to the Nato meeting) this weekend...

Thanks so much, Uli! I had a laugh doing it :D Oh, yes, that's your pic!

Have a lovely weekend with Brokies and I hope Barack doesn't get in the way :D

LOL Monica O! I agree, there really is no choice to make, is there?

What a yummy post, WDW. I especially liked this: "...for those plunges into fountains and oasis springs, or for relaxing under billowing silks and a red setting sun..." Such beautiful images!

I wouldn't complain if you could find a way to use those close-ups of the Prince every day. :)

I'm not a fan of SATC so there will be no conflict, WDW.

Ah, the riding vid, how many times did I watch that? :D :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ooh thanks, Olympia :D Yep, no competition at all! Believe me, I'll take any excuse to post those pics - I love them!

Hey Nouskie! No conflict for me either - and I hope not for others either :D Oh, that vid is wonderful. A year ago nearly...

I hope everyone is having a lovely evening :D

If you keep posting close up pictures of Jake like this I might not make it to 2010, so your question is moot.

I'm having a "Come to Jesus!" moment...:)

(Plz. No offense intended.)

Ooh blimey, Anon! I hope you're ok :D Just think how we'll have to stand it May 2010!

I was laughing then panting then laughing then panting then laughing then...well, you get the point. This post was GREAT!! I didn't watch SATC on TV nor the first movie nor will I watch the second movie so obviously it's Dastan for me on on May 28, 2010! Hell, even if I did watch all that other SATC stuff I'd still pick POP. Thanks for an extremely entertaining post!!

xoxo

WDW having just recovered from finding myself lying on the floor with a wet face apparently from my own drool, I really must request that you post health warnings. The last thing I remember was trying to form coherent thoughts while viewing the first picture. I think I achieved GUH! then SQUEE!!! and then I must have passed out. I can't thank you enough. :D

PoP.
Just think of all the hype tho in the mainstream media, all the PoP stuff will be aimed at 'fanboys' and all the SATC stuff will be aimed at people who read 'women's magazines'. Since childhood, I could never, ever understand why it was assumed women would want to read magazines filled with pictures of more done up women? Only George Clooney can get me to buy them even now (he's the only man who ever seems to be in them). Baffling. Completely dotty. Gimme male totty! Oh the Prince, the Prince...*sweet dreams*

Good morning everyone! A beautiful day out there :D

Hi BBMISwear! I kinda get the feeling not many of us will be bothering with SATC2 - no competition whatsoever, with all these treats in store - sigh... Hello!

Oops sorry Anon! I hope you're feeling better now and didn't get too much drool about the place :D Just imagine what it'll be like on the big screen! I hope there'll be first aiders...

Yeay TD! Give me male totty above shopping and shoes anyday! It's going to be very interesting watching the advertising campaign for PoP - how will they pitch it? Can't wait!

Have a good day everyone - I have to springclean... :( Although sitting outside with a book and a beer is another option.

I felt a bit conflicted about the timing of this when I heard the news yesterday. As much as I love SATC I think it's been done at this stage. There is nothing left to say.

Really enjoyed the post WDW especially the close ups:)

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine.

Hi Carol! I'm so glad you enjoyed the post. Such a lovely day, but I've spent it springcleaning and clearing out old clothes - I could lie down for a week now! I hope you've had a good day :D
