In the wings and behind the scenes - time to get on stage

If you get the right festival, the right event, you can get far more than the price your ticket promised. You not only get a glimpse through bobbing heads and shoulders of bands more at home in stadiums than muddy or sandy fields, you not only get an expensive plastic pint of beer and fish and chips in cardboard (with ketchup that can't be squeezed out of its plastic). Sometimes, if things go really right, you see a bigger star in the wings than the one before you trying to hold your attention on centre stage. Sometimes side stage is where you want to look.

Who knows who you may meet while popping out for that fish and chips...

Of course, sometimes, side stage becomes centre stage and the cameo eclipses the leading man or lady.

Coachella has come to an end, having been thoroughly enjoyed by the media for its turn out of Hollywood stars. Arguably, the festival has proved a mixed bag of fortunes for Jake Gyllenhaal, with initial fluffy pictures (albeit mixed with the humour afforded by an open fly) replaced by photographs of Jake giving the finger to paps, video of a bum 'pat' and a report (totally unsubstantiated) of narrowly avoided fisticuffs - why anyone would want to talk their way through a concert is beyond me. I'm ready to see more pictures of Jake back at home, or, even better, on a film set - how about a red carpet? We're due one of those.

Ooh, Rufus. Can we have more Rufus, please?

Hey Rubes! Can you believe it's almost a year ago now since we saw Rufus? What a great night, even though I was expecting Jake to come on stage any moment and it just didn't happen - ah well *)

Ruby said...

It's actually nearly two years ago - it was June 2007!
It's about time he played again.

NOOOO!!!! 2 years?? I clearly have Brain Cell Rot - it doesn't feel like 2 years...

bum pat? maybe I don't have to check those out. :P

I have no idea what's going on... I just got back from Greek Easter and said NO to lamb too many times!! Urgh. Why don't they find another kind of meat to celebrate Christ's resurrection?

Anyway... Jake Jake Jake at a concert again?

I miss Rufus... and if Jake has to touch anyone's bum in public, it should be decided on eBay, for charity, you know... I have no desire to watch indecent PDA by celebrity couples.

Too much to catch on... tell me what to avoid getting throw up... I ate too much in Greece! (as usual)

Just to let you no..
the video of Jake patting reeses bum already has 56, 100 views!

haha :P

Hey Winterbird! I hope you had a good break - lots of sun, I hope. I hate to say it (but I will), Greece turned me into a vegetarian way back when - it was the lamb that did it.

Avoid the bum 'pat' but check out Jake buying a hot dog (I love seeing Jake buying food). I didn't get my wish of seeing Jake with the Ting Tings :( Good to have you back!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Erin :D Posting at the same time! - well, I think 7,610 of those were me... not quite believing my poor eyes...

winterbird said...

OK... no to bum pat and yes to hot dog! Thanks for the tips :)

They even served lamb on the plane!! I couldn't believe it... I was like, "don't you know most people only eat chicken or pasta on plane???" I have to avoid Greek airlines next Easter...

Anyway... more catch up tomorrow...

LOL at WDW checking out the video, I think I'll skip this one... tell me when the bum being touched is Jake's (or some other hot guys!!!)

Good night!

Lamb on a plane? That's not good. Mind you, as a veggie, last time I flew, the cabin crew apologised to me for the mushroom pulp that had been squidged into some sausage shape - it was not a pleasant sight. Good to have you back, Winterbird!

Good night, Wet dark!

Rufus is a lovely person. I remember when he came to Brazil and I was delighted with the interview he gave to a television channel. I did not know that his mother is singer too.

Monica said...

Wet Dark, I love the new cd of U2!

pia said...

Friends tell me Reese has just bought a restaurant in East Hampton, L.I., called Blue Parrot. Hmmm! Now what do y'all make of this?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone! Absolutely gorgeous summer day out there - I just wish I was out there in it...

Morning Pia! Yep, groping in public like that, knowing paps are about, not liking it one little bit. Interesting about the restaurant. Good to see you *)

Hi Monica! Ooh, so glad you're enjoying the U2 cd. And another Rufus fan - excellent!

Have a good day everyone :)

Honestly that so-called pat on Reese's derriere didn't seem so obscene to me, and paps are the ones who shouldn't be there, let's say he rested briefly his hand on familiar places.:)

But I agree, no more back-stages or side-stages, I wanna see Jake rocking the stage!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Xenia! I'm just not keen on public groping, irrespective of whether paps are there or not. Admittedly, I am English... ;D

I wanna see Jake rocking the stage too! Maybe he'll become a musical sensation after Damn Yankees!

I hope the weather's as beautiful in Italy as it is here :D

I love that clip with Rufus. Rufus is wonderful. I went to see him last Summer. Even my boyfriend became a fan after seeing him live and we have completely different tastes in music. Rufus if you read this please come back to our shores again soon:)

I'm not too fond of that public groping either. I did like the pics of them at Paul McCartney though. Really cute:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Carol! I think those were at the Jenny Lewis set on Saturday. I'd have loved to have seen Jake at the Macca set :D Oh I must add my voice to that plea to Rufus - I'd love to see him again (especially now I know it's been two years and not just one - sigh.... how the time goes) :D

get real said...

Well, I like seeing Jake all around at the concerts. I love that he is into music and I like his taste.

I saw whatever to the gossip. I care about Jake and the music! ;p I wish he had gone to the Macca show too, but Jenny Lewis is cool. Glad they hung out together afterwards. Seems a lot of celebs went to the shows...cool.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Get Real :D Ooh, I do think Jake has excellent music taste - so many times, I test out bands because I've heard Jake's into them. He's so lucky being able to go to these events and get prime spots! I still haven't seen pics of Anne Hathaway there. Hope it's sunny over there where you are :D

get real said...

I saw one or two pics of Anne looking nice and summery on one of the celeb sites. Sorry don't remember which one.

I meant to say above: I say whatever to the gossip...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Get Real, I'll have a look around for pictures of Anne.

I fear that the tasteless PDA (less a pat, more a medical quest with a digit) was done for the benefit of the Paps - Jake knew they were there and saw it as yet another chance to prove what a hot and happening couple he and RW are (yeah, right!). Just the latest in a long line of pre-planned stunts.:-(

I do wish he'd stop courting such cheap and nasty publicity in this way and concentrate on his stuttering career. He's in danger of losing his kudos as an actor and being written off as just another "celebrity" mired in the sleaze of the Hollywood publicity machine. What a sad prospect!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I think I recognise you.... ;) I don't agree with that prospect happening at all. Jake is a fine actor and I doubt there is very little chance of him being written off. I may dislike the 'bum pat' but to say that this in anyway reflects on Jake's talent and hard work as an actor is totally over the top. The 'stutters' have had little to do with him. You sound like you rather relish the 'sad prospect'.

Upya..... said...

You have no idea how genuinely sad that prospect makes me - I really hope I'm proved wrong!

Because Jake hasn't been seen in a movie for a while doesn't have anything to do (as does his relationship with Reese of which seems to be going just fine)with the perception of him as a good actor.
He is considered to be one of the best younger actors around and it will continue. He has won and been nominated for acting awards in the Indie world and Oscar world and on-line awards since "October Sky". Rem. Esquire and their picking him as one of the 6 best actors of the year for "Rendition".
When "Brothers" is released he will get excellent reviews.
And in a completely different role in "Nailed".
He does what an actor does he takes on different types of roles.
He isn't 30 yet and he has one of the best resumes of any actor - period.

well said anon

Upya said...

You may well be right Anon. But then, as I've just had a distraught friend on the phone telling me she has been diagnosed with cancer, the ups and downs of Jake's career and love-life have suddenly taken on a smaller significance. I gotta go....

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Anon! It's Jake's excellence as an actor that made us fans in the first place and the potential of exciting roles in the future is a big part of what keeps us around (er, plus he's hot). Everything else is a bonus or a distraction. Jake is the finest actor of his generation to my mind, with the potential to become even more than that. It's been unfortunate that Jake's films appear to be routinely delayed - it's not his fault. I'm sure he'll be as glad as us when they surface!

Am sorry about your friend. I also have a friend who is going through the same thing even tho she is miles away she is always on my mind.

checking out the Blue Parrot/Reese rumor, seems to be that Jon Bon Jovi and Ronald Perelman are the ones re-opening the place. so why is the name of RW involved? will check it out when I visit in May. where there is smoke etcetcetc.

I do wish he'd stop courting such cheap and nasty publicity in this way and concentrate on his stuttering career.

Nobody cares what you wish.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I'm sorry to hear about the sadness some people are having to endure.

Hi Pia :D That's a coincidence, I've been talking about Jon Bon Jovi in the new post! Do let us know what you find out (and what the food's like...). It sounds intriguing.

I'm ignoring the bickering...

New pics!

I appreciate your sympathy, WDW, and return yours Anon 18.01. I'm so sorry that your friend is going through the same trauma as mine. I'm sure your support is invaluable to her/him and I'm trying my best to help my friend through this too. My very best wishes and prayers for you both.

Sorry to veer O/T WDW. You're right,Jake is hot...and life's too short for bickering...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Upya - no worries :) Jake is my happy distraction from daily worries and monotonies and this place is my refuge. I don't want anyone to fight or be unhappy here. We're never gonna agree with him all the time (well, we don't even know him, so it's hardly likely!) and we're not going to agree with each other all the time. But I do know that the positives are huge and this is a great community to be a part of. I just want to build it up and not knock it down.

As you say, life's too short - I'm very sure you're providing your friend with some much valued support. Thanks for your generous comment :) Please forgive my waffling one! Jake is hot...
