Moonlight Mile Road Trip, Part 1 - Bench Hunt

It's not often that I can say that I've done a post while sitting on a balcony in warm night air, the ocean a few feet away. And, although it's now dark, the sound of the waves is everywhere and one of the few lights to be seen is from the lighthouse, just to the left of me. Actually, part of that is because half of my hotel has power failure... Tonight I'm just outside Gloucester, Massachusetts, deep in the heart of Moonlight Mile territory, and today was all about benches. But not just any benches.

Bench One

Initially, this bench could have been seen as a disappointment.

But, on reflection...

Bench with a view

The Post Office

Other Moonlight Mile views and memories from today.

You can't come to Gloucester without having a beer at the Crow's Nest - just think George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Perfect Storm. This bar sells both types of beer, Bud and Bud.

Pictures from IHJ and WDW. Bench modelling by BBMISwear. This post would not have been possible without the impeccable and amazing planning of said bench modeller.

This trip looks great. Must be nice to visit the locations of one of my favorite movies ever.

When you're shooting, never forget the feet!

My friend found this:

So good to see you, Monica! I never thought I would ever see the Moonlight Mile locations and yet here I am. Jake has yet again led me to a beautiful place that maybe I would never have visited otherwise and I'm here with a good friend I made because of Jake :)

I love that pic! Thanks for the link!

Take care, Monica, my thoughts are with you xx

Bertie! Great to see you :D I know what a big fan of Moonlight Mile you are. Those benches, sitting on those benches... BBMISwear is incredible. She found them and I have no idea how. I don't think it was easy. And how she found that post office! We went there, not knowing it was the right one, and then looked in and, well, wow! Clearly the right one. We'll be back there tomorrow when it's open. It's so exciting!

Now, see, drinking at the Crow's Nest, that's my kinda road trip pit stop! Keep 'em comin', WDW. This is nicely done.

Wonderful pics! It looks like the two of you are having a great time!!

How did it feel to sit on the exact same bench Jake once sat on? LOL!

Wow, the post office really looks the same as in the movie! Will you crawl over the counter tomorrow? Just tell the post office people why you have to do this - I am sure they'll understand! :D :D

Looking forward to more pics from your wonderful trip!! Maybe Jake'll be back to MV to pose in his beach shorts for you! :)

Take care!!

I am still reeling from our Moonlight Mile Day 1! We had so much fun (and yes complete with pit stops for beer)!

After extensive research to find that bench on the hill I found the name of the park and was getting very close but then was told by someone at the Gloucester Chamber of Commerce there was no such park..."Oh Yes There Is", I exclaimed!! And the research continued...and paid off.

LMAO at Uli's comment about crawling over the counter at the post office when we go back today...this is exactly what I said I was going to do and WDW looked a little frightened at the idea but said she is happy to take the picture and then suggested that I may not want to wear a skirt on Moonlight Mile Day 2! I hope they have a bell I can borrow. I'm considering bringing my dog.

MM is one of my most favorite movies ever and it's so great to see that many of you here feel the same!

Well, I guess I should go get organized for today...off to Marblehead after the post office. I keep thinking that I could have done these sites any other time but it wouldn't have been half as special without my favorite 'Jake Mate'!

More later...

P.S. So very good to see you here Monica...and great Proof set picture!

:-)

Wow, this is so great! Love all the scene recreation pictures. When you posted the one of Joe crawling over the counter of the post office, I was so hoping the next one was you or BBMIswear redoing this scene! :DDD I love MM and I`m very impressed that BBMIswear found all those places. I see this is part 1, can't wait to see the rest.

Hi, (((Monica))). I hope you`re well. This picture is new to me. Thank`s for finding it.

Have a great day everyone!

What fantastic pics!!1 You ladies look great in all the MM spots....and the bench, omg!

Glad to see you guys are having fun. :)

I have a very heavy heart today though, Ted Kennedy, one of our true greats is gone...RIP Lion of the Senate. :(

Good morning everyone! Looking over the sea on a beautiful hot day, sadly the flag is at half mast. I was sorry to hear about Ted Kennedy. End of an era.

Good to see you all!

Rob you would soooo liked the Crow's Nest. I think it's important to research as many movie watering holes as possible. I'm learning a little about US benches too. Apparently we all call them the same thing... makes a change.... :D

Hey Uli! Good to see you! Thanks for the comment on the beach post too :D Jake looked gorgeous! And he's not far from our minds on this trip I can tell you. I can assure you that BBMISwear has counter climbing plans. We may need to borrow a cat...

Morning BBMISwear! I hope you've got you counter climbing shoes on this morning:D I can't believe you found the post office and the park!! And you organised hot weather too! Now all we need is for Gloucester to get some signage. It's a well known fact that 9 out of every 10 cars in Gloucester is lost. See you soon!!!!!

Hi Olympia! Let's hope you won't be disappointed and I capture the moment for eternity. I will probably frame it. Glad you're enjoying the reconstructions. I have a new talent, saying 'left a bit, a bit more, duck a bit'. I must be channelling Brad.

Hey Get Real! We're having a great time! My dad emailed me to say he was perplexed by the benches. He supposed they must be something to do with Jake. It is sad news this morning.

Off to look at the sea before Moonlight Mile Road Trip Part 2! Have a good day everyone :D

I've never been to Gloucester, but I've been to Salem, which is not far away. I never expected to see WDW sitting on the *same* bench that Jake and Dustin sat on in "Moonlight Mile."

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Paul :D We're heading to Salen for lunch. It's incredible that BBMISwear found that bench. In our analysis of Gloucester benches, we did discover that the view was slightly to one side and the back of the bench is from a different bench so some CGI was deployed!

Hope you've not encountered difficulty in Glouchester. The water treatment plant broke down, water's contaminated and bars aren't serving ice.

Ted Kennedy kept right on giving to the last. I admired him. He was constant.

This is very interesting and obviously involved a lot of work. many thanks. TD

so cool WDW. I didn't know Moonlight Mile was filmed in Glocester. I've never been to that part of MA. I was in Salem. Are you going to MV? go find his house? :D

looks like you have wonderful weather. you missed seeing Bill pass by for a wave

Hi 17:01 :D The hotel gave me bottled water but otherwise the place looked geared up for it. I've come across so many Ted Kennedy memories today, it's moving for me to be here at this time.

Good to see you, TD! I hope things get easier. I cannot tell you how long these posts take! But it's worth it.

Hey Acquaalta! I hope you like the new pics :) Good luck with the research :D

Welcome back Winterbird - I hope you had a good trip! Take it easy :)

Hi Sweetpea :D Gloucester and Marblehead are just gorgeous!

New post - part 2!

lol, the research went well - once I knew how to spell Gloucester correctly. ;)

And yes - the new pics were great. And you really did the post office stunt. Yay! :)
How great that the people were so helpful and kind. Hope the rest of your time will be equally great.

All the best, B.
