Moonlight Mile Road Trip part 2

Today, the WDW and BBMISwear Moonlight Mile Road Trip continued through Gloucester and Marblehead. with a little bit of Salem's Lot thrown in for good measure and lunch. I am delighted to announce that following yesterday's discovery of the Moonlight Mile post office, BBMISwear did indeed throw herself head first through the hatch. The post office mistress did the only thing she could have done in such a situation - stand well back and take pictures. We thank you, Deb! As recompense we did spend $2 on stamps...)

From Gloucester we took the scenic route to Marblehead (via other places which were in completely the wrong direction). Marblehead was the sight for Dustin's Real Estate office and for the diner across the street. We loved this town - it was quiet, with amazing architecture and with a very friendly bunch of locals. The Real Estate Office is now a toy shop but the girl behind the counter, despite being only 20, remembered the filming well and talked about seeing Dustin in the office. She also gave us the news that the floor we stood on was Brad Silberling's floor. Designed to last three days, it was still under our feet but was soon to be removed. In a WDW exclusive, BBMISwear's feet can be seen here expertly modelling Jake's Floor.

The post and the brick wall have all but been completely disguised by toys but they are still there.

After some long minutes of holding up traffic, we were able to take other pictures of places from the film. The girl in the toy shop remembered the benches that had been removed, the lamp posts that had gone, and helped us place Jake - and us - in the street.

Across the street from the office was the diner where the shooting had taken place. This diner is now a liquor store (their zinfandel is highly recommended and well tasted - let me just take a sip). We went in and the place looked like the interior actually had been used for some of the filming, which was a surprise to us. Yet again, the shop server was only too happy to take some pictures of us.

With the realisation that every town in Massachusetts has at least one Washington Street, we headed for the sea to watch Jake walk on water. These reconstructions placed us in great peril, at the mercy of a sheer two-foot drop.

And a witchy Salem interlude...

We have had the most marvellous reception from the people of the Moonlight Mile towns - as a result I expect rentings of the movie to soar in these towns! Thank you so much for your welcome.

Pictures from IHJ and WDW, with many thanks to the people of Gloucester and Marblehead (with no thanks to the people who design the signage).

What a great tour! I can't believe the post office and everything is there, even the striped canopy! LOL. Amazing that the post office hasn't been modernized (yet). Did you ask if the places were used for other films beside Moonlight Mile? They have so much ambiance and character it would be a shame to overlook them for other films.

You two both look like you're having a blast! I have a feeling Massachusetts will never be the same after you two get finished with it. *wink*

Wait. Is that the same pink Target tee... ?? LMAO

Hi! You two are hilarious!! Just a quick fly by because I am with Antonella (she says hi! BBMISwear doesn't know her though... :))

Please keep up the good work of bringing Jake back to the awareness of people around you!

Good morning everyone! So good to see you all :)

Hey Pia! We are having a blast. I'm so glad you're reading along with us xx

Bubo! Good to see you! We were amazed that the post office was just the same inside, it even had the same wooden table to the side. And the post mistress was wonderful. She was very interested by our pictures from the film and will be renting it very soon :D

It was the same with the girl in the toyshop/real estate office. Very keen to see our pics. She remembered a lot of details from the filming and was one of those peering in the window that Jake and Dustin refer to in the commentary.

We are definitely leaving a trail!

YES! That is the target tee :D

Hi Uli and Antonella :D I bet you two are having a great time too. I'd love to see a pic :D

Hey Rob! You'd both love it! The towns are stunning and the coast is beautiful. And a very impressive range of beers. Colour everywhere. The witchy house was spooky - it was lived in by one of the judges from the trials. shivers...

I'm so glad you're enjoying it, Bertie! I'm going to watch it again as soon as I'm home :)

Hi Winterbird! I like to think that Jake and Brad would get a laugh from it and hopefully get a kick from the warm memories people have for them in these Moonlight towns.

Unfortunately, we may be sharing MV with a hurricane as well as the Obamas! Keep your fingers crossed :)

Hi Gail! That's great you're enjoying our trip with us. I am a big fan of the Sam Adams.

Thanks, TD! It's a lot of fun to share it with everyone :D

I've added a couple more screencaps to the post.

Have a great day everyone! We're off to find a boat...

LOL! Love the post office picture. This is so great!!! It's wonderful that the people in all these places are so nice and welcoming and take the time to talk to you. Was the woman in the post office surprised by your request or is it something that's happened to her before?

Thank you so much for sharing this adventure with us. :)

When I saw "Moonlight mile," I never had any clue that the locale was Gloucester and Marshfield. For all I could tell, the story could have taken place anywhere on the Eastern seaboard from New Jersey to Maine.

I guess I have some motivation for exploring Marshfield and Gloucester, now. :-)

In any event, good work WDW!

Thank you for the link, FF. That was an amazing interview!!! If I wasn't already totally smitten with Jake, I would surely be after reading this. :) I love his choice of questions (I bet he really did spend a lot of time choosing them) and Natalie's answers. Can't wait for the full version. WDW will love this.

LMAO you really went over the counter. That's fab. Amazing. You've got some kahoonas girl :DDD The only thing missing was the dog. Was the bell there? Would have loved to see you both treading the post :DD

Seeing the shots of Moonlight Mile (my favourite Jake movie) and you guys on location is amazing and thanks for taking us along the journey with you.

Love to everyone on the thread and in the pics :) x

My word is shint! :D

I gather you're headed for Wood's Hole. There's a great natural foods restaurant there, for dinner or b'fast - and all the hot young oceanographers.

I guess you'll be able to find out what going on with Chris F. if you hang about the Chilmark country store, you guys seem to be charming the locals right and left.

Keep it up! Must check the weather.

Hi there everyone!

BBMISwear did a great job, Olympia! The post mistress had vague knowledge of the film but that was it, it'sreally out of the way. But she was so in to it.

Hi Paul! You must go and explore :) But it was filmed in Gloucester and Marblehead. Both lovely towns and full of very friendly people.

That is great, FF! I enjoyed reading that.

Thanks fan :)

Hey Sheba! No bell - we did ask! And no dog or cat - no Jake either, sadly :( But so much fun :D It's a pleasure!

Nouskie! *) Really here, can you believe it?

Hi there Pia :D We got the ferry over from Falmouth to Oak Bluffs - stunning! We have some new adventures to tell :D Fingers crossed about the weather...

Have a great evening everyone!
