[Updated] British trailer for Brothers released - and it's completely different

Today we get the first publicity for Brothers for the UK - we may have to wait longer than 4 December (22 January) but it is coming. As happy proof of this we have a new, UK trailer for the film and it is entirely different than the American version - different moments between Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire and new scenes of Tobey's experiences in Afghanistan, bringing the war with a jolt into this winter family drama. Source.

[Update] A new quote from Tobey Maguire suggests that it's not just Jake who gets the credit (or blame ) for films that aren't his. '“I’m told that I’m Jake sometimes,” says Tobey. “I have had comments about Brokeback Mountain a couple of times. It’s strange how that happens but I just go with it. Another one is Elijah Wood. I’ve had times where people ask me for my autograph and then they say, ‘Oh you were so great in that movie.’ Which I wasn’t in! So I just sign that person’s name, and say, ‘Thank you very much’.” Source.

So, if you're having trouble getting a Jake autograph, just ask Tobey, he'll give you one instead!

Morning! This is a corker! Let's hope this is the start of a veritable flood of Brothers publicity here in the run up to 22 January. This can distract us from the film not being out here on the 4th!

And once again a Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate :D

Afternoon, WDW.
Thanks for the UK trailer!
It seems to focus more on the family drama and more on Jake's role, methinks...
With each new trailer, I seem to want to see this movie more and more...
Hugs
Paola

Afternoon, Paola! I like this trailer and I'm looking forward to getting home and looking at it more closely. It definitely makes me want to see it more and more too! I hope you're feeling better *)

Updated the post with a good Tobey quote :D

Thanks for this WONDERFUL UK trailer WDW!! I really love it. I have one concern, though, when I put all these trailers together in my head I am afraid I am getting too much information. I think we've now seen a snippet of every single scene of this movie! I know that's not the case but it *feels* that way, ya know? But I love all that I see and if I can just hang on one more week (and maybe force myself to stop watching all this stuff so I'm at least a little surprised) it will all be good - LOL!! Either way I'm glad Gyllenhaalics in the UK may be getting flooded with more Brothers stuff soon.

Another concern (a somewhat superficial slightly immature one but a concern all the same): The scene of Sam and Grace in bed...could the "legs in bed" scene be Sam and Grace and not Tommy and Grace?! I really, really, really want that to be Tommy and Grace!! (I told you it was a bit immature - ha ha)!!

A message to Tobey: Better to be mistaken as the guy who played Jack Twist than be mistaken as the guy who played Spidey in my humble opinion! :-)

Happy Thanksgiving WDW (you're suppose to be celebrating with us...you forgot to tell your bosses you need the holiday off)?! Bad girl. And the same to everyone here celebrating! Lots of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and pies galore...no pudding and whatever else you listed in your other comment!! Oh and wine...and beer...and my favorite: eggnog and rum! And FOOTBALL. Go Dallas Cowboys (they play every year). What else? There's more...but I've taken up too much space here already.

Have a good day! :-)

Hey, WDW!!!! Thanks for the UK trailer!!! Very powerful. I'm getting crazy waiting for the movie so all clips and trailers are welcome.

Hi all,

Just taking a break from cooking -

I really like this latest trailer too - the film has so many layers, there's a lot going on in it. Tommy has to grow up, Sam has changed as well. Really looking forward to seeing it - I have read some of the reviews, and have tried to skip over and forget anything too spoilery so that I can go in with an open mind. I have a feeling it's going to be even better than I thought, from what the critics are saying.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate,

Bertie

Hi all! I can smell that Thanksgiving cooking from here - if someone can pour me a nice glass of red wine to go with it, I'd be grateful...

I'm very glad to hear you're feeling a bit better, Paola - Jake is such good medicine! He should be bottled and handed out by the Health service :D

Yeay! Thanks for the mega comment, BBMISwear :-) I'm afraid to say that I have always thought that those are Tobey legs. I'm happy to be proved wrong - and I do apologise to Jake if I have muddled up his legs - at least I don't muddle up the faces, eh?! I just love all this stuff :D I'm interested how the trailers differ - do they think we want different things?

I forgot to ask for the day off - damn! I only have 87 minutes (not that I'm counting) left and then I can be a virtual American. That sounds yummy but I'll pretend that's a quorn nut roast you're having and not a feathery friend... (I say 'friend' which I shouldn't because Mr WDW was once attacked by a friend's pet turkey and I had to push it off him with a broom - all because he was feeding pizza to some ducks).

You do know that's not proper football? ;-) Ooh eggnog! Yes please!

Thank you so much, Get Real! I am thankful for the community here so many times over :)

Hi there Benny McGillicuddy! It's a great trailer! Have fun :D

Hey Bertie! Hope the cooking's going well. I do agree - this trailer really shows how the characters evolve and I can't wait to see more of the process. I'm not reading many reviews because I don't want to be too spoiled either.

You lot are making me hungry - I've only got half a banana :(

This trailer is fantastic WDW ! Than you so much for your great work and these fantastic updates!

I am so looking foward to see this film but I fear it will be hard to bear cause the subject is very serious and sad and heart-breaking.

Oh well for Jake I will do anything lol

Tobey and nat together make me feel a strange impression, I undoubtly prefer Tommy and Grace lol, much more chemistry.

Before forgetting, I wish an happy thanksgiving for the american bloggers! AS for me I am waiting avidly christmas time .

What is eggnog anyway? It has never sounded particularly appealing to me.

Happy Thanksgiving, if you are celebrating. Have an extra piece of pumpkin pie for me - now, that's something I do like. :)

I think it's a good trailer! It's interesting that they use very different music score - the US one is trying to drum up more "drama" and "suspense", while the UK one has a serious family drama tone.

Ugh. One downside of these trailers is - I can't wait to watch the film now!!

winterbird said...

We used to drink eggnog around xmas and new year - I hated it. It's cream, egg, milk etc, really like egg mixed with alcohol... urgh. Thanks, I think I'll take my alcohol in a bottle of red.

Well, unless Jake is making it :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica! That's great you saw a poster - I've still not seen one!

Thanks Samothrace! It's going to be a rollercoaster of a film - very moving and a film to remember, I think. I can't believe it's over two years now since we last saw a new Jake film. Way too long!

Rubes! Good to see you :D I've never had eggnog - I've had egg but no nog. I wouldn't mind giving it a go. Pumpkin Pie on the other hand is an abomination!! It's right up there with artichokes - need I say more?

Hey Winterbird! It has a totally different tone - I like it a lot. It also made me feel for all three characters, including Tobey's, whereas the other trailers didn't. I'll take the red as well :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

PS I'd eat Pumpkin Pie if Jake made it... I'd make sure he knew I was suffering while I ate it, mind you.

Ruby said...

Eggnog sounds like it might be nicer without the egg.

The nog is probably essential though.

According to Wiki it probably originated in East Anglia! Conveniently located for the turkey breeding I guess. :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Nog sounds good - I'll have nog.

Watching an amazing David Attenborough programme on animals and their babies - penguins :D Er... Jake is hot.

Hope everyone's having a good evening :D

Hi WDW

I like the British trailer! Now I get it! (kidding, but... maybe not totally ;-) Jan 22nd eh? Huh.

It doesn't take a lot of willpower to skim all the spoilery stuff - no one's likely to ask the questions I want to hear about anyway (Heath, of course) so no worries!

TD, on an honesty kick.
PS, my word is 'misme' - ?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi TD! Good to see you! Personally, I think some questions are best left unasked and umanswered. But I hope we will all enjoy Brothers and Jake's performance.

TDozyo said...

Heya, still online; yeah, I agree really - unasked and unanswered is good I suppose. But it sure can be dull!

I'll be back to my disciplined self tomorrow!

Good night WDW!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I think I like dull in this instance! Night TD *)

Re: the resemblence between Tobey and Jake--- to be honest I see it more with Tobey and Elijah Wood than I do with Jake and Tobey!

Monica said...

I loved this trailer. Is the best of Brothers!
The music and the new scenes are wonderful!

22 January can be a good date. Maybe a premiere of the film in England and an appearance on a talk show!

Please, I don't want to see Jake in a talk show that will show a scene from BBM for him.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Amy! I definitely agree - I can see the confusion between Jake and Elijah more. Of course some people have ocnfused Jake and Elijah which is just nonsense!

Hi there Monica! This is my favourite trailer too - love the atmosphere of it. It could be a good date indeed - I'm really hoping there'll be something over here for it. Jake should have more time then :D A girl can hope... I hope the attention will very much be on the 2010 movies too :)

I hope all our mates on the other side of the pond had a lovely day yesterday! I understand that this is shopping day - is that right? I'm just glad it's Friday despite yet more rain.

Have a good day!

samothrace said...

Jake and Elijah???? oh please no.
On contrary I can see the thing between Tobey and Elijah, rather same weight, same face, same expression.

Jake is different.

samothrace said...

I don't know if some of you can read French but here is a great review from my country :

http://www.excessif.com/cinema/brothers-5563681-760.html

I am not courageous enough to do the translation lol but I can try to give you a summary.
In short the journalist found the movie really humanist, sensitive and moving, adding it's real and beautiful cinema.

About the performances, she is more than enthousiast, according to her the trio is at the top of their art giving subtility, truth and a rare power in the sobriety avoiding cliche and melodramatic exageration.

Great great review.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

hi Samothrace! I agree Jake and Elijah are entirely different :)

Thanks very much for the article. I read some French so I'll have a look at that. I love to see publicity from the film spread out from the US across Europe and elsewhere :D

Thanks WDW for the Brit version of the clip. I wonder why they made a different one. This one was more telling about the conflict between the characters (and Jake is cute when he looks down,it reminded me of Jack Twist)

Hi sweetpea! We usually get different trailers over here - it's interesting how they can have such a different feel to them. I really enjoyed this one :D
