[Updated Update] Prince of Persia trailer - Watch and listen as Jake Gyllenhaal talks British!

[Updated] The trailer has been taken down at the first source - not a surprise. You can now see it here - for the time being. Tweets suggest that the trailer had its TV premiere this morning in Britain, on GMTV, and this is the UK version (hence the use of the word 'cinemas'). If only we'd known.... Screencaps follow at the bottom of the post.

Having now seen the trailer a few times, sitting on the edge of my seat, the sound cranked high on the stereo, breath held in, I have to say that I am very proud of Jake Gyllenhaal. In just two and a half minutes, Jake showed how he'd brought himself into this role, making the prince believable, loveable, that perfect Jake mix of dorkiness, sexiness, humour, strength and gentleness. Warmth. Energy. Passion. The accent is just right - not a cliche. It has depth and colour and wit. He may also have met his match in the feisty princess. The CGI looks good but it doesn't overpower the actors, who play in this incredible landscape as it comes crashing down around them, leaving Jake to leap, roll, somersault, climb, fight and kiss. Bring it on!

At last, and earlier than expected, here is the Prince of Persia trailer! Watch it and listen to Jake Gyllenhaal talk British! Back later after I've taken some deep breaths and lain down for a while in a dark room. Many thanks to the commentor who posted the link! We owe you :)

argh. can't watch it here. need to go home! maybe i'll watch it on my phone...

Thanks Anon and WDW!

Winterbird, you have to see it and listen to it! I can't do it properly either as at work - so frustrating.... But I did hear some of it and the accent is amazing! And lots of flirting and soulful longing looks. And the action. Lots of disguises!

We should all shut offices....

You're welcome!

Isn't his voice wonderful? He reminds me of a classic film star from the classic films - you could fall in love with his voice alone. Is that the second pic the "search me thoroughly" pic? I thought the was cute funny too - who could argue with that? I'll have to see it on television later. ; )

Thanks so much Lovely Anon! It does rmeind me of Arabian Knights - the colours are amazing and Jake looks, well, hot, and I love the costumes. And seeing him leap all over the place. I haven't been able to hear most of it with the sound yet. I cannot wait to do that hte minute I'm hope. The bits I heard are just astounding - really sexy!

Oh I haven't even gotten to the action yet - I love that beautiful diving arc at the beginning - I'll have to study it more later too. :)

Anonymous said...

Gah, he is very sexy in it, you could just have him for lunch. Gotta get back to work tho! :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I love that bit too! And at the end when Jake's avoiding the collapsing building.

Why do we have to work?!!!

Hi 15:49 :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I'm looking forward to seeing the new Avatar trailer too, Anon!

Not yet, Gretchen! But there will be! This is out way early so it's great to have it to keep us going. I bet the trailer will be up on the PoP site tomorrow. Fingers crossed :DD

THANK YOU WDW! I am absolutely gobsmacked!! And delighted. His British accent is that good. Top Kudos Jake... mwah.

To make the screen bigger just right-click and go to full screen. It goes a bit fuzzy but big fuzzy Jake is just so fine to me *giggling like a school girl now*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba! I'm running off home now so I can check this out properly¬! I like te dagger of time special effects too... Back as soon as poss!

BBMISwear said...

Oh.My.God.

*THUD*

*sends smelling salts to WDW and anyone else who may need them*

Going back to watch again...and again...and again.

*gets nothing else done*

That voice...with that accent...I can't come up with any words to describe it.

I might be back later...if I can come up with some words to describe this.

:-)

They must have known I was on the bus home, they took it down :(

Thanks Anon!

I've added some more screencaps to the post.

Gretchen said...

well it looks good.i can't say more about the special effects because i couldn't make out much what with the tiny video size.
the accent sounds great.though Jake sounds like someone else.lol.i was confused at first if it was Jake or not when he talks about how the dagger worked.
but i didn't like Gemma Arterton's narrating.and she sounded so umm rehearsed?i mean banters like that are only good when they sound spontaneous right?to me she sounded like she knew exactly what he was going to say so knew how she'd reply beforehand.eh.maybe she's better in the whole picture.after all i just saw bits of her performance.(i only saw her in Quantum of Solace before so i can't say whether she's any good or not)

there's nothing to criticise about Jake.he's perfect. :] i really love the long hair.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Gretchen! It's so weird, watching Jake speak and then this totally unexpected voice comes out - but he does it so well! Completely believeable and not a cliche accent, at all. Gemma is a wonderful actress - she''s been in some good dramas here, Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Lost in Austin. I think voiceovers are hard but I think she's done a good job. Jake looks amazing - the whole deal. I'm overwhelmed!

winterbird said...

I definite want to see the trailer on big screen!!!

His voice is a lot more matured and "throaty" when he uses this accent. And definitely, not cockney! *g*

I think it's quite convincing, it doesn't sound like any regional one, though not consistently one kind, but maybe more "classical"? Not like I am expert on British accent, I am usually the one going, "huh? what did you say?"... but very well done, Jake! I am a bit "stunned". Can I just say, my knees go weak when he says, "don't press your luck"??

MUST WATCH MANY TIMES AGAIN.

Thanks again!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

It's amazing, Winterbird! We're proud of him, aren't we?! I love the wwarmth and depth of Jake's voice too. It's definitely not cockney. It's a southern accent but it's not a stereotypical one. It's got character. That 'don't press your luck' - OMG...

BBMISwear said...

Can't. Stop. Watching.

Getting nothing (else) done today.

At 1:23: "You're...I...." *THUD*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I know BBMISwear :-) It's just all too much!

I just added to the post with my own view of the trailer. This next week is going to be amazing, and then Brothers will (hopefully) pick up. It's going to be quite a ride!

Carol said...

OMG have been off line all day. Missed everything. Is it still on YouTube.

The screencaps look great. Jake looks gorgeous. I can't wait to hear his accent. My initial reservations about this movie are disappearing fast.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Carol! It's still there for now - the link's in the post! Watch it and let us know what you think :D

I've been watching it a few times. It looks great. I think Jake did a great job with his accent. This was the first time he's had to do a Brit accent. I wonder how hard he found doing it. Heath was the one who had to constantly be altering his accent for roles. He said it was a relief when he did Candy. I wonder who Jake used to help him with his accent.

Heath had a regular voice coach he'd use all the time.

Can't wait for May

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sweetpea :) There is a post on WDW somewhere - can't remember at the moment where - about the person who trained Jake for his PoP voice. They did a good job - as did Jake! I think like a lot of actors Jake may like playing around with his accent - he enjoyed it way back when with October sky.

Carol said...

Finally home and have watched it a few times. I think I need to lie down!!!

It looks exciting. I'm really impressed with Jake's accent in it. It's definitely not cliche. He really looks like he's made the role his own. I'm loving the chemistry between himself and Gemma already. May 2010 can't come quick enough.

I think I need to go and watch it again some more.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I know just what you mean, Carol - not cliche at all! I've just watched it another 5 times in a row, just marvelling at Jake's athleticism, the outfits, his chemistry with Gemma and just the hotness of it all. It's so so good to have all this Jakeness again!

Carol said...

All this Jakeness is great. We been deprived of it for so long.

It's certainly hot and I love the way there appears to be great chemistry between Jake and Gemma. I love the "search me for daggers" bit:) Gemma is such fun. She is fast becoming a huge favourite of mine.

It's great they gave us a full trailer instead of one of those 30 second teasers. Although that would have been better than nothing as we haven't had much in so long.

I booked my Xmas trip to NYC today so I didn't think this day could get any better but this is just the icing on the cake!!!

I can't wait to see this in the cinema. We are going to have some exciting times ahead I think!!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

What a great way to spend Christmas!

This trailer is the perfect mix - it'll keep me going til May, what with Brothers and LAOD too. Maybe even Nailed. Treasure indeed. Good days. I hope Jake is excited by it all too - it's been a while :)

Carol said...

I'm actually going the weekend Brothers is being released in the US at the beginning of December so I will definitely see that while I'm over:)

The trailer and everything that's going on will keep me going til May too. Jake is looking so hot in this movie. I can't take my eyes off him:)

Off topic thanks so much WDW for the Brokeback post last night and all the lovely pictures of Heath and Jake. Always brings back happy sad memories.

OMG!OMG!OMG! This is amazing!!! Love the banter! Love the accent! Love the leaping and jumping! Wow, this really looks good! I've been out of the office all day to a very boring seminar and this is what I come back to? Thank you so much! Now I wish I could cancel my outing tonight to stay in and watch this over and over...

Jake has an exquisite voice but the accent makes it even better. He sounds so sexy! At first I almost didn't recognize him. And I love his smile when he says "you'll have to be very thorough". Gah! I really don't want to see 2012 but it's getting more and more tempting. Imagine that voice and that sexy prince on a big screen. It will be incredible!

*Amazing*... THUD...

Thank you so much for posting this, I couldn't get on the original site, but managed to see the trailer on the second link you gave us.

Thanks, WDW!!!

I loved how he said "turn back time"... that nasal sound of the 'm' in 'time'... gosh... made him sound like a perfectly trained stage actor.
His voice is pure magic, full and warm and strong... gosh, it has a 'purity' to it I find mesmerising.

And he looks so GOOOOOD... the way he moves makes the whole thing seem so smooth and effortless, when it must have actually been extremely hard work to prepare for those scenes...

Love & hugs

Paola :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That sounds good, Carol!

I'm glad you enjoyed the Brokie post yesterday - it felt good to do, the quiet before all this PoP and (hopefully) Brothers excitement.

Hi Olympia! Great to get it early, isn't it! I couldn't get home quick enough. I will definitely be going to see 2012 - I want to see this on the big, big screen :D

Updated the post with the trailer itself :D

I've also watched it over and over again... I don't know how I will manage until May. I suppose only with the help of this trailer.
Thank you, WDW.

Good to see you Paola! Posting at the same time :) They took it off the first site after a few hours but now it's up on YouTube, probably for a short while, but long enough for us to get a look.

Jake's accent does sound quite nasal, deep. Very sexy! I loved the physicality of these scenes too. He does make it look effortless but, yes, we know it was hard work. Hopefully fun too. Over six months to wait - I reckon we'll get treats on the way :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Livia! And welcome :) I think it'll pass quite quickly due to Brothers and everything else going on - and there'll be more about LAOD. Good days :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I've been reading that the trailer actually had its premiere this morning on British breakfast show GMTV - if only we'd known...

JoeAnn said...

WTF?! Jake Gyllenhaal acts in movies too? I was beginning to think he only existed in paparazzi pics. PoP looks like a giant popcorn-tub o' fun. Love the quasi-Brit accent. Love the runnin' and jumpin' and flirtin'. I hadn't realized just how much I missed seeing him on screen, doing actor stuff. It's been a while, huh. I hope PoP makes big bucks and spawns a couple more sequels. :o)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi JoeAnn :D I'm definitely ready for some 'runnin, jumpin, flirtin fun'! I fully intend moving into the theatres for next summer :)

BBMISwear said...

Great review WDW! Bring it On indeed!

I love how with so much wonderful stuff going on Jake-wise today we keep recapping what's to come...more PoP, then Brothers, more LAOD set stuff and then the release of that.

But let's not forget...there's something else on it's way soon...Jake and ELMO!! LOL!! Oh, and the toys...the Prince Dastan toys!! It feels like Christmas and it's only November 2nd!!

Good night Brit friends...how on earth are you going to sleep tonight?! Back to watching the PoP trailer for me...I've seriously lost count! :-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Night BBMISwear :-) What a day. A lot more on the way, like you say. The drought is officially over - and the next treat could be Jake and Elmo! I've seen this trailer so many times this evening I can hardly believe it...

get real said...

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!! Damn does he sounds GOOD!!! I am no expert on English accents but to me he sounds excellent and so freaking SEXY with the accent! And how cool is the trailer...must watch again and again!!! SQUEE.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Get Real! He sounds pretty good to me too - bloody good! I'm surprised I haven't worn this trailer out!

get real said...

Btw, saw the posters for BOTH Brothers and PoP at the movie theatre this weekend. Both in full display!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Omg, that's amazing! I'd love to see a poster of either, but both! I'm hoping...thanks for letting us know:) I love hearing how the cinemas are filling with Jake posters!

Jake said he did accents when he was a child. It got attention at the kitchen table.
He has done different American accents in film. October Sky & BBM.
But he does all kinds, it just hasn't been called for in all of the movies he has done.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon :) Jake has definitely shown an instinct and talent for accents over the years. I was worried about the English accent because it's one I obviously know! But I needn't have worried. Jake has done himself proud. British accents aren't easy to pull off. But Jake did :D

Hi Mushee! I know, it's amazing!!! New post. I knew it was worth staying up late :DD

Wow!

Just Wow!

I'm absolute rubbish at distinguishing British accents but Jake sounds flawlessly generic British to me. His voice reminded me of Orlando Bloom.

This all seems like perfect timing career wise for Jake. Brothers will be released soon, maybe getting some Oscar glory. All that publicity should help make PoP a huge blockbuster.

Here's hoping.
