Updated the post to add a new Behind the Scenes featurette for Prince of Persia. We get additional new scenes, more information about the dagger ('nice knife') and a lot more Jake Gyllenhaal, complete with accent. Many thanks to Stephanie for the heads up!
Some little details...
On with the post!
You might have noticed, but it's cold out there. Of course, if it's not cold where you are and it's actually hot, then you wouldn't have noticed. In which case, don't rub it in. But as it is extremely cold here, and there's not much chance of going anywhere by train, plane or car (a horse might be an option, or a sled), it's good to swap snow for sand, if only in our heads. Take a look at these two new pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton from the Prince of Persia and you'll feel the cockles of your heart warming in no time at all.
No North Face extra quilted jacket here, no industrial strength Uggs, not even mittens. Instead we have leather straps, flimsy capes, tight armour, biceps, veins on biceps, belts, studs, furtive sexy glances - and a snood. Thanks to Jake for transporting us to the Oasis of PoP. With all those straps and accessories, I'm wondering how long it takes Prince Dastan to get up in the morning.
In the real and chillier world of The Big Freeze, Jake spent at least a chuck of his birthday evening at a charity bash for Gods Love We Deliver at the Smyth Hotel in Tribeca, NYC. It is always good to see Jake associated with a good cause and this one came equipped with a Mark Ronson set. '"No one wanted to leave because of the snow, so DJ Mark Ronson just kept playing music." Also snowbound were Jake Gyllenhaal, Matt Dillon, Gina Gershon and Philip Seymour Hoffman.' The fact that the event was sponsored (rather appropriately) by 42Below Vodka may have helped.
Maggie Gyllenhaal venture out into The Great Blizzard on Monday night when she appeared on the David Letterman Show and revealed that Ramona is a great dancer, probably about to get a flamenco dress for Christmas. Here's a brief snippet in which Maggie describes her tactic for accosting famous actors at the Globes.
Maggie's other half, Peter Sarsgaard, has just finished filming Knight and Day in Boston with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Even though the filming finished only days ago and the release is not until July 2010, it already has a trailer. Take a look because, although the film seems a little odd, in the words of the NYPost, 'any Peter Sarsgaard is good Peter Sarsgaard'.

I hope everybody's had a good day! Winter solstice last night - looked cold at Stonehenge this morning :D Good to see new PoP Jake!
Updated the post with a brand new PoP featurette - love it! More accent :D Thanks Stephanie for the heads up! Enjoy :)
That movie with Tom Cruise and Peter looks very weird. Is it a comedy? An action drama? It's kind of hard to tell.
It's nice to see the details on Dastan's costume but I'm still not crazy about that hair. Although I found it very sexy in the bare chested, sword handling pratice video from last week. Must be because I was dazzled by that beautiful chest and those very, very low riding shorts. Did he do that on purpose? :D I wonder how many of those featurettes we'll get before May. They look like the kind of thing you would find on an extra's DVD.
Hey, you know what you could do to make yourself feel better when it's cold in Oxford ? Check the weather here, it'll always be worst. :) Go look for Ottawa, Canada (5 minutes from where I live). It's -2 F here with the wind chill. Don't tell Jake I said this, but there really are days when I envy people with warmer winters and not so much snow. :D
Olympia
I've been buried under the Holiday To Do List From Hell but just felt the need to take a break and see what's going on with my fellow Gyllenhaalics! I've been able to cruise through the recent posts here and on IHJ and am loving what I'm seeing. The exact pick me up I needed to help me trudge on so thanks to WDW and IHJ!!
The PoP stuff has been GREAT - God is Dastan one sexy prince! I loved the 'strange' Brothers interview even with having to decipher through all the GyllenSpeak - LOL! This recent PoP clip is great...and it's not even the same one I found on Disney.com that some people have been unable to view. Which shows us that there really is a TON of PoP stuff out there we're not seeing yet. They could probably put together a 3 hour bonus features DVD with all this stuff (but we know they won't). :-(
I love the idea of Jake in NYC especially with his family there. He must be freezing and slipping and sliding all over the place in the snow. Yep, pretty cold here in New England too. It's making shopping for Christmas such a joy (NOT). I had to laugh at what Olympia says here: "there really are days when I envy people with warmer winters and not so much snow." Days?! Days?! This is me every single freaking day from November through March! Seriously!
Cool trailer for Knight and Day (for the Boston scenes...not really my type of movie). You were on I-93 this summer WDW!! I have to wonder how much Peter filmed in this movie as I never heard of sightings of him in the area. Cameron and Tom (and Mrs. Cruise and Baby Cruise) were here a long time and were seen all over the place.
Well...back at the list from hell. Nice to stop by for the pick me up. Can you make sure there's egg nog and rum available for the next time I drop in WDW (extra rum please)?! :-)
Hi there Olympia! Over there in chilly Ottawa :D I'll follow your advice and think on your weather when it gets ba in Oxford!
I do like the hair but I have to admit it looks much better when paired up with the naked chest :P I reckon there'll be tons of extras on the DVD.
You are so right about the Knight an ay movie! It's weird! Love the Muse in the trailer though, but what an oddie :/
Hey BBMISwear! Glad you got the chance to take a minute or two out :-) I love, love all this PoP stuff - definitely warming.
I saw pics of Peter at a game with Tom and Katie and Cameron and that was it. Maybe he's not in it much. But I definitely want to see this all the more as it's Boston!
I can just imagine Jake slipping an sliding around NYC, but if I were him, I'd be spending it in the Caribbean!
Egg nog an rum it is - I'm still eating my cocktail chocolates :D
the video was GREAT. and I am glad we know where Jake was for his birthday. I hope he got to play in the snow with his niece.
sweetpea
Dropping by for my egg nog and rum (hee hee)! And also to add that I forgot to mention in my earlier comment that I absolutely LOVED the Christmas List you did the other day WDW! I want them all! (I especially want the Jack & Ennis dolls in the camp fire setting) *heavy sigh*
:-)
Hi Sweetpea! It is so good to hear Jake was in NYC for his birthay. I like to think of Jake playing in the snow with Ramona too :D
Get your drink, BBMISwear :-) Love the BBM dolls. Wouldn't it be great to decorate a tree with all these Jake dolls. Next year, a PoP tree may be in order :)
Hey holiday goers! :D
Hope everyone is enjoying the season. I am for sure, although it is freezing here and we had a major snow storm this weekend.
Anyway, WOW, that PoP clip was brilliant and, again, I am no expert but Jake's English accent sounds really great to me!! All so exciting and I think PoP is going to be a great success!
Love the Maggie and Peter bits. I hope Jake is still in NYC enjoying with his family. I love the sightings of course. ;)
XOXO
Hi Get Real over there in snowy NYC! England has shown yet again how it can't cope with snow - sigh... I hope Jake had (is having) such a good time in the city.
OMG I love this video - I've played it over and over an the more I hear of the accent the more I love it - good job, Jake!
I hope you're having a great holiday *)
Great video, everything we see keeps getting better and more interesting! It's so nice that Jake's involved with such wonderful causes as God's Love We Deliver.
I watched Maggie on Letterman last night and she was a doll - charming, beautiful and funny. Letterman was especially funny last night too. I only saw the intro and Maggie's segment. Crazy Heart looks amazing - I love a story like this, and Jeff Bridges, you don't even see him, just the character he is. Wow.
I loved the BBM dolls too - beautiful.
Good morning (just about) everyone! Beng lazy today before getting back out there into Christmas frozen mayhem...
Thanks, Anon! I love hearing about Jake being at these functions, and this one sounds like a fun way to spend part of a birthday.
Thanks for the report on the DL show - I was hoping I could see it somewhere online but it's goo to hear that it went well for Maggie - Dave always scares me! I can't wait to see Crazy Heart. I've seen adverts for it here on magazines but no date yet for the UK. But it must be coming.
I hope everyone has a good day!
Hello WDW and all :)
I've arrived safely in Rome, after 'only' 90 minutes delay on my flight, but it could have been worse, due to the bad weather across Europe!
Thank you for posting this new PoP behind the scenes video. I'm really getting into the action scenes more and more... who would have thought, me normally disliking action blockbusters in principles... but Jake is reason enough to change my mind, I guess...
It's nice to hear about Jake spending part of his birthday helping with a worthy cause and being in NYC with Maggie.
Hopefully, if the cinema I've chosen is not fully booked already, today is Brothers day for me! Yay!!!
So... if I find a seat (the cinema is quite small) and finally get to see the movie, I'll report here when I'm back :)
I can't wait to see Jake on the big screen again!
Love & hugs
Paola

I have my own Holiday To Do List From Hell, so I may seem grumpy. Some of my relatives will get Amazon gift certificates from me because there was no way I could have gone out in the blizzard with my bad knee and lost wallet for Christmas shopping when I had time off. :-(
Anyway, "Crazy heart" might be playing somewhere in the Boston area, but it's buried in the avalanche of other movies that deserve attention. I rarely see movies on week nights, but last night I made myself see "Up in the Air." I also need to see "The Road some time before it leaves the local theaters forever. Then there will be the Chipmunks sequel and Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on Christmas Day itself, when I will be 100 miles from my local theaters, stuck inside with relatives whom I love....
Sorry if I sound like Scrooge. Maggie is lucky to be in a movie with a Great performance by Jeff Bridges. Tons of people will see the movie, and thus see her.
Paola! I'm so glad to hear you got to Rome with no trouble :D How is it there? Good luck seeing Brothers! Let us know what you think - did you find a non-dubbed version?
Hi there Scroogey Paul! I sympathise, Christmas can seem like a very long list. I hope you get the chance to see all the films you wish. And nothing up with an Amazon voucher (hint to slow shopping relatives...)
Nice snoody! Very nice...
Maggie plucks her eyebrows tho - oh dear
I love this weather!
TD
Hey there TD! Judging by the name, things are a little chilly with you?! I think we may have reached the dizzy heights of freezing here today briefly... Long drive tomorrow :(
Glad you like the snood :D I'm not a fan of eyebrow plucking myself - a source of unnecessary pain.
I hope you're having a good holiday and keeping your chocolate quota up!
OK so I'm back from my (first) Brothers viewing. Wow, what a powerful drama. I enjoyed it a lot, but perhaps, I'd say I have enjoyed the performances more than the film overall (if that makes any sense). Not that there's anything wrong with the story or the film, but it was probably my fault for paying too much attention to the actors than to the plot or the script... That's why I need a second viewing (at least!), well, not the only reason, of course!!
I thought every single actor gave an incredible performance, and I was totally blown over by the little girls' performances too. Kudos to Jim Sheridan, of course, as well, for eliciting such emotional performances from the cast.
Jake was extremely good, I think he's matured even more as an actor, and this 'edgy' role provided him with the perfect opportunity to show what he's capable of, over and beyond his wonderful performances so far...
Natalie as well impressed me a lot. I had no idea she'd become such an accomplished actress.
Without going into spoilerish territory, I'd say I would have liked certain aspects of the story (especially regarding Tommy and his background) to be given a little more weight, although I understand it's Sam's drama which mostly drives the plot.
I could have done without the heavy music, particularly during certain key scenes, as I thought it distracted a little from the actor's performances and the family drama they portrayed.
And, last but not least...
drunken Jake is friggin' adorable!!! The offbeat charm & the perfect timing he displays in the scene at the bar creates what's probably my favourite light-hearted moment in the film...
And let's not mention how nice (at least to me) Jake looks in a bulkier shape, less muscle than on PoP, but very, ahem, nice all the same :))
Will probably go for a second viewing on Boxing Day...
Love & hugs
Paola
Merry Christmas, family Wet Dark and Wild!
Morning everyone!
Paola, so good to hear you go to see Brothers and what you thought of it. It's very interesting, we shared many of the same feelings. I definitely agree that this is about the actors. Jake is adorable in it! I wasn't expecting adorability to factor so much in the character of comedy. And I agree about the music.
I always think that the second viewing is the one that counts so I'm glad you'll get to see it again on Boxing Day. I hope you have a lovely Christmas in that most beautiful city :)
Happy Christmas Monica!
Back shortly with another post after I've travelled some miles...
