Jake Gyllenhaal interviewed for Fox9 reveals Maggie's primary job in his life. And WDW on the trail of PoP!

The other day Fox's Daniel Matheson was heard tantalisngly tweeting about his interview with Jake Gyllenhaal. And here is, as my grandmother would say, the proof of the pudding. And listening to it, one gets a sneaking impression that Jake's fiercest critic is his big sister, Maggie. Families. If it's not brothers, it's sisters.

'If you know someone or have a relationship with them in real life, well it's almost like... I've worked with my sister in movies before and when I worked with her... you can't pull anything. They know when you're faking it.' And on being asked if Maggie has called him out: 'That's all my sister does! That is her pimary job in my life.'

Joking or not, it interests me that Jake has repeatedly discussed through the years that acting with people who know him means that he cannot fake it in front of the camera. This was particularly evident in his interviews about close friend and brother-in-law Peter Sarsgaard during the Jarhead days. Jake clearly feels the same need to do right by Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire, just as he does with Maggie and Peter. A talented and charismatic actor such as Jake clearly could cut corners if he wished but it seems to me that acting with people whom he knows, likes and admires - including a number of directors he takes a paycut to work for - keeps Jake's mind focused and, as a result, his art blossoms.

WDW at WDW - In search of PoP

This part of the post puts me in mind of the BBC's Michael Wood In the Footsteps Of... series. While the handsomely-jeaned Michael went after Alexander the Great, Trojans, Celts and King Arthur, today I ventured into the heartland of deepest WDW to seek out the Prince of Persia. While not underestimating the self-sacrifice of spending a full day at Disney World on a hot and sunny winter's day, I'm afraid to say that I was unsuccessful. And yet there was a taster of what we might find this time next year. Today Jack Sparrow, tomorrow Dastan.

I saw huge Jack Sparrow towels, I saw entire Pirates outfits, photos, posters, bits and pieces - bags, jewellery, books, you name it. I saw frogs in every shape and size imaginable - I think there's a Princess and the Frog movie knocking around. And there'll be plenty of room for a PoP ride. A rollercoaster or a gentle meander through the desert on a robotic camel?

I failed to find a camel. I failed to find the Prince. I did find two ostriches. Unfortunately, just as I was ready to get a picture, my safari truck sped off over bumbs at breakneck speed in hot pursuit of ivory poachers. You know how it is. But all was not lost. I found a clutch of ostrich eggs and did get a picture. The downside is that at that particular moment a white rhino decided to projectile pee all over them. I'm not joking - it was like being back at Victoria Falls. Quite astonishing. Not entirely pleasant. How considerate of me to capture the moment for you.

So I went from Africa to Asia, briefly popping by Australia and dipping into prehistory. I even ascended to nowhere near the top of Everest. Gibbons and love birds (I don't know if they were love birds but they looked past being friendly), giraffes, hippos, even the occasional Nile crocodile and Komodo dragon (plus a massive tapir that was one of the ugliest things I have ever seen), gorillas and flamingos. At least three types of flamingos. Note I'm not mentioning the meerkats because I can see them in Oxford and don't need to be on a PoP quest. But next year, all will be different. Next year, Disney World will go PoP and I can fill my home with utensils, toys, soft furnishings, art, jewellery, clothing, fridge magnets, all labelled with the PoP trademark and bearing the face of Jake. I daresay Jake might gather a few of them himself.

Includes pictures from IHJ and WDW at WDW. And thanks to Stephanie for the help with the video!

Hey WDW, so glad you are having a great time. Great pictures, thanks for sharing. :)

Love that little interview with Jake, so cute and I am sure he means it when he talks about Maggie, lol. The reporter really seemed to like him and Brothers so that was great too.

I love seeing the Brothers and PoP displays at the movie theatres. :D

Thanks for keeping us updated on all the Jake info.

I feel so proud to be a fan of someone who has a close bond with the family. I love seeing all this love that Jake demonstrates for his family.

LOL, I thought you were kidding about the ostrich eggs and the rhino and then scrolled down and saw the picture you took. Ewww! Thank you so much for that! :D

Seeing people wearing shorts in a Christmas decorated street is so weird to me. It just doesn't match!

BBMISwear, be sure to let me know if you come to Montréal this summer, I'd love to meet a fellow Brokie/Gyllenhaalic. :)

I appreciate the sacrifices you're making for the rest of us, WDW. I'm not sure I would want to get *too* close to an ostrich--or a rhino, for that matter.

I've been thinking of something that a few critics have said about Jake's portrayal of Tommy Cahill, namely that the crime Tommy has been jailed for seems out of character for him. This reminds of my feeling that arson seemed out of character for Donnie Darko. I don't know, I'm not sure Jake's dark side is sinister enough to give him a career as a villain. Paul Bettany and Christopher Plummer make great villains, and will never be unemployed unless they want to be. I prefer to see Jake play heroic roles. But, he is still young enough to find more ways to portray characters....

I think Jake would make an amazing serial killer.

Jake as a serial killer? That would depend on whether it was a serious or comic story. Look at Dexter, who is funny and even lovable despite his crimes.

I'm not saying Jake shouldn't *try* to do villainous roles. Only he can decide that. But I honestly don't think he has done nearly enough comedy yet.

Vey Vey jealous of your splendid holiday.

Comedies are good, but I don't want to see Jake turn into comedy actor.

I would like to see him in the role of villain. Someone pretty scary!

I think he is capable.

wow, that guy in Fox9 is enthusiastic! *g* but he's so right that Jake is someone you can't help but love/like :)

oh my, Florida looks like Africa there! I hope you're still enjoying your "Brothers tour" and thanks for all the non-stop Jake goodies.

Hi there everyone! Just got in and stand back as I have a stinking cold. I thought colds were for cold places, not warm sunny places :(

Thanks Get Real! The interviewer definitely liked Jake and I don't think Jake was kidding about Maggie either! It's so great seeing Jake posters - I've not seen them at home :)

Hi Monica! This is a lovely interview :D

Hey Olympia! You mean you didn't enjoy my rhino photo? Tschk (that's a tut). It was so weird today walking round Sea World to Christmas Carols and Christmas trees when it's hot and sunny! I could get used to this...

Hi Paul! I know it's a ssacrifice but I'm willing to put myself through it... I thought when I saw the film that I wasn't sure this Tommy could be a criminal. He was just so adorable all the way through. But I fear part of that may be my adoration for Jake speaking! I like watching Jake as a rough character who is transformed. That way we get the best of both worlds :D

Hi 16:27 :D He would if it were a good script. I would liked to have seen him in Torso as the killer.

I do agree Paul - I want to see these comedies, I'm desperate to! The humour of Brothers really made me crave Nailed and LAOD. He is so good at it. And I'm ready to have a break from the swerious films for a while, although I thought Jake was far less 'serious' in Brothers than I had been expecting.

Ooh, lovely sexy pic, Rob! I'm kinda thinking that'd be a bit drafty for skateboarding. Obviously if it were Jake skateboarding shirtless I'd just think he were dressing suitably for the climate :D But a hot pic and I'd not seen that one before - thanks, mate!

Hey Monica, I don't think Jake will ever become one type of actor - he's too good and he'll make good films irrespective of the genre. I'm not sure I want to be scared by Jake in a movie and I wonder if he'll do such a role. Maybe! We're in for a treat with the range of films Jake will chose over the years :D

That is so true, Wimterbird :D Sigh... Ah yes, seen Florida, Asia, Europe, Australia, you name it, ob this trip. Even made it to the Arctic today and saw walruses and polar bears! And penguins so I must have made it to the Antarctica as well - I'm so well travelled :D

Hi everyone I haven't had time to get online for the last few days. My trip seems to be going at the speed of light:)

I did go and see Brothers on Monday night and really enjoyed it. It was great to see Jake back on our screens again. I have now officially completely fallen for Tommy Cahill:)

Hope you're having a good trip WDW.

Hopefully I will be back online again before I head home.

After seeing Brothers I really would love to see Jake get together with Natalie Portman .. They had such great chemistry in the film, makes you wonder if it was at all "real" ?? I'd like to see them do another love story together where they are actually a couple.
