Maggie in the spotlight, an actors' roundtable, an octopus and WDW Interlude continues...

In all the excitement over the release of Brothers in the US this week, it's been easy to overlook that Jake Gyllenhaal's sister Maggie had the premiere for her new movie Crazy Heart this week and it too is getting a very loud Oscar Buzz. Jake didn't walk the red carpet, leaving Maggie in silver in the spotlight, but he did go to the screening.

You can read a full report of the premiere and see pics here (but alas none of Jake but I bet he looked dapper).

Talking of Oscar Buzz, another family member is also getting some - Peter Sarsgaard. And he is part of a fascinating cross-discussion about the art of acting hosted by The Hollywood Reporter.

'Nicolas Cage ("Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call -- New Orleans"); Colin Firth ("A Single Man"); Morgan Freeman ("Invictus"); Peter Sarsgaard ("An Education"); Stanley Tucci ("Julie & Julia," "The Lovely Bones"); and Christoph Waltz ("Inglourious Basterds") -- whose work has been lauded as among the year's best.' I hope you enjoy the videos as much as I did.

This Saturday, Jake will be presenting the most prestigious award of best game at the VGA in LA for Spike. Geoff Keighley, a host on Spike TV, tweeted 'Besides the Prince of Persia game reveal at #VGAs, we will show you an exclusive new clip of the film introduced by Jake Gyllenhaal.' I'm wondering what kind of clip - and I can't wait.

Tomorrow is Sesame Street day at long last and here's hoping we get more than a two minute clip of Jake simply pulling a happy octopus of his head to explain 'separate'. Talking of octopuses...

WDW at Sea World Interlude

Yesterday was Sea World day, hence the Pacific Octopus. This means a day of walking around smelling of fish - I fed fish to the stingrays (and a bird), I fed fish to the dolphins (no bird this time) and I fed fish to the sealions (and a bird). I was informed that the sealion fish was called Smelt, at which I delivered a joke that I'm sure the fish provider had never heard before - or, at least, not in the preceding two minutes.

I stroked an alligator, deciding not to feed that critter. I was fearless - however it was only about a week old. A big guy refused to go near it as he said it would have his hand off. Bear in mind that the baby alligator's mouth was the size of this guy's finger. Could have had a fingernail off, I suppose. But the dolphin moment was the best.

I saw the most boring animal on the planet - the manatee - and one of the most exciting - the killer whale or Shamu.

Here's a ride I didn't go on. Not even Jake would go on this ride...

Includes pictures from IHJ, WDW and links.

hey, lovely holiday pics! :)

I've read about Jake at the premiere of Crazy Heart, but so far he seemed to be elusive to the cameras! Or maybe he didn't want to steal Maggie's thunder? :)

Those are some heavy duty actors on that roundtable. I haven't watched Nic Cage's "Bad Lieutenant" but out of all the others, I think Colin Firth in "A Single Man" is his career best, I do hope he gets nomination for it.

Enjoy the sunshine there, WDW - England is turning cold this weekend!

Great pics, WDW! I love you with all the animals, petting the dolphins and all. :)

Maggie looks lovely and I have heard great things about her and Jeff Bridges, (another fave actor of mine). Really glad Jake was there for her. Wish there were a few pics of them together.

I agree Winterbird, that is a very impressive roundtable. I can't wait to see "A Single Man". Colin is getting great reviews too.

Looking forward to Jake at the Spike Awards. I hope it goes well. :)

What a great post! Haven't watched the actors' roundtable vids yet, but just had to comment about your Sea World pics, WDW. Love them - the sea lion and the one of you petting the dolphins. I love your expression, it's like you're saying "Awww" and who wouldn't, they're so sweet. And of course love the orca whales, sting rays and 'gators.

Maggie looks great and I think Crazy Heart is going to be great - can't wait to see.

Looking forward to Jake's appearance on Sesame St., and his game awards presentation! :)

I'm glad you're enjoying your time in the sunshine state. At least it's warm where you are. times like this I wish I was a snowbird.

I think it's wonderful how Jake and Maggie support each other's movies. I wonder if she went to see Brothers yet?

Hi there everyone! The Sunshine State was the Cold and Partially Wet State today but strangely it didn't matter so much as it made it feel really Christmassy when I was at Epcot this evening - very atmospheric. I have a really bad cold though - ugh.

Hi Winterbird! I think that's just why Jake wasn't photographed - it was his sister's night. She looked lovely!

It's an amazing roundtable - those actors! OMG. I can't wait to see a Single Man and the older he gets the poor interesting I find Nic Cage. And as for Morgan Freeman... I love seeing Peter in this company :D

Really? Oh dear... Can we have some Indian Summer for my return please?

Thanks Get Real! It's so great getting this close to the animals, although I fear dolphins love me for my fish. Jeff Bridges is fantastic! I'm looking forward to seeing this.

Hi Bertie! I'm so glad you liked the pics :D That sealion was such a poser and he ended up taking most of my fish. Having the contact with the dolphins was incredible. They're so soft.

Hey Sweetpea :D Not as warm today but it looks very cold in the NE. I don't do too good in the cold myself - although in England it never gets so bad - so in December I follow the sun for a week. So if it can come out again tomorrow, that would be appreciated?

I think it's a safe bed that Maggie saw Brothers :D

I hope everyone had a good day! Sesame St day tomorrow!

I saw Andy Garcia today! He was doing the Christmas Candlelit procession thing at Epcot and did a reading.

lovely pictures, WDW.
I love dolphins too: I saw them at close range in Western Australia, but we weren't allowed to touch them, because they were wild dolphins and only come ashore at certain times of the day, otherwise the live in the open sea.
Maggie looks lovely and though I'm sorry not to see Jake's pics, I'm glad he seemingly didn't want to steal her thunder at the red carpet.

Thanks so much for the email :)

Hugs

OMG SO FREAKING ADORABLE!!!! Jake and the Octopus!! So freaking cute!! That voice, that smile, those expressions and that messy hair (after the octopus is removed)!! It's very very short but all of these segments are so I wasn't expecting much footage. I'm sure it will be on the internet soon enough for you all to see...what a month it has been in Gyllenhaalic land...all the extremes! Loving it!!

More later. Sesame Street Central signing off! (I'm thankful I can resign from this particular position now...how did I ever put up with this show all those years with a toddler in the house)?!

:-)

Hi Paola! Seeing dolphins in the wild is just such an amazing experience, I've seen them off the UK but the best time was in Mauritius when they followed a little boat I was on. I'll never forget :) Maggie looked stunning!

Hey BBMISwear :-) At last you're relieved Sesame Street duties! I love that hair after the octopus comes off - sigh... And thanks to Stephanie for geetting it online for us!

I was sad to read that the manatee for you is the most boring animals. It's one of the most beautiful creatures for me on earth :)

Have a good trip. I have been on the snake ride ;) It was cool.

Hugs!
