Jake Gyllenhaal twists a tentacle (on Sesame Street) - Update: Brothers UK trailer

We've had quite a wait for Jake Gyllenhaal to pull that octopus off his head, but finally today Jake's Sesame Street aired and, with so many thanks to IHJ, we can all now see that little purple sucker get its comeuppance. I think we'd all agree that a twisted tentacle is a small price to pay for such an attachment. It's a spooky coincidence but whenever I've thought of the word 'separate' the image of an octopus stuck on someone's head is always the first thing that comes to my mind. Representatives for both Jake Gyllenhaal and octopus have yet to confirm if the separation is pemanent.

And here is Maggie with her word. Surprise!

This of course means the end to some people's dedicated daily Sesame Street vigilance - for those people the word on the street is 'Hooray!' Thanks Stephanie!

Updated to add the UK trailer for Brothers which is very different from the US version, right down to the music. Lionsgate has now added it to YouTube.

The CUTEST video of the year! Hands down! :)

Even with the goofy haircut, or even more so because of it!

Thanks for the video! Just the loveliest :)

It's adorable, Winterbird! And I love the hair when the octopus comes off - lovely :)

Updated the post because the UK Brothers trailer is at last on YouTube. It's so different, including the music.

I am lucky they posted that at IHJ (and of course you did here as well) because I taped Sesame street today on BOTH PBS stations (it airs on one station at 5AM and at the other at 9:30AM) one had a repeat with Michelle Obama and the other had the word Habitat

I am assuming they will eventually air Jake's ep but it was not today :(

I like his hair like that I wish he would wear it like that more often (without product) and I thought Maggie's ep was adorable

thanks

I just can't get enough of Jake and the Octopus!! I watched it on television when it came on this morning and couldn't stop smiling!! (And of course I taped it and kept watching it over and over). As I said earlier...so freaking cute! I love his voice and facial expressions...adorable!

This is perfect WDW: "Representatives for both Jake Gyllenhaal and octopus have yet to confirm if the separation is pemanent" - how current with the times - ha ha!!

I'm also laughing as I am one of the people who became quite dedicated to watching Sesame Street for a while there...and it's good to be done with THAT! When I had a toddler in the house who watched it daily (more than daily!) I must have tuned it out or something...ha ha!

I do like the clips they chose for the Brothers UK trailer and the order they put them in but I hate the sound - they spliced it together so that every breath taken between the actor's lines are cut out! Not only does it not sound good but the intensity of what they say in some parts is completely missed. I'm all for getting as much into a trailer as you can but perhaps cut out a few scenes and let the actors' true performances come through (ya know, dramatic pauses and all that)! Just my humble opinion. Maybe I wouldn't have even noticed this if I didn't seen the movie itself 3 times already - it all just seems so rushed.

I hope you enjoy the end of your Disney vacation WDW - did the sun come back out?? Sesame Street today...Video Game Awards tomorrow...it's all good!!

:-)

I don't know ...
I did not like. Nothing funny...
Nothing cute!

Maggie is so natural on Sesame Street. I love her!

I'm tired of seeing the trailers of Brothers! I want to see the movie! February 12 is too far!

Awww, how adorable was that! Jake is seriously the cutest!! I loved it. :D

I can't blame him for having the messed up hair because if you had an octopus on your head your hair would be that way too, lol.

Sorry you didn't like it Monica. I thought it was lovely and Jake was adorable and sexy in a goofy, kid friendly way.;)

Maggie's was great too. :)

Glad to see the UK Brothers tailer.

That was adorable! I loved the Octopus' voice too and the sound effects. Maggie's was adorable too. Sesame Street is so great. :)

OK, I've seen the octopus clip 10 times already, I dunno what that says about me, but... Jake (and the octopus) are freakin' adorable!!!
Jake was born to play on Sesame Street, with strange creatures stuck on his head!
I loved his facial expressions, from the eye rolling to the voice intonations, and the octopus at the end... 'twisting a tentacle'!?!

I loved Maggie too. She too seems totally at ease with the furry creatures. I love her naturalness.

I wish these Sesame St. snippets were longer, though... but I guess you can't keep a child's attention for too long these days...

Thank you for the link to the Brothers UK trailer. I've saved it to my computer now, will watch it again and again... but by now, I'm more than primed to watch the real thing... only 11 days to the Italian release, yay!!!

Hugs
Paola

Hi there everyone! I've just come back in after a very Christmassy Disney evening. And the good news is I'm at last feeling better! Nothing like coming all this way just to get sick.

Hey Sweetpea! I think a degree in rocket science is crucial in order to understand the Sesame Street schedule. I don't get it at all! Thank heavens for Stephanie who was on top of it :D Maggie's was lovely.

Hey BBMISwear :-) Yes, your duties guarding Sesame Street Central are over - I don't know how you managed it!

That's so interesting about the Brothers UK trailer - I'd not noticed that. I liked the choice of clips more than in the US version and I was intrigued by the differences in music but I'd not noticed how they'd been spliced together. I'll take another luck.

So you've seen the movie three times - errr, because I've been sick, I may have seen the film more than that... But once was because I snuck into 2012 to see the PoP trailer - YEAY it was amazing!!! - and then accidentally fell into the Brothers theatre.

All good! The sun is due back out tomorrow after two days little warmer than home.

Hi Monica :) I don't know what to say... Nothing cute? There is a fun loving side of Jake that we've seen here, on SNL and in interviews - and in Brothers - and I think it's an integral part of him, along with all those other aspects of his character that make him such a wonderful actor to follow. Jake also doesn't take himself too seriously in these things and I really like that. And, as Get Real says, this is for kids.

OMG! Get Real that's so funny! Yeah, you have an octopus suckered on your head and you're guaranteed a bad/cute hair day!

Hi Bertie! I loved the octopus's voice! I think he loveed Jake deep down, he didn't mind Jake touching his twisted tentacle. Y'know what octopuses are like - they play hard to get but that octopus was after our Jake :D I think Sesame Street is especially good if I don't have to watch it.

Hey Paola! I love your description of it - all those funny expressions. And I think Maggie had fun too.

It's great to have this UK trailer in this format as at last we can save it :D Yeay, not long til the Rome release, a month or so to the UK's and lots more publicity in between I hope.

A good day - with the VGAs to follow and after seeing the PoP trailer on the big screen yesterday (it was amazing), I'm so ready to see the new clip.

And a very happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!!

In an article from a couple or more years ago Jake saying he thought comedy would be the type of movies he'd be doing.
When just a child his parents joked they thought he might run off to join Saturday Night Live.
But we're glad drama came into his movie life.
LAOD seems to be a combination of humor and drama.
Of course Bubble Boy was a great comedy performance. Even critics who didn't care for the movie Did have good things to say about Jake.
He'll continue to do as many different types of movies cause he has the talent to do them.

Hi Anon - one of the things I've always enjoyed about Jake as an actor is that there are no limits to what he might do. He can do whatever type of role he likes because he can do them all and he'll learn from them all :)

But please no horror, I can't watch horror... I'm trying to pluck up courage to see Peter's Orphan!

Ah, the possibilities... if Jake has a distinguished career like Jeff Bridges I'd be happy for him. Getting the Oscar is not yet time for Jake as those Oscar winners do not get any other great roles. Nominations yes. Oscar win .... not yet baby.

Anonymous said...

I think Jake would also agree it's not time yet - but it's great to get those nominations.
It Is time for Jeff Bridges tho. He deserves this Oscar - and this wouldn't be just a "career award" completely because from the things said about his performance it is a great one.
And, besides, Maggie is in the movie & early reviews on her are excellent.

Thanks for all the videos. It seems as if the Best Actor field will be pretty competitive. I am especially fond of Colin firth and very pleased he is getting recognized. I love seeing those kinds of imformal discussions between actors. It gives us an idea of the way they look at what they do, and also the interpersonal dynamics give us an idea of their personalities off-screen.

Good morning everyone!

Hi Sheba! I do believe an Oscar is in Jake's future, for the time being I'd love to see the nominations build up. He certainly deserves it for Brothers.

Hey 14:10 :) I do agree about Jeff Bridges and that this award should be for Crazy Heart. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Hi there 14:26 :D I'm so glad you enjoyed the videos - I thought they were fascinating, seeing these highly respected actors talk about their art. That will be quite a field for Best Actor.

Have a good VGA day everyone :)

It's true that will show a new trailer for POP?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica! The guy who's putting it all together has said that Jake will present a new clip from PoP as well as an award. I'm really excited to see it - maybe it won't be a new trailer but an actual scene. I'd love to hear Jake talk more with that PoP voice!

Whaaaa? How did I miss this? Christoph Waltz with a beard? Just got a chance to see the actors roundtable clip. Love them all. *swoon* :)

"Representatives for both Jake Gyllenhaal and octopus have yet to confirm if the separation is pemanent." LOL! Very funny, WDW. :D It's really a weird coincidence that Jake's word is "separate".

What more can I say about the "separate" clip that hasn't been already said? It is freaking adorable and I love his hair. Is Sesame Street watch really over? Isn't Jake supposed to be in the Shalom Sesame thing or did I get that wrong?

Maggie's clip was cute too. Were they presented on the same show? What a treat this must have been for Ramona. I bet Jake is real good at reading stories to her. She's so lucky! :)

Enjoy the end of your trip!

Every time I look Colin Firth in a A Single Man, I remember Heath as Ennis Del Mar. I don't despise performance of anyone, but Heath deserved that Oscar.
Ok, he deserved more for the Joker. But that would have been special.

Anonymous said...

It would have been nice if Heath had two Oscars - Ennis was exceptional, but so was The Joker I think, as well. Colin Firth is so attractive. :)

I love cute, funny, carefree Jake. I see a lot of Jimmy in that clip, and would love to see more comedies with Jake. Preferably soon. Please? ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi 16:18! I'm so glad you enjoyed the roundtable videos - they're really special :D

Hey Olympia! Glad to see you're getting a break from shovelling snow :D I think Shalom Sesame is due to air in December 2010 soo we could give BBMISwear a break for a while or keep her on duty for the next 12 months!

Maggie's show was a couple of weeks ago but I wanted to put both clips in the same post :D Ramona must love both of these - Peter's turn next!

Hi Monica! I don't want to take anything away from Colin Firth - it's a separate movie from BBM and I wish him all the best, just as I wish Heath had won the oscar in his year :)

Hi 20:27 :D He is! And yes, we all wish Heath had won that Oscar.

Hey Anna! Ooh yes, love to see more comedies - I'd take Nailed for starters!

I hope everyone has had a good day - I'm feeling better today which of course means I fly home tomorrow - typical :/

Whether Jake gets six Oscars or none doesn't matter as much as seeing him make interesting movies that challenge people's expectations.

WDW, I saw Peter's "Orphan," and thought it was pretty good. The violent content is there, yes, but it doesn't get way out of control.
