Jake Gyllenhaal - 'blessed' in the kitchen

As Britain quivers under The Big Freeze, the Biggest Freeze since that Big Freeze of 6,000 BC, otherwise known as The Ice Age, the realisation strikes that we must be resourceful with our dwindling food supplies. The shops may be well stocked with Easter Eggs but otherwise you're lucky to get two mushrooms and a squidgy bottle of ketchup. This is when you need Jake Gyllenhaal. Obviously you need him for the other 364 and a half days a year too, but he's particularly handy now.

One remembers an interview back in October 2007 for Rendition: 'I have such a great family and I really love to cook for them. I've cooked since I was little. I feel most relaxed in the kitchen. If you can cook with any ingredients you have in your cupboards, then that's a sign of a true chef. I like to cook with any leftovers in the fridge.' Although how Jake would make do with my one veggie picnic egg, two sprigs of broccoli and half a pot of brandy custard is beyond me.

Today, Jake's sister Maggie was interviewed for Vanity Fair and she discussed her culinary ambitions. This was in contrast to her brother Jake who is known throughout the mediaworld as God's Gift to People Who Like to Eat. And this is what VF says: 'Isn't your brother, Jake, a great chef? [Maggie:] That’s different. He literally has a talent. He’s a brilliant cook. He’s blessed or something.' And so he is and so are we. But what's his Yorkshire Pud like?

Kate!

I'm gone, I'm back, lots happened and Jake still looks amazing!
I missed this place like nowhere else, but there's something else missing, right? Can you please tell me whatever happened with "the chin"? No picture, no comment about "it"...what did I miss?

(can I still be mean around here? hahah)

miss your face, ladies.

I can't think of a better looking kitchen accessory than Jake :)

I am sure Jake can dish up something from my cupboard though, I am just not sure if they aren't expired!

I've liked Maggie for a long time, but the Vanity fair interview blows me away. She is so articulate and intelligent! "Crazy heart is only playing in two theaters in my area: Kendal Square (Cambridge) and Loewe's Boston Common. Those places might as well be on the Moon. :-/ I will wait for it to come to a closer theater.

Oh... My...God... MONICA O!!

I am so happy to see you!!! How are you? Missed you very much indeed. Things have moved right on. It's a good, good day to see you back. Monica!!!

Hey Winterbird :D Jake would be great in the kitchen. I need him as I'm on dregs right now...

Hey Paul, posting at the same time :) This is one of my favourite Maggie interviews too. I know both those cinemas you mention, I hope it gets closer to you - I hope it gets closer to me too! Cos the more I hear about Crazy Heart the more I want to see it :)

IoDP was entrancing, and on the way out, over the doorway, were the posters of Dastan (Courage), Nazim (Revenge,)Tamina (Destiny)!

Crazy Heart is next on my list, and I want to see the Hurt Locker too.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon! Ooh, how great to see the posters :D I do hope I get to see those films too.

Oh yes, a Jake kitchen accessory! Even without innuendo, that would be better than a snoody (which are suddenly everywhere, have you noticed?). I got TWO kitchen gadgets for Xmas - an ice cream maker and a pancake griddle. I love them both, but I'd give both back for a Jacob. Do you think he comes with a George Foreman guarantee? Maybe the big picture studios take one out on him - "Get me Jake Gyllenhaaaaaal, guaranteed by George Foreman to make a billion at the box awwwwfice...!" [didja get the accent? ;-D]

I hope Jake is on cooking programmes throughout his life. I wish he would meet Jamie Oliver on one of his trips - that would be so cool to see!

I love this post! Sorry I'm getting carried away a bit!

Hey TD! I'd love an ice cream maker :D Jake would be so great on cooking programmes, surely one of these days he'll be on loads of them. I'm so glad you enjoyed the post!

I wish Jake would cook on more shows, like he did on Helen. That was so fun! And I love the idea of him and Jamie Oliver cooking together. :)

There`s a person on LiveJournal who`ll be going to Heath's old appartment in New York on the 22nd and is offering to take messages there on behalf of those who wish to pay their respects to Heath. You can send him/her an email or a letter, no longer than one page, and she/he'll take it to 421 Broome Street. I don`t know how to make a link but the site is:

http://community.livejournal.com/inmemoryofheath/973762.html

This is such an incredibly nice thing to do. When Heath died, I wished I could have sent a message to the memorial in front of his building. Now I get a chance to do it.

There's an error in the adress in my previous post. It should read:

Argh! Why is this not working?!
There`s still a part missing! It should read 3762.html after the 97!

Great post, WDW!
I'm flying back to London in two days, hope the temperatures will have become more bearable by then, or at least stop snowing for a bit!...
I would have loved to taste what Jake concocted on the Ellen show, remember?
And your post has made me want to watch those two shows on the Mario Batali programme where Jake & family were guests :)

Very nice interview with Maggie. And I adore hearing her praise Jake's cooking abilities. :)

I want Jake as a kitchen accessory! :p

Morning! I could do with Jake rustling up some breakfast for me right now - porridge ideally.

Hi Olympia! Thanks for the link, it does work. Here's a clickable one too. That is such a cool thing to do. A message from me was put there once, it's a really nice thought.

I would love to see Jake on the Jamie Oliver show too - it'd be hysterical! (and tasty).

Hey Paola! I really hope it warms up for you but I'm not counting on it. It's so slippy out there, remember your wellies. Ooh I loved those Batali shows, love to see Jake on that again. I'm not so sure about Jake's fried Starbursts and strawberry pud - an acquired taste :D Have a safe, easy trip back *)

Morning Get Real! It is a lovely interview. Jake would make a fine kitchen accessory - I'm imagining him in a pinny...

Have a good day everyone!

For anyone interested I've done a post on Gemma Arterton and Wuthering Heights at MB.

Fun post WDW! It's especially meaningful to me because I can't cook worth a damn.

Oh the memories that have surfaced reading the comments about Heath. I spent time at the memorial at 421 Broome Street...an unexplainable, beautiful, moving experience it was. I don't think I can handle even going to the site with the notes right now...but what a wonderful idea. Thanks for letting us know Olympia.

*heavy sigh* January always seems to be one of those 'high hopes' months that often doesn't turn out as planned.

Sorry...I'm being a downer. Maybe some new pictures of Jake are needed to lift my spirits!! Where are those people with cameras in LA? Guess people in LA just don't care so much!

:-)

Oh...forgot to mention...note to Paul: I'm not sure if the Showcase Cinema in Woburn is any better for you, Paul, (right off 95 - even WDW's been there!!) but Dr. P is playing there. I was really surprised...it's playing in Boston, Cambridge and Woburn (??)...not typical! I hope to get there in the next few days...my wacky schedule hasn't permitted it yet (plus, I'll admit, I'm scared).

I was a little nervous too - but it was fine, it's a gem of a film. Not that your heart won't feel a twinge or two, it will. But it's a joyful film.

I think Gemma will make a great Cathy E - she's got that bit of wildness in her. But the question is, who will play Heathcliff? :)

I'm loving the premise of Source Code. Someone posted that it will be filming at the Ottawa train station.

Anonymous said...

The Ottawa train station???? Are you kidding me???? I don't think I can deal with the notion of Jake being just 15 minutes away from me!!! OMG!!! Wow, that would be amazing! **feels slightly giddy**

Thanks for making a link for me, WDW. :)

What exactly are wellies and a pinny? I hope pinny is an apron, I have a lovely image of Jake in my kitchen wearing one and nothing else. :D

Oups! Before you all ask me for copies of this image, my last comment should read: "...I have a lovely image IN MY HEAD of Jake..." But boy do I wish that pic really existed! :DDD

Same here, BBMISwear :-) Although I can open a tin of beans. I remember that cinema! District 9 :D I hope you get to see Dr P and HUGS for the January blues xx

Hi there 13:28 :D I kind of think Wuthering Heights won't happen - it got into trouble when Natalie Portman left but gemma would be wonderful - I loved her Tess. Ooh that Source Code news will please someone round here....

And here she is! Olympia, we're all moving in (especially if you have Jake in a pinny and nothing else in your kitchen :DDDD). You must catch (and miss) lots and lots of trains this spring!

Wellies are wellington boots. If you're posh you have green ones.

I have a lovely image in my head now too!!

I'd be happy to welcome all of you in my humble home. It would be a little cramped but what's a little sacrifice for a chance to see Jake? :D

I just read the newspaper article (online) about the filming in Ottawa. It's in the Ottawa Citizen and Jake's on the front page! He'll be here for 4 days at the end of March.

What a way to start a day! It's gonna be hard to concentrate on work. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ooh! Olympia, can you get hold of a copy? That sounds great!!! Isn't it so good to have Jake in our papers for his movies again :D

Anonymous said...

Sure, I could get a copy but I don't have acces to a scanner. You can have a look at the front page at this adress:

And the article is here:

Could you make those linkable please? :)

Thanks for support re: my nervousness about Dr. P. I know it will be worth it (as was I'm Not There and TDK) but watching anything new from Heath post January 2008 just slays me emotionally. Hell, watching Heath at all post January 2008 can be hard. But we go on and celebrate the wonderful Heath things we do have, right?

Hmmmm...Ottawa at the end of March??? *checks schedule*

Oooh...can't wait for tonight's post. LMAO at Olympia and her issues with posting links (this is probably about the 18th thing I've found we have in common Olympia...I'm sure there is more...LOL)!

Looking forward to more new, fun, hot, exciting things about Jake this week, this month, this year. It's the little things that make me smile - truly!

:-)

Anonymous said...

LOL, BBMISwear! The 18th? This is getting scary... :D

I really understand being scared of seing Dr. P., I was too. I was so emotionnal I started tearing up as I was entering the theatre. And I cried some during the movie and I cried after. But I don't regret going for a second, this is the last chance we get to see Heath on the big screen, don't miss it. Just bring tissues and remember you're not alone in feeling this way.

Hi BBMISwear :-) I think we do have to celebrate but it isn't easy. I still can't rewatch I'm Not There but I listen to the soundtrack all the time.

Yes, the lovely little things :)

(((Olympia))) Really moves me what you say there - I am so glad that it sounds like you had comfort from the film too.

Silver! That's great!! Thanks so much for the heads up :D Excellent.
