Telegraph interview and scans - and Jake Gyllenhaal could have been blue

As we know from last night's post, during the NYC junket for Brothers last November, Jake Gyllenhaal was interviewed for the Telegraph. The interview went online yesterday and today we have that rare and much savoured thing of a full page spread on Jake Gyllenhaal in a British Daily.

You can click on the scans below to read the interview, or look at yesterday's post. Among the goodies is this sentence to be treasured about Prince of Persia: '"Working on a movie like Prince of Persia was awesome," he beams. "It was great fun to be an action hero and to jump around, running off walls and fighting and having great quippy lines. And wearing only half of your clothes, of course!"'

Blue Jake

If you watch the interview below with director James Cameron you'll learn that Jake Gyllenhaal (and Matt Damon) were star names bandied around by the studio as possible candidates for the lead role in Avatar.

While that would have been extremely handy for Jake - the main character is called Jake (and is a jarhead, no less) - it possibly worked out for the best that Cameron focused on his first choice of Sam Worthington. Surely it's better to fit an actor to a film and role rather than pick someone because they'll do big interviews. Also, I'm not sure how I would like to watch CGId Jake, complete with tail, wiggly ears and electrically charged ponytail. Not to mention blue. I think I prefer Prince Dastan with his blue eyes, quippy lines and missing clothing.

Includes scans from WDW and picture from IHJ.

I choose Avatar. It would have been wonderful to see Jake in a movie revolutionary.
Avatar is the movie that will be in all these awards, especially Oscar.

Thanks for the article!

Hi Monica! I do agree that Avatar is a great movie and Oscar winning. My point is that it's not really an actor's role. I don't want to see Jake CGId. I want to look at him! This is undoubtedly partly because I'm shallow :D

WOW! I'd move across the pond if Jake were there. You Brits sure do love some Jake. full page picture and an article. Sweet!

Hi there Anon! We do love Jake :D But it's seriously great for Jake to have a full page spread in a broadsheet like this well. Bodes well, I hope.

I agree the Avatar role is kind of half an actor's role but it would be fun to see what Jake would have looked like. I bet as a 10 foot tall, blue, almost naked Na'vi, he still would be cute. :DDD

Thanks for the scan of the Telegraph article WDW. Wasn't able to get it this evening:( It's great to see the pics and full article.

While Avatar is a great movie, I'm not sure whether I'd have liked to see Jake in the role either.

Hope everyone who is being affected is coping with the bad weather. It has literally brought Ireland to a standstill.

Thanks for sharing that wonderful article, WDW. Imagine Jake being blue :D

I loved the part where he and Maggie are so close and have some competition.

I noticed they didn't mention BBM. An oversight I hope. Cause to me he'll always be Jack Twist.

Hi Carol! Sorry you couldn't get it :( I'm glad you can see it here.

It's pretty much at a stand still here too, with more on the way. Sigh. I'm gonna be living on tins of soup at this rate. It's strange thinking it's colder than Antarctica here! Roll on the spring.

Hi Sweetpea! I'm glad you enjoyed the article. I understand what you're saying about BBM there but I'm also really pleased to see that interviewers, the media etc can also see that there's much more to come from him and that we must look forward as well as back. All of the reviews of the last decade leave me in no doubt that noone forgets BBM :D

I hope everyone's having a good evening and staying warm :)

For anyone interested a new post at my other blog MB about sword and sandal movies, including a certain Persian one :D

I would have loved to see Jake CGI'd, ten feet tall and in love with Neytiri too! Also as the paraplegic Marine trying to find meaning in and moving forward with his life, having all that he once believed in challenged. I thought Avatar had an incredible premise, as well as great special effects.

Just caught up on the last few posts I missed this week...great stuff WDW!

What strange comments the other day re: the ping pong tournament, huh? Where do these people come from?! Wish I was on line that day to give my two cents...I do have some input on the subject...LOL)! But I see there were a good amount of WDWers around so that's good.

Jake as one of those blue things in Avatar? No thank you. I'm so glad that did not come together. The characters he played in the films he worked on during the times he would have been working on Avatar are much more interesting to me than that would have been. Just my opinion of course - we all are entitled to them!

Happy Saturday...until next time...

Hi BBMISwear :-) Good to see you! I agree about Avatar - I loved it but I'd rather see him as him, if you see what I mean. Hope you're having a good Saturday :D

Hi there Anon :) Let us know what you think.

My word is exses - even Blogger's telling me to lay off the chocs :(

Sam Worthington was so great in "Avatar" that I would not want to mame any changes. However, I think there's a misunderstanding here. Sam Worthington appears in his normal form quite a lot in the movie. The same would have been true if Jake had had the part. Maybe I am not fond of the thought that the character is a paraplegic. Sam or Jake is in a wheelchair.

Hi Paul! I don't think there's an understanding. The 'real' Jake Sully features in the film as you say but my view is not enough for me to want him to be our Jake!

Hi ANon! Posting at the same time. Thanks for the link :) Hmmm, not much difficulty over first choice, but Moon for second :D

It would have been a challenge.

I loved it - everyone is great in IoDP - and of course Heath. I was worried that I would feel sad, but he was a joy to see. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, and my thoughts have to come together on it anyway - but I loved it, very clever, funny and beautiful. It's a treasure.

Hi Monica!

Thanks, Anon, for letting us know what you think. I'm so glad to hear you loved it :)

New pics, new post!

'Jake' as character name seems to be cropping up everywhere suddenly. Must be zeitgeist (sp)?

I missed buying the Telegraph so thanks for the scans, saved them! Anything in the Sunday papers, cos I haven't spotted anything at all yet :-( Its not really the content, its the fact OF them I think I'm after!
Happy weekend! TD
