[Updated]Jake Gyllenhaal has fun at the Hungry in America Project after all, PoP out 21 May in UK? And Mike Newell on Jake - 'he is glorious looking'

'So, Jake, after you've introduced one large egg from a free-roaming hen to a cup of plain and yet delicately playful flour, you then add the milk and a frission of beer. Mix enthusiastically, coercing bubbles into your batter, and then fry on a Hot Heat. Add a little fountain of sugar, a soupson of lemon. And then even the most demanding toddler will eat your pancakes.' Yes, after Jake Gyllenhaal had done with the serious stuff at Hungry in America last night, he then went on to do the fun bit. This involved chef Tom Colicchio. Please note how Jake does not need to take notes - he has a photographic memory.

In this second picture, note how I have not noticed that invitingly room-temperatured pint of bitter to the left. I have, however, noticed that Jake is now enjoying the company of Natalie Portman and Lauren Bush. Natalie looks wonderful in that dress and how glad am I to see Jake and Natalie so perky together.

Empire's Prince of Persia

I have just received this evening my subscriber's collector's edition of the April issue of Empire. Mystifyingly, there is no Prince of Persia on the special cover, there is Back to the Future, which, correct me if I'm wrong, came out a bloody long time ago. However, not being one to chuck rotten eggs unnecessarily, I will agree that Back to the Future is a fine film. And there are some compensations. Never mind the cover - what about the inside cover? The fabulous images come with a puzzle - why does it say that Prince of Persia is out in the UK on 21 May, a full week earlier than we have been led to believe?

Aside from this beautiful doublespread advert, there is a teaser inside, suggesting much more will follow in the next issue. And from Jerry Bruckheimer: 'I've always liked Jake... He's a very physical individual - he's a bike rider, he's in great shape. So it wasn't hard to bulk him up a bit and make him the big action hero.' There is an interview with Gemma Arterton inside the magazine but there's nothing new in that about PoP.

Prince of Persia will soon be here, friends (possibly sooner than we even expected if that UK date turns out to be right) - are we ready for it?!

Er... You know when you do a post, publish it and then there's new news? Well, this is one of those times. Mike Newell has been talking to MTV about Jake and this is what he says:'"You couldn't just have a hunk," said Newell ("Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"). "He's got a sort of cheeky, devil-may-care light in his eye and at the same time he has a sensitivity, delicacy and thinness-of-skin. He is glorious looking, but you wanted more than that. You wanted women to be interested in him not just as a piece of eye candy. ... It was a huge opportunity to do a thinking woman's action hero."

"He worked his ass off," the director said. "A great deal of what you see in the movie is Jake. It's not a stuntman. He rides [horses] like a dream. He learned every one of those fights — it's like ballet. He'd get it wrong, he'd get it wrong, he'd get it wrong and then by God, he'd get it right! He's a very courageous young man."

Many thanks to IHJ for the wonderful new pictures! Scans from WDW.

Transcript from Anna's brain:

"Oh, a new post by WDW. Not a surprise, she updates so often I'm amazed she still finds interesting things to write about. I'd better read it through carefully so I can make an eloquent comment to the post. ... Oh, a new pic of Jake. He's so cute. Or hot. Or both.

Hmmm... I wonder if there are more. ... Aah, another one. And another. And another. *sigh* Prince of Persia. Can't wait... *sigh*

Wait, what was the post really about??? I need to go back and read it again, so I can make that comment. ...

Oh, pretty Jake pic. ...

What was the post really about?"

Sorry, WDW. ;) :*

Naughty Anna! You're on the Naughty Step with Tas :D

You have to go back and read it cos I've just updated it and added Mike Newell's wonderful, fabulous tribute to Jake! 'He is glorious looking, but you wanted more than that. You wanted women to be interested in him not just as a piece of eye candy. ... It was a huge opportunity to do a thinking woman's action hero.'

Gulp!

It's all too much! So come back when you've done your homework :D

he looked so sad in those other shots (like they were mug shots or something) I'm glad that he perked up and put that smile on his face. I have seen Tom C, I am a fan of Top Chef on Bravo. I would love to have been a fly on the wall for that convo. comparing chef notes.

It's nice to see him and Natalie together. They've known each other a long time

Thanks for the update, WDW

I like Anna's brain, I can totally relate to that.

I'm not so much with the thinking right now, but that's my action hero, right there! :D

21st? really really?

Jake and Natalie look relaxed and good together. I've always wanted to see him with Anne H. but I wouldn't mind him dating Natalie. ;)

I hope Jake's PoP will be a b.o. hit.

UM, Ah, is it ok to fawn over the new pics and totally objectify Jake by saying how cute and hot as hell he looks? Lordy, even Mike and Jerry can't resist him so what chance do we have :DD

Is PoP going to be released at the same time as the US? Does that mean no premier? *Sulks*

Jake Fan said...

Anon:"Maybe Jake should visit the DC Forum, and check out his godchild...if he hasn't already seen her."

I don't think Michelle is in Jake's circle of friends. The duty of a godfather is to send bithday cards and call or mail every once in a while, which I'm sure he does. That's sufficient.

Oh, and thanks for the last pic. I know it was only just for me *curtsys like Vanessa Redgrave to Prince William*

Hi Sweetpea :)

Hey Rubes! Well, according to Mike's logiec... I am a woman, I can think and thereore Jake's for me -Jake! I'm over here!

21st - oh yeah! This ad came from Disney - one would've thought they'd know when their movie was out. Looking good for an earlier UK premiere.

Hi Jake Fan - I love seeing Jake and Natalie together :)

Hey Sheba! Yeay you can just give in to the hotness of Jake :D I

The release in the US is 28 May so if PoP is brought forward a week in the UK there is absolutely no reason to think there'll be no UK premiere! On the contrary. Judging by how other big releases go, a UK premiere was never in doubt anyway - and premieres elsewhere across Europe and further afield. But this could suggest it's being staggered.

But even if it's brought forward a week there too - or it's not brought forward a week here - they'll be premieres across the globe.

A good day :D Oh flip - my word is 'fright'

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ouch! Please don't mention the curtsey moment! I'm trying to block it out...

He's got a sort of cheeky, devil-may-care light in his eye and at the same time he has a sensitivity, delicacy and thinness-of-skin.

I love it. :)

Now wait a minute - I love pagentry and heritage and theater history. Prince William may be a 21st century prince, but he's still royalty. I thought it was beautiful. :)

sheba said...

Hehehe, I thought it was very fitting, dramatic and totally theatrical dahhlink. Wills took it with much aplom and good grace. He's a doll ;D

^^ :) This was the first time I've had the chance to watch the BAFTAs (thank you, BBCAmerica!) and now it will be on my yearly must-sees for movie awards. It was great. You guys have the best news too. ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon :D It's a lovely description of Jake as Dastan - sigh...

Fortunately, we've come on a way since the 6th century and now Brits don't have to genuflect to royalty :D

It was totally theatrical, Sheba, which, in my uselessly biased opinion, doesn't make it the right thing to do. William did take it in good grace. I'd hope that the days of theatrical reverence are well and truly gone.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi 21:44! I'm so glad you enjoyed the Baftas! The BBC has a lot going for it, that's for sure - although we do each pay it here about £140 a year to keep it in shape.

OMG, all this talk of royalty has brought out my republican side!!

What a lovley quote from Mr Newall! :D
Premieres across the globe for POP?
Now i'm really excited!! SQUEEE
If this is Jakes look for Source Code then i'm pretty happy..if the hair could just grow another half inch, it would be perfect :D

I'm totally with you on the republican sentiments WDW. Vive la revolution!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Silver! Jake's gonna look great in Source Code :D And I like how he looked in LAOD too - good times :)

Yeay Rubes! * She cries while waving her Cap of Liberty! *

^^Alright, alright now. That's the beauty of it, you don't have to do that, but it was a nice thing to do. Here in America, we ain't got no respect for nobody, nevermind our leaders. But perhaps they haven't deserved it of late either. At any rate, looking forward to seeing our 6th century Prince. It sounds like it's going to be great. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Chuckle, hi Anon! Respect is earned, it isn't bought with a crown. But I think things are better here now with William etc in the future, who don't expect this abject adoration.

Ooh, I love to be political! Brings back memories of my marching student days :D Kissing Billy Bragg :)

Yeay! 6th century Persian Prince Dastan - I hope he won't mind if I'm a bit forward with my devotion...

It was a definite hight point :D Even beats nearly getting run over by Morrissey in Covent Garden!

Well, at least it was Morrissey! :)

That picture of Jake and Gemma together tells a great deal. [Isn't a picture worth 1,000 words?] She's seductive and well worth fighting for, and he's brave and determined but also vulnerable.
You will care what happens to them.

I saw "Edge of Darkness" yesterday. There was one Jake link: Jay Sanders, who was in "Day after tomorrow."

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Yeah, so I let him off. But I'll never forget that huge dartsboard at the front of the car coming straight for me! I'd try and be understanding if Jake nearly ran me over too - I'm a good fan :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Paul! You're a brave man seeing Edge of Darkness - I wrote my opinion of that one at MB. the idea of re-doing a classing 80s BBC series like that one. One of my favourites. Deep breaths...

I think you've really hit the nail on the head with Dastan and Tamina - we're going to care. With actors like that, how could we not? I can't wait to see the sparks!

So nice to see Jake in these charity events. I love the clothes he is wearing.

Natalie is a lovely girl.

I am very happy for the victory of KB and Duncan Jones, but unfortunately I saw the videos at youtube.

It is a beautiful picture of POP in the Empire. I think that is the best I've seen so far. thanks.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Monica :D I love Jake's clothes too. The shirt goes so well with the jumper, and the trousers and shoes.

I'm so glad you liked the scans - they're beautiful pictures. Really beautiful. The colours are so bright. The advert is absolutely stunning.

BBMISwear said...

Anna's comment is hysterical! Love it! Ahhh, these "additional" charity event pictures are wonderful. Another case of "ask and we shall receive" isn't it? We wanted more pictures (and preferably smiling pictures) and we got them! Okay, charity event hired photographers: Are there MORE?!?! Never enough, never enough.

Great stuff in Empire but that is quite confusing. I kind of like the idea of staggered release dates when they are close (like these dates sound to be - not like Brothers) because I think it works out better for publicity, premieres, photo opps, etc. (all the better for us)! I know there will be all that stuff either way but a movie opening across the globe on one day makes it more chaotic I think. Hmmmmm. We shall see.

Thanks for the great updates WDW! I'm glad I'm a thinking woman too!

:-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning all! Thanks to everyone for such a fun night last night - I had such a laugh :D

Hi BBMISwear :-) Oh, yes never enough. Iam so gad we got these smiley pics, just perfect. I'd love to hear more about the evening.

I like the idea of dates staggered over a few days too - it makes publicity much easier (which is clearly why they do it) - for Jake and for us! So all good. I love the colour on the Empire images.

I've been re-reading Mike's comments about Jake - what wonderful things to say about him - stressing his beauty, but also his intelligence and charm and talent for all audiences. wonderful.

Have a good day - may it bring more Jake :D

Ha! WDW, I kinda remember you weren't so kind to Helen Mirren's queen when she was blocking Jake from your view!! lol.

The Pop giant poster looks awesome! Jake has come a long way as a horseman, don't you think? Remember he said he has never been on one before Brokeback?

I like his hair short like this. Looks kind of naughty :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Winterbird! I know, I was not chuffed with Helen Mirren blocking my view of Jake like that. I'm sure I told her to budge very politely though :D Chuckle...

The advert is spectacular isn't it? And yes, Jake has come a long way - sigh. Hot too :D I love the hair! I wonder if it comes up to Ruby's exacting standards for Jake's hair...

Ruby said...

Hell yeah! :D

He's hot whatever his hair is doing, but yeah, this look does it for me. ;-)
