It seems rather appropriate that, on the day when every single pub in Britain is full to the rafters with mums being taken out for their annual treat (Mothers Day here), to revive an old WDW favourite - Dining with Jake Gyllenhaal. Jake may be filming Source Code in Montreal but clearly this is just an excuse to discover restaurants and bars in the Old Town, while revisiting others from his Day After Tomorrow long stay.
Last night, Jake was seen, and indeed photographed, at the Cabane à sucre au Pied de Cochon, a sugar shack, where you eat food cooked with maple syrup during the sugar season. Thanks so much to Olympia for getting me into the right restaurant and providing the local information. I must say that does sound rather... sweet. Many thanks to CleanEvolution for sharing their picture.
You'll see from their tweets two other things worth mentioning - 1) the desserts were good and 2) Kirsten Dunst also showed up. Jake and Kirsten were also spotted at Forever 21. Kirsten recently said that she and Jake do not talk now, although she would like to. Maybe, with both of them filming in the city, there's the chance to clear the air and catch up.
Jake was also seen at Vauvert in Old Montreal. This rather posh French restaurant encourages its coustomers 'to let go and forget the idea of service for the purpose of eating a meal... Sit, have a bite, talk with friends, enjoy yourself and make it an evening-long experience.' On Thursday, Jake was seen in a bar by a happy martini sipping tweeter in Old Montreal. Martinis and Jake Gyllenhaal? That's what I call a night out...
Updated to add that Jake was today seen at Beauty's Restaurant for brunch before he moved on to a cinema. A picture here.
Happy Mothers Day to all Brit Mums!

Old Montreal, old beards - Kirsten Dunst said she didn't stay friends with Jake.
And if you'd have read the post you would have seen I said that. A warning here - I will not tolerate 'beard' talk. I am allowed to mention Kirsten Dunst (one of my favourite actresses) without getting attitude.
Ahem :)
No doubt the rumours will start now, they met up therfore they're back together and will soon be wed.
I just read this, i never knew Jake was considered for Batman, second choice, it oculd have all gone so differently for him :P

Silver
Hi Silver! Yeah! Jake will be proposing at Easter :D he's gonna get paired off with everyone!
I remember that. And Superman too. But I am glad Jake didn't do it.
Hope you're having a good Sunday :)
WDW, are you sure the pic is of Jake at La Cabane? I read somewhere else that it was at the Cabane à sucre au Pied de Cochon, which is a sugar shack, where you go eat food cooked with maple syrup during the sugar season. The decor sure looks like a cabane à sucre.
Olympia
Olympia - thanks so so much for the local info! I'll update straight away. Must say that sounds... sweet :D
It is not just sweet, cabane à sucre food is also usually incredibly heavy, with eggs, baked beans, pancakes, sausages and oreilles de crisse which are deep fried smoked pork jowls. And to top it off, it ends with some tire d'érable, which is maple syrup that was boiled into a thicker syrup and put on snow. It gets hard enough so you can pick it up by winding it on a wooden stick like a lollypop. Mmmmmm, so good! A lot of families go every year and schools often organize days at the cabane à sucre for the students. It's a lot of fun!
Olympia
That sounds quite extraordinary, Olympia! Sounds like quite a night. I can't imagine anything comparable here. A good experience for Jake.
I feel really hungry now!
I think you'll get a better idea of what Au Pied de Cochon is really all about from this foodie blog. It basically translates to "at the foot of the pig" or pigs feet, which they do indeed have on their menu. I see nothing about maple syrup in any of this 3-part review by this blogger.
Au Pied de Cochon review.
Thanks Anon :) That's an interesting site. As a foodie, I do love to learn about all these different restaurants around the world. Gives me itchy feet :D
Hi, Anon 19:56. Au Pied de Cochon is not the same thing as La Cabane à sucre au Pied de Cochon, which is opened only during the sugar season. But I do believe they are operated by the same chef, Martin Picard. He's kind of a celebrity here, he has a television show. Try this link, it is indeed a sugar shack but it seems like a really fancy one. :)

Olympia
I was just looking at the menu and this is really not typical of a normal sugar shack, I've never had lobster in a cabane à sucre! :D
Olympia
Thanks, Olympia. But it doesn't appear La Cabane au Sucre is even open yet, from their website - March 18 to May 9th.
Seems to be a nice place. So good to know that Jake is enjoying the restaurants in Montreal.
I recently saw a program about Kirsten Dunt and they showed some new images of Jake for me. The most interesting thing is that Jake has been an influence for her to accept work in the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
I'm not a fan of her, but I liked to know about it.
Happy Mothers Day to your mother and all mothers who are celebrating this day.
Hi there! Gotta say I'm none the wiser. I do know that I'm getting hungrier by the minute!
Updated the post with more of Jake's day :D
Hi Monica! Posting at the same time - I didn't know that - it's good to know :D
Hi Anon 20:31. :) You`re right, they`re not supposed to be opened but this is the tweet that WDW linked in her post:
"Jake gyllenhall at #APDC cabane a sucre and desert is good!"
We're having an early spring here so the sugar season started earlier than usual, that could explain why they decided to open early. It looks like a really popular place, they say on the site that they're already completely booked for the season!
Great, now I'm hungry too! :D
Olympia
Jake as Bruce Wayne? But he would not have worked with Heath in BBM.
Thanks, Christopher Nolan!
It's great to see that he was the second option and the choice of writer. This is important.
Thank you, Silver.
It would be so good to see him as one of the villains of the third movie, but I find it difficult ...
thank goodness for twitter! How did we survive without it! So he and Kirsten were seen catching up? I hope they can still be friends.
Too bad I'm not in Montreal hanging out in the local eateries....with Jake :D
sweetpea
the last photo, at the Beauty restaurant, I'm not sure what Jake and that lady next to him are standing in front of?
Also the Cabane Sucre sounds yummy. When I was in Ontario my friend introduced me to maple candy(they were shaped like maple leaves) it was yummy. So I wouldn't mind going to this restaurant and trying food cooked with maple syrup.
I'm sure Jake is probably taking notes (as a chef he probably does everytime he goes someplace new)

Hi Olympia! I saw that it was fully booked for the season. I like the sound of a seasonal restaurant :)
Hey Monica! I'm so happy Jake did BBM instead, but it is good to know he was a favourite. I like the sound of Jake playing a Batman baddie in the future (much more than I'd like him to play Batman).
I hope so too, Sweetpea :)
That last pic is at the cineman. It looks to be they're standing in front of ticket dispensers.
I do think Jake'll take away notes with him from these restaurants :)
I hope everyone's having a good Sunday - feeling rather happy I have Monday off :D
Not sure if it sounds like he was with Kirsten or they happened to be in the same place at different times.
Don't know if she is still with her music boyfriend or not but she was going with people while Jake was taking his time and then he had a close to 3 year relationship so don't think he'd be in touch with her during that.
If they have talked that would be a nice thing to do and then have them go on with their lives.
And if she's around maybe she'd like to say hi to Atticus.
Hi Anon :) Who knows and it doesn't really matter. Just nice to think that if they have spoken, they've cleared the air.
Thanks for all the food updates WDW - LOL! Jake sure does like his food! My internet has been touch and go this weekend so it was great to log on tonight and get the updates. Maybe it's the rain and wind, as other Northeastern peeps talked about in the last post, that has messed up my connection. As long as I don't lose power I'll try not to complain too much. Duncan surely chose the worst possible weekend to drive down to Boston from Montreal - Yuk. A complete washout.
All these sightings are great but I have to say I can't imagine the Forever 21 one being accurate for either Kirsten or Jake. That store is...well, I'm trying to be careful how I word this...a rather inexpensive clothing store for young girls. The girls I know that shop there are between the ages of 12 and 21. Kirsten? Jake? With all the fabulous designer-ish stores to choose from? Seems doubtful. But all the other sightings sound good!! I have wondered if K and J would cross paths while both in Montreal filming...could get interesting.
Lucky you having tomorrow off WDW. Good planning on your part!
Hope to catch up more tomorrow *crosses fingers for internet connection* :-)
I am thankful that Jake passed up the opportunity to be a superhero. The Prince of Persia franchise is great for him, on the other hand.
As for the past, present, and future girlfriends issue, I have no advice for Jake. He's going to find someone some day, and he'll do it his way, which is as it should be. Look around you at all the Hollywood celebrities who have married, divorced, remarried, redivorced, stolen spouses from other celebrities, and graced the covers of countless tabloids. Meanwhile, Jake lives a life of discretion.
Morning BBMISwear :-) I hope your interent improves with the weather. I saw some pics that Duncan posted from Boston and it looked exceedingly damp! But it sounds like he had a good time.
That's so fummy about that store - love how you phrase it - chuckle :D I love these tweets, I really do, but they're certainly not 100% reliable, unless there's a picture of course. But yes, I imagine the filming world in Montreal is a small one and people/crews are bound to run into one another.
Hi there Paul! Agreed about the superhero franchise - PoP sounds much more interesting, possibly because I'm much more into videogames than comics.
Have a good day everyone - sorry it's Monday! It's a beautiful day here - I may even get the deckchair out.
I'm so jealous of your day off, WDW, enjoy it for all of us who are slaving at work! :)
Olympia
Will do, Olympia! I'm being so lazy... but I did make it out for a coffee - And it's even quite warm :D
I hate to drift away from the topic of this thread, but things are getting a bit hairy here. A third straight day of heavy rain and wind. If the river rises 6 more inches, it will be in my neighborhood. :-(
Okay, back to tangentially related topics: I saw "She's out of my league" yesterday. The one link to Jake was that some of thecharacters discussed "The Day After Tomorrow." It's a surprisingly charming movie, with a delightful final scene. :-)
I am so sorry to hear about these weather problems, Paul - I know what it's like to watch nearby rivers rise so fingers crossed that the worse is over.
Thanks for telling us about the film - I like that they talked about TDAT :)
