If I have learnt one thing during the last few months it's that you can never have enough featurettes for a Jake Gyllenhaal movie. Call me old-fashioned but if, in the run up to a film's release, I don't see Jake in at least one new video taster a week, I'm not happy. I feel there is a subliminal message here for Ed Zwick and Duncan Jones: avoid the Brothers route and take the turning for Prince of Persia. Douglas Freeman had his thing for piecharts; I feel the same way about Jake Gyllenhaal featurettes. It's a good thing, then, that today we have two and a half. First off is a Disney Channel Exclusive Look.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one to have noticed Jake's rapid jumper exchange during the course of this video.
We then have the third video from those rather frightening Movie Surfers. For some reason unbeknowest to us all they focus on Tamina but there is also more Jake and, in both of these videos, we have soundbites of Gyllenhaal Britspeak. At one point, Jake says 'terribly' - you don't get much more authentically Brit than that.
The third video is a sneak peek at a feature still to come on the Disney Channel.
Throughout these features we hear pride from both Jake and Gemma Arterton for how they did many of their own stunts. We've talked before here about how Jake has mentioned his vertigo or his nervousness around horses, but all that was conquered for PoP. HeyUGuys today published an interview with George Aguilar, the stunt co-ordinator for Prince of Persia. He says 'There have been some pretty big leaps that Jake and the doubles have done. Even though they are on a cable they are still pretty tricky. There’s also a lot of working with animals, horse work, camels, all sorts of things. Both Jake and Gemma and the whole cast worked on the riding. We had a couple of horses run loose which is always tricky.' And for Parkour 'Jake started training a few months before shooting began and he has worked real hard on it.'
George describes his favourite scene: 'I like the one where Dastan is running down an alley. There’s a man on a horse about to spear him. He runs up one wall and then back down, up another wall and takes the man off the horse. They then proceed to have a nice friendly sword fight. You have to incorporate everything in there. The fighting ability, the horse riding and the Parkour all comes in one scene. It’s not that long on screen but it took three to four days to film and lots of rehearsal time.'
The movie is for the family but it was filmed with real intent: 'Most sword fighting movies are a little proper and pretty. This is more physical and when someone gets hit, he really gets hit. And when someone gets stabbed, he is getting killed. You’re not stabbing someone six times and he still gets up and walks away. It’s not that kind of movie. When you swing a sword, you’re swinging to kill. It is all about intent and Jake is doing very well with that. We do use blood. We do practical and visual effects. But I don’t know how much you’ll see in the end, it depends what rating the film is given. I think there will be negotiations about that.'
I've said this before, but it bears repeating. We Gyllenhaalics have had nothing like this before - past films have been largely directed at adults and so this level of exposure is a novelty. I could almost say that the publicity for Prince of Persia feels like a holiday. It doesn't detract from the time around it but it gives us a chance to experience something quite special. One can hardly begin to speculate what Jake feels about all this. It's a thrilling ride and I hope he hangs on and enjoys every moment of it.
Tomorrow is a day of interviews for Jake and the PoP crew in London so there is plenty more to come! I saw a tweet that said Jake would appear on the Jimmy Kimmell Show on 20 May - hopefully one of many chat shows.
Many thanks to IHJ!

The videos are fantastic!
Great to see Jake in his element.
All you Londoners are very lucky now to have him in your city. ;)
All the press for PoP is great. I really hope Jake does the chat show here in the US too.
Pardon my squeeing - this movie is going to be great! I won't miss it in IMAX. I just love the way Dastan pulls those swords from behind his back. I love Tamina's sword-fighting too - and I love her headdresses - the one with the jeweled embroidery is gorgeous, as is the gold one. Can't wait! :)
Even his laugh sounds British in the videos!
I've read loads of positive early reviews for PoP on Twitter!! So exciting :)
So far i've heard Jake is doing Kimmel and Regis and Jimmy Kelly in the US. I hope he does Ellen :)
Silver
His accent sound very good - I love how he sarcastically says "pleasure to meet you too, Princess." The action is just outstanding. :)
Hi Get Real! These are exciting days - and it is nice to be on Jake time for a change. I would've thought Jake will do all the US shows - I saw that he's scheduled to do Kimmell on 20 May :D
Hi 19:22 :D I'm hoping to see PoP in IMAX too.
It'd be great if Jake does Ellen, Silver. It's been a while! I've loved the last couple of times he's been on there - a visit is well overdue :)
I love the accent, 19:46 :D The more I hear of it, the more impressed I am.
Can't wait to watch these videos when I get home:)
I would've have thought he would be doing all the main chat shows in the US. Fingers crossed he does the Ellen Show.
Hey WDW,
thanks for the featurettes. The pics are fantastic. I like Jake with longer hair (okay not as long as the prince when he's NOT being the prince, you get what I mean ;)
I loved him on Jimmy Kimmel (I'm a fan of JK) I hope he does get to do Ellen, I know they like each other. But Ellen tends to wrap her show for the season in May so let's hope he gets on the show before she wraps. If he is going to be on JK on the 20th than that means he might get on Ellen too.
can't wait to see more press more JAKE

Hi Carol! Yes, fingers crossed :)
Hey Sweetpea :D I don't quite get what you mean, but I do think the long hair suits Jake. I never thought I'd say that but I do think so now :) I think there's every chance Jake will do Ellen :D
I ran out of breath reading your sentence, 11:49, but I do think Jake'll do most of the shows. It's a good week or so off from when they'll be announcing the lineups around the US release of PoP :)
Hi Silver! I guessed what you meant! Thanks for the link.
Silver sounds a little excited! But that's ok. :D
I forgot to mention that at my local Vue yesterday where I went to see IM2, all the employees at the cinema were wearing red Prince of Persia T-shirts!
Nooooo! Really??? Noooooo! Really??? Can we swap Vues, Rubes?
I'd just like to say (apropos of nothing) how much I like Jake's hair at the moment :)
Would I lie to you?
Ditto re the hair! :D
I don't know, it depends how many cosmos we've had... :D
Nice jacket, too.
WDW,
I hope you enjoy every moment. I have a confession: I'm actually going to be away until next week, inc. out of 'Net reach! It was not planned to coincide with the PoP build up; and it is volcano permitting; but the call of the sun is too much for even Jake. I must go when the sun calls me.
This does not stop me from hoping you are going to tell us everything that happens over the next week. Including the Wossy appearance?
God I must be mad.
TD
His hair looks beautiful and sexy!
I found this poll on Awards Daily News:
Summer Stock: pick the hottest tickets
Have a great week in the sun, TD! Hope you have a lovely time :)
Thanks for the link, Monica! Love to see all of the excitement build. I love the hair - very sexy :D
I'm finally home and able to watch the videos. Great way to end a stressful day!
I love the first video when Jake's talking about doing the stunts his expressions are the best!
For those that have heard about Jake being on Regis & Kelly do you know when he's going to be there?
WDW: I agree I love his hair at the moment too ;-)
I found this here written by my favorite film critic of Brazil.
He said he watched the movie POP this morning in Sao Paulo, because it was a requirement of Jerry Bruckheimer that all journalists watched the movie in their country of origin. In the audience were non-journalists too. He confessed he could not watch the reaction of these people(non-journalists), because he was "traveling" in the sands of time.
He said the film starts very smart, but I will not tell everything to avoid spoilers. For me it is not spoiler, but maybe for some people.
Luis said that Jerry and Mike are trying to politicize the movie, at least so it seems.
He is on his way to Paris and from there to London, where will be junkett of Prince of Persia.
This post happened this afternoon, from the airport. I think the junkett will be tomorrow.
His next post will be directly from London.
Sorry, he's going to London and from there to Paris and Cannes. The junkett happen tomorrow.
Good morning! Just a quick fly by from me for now to say that I FINALLY saw my first PoP Poster!!! On my way to work there was a billboard next to the road with a Slovak PoP poster! Yay, how exciting! Gotta take a pic tomorrow!!! ;D
Have a good day everyone!!
Morning everyone! Half way through the week :D
Hi Leslie - I couldn't agree more - not many better ways to unwind after a tough day :)
Hi Monica! Thanks very much for the link and the info. That's interesting about Jerry wanting critics to watch it in their own countries first. I won't read the report yet as I'm avoiding anything slightly spoilery. Yes, there's a big PoP press day in London today - can't wait to see what we get from that!
Morning Uli! That's fab!! I've seen posters in cinemas but none out in the street yet. Have to keep my eyes peeled out in the Smoke this weekend :D
I hope everyone has a lovely day :)

Just saw these pics of Jake out and about in London last night on Jared.
I meant that I like his hair shorter but not as short as he's wearing it now. As the Prince his hair was perfect, long and flowy but I couldn't see him wearing it outside of doing the POP movies (notice I say movies cause I know there will be more after Sands of Time)

Hi Carol! OMG there are so many new pics today, I'm going to swoon all over the place!
The Prince's hair looks lovely on Jake, Sweetpea :) I seem to like both long and short - I'm so indecisive...
