Jake Gyllenhaal's holidays, lobster, a song for Love and Other Drugs, a sword, a safety pin, Macauley Culkin

As you may recall, this time last year when Jake Gyllenhaal was on Martha's Vineyard, rumours were rife of an imminent Chelsea Clinton wedding on the island, to which one would suspect old friend Jake would be a guest. Today the rumours have been sparked off again, with a possible date of 31 July but with a location of Rhineback, NY.

Chelsea Clinton did of course interview Jake (from Oxford) back in 2003 for Interview magazine. There are snippets from that in this post. She also attended the NYC premiere of The Day After Tomorrow. And so, Jake may be polishing his suit as we speak (or I'll be talking about the rumours again this time next year).

Meanwhile, of course, Jake has other things to be getting along with on MV, and towards the end of last week, he was seen 'picking up some lobsters and checking out the lobster salesladies at the West Tisbury Farmers’ Market'. This not only suggests that Jake is braver by far than me in the kitchen, it also gives me the perfect opportunity to repost a much-loved lobster picture.

Ready to Try

New movie news may be thin on the ground at the moment as the holidays continue, but there was some information about a song for Love and Other Drugs. Apparently Ed Zwick, the director, selected the song 'Ready to Try', by Brit songwriter Mirella Castellano and Rob Persaud of Roxstone Music. Love and Other Drugs is set in the 90s and so a selection of new music mixed with sounds from the time would be great.

A sword

We've had lego, figurines, popup books, t-shirts, Halloween costumes, all manner of Prince of Persia momentos. Now you can go one better and actually own a replica of Prince Dastan's sword, all 31 inches of it. At this rate, we'll be getting life-sized stuffed ostriches to fill our living rooms.

A safety pin

This post is illustrated with new old pictures from IHJ, including photos of the old black sweater with a pocket held on by a safety pin. Fortunately, Jake's now successful enough that he can buy more sweaters and a lot more safety pins. It's always been a very popular trait of Jake's, though: how he hangs on to his favourite old clothes. Either that, or the safety pin was a very expensive fashion accessory.

Includes pictures from links and many thanks to IHJ for the old new pictures (always fun to see Jake with Macauley Culkin - at the Club Lotus in 2002).

Hi there Bertie! It really is, isn't it?! :D

Lobster, huh? I don't even like looking at those things... but for Jake, I'd give it a serious try...

Oh and I must say... I can't get over Pilot. "Pilot is adorable" indeed. Who is the major old skool happener? Piiilot. Pilot, Pilot, Pilot...

I'm sorry. I... I'll come back... ;-)

I have lobsters around in my Gyllen Haal of Fame apartment, so I guess I'll be looking for a 4x6 frame for the lobster pic...LOL!

hehehe, my plan to spread the Pilot-love is working! :D :D

Yes Bertie and WDW that first pic is lovely.

Ooh cooking lobsters, that is only for the serious chef.

Alejandra, isn't Pilot great? Jake looks so young in Highway.

Laughing at the safety pin jacket. THe LA day wear style can be really dressed down, despite all the high end boutiques and designer labels.

Scratching my head and figuring out where I would put a sword. :)

Cheers

Piilot love is taking over!!!

Hi Alejandra - you and me both - too many legs for my liking. You appear to have caught the Piilot bug!

Hi Gyllenhaalisgr8! That pic is definitely worth framing and is perfect for a GyllenHall of Fame room!

It really is Rubes! So much to answer for - anyone would think Pilot was adorable...

Hi Tui! You're very right - I wouldn't want to cook a lobster - I always want to set them free. Yep safety pins are a vital accessory in LA. The sword's big, isn't it? And then you'll need the armour and shield to go with it. And that ramming post.

Sweet post. I don't recognize most of these pics either. The safety pin is a deeply touching safety pin. Weird how Pilot is on the mind..I've been thinking of rewatching Highway again recently. Its so hot tho' I may go for TDAT instead. Apologies to Ruby - a Hiccup in her plans for Pilot's world domination.

I have to admit to being in the slightly unusual position of having eaten enough lobsters in my life (not loads, just enough) to know that I've eaten... er...enough... of them. ;\

Hey TD! I'm definitely in a more TDAT than Highway frame of mind - I'm trying to cool off sitting in a window and it's not working.

That is indeed an unusual position to be in, lobsterwise. I've eaten just the one - about 8 years ago in the South Indian Ocean. We agreed after that that we should be parted forever.

Love the first pic too:)

I thought Chelsea Clinton was already married...?????

Was watching The Good Wife on our local channel and just saw Zodiac is the midweek movie on Wednesday night. I will definitely be getting everyone to watch that!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Carol! I think she's just been engaged for the last 20 years. So many getting married rumours over the years. I saw Chelsea and her parents in Sainsbury's in Oxford once, trying to blend in :D

That's great about Zodiac - I really must watch that again soon!

Hi WDW,
Yes, lobsters, consolation only in that they get their own sort of revenge. I don't feel much shame I'm afraid. Still, Jake looks good with one. Of course. And the octopus too. [How on earth does he do it?].

I think I might have been mixing her up with one of George Bush daughters that got married last year or something.

The word wedding is starting to stress me out now as it seems to be all anyone ever wants to talk to me about at the moment:) Dropping in here will help to keep me sane for the next two months.

Jake is great with sea creatures, TD, even the ones he eats :D

Hey Carol! We're gonna have to throw you a hen party! Obviously, Jaske'll be there too :D

Carol said...

That's a really good idea WDW:) Jake is very very welcome at my hen party lol

Hilary was on tv this morning talking about the upcoming wedding at the end of this month so i think it's past rumor stage.
Would be nice if Jake could be there. But if he isn't doesn't mean he wasn't invited.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning all! Started the day off with lots of drama and running all over the place so I'm ready to put my feet up!

Excellent, carol! Jake could look after food and entertainment :D

Hi there Anon :) Indeed - the tv appearance was the reason for the post. What is still a rumour is the date and place :D That is true - and the same applies if I don't turn up.

Have a good day everyone!

Is he looking at me? What a great first picture.

My order of Jake's movies has not arrived yet! :-(

Have a nice day!

Hi Eureka - that picture is a stunner :D I hope your rder arrives very soon!

Beautiful first pic. I love when you start a post with one of those stop-you-in-your-track-omg-I-could-look-at-him-all-day-how-can-a-human-being-be-so-gorgeous kind of picture. :)

It's funny that you're all talking about Pilot, I watched a video a couple of days ago of only Pilot moments of Highway. It amazes me that I find him so adorable even if he's stoned just about the entire movie. :D

Carol, my sister is getting married in September and she is getting stressed too. I try not to talk to her about the wedding if she doesn't bring it up. I think she appreciates that. :D

WDW, the Clinton's trying to blend in? LOL! I bet that didn't work really well. :)

Hi Olympia! I like it too :) There have been some truly beautiful pictures over the last few months. Ahh yes, adorable, stoned Piilot!

I know someone getting married in September too - sounds like a nervewracking month!

It didn't really work at all, partly because everyone else in the shop was saying 'Isn't that Bill Clinton?' very loudly. The secret service did not blend in at all, which you would've thought they would if they were being secret. But the Clintons were able to buy their essential items before heading back to the exclusive hotel round the corner. (Maybe they didn't want to nick the soap...)

It's very hot here right now. Nothing for it but a pint of beer afterwork in a pub garden :)

Wow...this post covers a little of everything...love that! Lobsters...yum! Good choice Jake! We just had them (and steamers) the other night and they were great. It's hard to grow up in New England and not eat lobster and since he grew up here during his summers it makes sense. It's the best of the best here (and although I'm sure they are good on MV they are not as good as in Maine - everyone knows about Maine Lobstah, right)?! LOL!!

I want more movie news...Jake can be on his much deserved vacation but filmmakers should be giving us more movie news!!

Until next time... :-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Great to see you on your hols BBMISwear :-) Ahh yes, there is indeed some lobstah over there in New England. Of course Oxford Crayfish takes quite a bit of beating (metaphorically - and if you should find one - which I did once, in the river, with a claw missing).

I know! While Jake's away this is the perfect opportunity for the studios to announce what he's going to do for the next five years! I'm hoping Jake will tire of the idyllic island lobstery life soon... Surely he must be ready for a latte?

It is crazy we don't have a trailer for LAOD, but we have a trailer for "Social Network", "The Town", and "Secretariat ". I'm waiting anxiously for a flim clip or something. My goodness !!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Jen! I know, it's driving me crazy too - there must be something along soon. It was so late for Zodiac and Brothers too. Thanks for commenting!

Anonymous said...

Didn't know there was a "Secretariat" trailer out..I loved that horse. That's in Oct. I think.
As LAOD has had early screenings and there is really good buzz about it am sure the studio will be giving it a good push.
Some movies that have Oscar nomination potential have their info. out too early and they either turn out not being as good as people thought or are kind of forgotten so am sure LAOD will be getting the attention it deserves.

Carol said...

I was just thinking that about the lack of a trailer too Jen. We should be used to all the waiting when it comes to one of Jake's movie but it never gets any easier:)

Love the look of The Social Network though. There is just something about David Fincher's work that draws me in from the very beginning.

You are doing your sister a massive favour by not mentioning her wedding at every opportunity Olympia. It is a very stressful time.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon - let's hope so :)

That is so true, Carol - it really doesn't get any easier! At least we're getting used to it!

Social Network looks amazing! I'm so excited by that one.

New post :D

Thank You , Wet Dark and Wild. Hopefully, a LAOD trailer will be previewed before "Eat, Pray, Love" , "Dinner for Schmucks " or Drew Barrymore 's "Going the Distance ".

Morning Jen :) Let's hope so - the buzz is so positive for the film already, they can do such a lot with it in the run up to its release. Have a good day :)
