Even though you, like me, are no doubt going through those last minute painful adjustments to your wedding outfit - I knew the hat was a mistake - I thought I'd make you fashionably late with a post this evening. Weddings are a reminder that this is indeed the holiday season and here I direct you to your dictionary: 'Holiday Season (Holl-i-day see-sun - noun): The time of year when Jake Gyllenhaal buggers off for weeks on end'. Tweets and facebook sightings (real or less real) have been placing Jake everywhere from Alaska to Martha's Vineyard to washing my car in Oxford.
In yesterday's interview (which I hope you will read if you haven't already), Jake said that one of the things he has to deal with in his job is that he can be in 6 countries in almost as many days. And over the years we've seen Jake use many an opportunity to bring up his jetlag problem - and his solution Rescue Remedy - which, I have on good authority (ie, my own), doesn't work half as well as a good gin and tonic.
I realise I'm digressing, but just as Jake spends almost as much time in the air as I do on blogger, the theme of this evening's holiday post is the diversity of countries that Jake Gyllenhaal finds himself in - as indeed do we. Recent comments on WDW have highlighted the great range of countries from which we, Jake's fans, hail. There's me in the UK and then many of you are across the US, across Europe, Australia, New Zealand - in each hemisphere and on a fair old proportion of continents. We're a globular lot (if you pardon the expression) and just as Jake broadens our worldly horizons, we too have contributed to the widening of Jake's. And may I just say, that Jake has some of the loveliest widened horizons that I've seen.
Obviously, we don't have pictures from all of the countries that Jake has travelled to and maybe some of this summer disappearing time is spent exploring areas that we never hear about, but there are plenty of occasions when Jake does get pictured. And so this post presents some of Jake's travels in no particular order.
Jake does seem to spend a fair amount of time in England - often through work but I think there's a piece of his heart left here too (and he queues at the Holes in the Wall like a naturally born Brit). Unfortunately, when he was here filming in 2008 on Prince of Persia he managed to wreck our summer weather and it was mostly lousy, but on other visits we've held our own.
There are two other countries where we have seen Jake rather a lot - France and Italy. Jake mentioned, when he was in Cannes in 2007, that he had toured much of France with his family (he knew all about the Provencal sausage - yes, he did). Over the years, Jake has been seen in Cannes, Paris and the Alps (Lance Armstrong dragged him up a mountain by bike when it would have been so much easier by car).
Cannes:
The Alps:
Paris:
Jake has also been seen on a bike in Italy - and on a boat. Venice Film Festival has welcomed Jake with open arms but he has also been in Italy for Rendition and Maggie and Peter's wedding. He also popped over to Rome to see me and I appreciate that. He just didn't know it at the time.
Jake has also been a frequent visitor to Canada. In fact he told one interviewer during the Rendition publicity days that there had been a time when he would even pretend to be a Canadian when travelling abroad. Jake has filmed three movies in Canada - The Day After Tomorrow, Brokeback Mountain and Source Code. He's also been to Toronto Film Festival to publicise Brokeback, Proof and Rendition. He also saw me in Toronto and that puts it in my top five list of Jake places.
My only decent pic of Jake (in Toronto):
Other places include Spain, Japan, Germany, Morocco and places across the breadth of the United States. One of these days, we'll even get him over to Wales. Enjoy the pictures of Jake across the world.

Madrid:
Berlin:
Boston:
Hawaii:
Washington DC:
Chicago:
Mexico:

New York City:
Martha's Vineyard:

That's cool! Great pictures!
Jake is a very lucky person (tho i'm sure a lot of travel can tire you at certain times) to be able to see so many places in the world and I bet he's sure to know some history about each one of them.
Hey i've been to Chicago too. The "2nd City" you know.
Rem. there was a guy who said the picture he had was he and Jake. It wasn't Jake. So all the sightings mean only 1 of them is true.
I forgot..gotta get use to this name signing thing.
But speaking of people from England and areas usually going to the East or West Coast (or Florida) and not venturing a lot past there. (I do know that Germany (well, people in it) have an interest in Route 66 so that brings some to the middle of the country.)
We might not have an Ocean, but we do have rivers and lakes.
On vacations and holidays people go "to the Lake" and take their boats and that's not more than an hour or so from where i live.
KC
nice places, gorgeous guy <3 :)
aww Mexico, he was too close and too far from me :(
maybe next time :)
thanks for this post Kate! you do a great job.
Although I live in West Yorkshire, England I am a South African - bet thats one country he hasn't visited yet!
I've been following WDW for 2 months now but not felt up to posting....til now. Absolutely loved PoP and am counting down the days until it's out on DVD. I think he has improved with age - then again I'm 7 years older than him! Just wish the facial hair would go....
Thanks WDW for all your hard work, your posts liven up my day.
CS
Well, I need to find an excuse to bring him to Argentina.
Actually, in a brief interview for an Argentine magazine he said he's never visited, but if he gets invited, he'll sure come... So, basically, I need to invite him, right? Okay, gotta work on that. ;-)
He's so cool. He likes Brits, Australians, Moroccans... And everybody likes him, I bet.
Btw, I invite everybody to visit Argentina. So now you know.
Wherever you are, I hope you're having a great time (waiting for LAOD). xo
Helloo everyone! Good to see you all in all your parts of the world - And the world feels smaller :D
Hey KC! It's good to have a name for you. It's was so much fun gathering together the pictures for this. Sure, travel is tiring but Jake is in such a lucky position - he can have some fantastic memorable experiences - they're there for the grasping.
Oh yes, plenty of sightings are mistaken. I can understand it. I was in Toronto for the film festival and I was sure I saw Jake but then when I really did see him - as he was leaving the hotel, I knew then that there's no mistaking the real Jake :)
I've been on a fair bit of Route 66 myself - I have a dream to drive across the States. But yes I have my favourites - LA, SF, Boston, NY and Florida. I think as a Brit I tend to like being near the sea but one of the most wonderful places I ever went to was Phoenix. Loved it!
Thanks so much Linda! Jake's said how much he enjoys holidays in your beautiful country so I'm sure he's there far more often than we know :)
This is such a good day - thank you so much CS for posting a comment! It's wonderful for me when readers delurk or give themselves a name - thank you so much for posting and for picking a name!
You live in a beautiful part of the world. And I love South Africa too - I travelled across it a few years ago. It's a shame Jake didn't make it there for the World Cup as he was hoping to.
Thank you for commenting and for telling us a bit about yourself! And yes, understand completely about the facial fuzz... Do come back!
Hi Alejandra! It would be wonderful for Jake to explore Argentina and South America (so long as he takes me - I want to see it too!). Jake clearly loves the places he visits and the people he sees and it's not surprising, his welcome is open-armed.
Thanks so much for commenting everyone! IT's wonderful to see you here from different parts of the world! If you're in lurking mode, do say hello and let us know where you are!
yep Jake is a globetrotter. I wonder if he gets frequent flyer miles? Or how much jetlag he suffers from?
he washed your car! no wonder it looks like it is going to rain outside. Well if Jake wants to go singing in the rain I wouldn't mind watching that.
I am sure Jake will surface sometimes. I didn't see his name on the guest list for Chelsea's wedding but you never know
sweetpea
Hi Sweetpea! Jake's always saying that he does suffer from jetlag but hopefully now he's getting more used to dealing with it.
He did a great job on my car! Normally I let the rain wash it but we've not had any here for quite a long time, so nice of Jake to step into the breach!
I kind of doubt Jake was at the wedding as it seems quite lowkey guestwise, but who knows?! I wonder if any of Chelsea's Oxford friends will be there.
Finally I watched Brothers!
I do not know what happened to the character of Jake, because in the script he was much more developed, especially in the relationship between Tommy and Sam. Even with these problems, Jake has a great performance as Tommy.
He is wonderful, only confirms how much he is great actor.
Natalie is good, showing that with the right material, she have good performances. And Tobey Maguire finally has the acting of his career.
It's a great movie.
The scene in the dining and in the kitchen are unforgettable. As the performance of Bailee Madison.
What a wonderful post WDW!!! I so loved the flashbacks of Jake in all these different places and the great photos. And what a great international presence we have here on Wet Dark and Wild!!
Okay, now I know there are many places that people can say "what about this place...what about that place" and I hate to be one of those people but I'm going to be just for a minute - ha ha! What about Marblehead, MA, USA?! Or Gloucester, MA, USA?! You WERE watching The Perfect Storm tonight, right?! We know those 'places' very well. Sigh. And...my personal favorite: Columbia, South Carolina, USA?! Okay, I'll stop now...but you know I had to share. And you know I am especially fond of the Fenway Park Boston picture (how's your new/old cap?) and Martha's Vineyard picture - but what about the Chilmark Road Race ("look...it says START")?! LMAO! Sorry for the ramble...laughing at all sorts of memories now. Thanks for this!! :-)
My car is in dire need of a wash, could you please send Jake to Canada when you`re done with him? :DD
It's really great to see what an international bunch we are.
Thanks to Jaking, I've learned a lot about other countries; I love how BBM broadened my horizons on so many things. :)
Olympia
Cool post WDW! I love all the pics of him on his travels. Wow, he was in Texas??? I MISSED him when he was here then! Too bad, but maybe he will venture back into my neck of the woods again sooner or later, one can only hope! >;-)
Wow, round the world with Jake.
I really like the pic you got of him in Toronto. Must be satisfying knowing it is your pic and not someone else's.
Another favourite is the Morocco ice cream eating pic. He seems just like one of us in that pic, just a member of the public.
I am getting organised to go and see my third viewing at the cinema of Prince of Persia. (I am going to eat the most chocolate ice cream I can find and sit back for a wild two hour ride.) After today PoP's run is all done here in New Zealand, I think.
Cheers
Tui
I wanted to say "Thanks for your great blog" ... from good old germany :D
Yup, travelling the whole world and getting paid for it really sucks ;) *lol* It's hard being Jake Gyllenhaal
Morning everyone! So great to see you all - and more new faces!
I'm running late this morning because I worked out one of the best ways to achieve insomnia - have a cheese and onion sandwich at bedtime. Yep, that'll do it.
Hi there Monica! I am so glad you were finally able to see Brothers and that's briliant that you liked it so much. I do agree that more could have been done with Jake's character but he did a fine job with what he had. Bailee was incredible.
Morning BBMISwear :-) Yes I watched Perfect Storm last night - how I love that movie and even mor so because we went in the original Crow's Nest for a beer! And now when they talk about Gloucestermen and describe the seapath out of the harbour, I can put myself right there as we've been. And who'd have thought two of my favourite films were filmed there!
Oh yes, special places, Columbia is most definitely one - even Ousezarte (can't spell, sorry!), out there in the desert, makes me think of Jake. And that bit of pavement outside the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in London.
I do sometimes wonder if Jake has been to more of the UK than just London. There are rumours that he visited Oxford (I supose when Chelsea may have been here) but it'd be great if he could experience more of it. Maggie's certainly explored Devon and Dorset. Rambling on...
And OMG that little bit of road in Chilmark with 'start' written on it. I crack up just thinking of that one. I have my new old hat from Fenway with big hugs to Yankees fan Anouska!
Hi there Olympia - most definitely btoadened my horizons too - the world seems smaller and much mroe friendly :) Yeah, no problem, I'll send Jake round when he's done his chores :DD
Hi Vanessa! Yes, Jake's been to Texas! He hung out there with Lance Armstrong a fair amount in 2006 and he has filmmaking friends there too (Jake was a producer on a film of theirs - Crawford). He's been seen at the ACL music festival in Austin a few times too. So you could be lucky! It's one of the 'regular' places :D
Hey there Tui :D That pic is so so special to me. And the whole context of it. And I love that Morooco pic! We got so few from there and I loved this one of him relaxing in those beautiful gardens, being a tourist, and enjoying an ice cream.
Enjoy PoP! It's nice to think it's still on over there in New Zealand, at least for the time being - I hope Jake makes it over to NZ at some time. Definitely one of those places I would love to go to. :)
Welcome Sasha! Thanks so much for posting and with a name :D My good friend Uli who regularly posts here is also from Germany. I used to work there, so love the place :D Thanks so much and do come back!
Great to see you all - have a lovely Sunday :D
PS I'm having some blogger commenting problems - a good tip is to copy your comment before you post it - just in case. Took me a couple of goes and then a refresh :D
Jake and Rescue Remedy! Now that gave me a good laugh, having used that a lot a couple of years ago during stressful times. It does work, it really does - if you believe it does. *grin*
Your travel list isn't nowhere near complete without Holland, Jake!
I'm always happy to show foreigners that the majority of my tiny little country does nót exist of coffee shops and/or people hanging around stoned all week long. ;-)
"..do say hello and let us know where you are!"
Hello! I'm in Berkshire, England :D But I think one or two of you may know that already!
I'd love to visit some of the middle bits in America. Now that I think of it, all the places I have been are on the edges. But, I want to go to Texas, Illinois, Montana, Kentucky and loads of other places. Best start saving, I guess.
Hi Lady Ekster! Ooh Holland - lovely. Some WDW readers and friends bought me Rescue Remedy as a gift! But it doesn't work :D
Yeay Rubes! Oh yeah, Berkshire - Jake should most definitely go there too. I want to go to a bunch of those places too - Roadtrip!!!
Done a review of the fabulous Gainsbourg on MovieBrit
I'm watching Nanny cPhee - great accent from Maggie!
^^^ McPhee... oops
Great pics:) I love the international flavour to WDW. The world definitely feels a lot smaller now.
I'm from Cork, Ireland - the hometown of Cillian Murphy and Jonathon Rhys Meyers. I may stand corrected but I don't think Jake has ever been here. He's very welcome to visit anytime!!!
Hey Sasha, another German Jake fan! Welcome!!
Unfortunately I don't post here as often as I should to do this wonderful place justice... :-/
Damn, Jake has been around, huh? Although some of the trips were for work, I hope he could also make something of those trips for himself instead of just going there, doing his job and leaving again... I know how hard this can be... :-/
Some of the pics that aren't even that old seem like a lifetime away, the Paris pics for instance... Will we ever see that hat again???
I wonder if he really is still on Martha's Vineyard! I actually hope so, cause I would love to see him and Chris run the Chilmark race together again!!
I hope everybody has a great start into the new week!
PS: At least you didn't write Nanny McPee... :D :D :D
Wow, this is so cool seeing where everyone is from. I am from Houston, Texas & am dying to see all of the UK, New Zealand, Australia, France, Spain, Germany, South America, & tons of other places.
& Carol, I am a huge fan of Cillian & Jonathon both, how cool that you live in Cork! Ireland is one of the first places I plan to see the next time I get overseas. I can claim Irish, Scottish, & English as my heritage, so I want to look up where my ancestors were from.
WDW, I am really looking forward to Nanny McPhee Returns, I loved the 1st one & adore Maggie, so this will be great hearing her British accent. & with Ewan McGregor in it too. Can't wait to see it now!
Morning all! Monday - ugh - and they're drilling right under my office - I may go deaf...
So good to see more of you on this post - and some lovely avatars too.
Hey Carol! You are from a beautiful place - I had a fabulous holiday touring round your part of the world on a motorbike. Very keen to go back. The Guinness wasn't bad either...
Hi there Uli! Good to see you :D I hope Jake occasionally gets the time to see the places. I like how for Moonlight Mile, when Jake went to Toronto for the Film Festival he did a road trip up there with friends.
I don't miss the hat at all! I do like that hair there though. I think Jake is still on MV so he's having a fine summer's break. Maybe the flying visit back to LA was for LAOD business...
Morning Vanessa! Always wanted to go to Texas - it's high up my list. I hope you can make it over here sometime. I loved Nanny McPhee - Maggie was so great in it.
have a good day evreyone - if you cna hear me over the drilling...
