What tune is on Jake's phone? Jake Gyllenhaal answers the questions we want to know! And WDW's Cornish Celtic Interlude concluded...

If you have ever wondered what tune Jake Gyllenhaal has playing on his mobile/cell phone, or if he ever falls asleep in front of the TV and, if he does, what food he has on his TV dinner tray then look no further. With huge thanks to a good friend for sending me the scan, here is Jake Gyllenhaal in the 11 August edition of Gala.

Here are some of the questions and answers, which provide little glimpses into Jake's life and show that, in so many ways, he's just like us, and hot.

Whether Jake is ever confused with another actor: 'Yes, Tobey! Perhaps because we both lived, at different times, with the same person [Kirsten Dunst]. Despite some rivalry, we have a lot of respect for each other. I admire his career.'

Jake's first girlfriend: 'She found me too talkative and left me very quickly. She wasn't wrong.'

Is Jake 'good at pulling'? 'They wanted to label me as a seducer, but now I think I've proved that I'm not like that, and I can't turn over a new leaf overnight.

At school Jake was more interested in the early history of cinema than in the early history of the earth.

Does Jake ever fall asleep in front of the TV? 'Yes, and it's not a good sign. It means I'm alone and I'm depressed, so it's better that it happens as little as possible.' In my experience, all men fall asleep in front of the TV - they have a gene for it - and so Jake shouldn't feel bad that this happens to him.

What's on Jake's 'in front of the TV' dinner tray? 'Not much. Definitely a sandwich that I made in a rush, with some chips.' I think by 'chips' Jake doesn't mean chips, but crisps (hopefully cheese and onion, or barbecue beef).

If Jake were watching TV and one of his movies came on, would he watch it? 'That's very rare. It would have to be because I have an excellent memory of the shoot and because I took that time to heart.'

Does Jake think he's ugly? Yes he does - very, very ugly. 'At those times, it's better to avoid me.' But, fortunately, less attention is made to appearance these days. 'We try to grow and be a better person.'

What are Jake's first thoughts in the morning when he looks in the mirror? 'Nothing, I can't even think in the morning. I always feel like I'm in a coma. I take a shower, I try to eat breakfast and I go to work'.

Does Jake have any paparazzi disguises? 'If you consider a cap a disguise, yes. It doesn't really cover me but I have an impression of feeling protected.'

Jake's remedy against stage fright: 'Sport! Individual or as a team, such as basketball. That's my only weapon to exhaust all my fears.'

What stresses Jake the most? 'The holidays at the end of the year. My mother's Jewish and my father Christian. And all these religious festivals and traditions end up seriously distressing me.'

What prevents Jake from sleeping? 'Unfinished work. If something prevents me from completing a scene, I find it impossible to sleep'.

Has Jake ever been on a diet? 'Yes, but for my muscles. For the movie Prince of Persia, I had to put on lots of muscle, so I managed a balanced diet with extra protein.'

What's the messsage on Jake's phone? 'At first, my voicemail said politely: 'You are through to Jake's phone, please leave a message after the beep'. I was told that the message was corny and it wasn't wise to talk about myself but I should be using a prerecorded message. I gave in to the pressure and now people complain because they are never sure that they're on the right answer phone.'

Jake's phone tune: 'A musician friend composed a tune exclusively for my cell phone. I complained that I had the same tune as everyone else. Thanks to him, without doubt, I always know if it's my phone or not.'

What a great interview! So many thanks to 4JG for sending me the scan. Any faults with the translation are mine, and not Jake's.

A bicycle adventure

Bicycle adventurer Kevin Foster, while signing books this week, suggested that a movie of his cycle ride along the Great Wall of China may be about to become a reality and Jake Gyllenhaal is a possible for the role (with Kathy Bates as the mother). Jake has been attached to cycling films before and so time will tell if this is on the cards or wishful thinking. More information here.

WDW's Cornish Celtic Adventure

After the excitement of a biking Jake, fresh from two uberhot Love and Other Drugs trailers, there's a chance now to post some pictures from my last day in Cornwall. I visted the Celtic site of Chysauster - a collection of about 8 courtyard houses (and a scary fogou) built as the Romans held sway across the rest of England. A truly beautiful location, with a view across the sea, made these the des res abodes of prehistoric Cornwall (and a distinct improvement upon some of the other prehistoric settlements of Britain I might mention - often situated in bogs - where just being able to stand up in the face of hostile elements would have made it a good day).

Finally, I ate three Cornish fish in Porthleven. One of the three Cornish fish was the Gurnard and if I had had half an inkling of how truly ugly this fish was I wouldn't have gone within 10 yards of it. It tasted like it looked.

Many thanks to Amar! Other pictures from IHJ and WDW.

O wow, that is a very ugly fish indeed. :-O But your pictures are, by contrast, beautiful. Looks like it was worth the car troubles. ;-)

So it's Spandex Jake, maybe? No problems with that. Not at all. *big grin*

Love the French interview. :-) Particularly this part:
What are Jake's first thoughts in the morning when he looks in the mirror? 'Nothing, I can't even think in the morning. I always feel like I'm in a coma.
At last! A real human being just like me. Our last names rhyme (they really do) and now this... this is meant to be. *tears of joy* But wait. Eating and falling asleep in front of the tv...? Meh. That won't do.

Oh WDW I'm speechless with excitement! What a perfect interview, perfect movie news - a bike film, yeah! - and perfect, beautiful archaeology to finish up with. I've not taken it all in properly yet - I've got to sleep on it! Something wonderful to look forward to tomorrow...
thank you WDW!

What a wonderful interview...thank you so much WDW and 4JG!! So much here I need to read it again and have a lot to say so expect an email from me - ha ha!

Interesting movie news - and you're right - we've heard of this kind of thing before so we shall wait and see.

More beautiful pictures from your trip WDW and you had me laughing out loud about the fish!! I'm sure you had some interesting treats while away though, right? Remember the great food we had while we were bopping over Massachusetts last year? *sigh*

Gotta run but thanks for this great post! :-)

Great Q&A!! After re-reading a couple of times I'd like to say...

The thought of him "alone and deppressed" melted my heart. Let us hope that happens very rarely, Jake.

The whole sleep thing is interesting, actually. Not being able to sleep because of an unfinished scene... Recently I found a quote where he said sometimes he'd resume work in Jarhead after only one hour of sleep. People would think that, since he's not a "partier", he goes to sleep early. Or that he likes sleeping/has no trouble falling asleep...

About his not being able to turn the page so quickly in terms of relationships... I can only respect that. And I wish him all the happiness in the world. Cause he sounds like such a great person...

And Gyllenhaalics are great too. Thanks for the scan, the post... and the holiday pics. Lovely of you to share. xo

I've just decided to go to sleep when I discovered this interview! It's so interesting and nice! Jake is so normal and not spoiled at all.
I will correct one line, about his first girlfriend: "She found him too talkative and left him quickly. She was right.(She wasn't wrong)

I found one more interesting question.
Q."Have you ever disguised to escape the paparazzi?"
A."If you consider a cap a disguise, yes. It doesn't really cover me but i have an impression of feeling protected."

My daughter helped me with translation.

I like the part when he says - he has the moments when he feels ugly. Poor Jake. Even him has these moments? So human to me.

And Jake on a bike in China? Mrau!I would love to see it.
Good night!

What a great interview!

Jake is so sweet and down to earth. I hope he doesn't fall asleep in front of the TV often - don't want to see him alone and depressed.

Yum - back in spandex - here's hoping.

Cool Cornish pics.

Thanks WDW.

Cheers

Morning everyone! Great to see you here :D

Hi Lady Ekster! A fisherman warned me when I ordered it that it was an ugly fish. He wasn't wrong (although he did over-exaggerate the size of one he said he'd caught).

Yep, meant to me! I love hearing how Jake is just like us. I doubt Jake has too much to eat and fall asleep in front of the TV as he's too busy working his way through visits to every restaurant in the world.

It's great, isn't it, TD?! It was very late - hope to see you later :)

Hi there BBMISwear :-) I don't know what to make of this movie news - it seems way too early but it is the sort of thing Jake would like, I'm sure. Or the sort of thing that other people would just assume that Jake would want to do. We'll see!

Ooh great food in Mass. :D I love being by the sea and eating catch of the day - except when it looks and tastes like that.

Thanks Linda! :D

Morning Alejandra :D Jake does seem to like going to clubs on occasion but I don't see him as a late night person, not with all that cycling and running he likes to do at the crack of dawn. And I like how he just takes his time - and yet he is a master flirt - like that :) My pleasure *)

Hi there Mermon! Thanks very much for that correction - I'll change it straight away. i can't believe I left the cap question out - mind you, it was so late :D I'll add that. Jake seems to have times when he's thought he's ugly all his life - it's such a shame but it it is so human and just like the rest of us, I'm sure :)

Hi Bertie! It's a great sketch! Loved it :)

Morning Georgie :D

Good to see you again Copycat!

Thanks so much, Tui! Jake in Spandex for a two-hour movie is a rather nice prospect :D

Have a good day everyone! Is it Friday? And thanks again to Amar :)

Dear WDW, well I've just had a lovely lunchhour looking at this post. That interview is simply great - best info of all to glean about anyone I reckon, I may add some of these questions to my internet 'match' site questions! ;D

Do you think the question about watching his own films is actually a little lost in gyllenspeak? 'That's very rare. It would have to be because I have an excellent memory of the shoot and because I took that time to heart.' Seems like you can read this answer either way. I thought his answer about holidays stress was particularly interesting. Poor Jakey, religiously confoosed!

Looks like you had the perfect day for Chysauster. I've not been there but will try and visit in the future. I think I've seen Pendennis Castle - not a lot to see as I recall. Did you go down the 'fogou'? Your photos are beautiful.

I'd love to see him biking across China. Whoooeee. More potential 'vista' shots 8)).
Thanks again WDW for a delicious post.

Thanks for the translation of the article. It just shows how much like us Jake is. I am not a morning person so my brain is not awake even if it looks like I am awake.

It's nice that he has his own ringtone for his phone. I think he should go back to his original voicemail message. I would love to hear that when I call him :D

yes it's chips, as in potato chips not crisps :P

I love all the pics you have taken of the English countryside. I wish I were there with you. I love the country.

Ooh Lady Ekster! I'm so glad you liked the sidebar :D It's clickable too for LAOD and the DVD. Yep, one day closer!

I'm so glad you liked it, TD :) I like to think of you reading it while you had lunch. I thought that was a typical enigmatic answer of Jake's - meaning something and nothing all at the same time! But he does have such a lovely way of putting things.

I didn't go to Pendennis as it's relatively new - one of Henry VIII's I think. I'd like to have gone to St Mawes across the harbour but I didn't get time. The fogou had collapsed - I'd say unfortunately, but I'm really scared going into those things. I don't mind Long Barrows at a push - but not on my own! I'm too claustrophobic :D

Hi there Sweetpea :D I love the idea that Jake has his own special ringtone - I wonder if it was Adam levine or Jenny Lewis or Mumford.... it could be so many people!

In the UK chips aren't potato chips or crisps. When we say chips we mean proper big fat chips - big fat versions of your fries - and potato chips are crisps :D the joys of language :D

I love the countryside too - The UK is beautiful - I like to show it off!
